And we're back for another chapter of Trials of War. So things did not turn out as planned. To say that this chapter was difficult would be an understatement. And even now I'm breaking it up into two parts. I usually don't like to use my two month time limit, but I will if I must. I'll get into more details later.
But on a more positive note, happy Valentine's Day, but more importantly happy Sonic Movie Day! We did it, FFN! It's pretty awesome that the movie's coming out and from the sound of things it's actually looking good so that's awesome. Figured that there wouldn't be a better day to release this chapter on a pretty big day for the fandom. So yeah!
In addition as we move forward, we are in what I'd like to call an intermission period before we begin the next official arc with this chapter and the next two to come. But oh boy the next one is a favorite so I am very excited to get there.
Also a little bit of an announcement in the end A/N as well.
With all of that being said, let's finally check up on Modern Sonic and co. since it's been far too long.
Trials of War: A Sonic Forces Rewrite
Chpater 23-
Drifting Apart
Living in Sunset Heights had been a pretty mixed bag these days.
On the one hand, you had been liberated from the Eggman Empire. The rampaging robots that had once paraded across the city had long since been defeated and everybody could at least try to return to some semblance of normality.
On the other hand, you dealt with limited resources and overpopulation.
The resistance had done its best to provide what it could to the city. But it wasn't nearly enough. The amount of rations that were supplied to the city were enough to feed everyone, but with very small amounts people never really had enough to eat. Eggman still controlled most food depots and with the Adabat safe haven gone, Angel Island was the only place where natural resources were produced that the resistance had control over.
Still, the city had become a shining beacon for all those who had managed to escape the empire. Refugees who had either escaped of their own accord or had been liberated by the resistance from all over the world would often flock to the city after having seen it liberated on national television. And while this was a good thing, it lead to the city having more people than it knew how to deal with.
Still, the resistance did what it could for the city. Having set up guards much like they had with Adabat and did their best to take care of anything they needed. The resistance had more or less become the unofficial government for them in these trying times.
Among the setup were several watchtowers, where members of the resistance would take shifts to watch over the town from all sides to prepare for any and all attacks, Eggman brought in.
In one of the towers facing out towards the ocean were a group of three friends.
The first of which was a young boy with light tan skin, who had his stylized into a choppy mullet, with a headband that tied it all together and kept his rather large hair out of his eyes. He wore a simple white t-shirt with a matching blue vest and shorts along with pink leg warmers and red armbands that went along with the one on his head.
Currently, he had binoculars on, watching both the outskirts of Sunset for any oncoming dangers.
Next to him, leaning lazily in her chair was a young woman in about her midteens with slightly darker skin than the boy and dyed purple hair tied into a pony tail. She wore a similar blue vest only it was shredded at the bottom, black biker shorts, brown heeled combat boots and white bandages around her upper arms.
Rounding out the group was a large cat Mobian that stood above his friends both in height and pure muscle. He had messy turquoise fur that was pretty unkempt outside of a small afro that sat snugly atop his head. He wore a bell on a collar around his neck along with a pair of pink jeans that were torn at the ends.
The teenage girl leaned back in her chair and sighed. "Thirty more minutes and our shift is over…"
The large cat stretched at this. "Thank Chaos. I don't know about you guys, but I can really use some shuteye after this loooooong night shift."
"You're tellin' me, Rad." The girl smiled.
"Right on, Enid." He agreed as he offered her a fist bump, which she gladly returned.
But the young boy, who was still looking out the window shook his head. "As members of the Sunset Heights Division of the Resistance, we must remain vigilant! You never know when Eggman's forces will be right at our front doorstep."
Enid shook her head. "Come on, KO. It's not like they're gonna show up now though." [1][2]
Rad nodded. "Yeah, man. We've been at this all night and we got nothin' so I wouldn't sweat it too much."
The young boy shook his head. "Even so, I will continue to keep a watchful eye to protect this great city as we are the only thing that stands between them and the Eggman Empire."
"Whatever you say, bro." Rad shrugged. He then gestured to some of the stuff they had spread out amongst the shack. "Hey, Enid. Wanna start packing up so that there's no hassle when Steven and the gang show up for their shift."
"Sure thing."
"But guys! Sonic would want us to stay and continue watching out for any oncoming dangers!"
