The date is 12/12/2021, and yes I was supposed to take a break, but while I still have the ideas fresh in mind, I'd rather write them now than later.
Kamen Rider Beyond Generations will come out in the 17th, but as usual we have to wait until next year to see it. By the time this chapter comes out, it'll either be subbed or still not out, but that said, I love how Kamen Rider Century looks, and the snippet for theme song of the movie is gorgeous. I also love that Fujioka Hiroshi's son, Maito, is playing as the young Hongo Takeshi; I doubt the higher-ups would dare say no to the OG lol
Heh, I wonder… if I ever live to see 2071 and see that Century is the actual Kamen Rider that's airing, what if I'd come back to this story and update some stuffs to match what we'll get… man, can y'all imagine a crazy bastard who wrote a fanfic, stopped writing for decades and then suddenly there are updates from them? I dunno if this website will still be around, but if by some miracle it does… hello from the distant past, future person.
15/12/2021 update, Shin Ultraman finally gets a release date and goddamn, that Spacium Ray shot… absolutely gorgeous. And Spider-Man No Way Home is out, hopefully I can watch it on theaters.
27/12/2021 update… yeah, No Way Home was awesome. Also, bought Assassin's Creed Odyssey Ultimate Edition or whatever it's called, which includes AssCreed 3 and Liberation. Plus Doom 64 & 3 because they were all on discount. So yeah, I was busy so apologies for the delay… even though I usually take my time with writing fanfics lol
Anyways, finally got the cover image I wanted for this fanfic, and it's from the very SIC Hero Saga story that inspired this crossover. That's Our Hero Shiin right there; I have the book it came from so that's why it's a bit more visible.
So, the new chapters from the MHA manga… a lot of stuffs have been revealed. Thankfully, it makes some things easier for this fanfic, and if it's not clear from the very beginning I'm using the manga version, with sprinkles of the anime original bits added into it… maybe the movies too if I ever get to it.
This is one of the first MHA crossover fics after all, the manga was all we had back then lol
So, last time Skull Man and Tsuburaya Etsuko were planning something for the sports festival, and Iida saw Shiin gorging himself with takoyakis in the waiting room, but he had no idea that Our Hero would be there.
What gives, some of you ask. Well, read and find out…
Tuesday, 23rd of April 2069, Chisato Foundation CEO Office, sometime in the evening…
"You want me to do what now?"
"Compete in the sports festival and show the world what you can do."
Shiin was reclining on the sofa as he sighed out loud, pinching the bridge of his nose. "As much as I want to experience this, you know damn well how people would react to me, especially when you told me that I should…"
"Reveal yourself to the world, telling them that yes; you are an adult student-teacher in UA."
The Rider let out an undignified groan as he puts a sofa pillow to his face.
"I know, I know." Skull Man reassured, smirking at his reaction, "But it is for a good cause, I assure you."
"It's still bullshit." Shiin complained under the pillow, before taking it off to face the Skull Man, "To think that this is an elaborate way to shut that CEO up from making my public debut a secret… All those years of ass kicking not enough or something?"
"I do not think they would count your vigilante activities. If it's any consolation, because you're quirkless that particular vigilantism law they've been trying to enforce won't apply to you anymore once the truth comes out."
"You could also bail me out."
"True, but you're smart enough to avoid that situation from ever coming, I'm sure."
Exhaling a sigh, Shiin raised himself up to sit upright, and looked to his benefactor, "You might be my sponsor but considering what we've been through, that doesn't mean I would just do whatever you say."
"Understandable." Skull Man nodded, "It feels so long ago, but it was still a miracle that we survived that War… only for you to enter another one in this world. Searching for you was quite the monumental task, especially when your father-"
Shiin raised a hand to him, "Can we not, I'd rather focus on the now."
Smirking yet again, Skull Man obliged his 'investment' and get back on topic, "Very well, what exactly is your issue with this?"
Shiin frowned and shook his head, "Of all the… my 'issue' is that you're using the sports festival to show off."
"This is something you're familiar with." Skull Man added, "Considering these past few years, I thought you've become more open with others."
"I know I can be a showoff, but I'd rather do it in front of people I know, not some faceless crowd who will either be cheering or jeering at me."
"Such is the society we live in today… I still can't believe humanity has become like this."
"Me too…"
Using his telekinesis, Shiin pulled the mug of hot chocolate into his hand, and sipped it down for a few seconds. Floating it back down to the table, he looked to the Skull Man with frustration, "Kids these days can be so weird, but there are things from the old world that still exists that I can relate with."
Crossing his legs, Shiin leaned back as he continued, "Being singled out because you're too different from the rest, wishing you had something some other fellow have… common wishes and desires, but in this society all those feel so… foolish."
"Especially when you're quirkless." Skull Man added, causing Shiin to roll his eyes, "I know, I know. Considering we belong in that category, it is serendipity that we have powers to ensure we fit into this new status quo… but to those who are born powerless—to be born 'normal' in this age—they will have it harder than their ancestors."
"When everyone in the world is super… if your power is considered trash or you have none to use, they will see you as such. Fucking bullshit."
Shiin telekinetically pulled his mug and gulped down his hot chocolate until there's no more. He ignored the searing heat burning inside his mouth and throat to continue ranting, "This sports festival… I dunno who wrote that particular chapter in the books, but for it to replace the Olympics? That's stupid, who the hell would want to watch a bunch of highschoolers from a single country from a single school compete with each other? The Olympics are still around, Japan and the rest of the world still have athletes who'd compete the old-fashioned way, and they still have their audiences too. But not everyone have the right kind of bodies to compete in them, unfortunately. And everyone would rather have everything be like a fighting game and be flashy… I don't like showing off in a place like that. Not to mention the idea of me punching and kicking those kids…"
"Think of this as personal class session, and you're the teacher."
Skull Man leaned forward to his table, resting his chin on his gloved hands, "The lessons will be about how there are better fighters in this world; how to combat against a more experienced warrior; how to work as a team against said warrior; and maybe a few lessons in humility, for both you and them."
Shiin raised an eyebrow, but after putting the mug back down to the table, he leaned back and urged the Skull Man to continue, which he did with a smirk, "We both know how complacent the Japanese has become today… despite the passing decades, some things never change."
"You said it." Shiin muttered, "At least they're catching up with the rest of the world in some ways, but what are you suggesting, I shock them out of their stupor, change their worldview by breaking barriers and all that jazz?"
"Yes… for all the audiences watching."
Our Hero paused for a few seconds, before exhaling a sigh, "You know I'm trying to be a hero, right? My ideas of being one may differ from what's norm around here, but I'm not some idol who can easily cheer people up with my pep, dance moves, and singing."
"If I wanted you to be an idol, I'd have you guest star in a music video, have you wear flashy outfits… maybe have you sign a contract with Johnny's or—"
"Fuck those dinosaurs, are they still around?! Do I need to pull a few guerilla assist to their workers?"
"Oh, heavens no. They're long gone ever since the quirkening, I believe it happened after you were put into cryogenic sleep."
"Good… That reminds me, you bought out Toei, right? How the hell did you mop up the… undesirables?"
"Let's just say the quirkening was a most opportune time to do just that, not to mention how much time I had to be thorough… I'm sure you don't need to be reminded about your own cleanup operations."
Shiin's expression turned stoic at what Skull Man was implying. Shaking his head, he physically picked up the mug and gulped down its content until nothing is left. After licking and wiping off the leftovers on his lips, Shiin turned his attention back to the helmeted CEO, "Just… tell me the plan so I can get this over with, 'cuz going bug on live TV and livestreams ain't something I'd like to experience at all."
With a nod, Skull Man straightened his posture and patted his table, activating a hardlight keyboard. Typing a few commands, the holographic projectors displayed multiple separate screens, each having their own contents.
"I believe showing is easier than just telling… But first, I have a call to make."
"Who you calling?"
"The Winspectors; I've read their reports about the USJ 'invasion' as the media puts it, and found a mistake I want corrected."
Shiin raised an eyebrow at that, "And here I thought you weren't a grammar nazi."
The Skull Man shook his head with that ever present smirk of his, "Oh, nothing that petty… Do you remember that Bat Man you defeated? I believe he introduced himself to the captain after he identified him."
"Let me guess, it's a fake name and he didn't realize it? Don't be too harsh on the guy, will you?"
"I will be… disciplining him appropriately, don't worry. And I know you're wondering; his actual name is Yobayakawa Batto."
Shiin blinked at the new information he was given, before putting his face onto his palm, "Does everybody in this era name their kids with surprisingly appropriate and obvious names?"
Wednesday, 24th of April 2069, Sports Festival Stadium, Class 1A Waiting Room, 08:35 AM
"So… you're here to basically show-off? That's no different from what we're going to do, Kazamatsuri-san."
"Can't deny that, Midoriya my buddy. However, unlike you guys I'm not counted so you don't have to worry about competing against my high scores."