"No worries KO, you've got this." Enid smiled as she ruffled up his hair a bit. "Besides, we're right here if anything goes wrong."
"Yeah!"
KO smiled at this and nodded. "Well, 'spose you're right. Sorry{3] for being a bit wound up. But I just wanna do a good job. It's not like Eggman's gonna show up now."
At that, a lone Eggman Empire ship descended into their airspace from the clouds above.
All three of their eyes widened at this and panic began to ensue as the two boys clung onto each other, worried for what would happen.
But Enid was immediately in action, grabbing for a built in microphone attached on a wire on the table.
"Attention, you are entering Resistance Occupied Airspace. State your purpose or we will be forced to engage in combat."
For a few brief moments, all they heard in response was static, with what sounded like a few voices coming from the other end.
Enid looked worriedly down at the radio, with KO and Rad still looking nervously at one another.
"Rad, ready the turrets. I think we might have trouble."
Rad gave a curt nod at this, running over to the other end of the room where a control board sat.
But just then, a voice cut sharply through the static. "This is Luitenant Topaz of GUN. We come in peace and are requesting permission to land!"
The three of their eyes widened at this.
Enid looked to Rad. "Should we let them?"
"It could be a trap…" Rad frowned.
"Yeah, we shouldn't take any risks. GUN was destroyed months ago and there's no way that they'd be flying in one of Eggman's ships."
"But… what if it's not?" KO asked. "What if they're more refugees looking for safe haven from the empire."
"KO…"
"No! We have to make sure that they come in peace. We'll let them land and wait for them, and if it is Egggman, then… we'll take care of it."
The two teens looked down at the boy who looked up at them with gigantic puppydog eyes.
The two sighed and gave in. "Fine, we'll give them the chance."
Enid got to the radio again. "Give us five minutes and you can land in the designated space on the shore, right next to the Red Gate Bridge."
"Understood. Thank you."
~Trials of War~
The trio had grabbed their own weapons and sent out an alert on their communicators to all available resistance fighters. Humans and Mobians alike stood in a half circle around the aircraft.
Standing at the head of the group was a man that went by Mr. Gar. He was a large man who stood proud and tall over most people as evident by his rippling, glistening, lightly tanned muscles that all could see due to his lack of a shirt. He wore simple pink tie, shades and a pair of light green slacks. The only thing evident on his face was the scowl he wore, hidden behind a bushy brown moustache.
At that, the door opened and each and every one of the soldiers raised their weapons prepared for whatever would happen next.
And then, out stepped Lieutenant Topaz of GUN, her hands up to show that she had no weapons on her person.
But with one look at the man in front of her, she gave a look of surprise. "Junior Lieutenant Garcia?"
Immediately, the strong composure that the man held shattered as a massive blush covered his face. "Lieu-Lieutenant T-T-Topaz?! How- Where- When- How-"
The military officer shook her head. "Is that any way to address your superior?"
Immediately, he stopped stammering and stood at attention, giving her a salute. "No, ma'am!"
"Good. Now, would you be so kind as to tell your troops to lay down their weapons and help us out here. We have some refugees here that need a lot of help getting adjusted."
"Of course." He gave a curt nod before turning to the group behind him. "Troops, stand down!"
Without another word, each and every one of the members of the resistance put away their weapons, allowing the former prisoners of the Death Egg to come out of the aircraft and get acquainted with Sunset.
Mr. Gar was still standing with Topaz, still trying to figure out what was going on.
"I don't understand. After the fall of GUN, you were taken prisoner of the Eggman Empire. How did you manage to escape?"
"Mounted a bit of a jailbreak up on the Death Egg thanks to Sonic. Didn't think we'd ever been able to escape, but we did and now we're just trying to get everybody over to their rightful homes."
"I had no idea the Resistance was mounting an assault on the Death Egg, but then again I'm just running things down here in Sunset Heights. Sonic was able to save this place too just a month ago."
Topaz nodded. "That's good, that's good. It's clear that now that he's back on the playing field, things are starting to turn around for the world."
"Indeed. We've been able to liberate Sunset Heights and a few other areas, but we've still got a lot of work to do."
"And I trust that you're running a tight ship here, so I'll leave you too it. Once the people that want to stay have been let off, we'll be going elsewhere."
"Understood."
With that, the two turned away from each other to take care of business only for Topaz to turn back towards him, a small smirk gracing her lips. "Wait, one last question."
"Yes, Lieutenant?"
"Where is your shirt?"
At that, the man went beet red again. "W-w-We're in a t-time of war!"
"And a time of war means that you choose not to wear a shirt?"
The man tried to list off more explanations to which Topaz simply shook her head, a laughing a little at the man's own musing.
Junior Lieutenant Eugene Garcia was an excellent tactical battle planner and a combatant of his own right. GUN had made great use of him over the years and had the war not started when it did, he'd have likely been the same rank as her by now. But of course, the man was a bundle of nerves and many in their ranks liked to poke fun at this fact.
After spending so long on the Death Egg, it was nice seeing that some things hadn't changed.
~Trials of War~
Infinite and Starline appeared out of a flash of pixelated light, right into the Doctor's office in Metropolis.
The room was dark, save for a single stage light that shone down on the two of them, the chair where the doctor sat was turned towards the open window where the glowing lights of the city could be seen.
Starline gulped as the doctor's chair swiveled around to reveal him shrouded in darkness so that only his glasses could be seen.
"Infinite, leave us." Eggman stated. "Starline and I need to have a little… chat."
"Very well." Infinite nodded. "Should I pursue Sonic and Tails?"
"Leave them. I've already tracked their course. I doubt they'll be able to do anything anytime soon with where they've crashed."
"Very well then. I have my own matters to attend to." With that, he disappeared in another glow of pixelated light, leaving the two of them alone in the dark again.
"Emperor Eggman, please! I want you to understand that everything that had just happened was due to my own carelessness and inability to perform. I take full responsibility and-"
"No, you're going to stop for just one second, Starline!"
He trembled at that.
"Do you have any idea what you've just done?!"
"I- I- I-"
"You allowed all the prisoners to escape the Death Egg! You allowed Sonic and Tails to get the Emerald! And you allowed my Death Egg to be destroyed!"
"I know, sir…"
"I allowed Sonic and Tails to arrive on the Death Egg to test you!"
At that, Starline stopped groveling and looked up at the doctor, mouth slightly agape. "Y-y-you what? You knew they were coming?!"
"Yes. But I had no idea you would fail so spectacularly! The complete and utter destruction of one of our strongholds and by a ragtag group consisting of a hedgehog misplaced by time, a two tailed fox that should be too depressed to even move and a dysfunctional robot that has more screws loose at this point than even my first assistants Scratch and Grounder! Under no circumstances should they have had the success that they did." [4]
"I- D-Doctor… If you knew and saw things going south then why didn't you send some form of assistance or take control into your own hands?"
Doctor Eggman shook his head. "This is about you and your incompetence, not me!"
"But Doctor. I- I think that if you had-"
At that, the Eggman slammed a fist on his desk, causing Starline to jump.
"Watch your tone! Do you dare question Emperor Eggman?!"
"O-of course not…" Starline hung his head in shame. "I am sorry… I-I- don't know what came of me. All of it is entirely my fault."
"You better believe it is." Eggman smirked. "I am very disappointed in you Starline… Perhaps I was wrong about you, and you are not fit for being a general of the Eggman Empire."
At that, Doctor Starline's eyes widened and he looked up at him. "D-doctor?! You couldn't possibly mean-"
"I do." He swiveled his chair around and looked back at the night sky. "Please, pack up your things and leave. Don't make this harder than it needs to be."
"I-I can make it better! I can prove myself to you, just give me another chance!"
"The last person I gave second chances to was Zavok and you all know how spectacularly that went for me."
Doctor Starline looked down at the floor. "I-I'm sorry…"
Eggman said nothing as he left the room with his head hung low.
~Trials of War~
It was a pretty average day for the fighters of the Resistance. Many were in the main lobby, chatting about successful missions they had in the past few weeks and how they were really making a difference in the world. All was going pretty well for them and at the moment, they were pretty happy to just be alive.
That is until an angry, portly Echidna came barreling into the room with two guards behind him. He had been Teanchai in a headlock, who was shouting at him to unhand him.
"KNUCKLES!" Chief Pachacamac roared as he barreled his way through.
At that, most everyone scattered to make room for the furious elder and it wasn't long before both Knuckles and Amy stepped up to face him.