Shiin slouched on his chair, right leg on his left and right hand above it, resting his head on his palm. To his right was Midoriya with Mineta next to him. Surrounding the table Shiin sat by were Uraraka, Tsuyu, and Hagakure. Ashido and Ojiro were standing on the other side where Shiin was. Behind him was a 2nd table with Aoyama, Sato, Tokoyami, Shouji, and Koda. The 3rd table next to them had Todoroki, Kirishima, Kaminari, Sero, and Bakugou. And lastly, the 4th table was directly to Shiin's right, and only Jiro and Yaoyoruzu sat there; Iida wasn't in the room as he went out to check when the opening ceremony will begin.
Midoriya blinked at Shiin's response, turning around to his classmates, who were equally confused, "What do you mean by that?"
Rolling his eyes, Our Hero answered Midoriya, "It's obvious that as an adult man with decades worth of experience, by default I'll have unfair advantage against everyone who competes in the festival, regardless if you're in the tenth or twelfth grade. Because of that, my sponsor decided to unveil who I am to the country not just as a student-teacher, but as a guardian of UA. My presence and action in this festival will act as a deterrent to any future perpetrators who would dare to attack UA, so I had to go… wild a bit to show what happens if they're stupid enough to invade this school again. My sponsor will probably make some grandiose speech before the sports festival commences to explain it all, so if you want to know a bit more, pay attention to it… because I won't."
Shiin cranked his neck side-to-side as he let the boys of 1A process the information he just told them and returned to eat his takoyaki platter.
"Guardian of UA… what, you got appointed to be our banchou or some shit?"
Recognizing the rude voice, Shiin swallowed the last takoyaki whole as he turned to Bakugou, gym shirt slung over his right shoulder, "You know what, that's the exact title my sponsor used to describe the new… addition to my job here as student-teacher. I know, it's bullshit but it's an apt explanation."
"Considering that banchous were used to denote who's the toughest in a school… I guess me kicking your ass would still be worth it."
"Good luck getting through everyone else; despite you being a condescending jackass, surely you're not that big a fool to not pay attention to the potential strength all the UA students have, including our classmates."
"I'll crush every single one of you, that's for sure."
Suddenly, Kirishima broke the tension with his laughter, "Man, you're crazy! If you think you can beat all of us in under a minute, you got another thing coming!"
Bakugou glared at the redhead, who smirked in return. With a scoff, he put on his gym shirt and sat on his chair, turning away from Shiin.
Mineta noticed how uneasy The Rider looked, and approached him, "Hey, man… Why so glum?"
With a sigh, Shiin answered the grapehead, "Honestly… the idea of showing myself to the public like this feels wrong."
"Oh… Ah guess considering how drastic yer transformation is, Ah wouldn't want people to see it either."
"With the Kamen Rider suit, it wouldn't be a problem, but because supersuits aren't allowed…"
Widening his eyes, Mineta slammed a fist on his palm, "Ah see the problem now! Boy, all of Japan's gonna experience quite the shock when they… ya know."
"Yeah, I know…"
"I understand how you feel, Kazamatsuri-san."
Shiin turned his chair aside to look at Shouji, with a nod he urged the multi-armed boy to go on, "Considering how I look, I always feel anxious showing myself to the outside world. Every time I make my way to school, I usually see people slightly reeling at my appearance and hear their whispers… it is an unfortunate fact for many of us mutant types to be viewed that way."
Tokoyami nodded at Shouji before joining in on the conversation, "I concur; when I was younger I was teased over the fact that I have a crow's head instead of a… 'normal' head, and considering the stereotype people believed about the bird, I had difficulties making people trust me… dark times, they were."
"I'm with you two!" Ashido chimed in, causing Shiin to roll his eyes again as he had to switch positions again to look at the next person talking, "I know I might seem peppy most of the time, but there were times I felt blue because some people point and laugh and how I look. Of course, I didn't let it get me down because look at where I am now."
Spreading her arms to the other girls next to her, who responded with smiles (minus Hagakure for obvious reasons), meanwhile Kirishima looked at her with a prideful smile. Ashido then returned her attention to Shiin, "I wanna be the kind of hero that can help people get along, no matter how different their personalities or appearances are. I'm sure Shouji-tachi have their own ideas on what kind of heroes they want to be, but if need be, I like to help out."