"Chief, what are you doing?!" Knuckles shouted
"I am getting rid of the garbage that was found lingering about outside of your permitted space! It's bad enough that we have creatures from other tribes infesting our ancestral land, but a human?! Absolutely unacceptable!"
Knuckles was about to snap back at him, but before he could Amy stepped up before him. "Chief Pachacamac, as one of the Leaders of the Resistance, let me be one of the first to apologize for breaking the terms of our agreement. He is one of our refugees and we didn't mean for him to-"
The chief simply pushed her aside. "I do not speak to outsiders, child. I want to speak to our child!"
Amy looked up from where she lay and growled at him, but kept her composure. She knew she couldn't sour things with Pachacamac even if she wanted to bash his skull in with her hammer for that move.
Knuckles stepped up before him, not even batting an eye. "Hey, don't treat my friends that way!"
He laughed. "I will treat the dirt that steps into our land as I please. Just as I have treated the vermin that you allowed to escape the confines of yours."
"Calling them trash ain't gonna make them think any better of you!"
"Their opinions matter not. The only reason they are even allowed here is because you are one of our own, even if you are a wayward son of the clan. That and if it weren't for my daughter's intrusion, then I would have half the mind to-"
"Father!" Tikal's voice called out from one side of the room.
"Dad?!" Another added from the other.
At that, from opposite directions, came both Tikal and Rudi came running from two separate directions, the former having her yak friend close behind.
Rudi got there first and made to check on her father, who was still in Pachacamac's death grip. But as soon as she got close, the two guards stepped before her, brandishing their spears at her.
Knuckles was quick to step in front of her with his fists up and her yak friend caught up and held her back.
For a few short moments it looked as if a fight was going to break out.
But then, Tikal arrived and stepped before them. "Father, please?! What are you doing?!"
"These fools have broken the laws of our land yet again and I wish to deal with them, starting with the lost one right here."
"They've done nothing wrong, father!"
"An outsider here was found gallivanting across our lands as if he was one of our own. That above all else is beyond reason to do something."
"I just wanted to get some air!" Teanchai shouted. "It gets stuffy in here, so I thought why not take a walk?!"
"Please, let my dad go!" Rudi pleaded.
Tikal was appalled by this. "Father, let this man go, please! I will receive whatever punishment you have for Knuckles."
Knuckles looked at her. "Tikal, you don't have to do that."
"It's fine."
Pachacamac growled. "I will not allow that to happen again."
"The rules of our land state that one is allowed to take their friend's place. And I take his." Tikal insisted. "You were going to give him an entire fortnight of education, were you not? I will take it."
Pachacamac glared at Knuckles for a few moments before sighing and throwing Teanchai against the floor, to which Rudi and the Yak quickly ran to assist him. "Very well. Come along, daughter."
With that, he grabbed her by the arm and the Echidna left the building.
Knuckles went to help Amy up as she dusted herself of. He then looked to the group before him. "Are you guys okay?"
"Fine." Amy noted.
Teanchai growled. "He was quite rude. I go outside for some fresh air and he attacks me! I am a village chief! He should show me some respect!"
"Dad, please." Rudi shook her head. "I'm sorry that he gave you guys so much trouble, it won't be happening again."
"Yes, next time I'll bop him on the head for such mistreatment!"
Knuckles sighed. "Please, sir. Just don't be doing it again, I promise that we'll be figuring something out for you guys soon."
"You better." Teanchai noted as he turned and left, Rudi and the yak following closely behind.
"We really gotta do something about them, though. Can't keep them here and Sunset can't take anyone else. What are we gonna do?"
"I actually have a solution to that." Amy noted.
"Really?"
"Yeah, I wasn't sure when to tell you but Queen Elise actually responded to us."
"What does that stuck up snob have to say about us now?"
"Just that she's had a change of heart and is willing to make negotiations with us. Actually, I was just getting ready to pull you aside for a meeting with her right now."
"Sounds great. Let's go!"
~Trials of War~
Amy and Knuckles arrived in the mission control room just on time for the two of them to answer the call from the Queen of Soleanna.
When her face appeared on the screen, they both bowed before her. Despite their feelings, they had to show their respect if they wanted to get this to work.
"Good evening, Commander Knuckles, Captain Amy Rose."
"Good morning, Queen Elise." They noted.
Elise raised an eyebrow at that.
"Time zones." Amy simply shrugged.
Elise waved it off. "Fair enough. Anyhow, we have negotiations to work out, do we not?"
"Yes, we do." Knuckles nodded.
Amy stepped forward and put her hands in front of her chest. "First, I would like to apologize for the harsh words that we dealt to you those weeks ago. I really do mean to defend my friends and the resistance, however some of what was said was uncalled for."
"We both said things that were harsh to one another. The stress of the war has been hard on everyone and it was especially wrong of me to belittle that of the guardian of The Master Emerald and the struggle that comes with being one of The Sonic Heroes. You both have my respect."
They both bowed. "Thank you, your majesty."
She nodded and smiled.
"Now, let's discuss the matter at hand. I have decided to allow you to bring your refugees to my country."
"Yes!" Knuckles cheered to which Amy quickly elbowed him. "Ahem, right. Sorry."
Elise shook her head. "However… There are some conditions I have."
"We're listening." Amy said.
"No one is to know that Soleanna is harboring the resistance's refugees. I will keep them safe, but under no circumstances should it be public knowledge that this is happening. Soleanna has managed to maintain its independence from the war since our cutting ties with you, and we'd like to keep it that way."
"Fair enough. But how do you propose that we do that?"
"I am glad you asked. At exactly midnight tonight, I will allow passage into my kingdom for exactly one hour to allow for a clean transfer of the refugees. In that time, you are to bring them in and leave and never ever speak of it again. Do I make myself clear?"
"Hold on, tonight?! But that's just in a few hours!" Knuckles shouted. "You want us to rally up our troops and that amount of people in just a short amount of time."
"If that is what needs to be done, then yes." Elise nodded. "I'm giving you quite the opportunity here and I refuse to do any later as it may tip off the Empire."
Amy frowned at this. "I don't appreciate giving us such a little window of opportunity but we'll see what we can do. Thank you."
Elise nodded. "You are welcome. I hope to see you and your resistance in a few hours, but please remember not to overstay your welcome."
Knuckles nodded at this as she signed off.
"Crap." Knuckles sighed. "We got a lot of work to do."
"I'll get the coffee." Amy sighed.
"It's 11AM."
"I said I'll get the coffee, Knuckles." She growled.
"Okay."
~Trials of War~
The next few hours were spent with Amy and Knuckles organizing battle plans, making way for the mission.
The refugees of Adabat were quickly told to pack their things and head to the air hangar. Meanwhile, the only ones that were asked to join this op were the Sonic Heroes themselves, Beta Squad and a few select members of the resistance like Tangle. They wanted something as quick and easy as possible without causing too much of a commotion.
Knuckles and Amy set at the head of the group, the latter with what was her sixth cup of coffee in hand.
"Thank you all for coming today." Knuckles smiled at them. "Now, I'm sure you all have been wondering what all the urgency today has been about."
Sonic shrugged. "Usually when Amy busts out the coffee in the middle of the afternoon, it means that something is seriously going down, so yeah. We've all kinda been wondering."
"You're so lucky you're cute otherwise, I'd knock you into next week for that one." Amy chuckled as she took another sip.
"We can talk about Amy's addiction to caffeine later, this is important." Knuckles stated.
Amy shot him a glare to which he chuckled and held up his hands defensively.
He continued though. "Today, we are going to be taking the refugees from Adabat to the country of Soleana."
Vector's eyes widened. "For real? I thought Queeny was still mad at us after the whole thing in Holoska months ago?"
Sonic looked confused. "Huh?"
"That's right, it was while you were in prison." Espio noted. "You see, the Kingdom of Soleanna had first assisted us in the war effort, but after the initial battle of Holoska, a lot of troops were lost in the conflict, including a good chunk of the Soleanna Royal Guard. Queen Elise blamed us and withdrew from the conflict, declaring Soleanna as an independent state before closing its borders completely."
"Ouch. That's harsh."
"No kidding." Vector nodded. "I was sure that we'd never hear from the likes of her again after how mad she was."
"It was tough to pull off…" Amy noted. "But we managed. However, she's only agreed under the circumstance that we deliver them in an hour and a half."
"What?!" Most of the room asked.
Silver shook his head. "You're joking, we only have that long?"
"Oh no. An hour and a half is when the window opens, after that, we gotta do it within an hour or else we get nothing."