Shouji lowered his head to the peppy pinkette, "Thank you, Ashido…"
A miniscule smile formed on Shiin's lips as he nodded slightly to her. Our Hero still feel unsure of what to do with his uneasiness, but before he could ponder a bit more he felt a hand on his shoulder, "What's up, Midoriya?"
"I… have a thought, Kazamatsuri-san."
Raising an eyebrow, he turned to the boy and gestured with his head to go on as Midoriya removed his hand, "Since your actions in this festival will be viewed by all kinds of people, with your main targets being villains in order to intimidate them… perhaps there's a positive side to this."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, have you considered who else would be watching?"
Shiin tilted his head down, mulling over what Midoriya was implying, and looked back up, "The civilians, obviously. Other Pro-Heroes who would scout for potential sidekicks, officials of all kinds doing the same for the non-hero kids… oh, and children who will be inspired by our actions, regardless of how we look and…"
Midoriya smiled as Shiin's face shifted into realization, but kept mum as Our Hero continued, "People… who are born with all sorts of quirks that will make them look outside the baseline human look."
Ashido snapped her fingers and smirked, "I think I get what you mean, Midoriya! Yeah, you could be an inspiration to everyone born with mutant type quirks; you could instill them with hope that they too can be heroes, no matter how different they look!"
"Like Gang Orca, ribbit."
"Exactly, Tsuyu-chan! He looks scary, but if someone like him can be one of the highest ranked Pro-Heroes of Japan, the sky's the limit. And considering what school we're in, you can definitely go beyond, Kazama-san."
Most of 1A began to voice their opinions on what potential good Shiin could've made if he made a public debut. Slowly, as Shiin listened to the classmates who voiced their opinions to him, Our Hero began to feel his confidence swelling up. Meanwhile, Koda was writing something on a notebook with incredible speed, before making his way to the Rider.
"Oh, what's this now?" Shiin queried as he took the notebook out of the boy's hands and read through the content. A few seconds passed as he kept reading it, before he turned to Koda with a smile, "You're very eloquent in your writing, man. Your kind words appreciated… and I'm somewhat disturbed at how fast you must've written this, especially with how flawless some of these kanjis looked, damn."
Ashido crooked her head aside, "What does it say?"
She got an answer with Shiin snapping the book shut, before giving it back to the owner, "Sorry, that's between me and Koda."
"Aww, that's no fun."
"What's important is that now… I'm a little motivated." Shiin smirked as he brushed his hair back.
Time: 08:45 AM
Just then, the door of the waiting room was opened as Iida Tenya returned, "Everyone, have you prepared everything? It's almost time for the opening ceremony!"
There was a pause in the moment, before Iida narrowed his eyes, "Why do I get the feeling that I just missed out on something important?"
Shiin chuckled at the class president, "Don't worry about it, Four-Eyes. Just getting psyched for the competition… well, except for me since I won't be competing."
"Ah, you did say that you aren't part of it due to the unfair advantage you have. It's a shame, but it can't be helped."
"Indeed."
"Oh, and Aizawa-sensei is looking for you. He's waiting for you in the presenter box."
Shiin rolled his eyes as he stood up and picked the takoyaki platter, "Let him wait, I need to digest these for a few minutes anyway." And then he threw it into the trash can.
Ashido stretched her arms up as her joints popped, "Man… kinda wish we can wear our supersuits for this."
"I get you, but you remembered what Aizawa-sensei told us," Ojiro chimed in, "We all have to wear the gym uniforms to ensure a fair match."
"I know… wouldn't it be hilarious if Kazama-san was allowed to compete?"
"Not sure if the audience and the rest of the school would see it that way."
The rest of Class 1A started their own pre-match rituals as Shiin cranked his neck aside, readying himself for whatever plotting Skull Man has in mind for him.
"Midoriya."
Our Hero turned to his left—where the lockers were located—and seeing Todoroki approaching his buddy as he passed by Kirishima.
"Todoroki, what is it?"
The Bithermal Boy's stoic expression didn't change as he stared at Midoriya, "If you looked at it objectively, I'm still far stronger than you."
A certain bugger coughed out loud, "Oh, sorry about that, go on."
Todoroki glared at Our Hero, "You don't count, remember? And besides, unlike you, Midoriya seems to be favored by All Might." The aforementioned boy frowned at the mention of the Number One, but he kept silent as Todoroki continued, "I don't plan to pry on whatever's going on between you two, but I have one thing planned; I will defeat you."
Shiin didn't say anything, curious at where this conversation was going. He heard Kaminari commenting at one of the strongest in 1A declared war on Midoriya, 'Seriously, another declaration of war? Kids these days are so dramatic.' He mused to himself as Kirishima tried to calm things down.