Rouge chuckled. "She doesn't waste time, does she?"
"Nope."
"What's the plan then?" Mighty asked.
Amy typed on the keyboard and on the screen appeared Soleanna's capital city which was surrounded by a golden force field of sorts.
Some of those like Tangle and the betas were shocked to see this.
"As most of you know, since Soleana cut ties with us, they closed their borders. What those of you didn't know is that they literally sealed their country away using magical force fields in order to do this."
"An entire city surrounded by magic?!" Gadget gasped.
"That's wild!" Tangle added.
To that, the Sonic Heroes burst out laughing.
Vector was especially the loudest. "You guys think that magic force fields is weird? You ain't seen nothin' yet."
Sonic wiped a tear from his eye. "I remember when I was a kid and the strangest thing that happened to me was time travel over on little planet."
"Little what?" Fierro asked.
"Exactly."
When everybody had calmed down Amy continued.
"With only such a small window to operate you all are being despatched now." Amy added. "So I want you all to head to the bay now an-"
But she was cut off by the sound of the door opening and a young human boy came running into the room.
Knuckles glared at him. "Hey, what's the big idea this is a private-"
"Commander Knuckles! Commander Knuckles! We have a huge problem!"
"What could be so important that would make you interrupt us right now?"
The young boy, panting looked up at him and said. "Please, turn the interface to satellite TV Channel 7!"
Knuckles and Amy looked at each other, but did as asked.
When the TV turned to the channel, they were shocked at what they saw.
The once thriving city of Viemigos was set ablaze as people ran in fear as what appeared to be several massive snakes with Infinite's firing massive beams of light down on the city.
"No…" Mighty gaped as Ray buried his head into his shoulder, not wanting to see what happened to their home.
Everyone was left in stunned silent as the city was destroyed.
But there was one person who reacted to it all and both Knuckles and Silver could feel the negative Chaos Energy rolling off of him in waves to which both looked at him with concern.
But it got even worse when the camera focused on a familiar figure standing atop one of the many buildings.
Smoke and ashes billowed around him, nearly shrouding him in complete darkness as Infinite tipped his mask and the covered eye glowed a menacing red glow.
"This is a message for Sonic the Hedgehog."
Immediately, all eyes turned to the blue blur as he glared up at the screen.
"As you can see, I have ravaged the very city that was the battleground for our first confrontation after your daring return to the resistance. But rest assured, not all hope is lost. Some of the city and its inhabitants are still salvageable… at least for the time being."
He then gestured to the city around him as people ran in fear of him.
"I am issuing you a challenge, face me here in Viemigos or I wipe this backwater town off the map. You have five minutes to get here."
At that, the broadcast changed to show stylized art of Sonic fighting Infinite with a countdown below it as if it were some sort of sporting event.
At that, all eyes turned to Sonic, who was already turning towards the door.
"I'm going." He simply stated.
But Knuckles was quick to stop him. "Like hell you are, Sonic. This is an obvious trap!"
Amy was right at his side too. "You can't go and do this, he's going to kill you."
"He can try, but I'm not letting him hurt all those defenseless people anymore. I'm ending this war right here, right now."
"Sonic, you can't fight him." Silver pleaded. "Not alone."
Mighty shook his head. "And he won't be alone. Sonic will have me and Ray backing him up."
"Y-y-yeah he can't hurt our home."
"Will you look at what he just did? He gave us five minutes and I'm the only one that's fast enough to get there alone."
"It's too dangerous!" Fierro shouted.
"You'd never beat him like this!" Rouge shouted.
"Fighting him now would be suicide!" Espio shouted.
"And I'm not changing my mind." Sonic stated. "You guys have your mission down in Soleanna focus on getting them out, I've got mine. Facing Infinite one on one."
Amy cried, trying to reach out to him. "Sonic, please don't-"
Sonic tried to leave, but was immediately stopped by a hand clamped around his arm. "Sonic, please…"
He looked back at her only to see emerald eyes reflecting his own, only for him to turn away from her. He knew they were right. This was definitely a trap and Infinite was going to try to finish the job that he had started all those months ago. If he left to face him, there was a chance that he very well wouldn't return.
Amy especially trying to hold him back from leaving made him have second thoughts. He'd already lost Tails due to his failure all that time ago. Not only that, but he managed to leave the world in peril due to his inability to be the protector of this world, His World.