Todoroki mentioning that he doesn't plan nor care to make friends with anybody in UA intrigued Shiin, but he waited still as Midoriya countered Todoroki with his own minispeech. Our Hero smirked as his determination broke through his timidity. The Bithermal boy could only nod at Midoriya, and Shiin felt the irritation spilling out of Bakugo.
"Calm yourself, Todoroki!" Iida protested, waving his arms robotically, "I understand being competitive but I will not allow such hostility sour this event!"
"Well… I guess I have to go on without you guys." Shiin shook his head, amused at Iida's antics. He approached the door and turned around, "Just so you know… I fucking hate doing this."
"Language, Kazamatsuri!"
"Get used to it, Iida; you'll meet other future heroes with worse attitude than mine… and maybe even Bakugou, so consider the two of us as training subjects on foul heroes."
The Blonde Bomber growled at Our Hero, "I swear I'll blast your face to pieces, Buggy Bastard!"
"Gotta go through Icy-Hot and my Buddy over there, though. Try not to overexert yourself trying to come after me; do you wanna lose again because you got tunnel vision and cost your team to lose?"
Bakugou could only glare at Shiin, clenching his fists because he knew that if he blows up, figuratively and literally, it'll just add more ammunition for Shiin to use against him.
Iida however, did just that, "Kazamatsuri! Why are you wasting time antagonizing us?! If your plan is to encouragement via provocations, it is a foolish and an unnecessary one!"
"Yeah, yeah… Anyways, I'm officially on the clock now, save the threats when we're on the ring." Shiin waved his hand dismissively, walking out of the room. Just then, he grabbed the door handle and pulled himself back into the room, "Oh, and one more thing."
Shiin looked at Todoroki, who scowled at the Rider, "What is it?"
"You said that you don't care about making friends here, didn't you? And it's obvious you plan to come out on top today no matter who stands in your way."
"What's your point?"
Shiin collected his thoughts as he frowned at himself. Closing his eyes for a moment and exhaling a sigh, He opened his eyes and said, "We know you hate daddy dearest, but you do realize that kind of thinking will only make you follow on his footsteps even more, right?"
Shiin heard the rest of 1A hissing out air from their mouths, Todoroki's glare intensified as a literal chill emitted from his being.
Shiin ignored that and continued, "If you want to surpass him in every way… how about you don't do what he does, and make some real friends, perhaps be nicer to the rest of the students, and maybe melt that icicle stuck in your ass? Think about it, and you might find happiness someday."
With that, Shiin closed the door and made his way to wherever Aizawa is; thanks to his psychic powers, he could feel where semi-mummified teacher was and makes his way upstairs. As he walked down the hallway, he wondered if made the right choice, painting himself as the biggest target for Bakugou and Todoroki to hunt after by aggravating them. On one hand, those two needed some wake up calls to show that there will always be someone stronger…
"Great fucking job, Shiin. Provoke those two brats while also teaching them a lesson and simultaneously piss them off even more, I'm sure they listened to your stupid-ass. Student-Teacher of the goddamned Year, yes you are, you damned jackass."
On the other, Shiin wished he knew what to say to them in order to set them on a path to become better and adjusted people.
"Midoriya probably has a better chance getting through to their thick skulls… Eh, I'll probably be labeled public enemy one after today, so what the fuck." Shiin muttered to himself some more, the heavy weight in his heart slowing him down, "Even if these kids will hate me for it, their safety and livelihood are paramount to my own… I know some of them will get hurt one way or another, today or tomorrow; if I can teach them some things that would stick, then it's fine… One thing for sure, though."
Shiin saw Aizawa and Present Mic lounging near the door leading to the presenter box, and approached them with a grin. "Ready to show all those villains, active or potentially, why it's a bad idea to fuck with UA if they're stupid enough to do it again?"
Present Mic, Yamada Hizashi, responded with a smirk, "Hell yeah! Let's show the world that these kids aren't to be messed with, either!"
"You're both damn loud."
Shiin rolled his eyes, "Considering we're in a stadium, maybe you should go back to the hospital and rest if you can't handle the noise, shouldn't that be the most logical thing to do?"
Narrowing his eyes under the bandaged face of his, Aizawa did his best to show Shiin that he was frowning, "It should, but somebody has to keep you in check before unleashing you for the whole world to see."
To his surprise, Shiin exhaled a sigh and slumped his shoulders, "Gotta admit, still not looking forward for that; I know I'm ugly but no need for the rest of Japan to know about it."