And it was because that it was His World, he knew he had to do this. He was a Chaos Sensitive being of raw power chosen by Chaos itself. Not just all of that, he was the protector of the world and all eyes looked to him for safety. And it was because of that, he knew he had to go down there and he had to find some way to win at all costs.
Sonic looked away from her and crewed his eyes shut. "Sorry, Amy… but I have to do this…"
"Son-"
But he was already gone, making his way off of Angel Island and towards Soumerica as they spoke.
Knuckles sighed. "You heard him… We have our assignments."
"But we can't just leave him!" Gadget shouted.
"He's made his decision and we have to get these refugees to Soleanna now. Anyone who has a problem with that can speak to these, got it?" He threatened as he held his fists up.
The members of the resistance looked between each other and nodded all except for Amy who remained silent.
With that said, they all began to make their way towards the hangar, off to Soleanna.
If only it were that simple… Celeste was waiting for them at the hangar with Cream by her side.
"I'm ready to go on the mission guys!"
At this Fierro frowned. "Celeste, please. You're not fully recovered yet. Just a few more days and you'll be back on the field."
"But I wanna help you guys!" Celeste insisted.
"And you can help by getting better. This is gonna be a simple mission that won't need any extra muscle or anything."
"We've got this, kid." Rhythm gave her a thumbsup.
"Get some rest, and if you're lucky I'll give you a good story afterwards." Corvin added with a wink.
"Please just stay safe." Gadget said.
Fierro then looked to Cream. "Cream, get her out of here please."
Cream took Celeste's hand and nodded. "Of course Ms. Fierro, I'll get Celeste exactly where she needs to be."
Fierro nodded at her with a smile and went into the ship.
And in a matter of moments both the resistance and the refugees were off, their next stop: Soleanna.
[1] OK KO crossover was something I had planned since "Let's Meet Sonic!" was announced and I figured this would be as good a time as any.
[2] While Pest Control is easily the worst episode of OK KO, since Alien Rad wouldn't fit my Sonic World, I gave him his furry design and made him a Mobian.
[3] You better have read that the weird OK KO, Canadian way.
[4] Scratch and Grounder existed in some capacity during the Classic Era.
So as mentioned there are two reasons why this chapter is so short. One of the main reasons being that yeah, I decided I wanted to upload something today and the other being the last chapter being so tough. Sonic and Infinite's fight has been an absolute pain, but it's getting there. Good thing is a good chunk of the next chapter is already done so we'll be getting there.
But as mentioned the special announcement. Trials of War officially has a blog over on Tumblr which I'll be posting additional lore and extra content on for everybody to enjoy. You can also send asks there that can be answered as well. You can find the blog at sonicforcestow tumblr com (figure out where to put the dots). So yeah. I've currently made two posts and plan to be expanding there when I see fit.
But yeah, until then. That's really all I have to say about this one so let's get to Review Replies.
TGN:
Gotta hold on out for the time being.
But no, you're fine. Don't worry about it.
And thank you. I hope you had a good holiday as well.
TheLostEternity:
Thank you for the support.
As for Infinite's age, I feel that might be a spoiler. Make of that what you will.
Animation Adventures:
Always glad to see you reviewing.
Haha, I loved making Mobians for this chapter. Aelita actually was not an intentional reference. But y'know what, it is one now. Lol. Venom Lizard and Light Mouse don't have names. But uh… let's give them ones now. How about, Sizzle the Lizard and Belle the Mouse?
Well, your wish has been granted. Haha!
Blaze joining Tails' squad as a sub-group of the resistance? Looks like you figured out my secret plan. Haha. Course more to it than that. ;)
I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Guest 1:
Classic Sonic and Blaze were so much fun to write together and there's more of them to come in the near future.
Guest 2:
Thanks!
You know what, I can't remember if the Ladybug was intentionally a reference to that one. Uh… You know what, I think it was. There were so many references I threw in lol.
Guest 3:
Eggman isn't always the brightest.
Tekina Fiction:
Ey, you found Lion!
#StarlineIsOverParty
Thank you, friend!
Kelwelpower:
Thanks so much!
Alright, that's all for now. Hope to see you all before March and if not, well at least a month from today. Ciao!