Yamada scoffed at Our Hero, "Didn't expect you to be the kind to worry about his looks, Kazamatsuri. Don't worry, I'll make sure to talk about your good points when the show starts."
"I doubt you'll be able to sell the public about my other form."
Shiin noticed Yamada gulping, tugging his collar while hiding his true feelings with a laugh, "H-hey, it's not that big of a deal these days. Sure, I know you were there when the Quirk Genesis happened, I get why you're worried, but we got Pro Heroes like Gang Orca and Hound Dog. Yeah, they look mean but people love them because they know that inside, they're a couple of softies; even the kids love them!"
Shiin put on a smile, Aizawa noticed that it seems forced but kept mum as the Rider shrugged at Yamada, "I know Kamen Riders are still around on TV, so are the rest of the tokusatsu families, even though they're not as famous as they used to be thanks to you kids going around doing real life heroics."
"Speaking of which, remember the Hotta Brothers?" Aizawa interrupted, "Your so-called sidekicks called me a few days ago—dunno why I still have their numbers, or they mine—but they saw that photo of you on the news; the one that was taken the day those villains invaded the USJ, when you're about to ride off to wherever it was that you got your treatment."
Aizawa waited until Shiin leaned onto the walls, pinching the bridge of his nose and sighed. Our Hero looked exhausted, but still managed to smile—a genuine one this time—at Aizawa, "The… Hopper's Café is still around, huh?"
"Oh hey, they're the ones that accommodate people whose quirks made them larger than baseline humans, aren't they?" Yamada chimed in, "I think I remember tweeting Gang Orca's visit to the Hokkaido branch, even seeing patrons that look like those old youkais with the straws… what were they called again?"
"The Namahage, groups of oni whose purposes is to ensure kids don't laze around… kinda ironic for them to be there."
"Yeah, that! You into supernatural stuffs, Kazamatsuri?"
"I have psychic powers."
"Ah, point taken."
Aizawa grunted in frustration, "Anyway! Those two have been bugging me—"
Both Shiin and Yamada snickered at the Erasure Hero, who immediately realized what he just said, grumbled a bit, and then he decided to keep going, "They were looking for you, Kazamatsuri. And considering what's going to happen to you today, whether you like it or not, you're going have to meet some familiar faces after today."
Yamada looked at the two of them quizzically, before snapping his fingers, "That's right, you were there during the Naruhata Lockdown! I was busy finding and warning stray civilians with Sensoji but I think I saw you jumping around with a trenchcoat and a scarf? Don't exactly remember the details, but you basically fell off the radar afterwards…"
"Who's Sensoji?"
"Oh, you know, Mister Blaster? He's a hero course alumni like Aizawa, Kayama, and I, except he's on class B."
"… Who? Also, you two were in the same class as Midnight?"
"I imagine your dream highschool scenario would've worked if you're our classmate… but you would still be physically in your thirties if you woke up in our time, so whatever you're thinking, keep dreaming."
"I'll make a yoyo out of you and that scarf of yours, Aizawa."
Yamada sighed, "Man, I forgot you didn't care much about other Pro Heroes back then. I remember the Pussycats' story about meeting you, but other than that you're basically a ghost… Yet here you are, about to walk into the biggest spotlight Japan has. I get that you're nervous and scared, but I also get the feeling that you're still going anyway. What changed?"
Shiin grimaced, folding his arms together, "I… After what happened in Naruhata, I basically went soul searching because I can't just wander aimlessly anymore. Skycrawler's stuck in the US because of the stupid vigilante laws here, Knuckleduster's basically an elusive urban legend, and a lot of the people I've met have moved onto happier, normal lives… I was stuck, still feel like I am; I know it's different today, but the old fears don't just go away because it's been normalized."
"Sure, compared to the more extreme mutations some people were born with today, mine's relatively tame. Hell, I can switch between human and bug form, I can imagine the resentment from the ones with mutant type quirks…" Shiin continued, moving away from the wall and turning away from them. After a few seconds, Shiin turned to face them, laughing mostly at himself, "But the kids… my classmates? They made me realize that I could be something more; the kids and adults who have mutant quirks, I can help them somehow, show the world that it's okay to look… different. Show them that someone like them is capable of becoming heroes. Yeah, I'll get shit because I can transform and all, but it won't change the fact that I'm here to help however I can."
"It appears you've finally figured out one of the purposes of your reveal, Young Master."
Aizawa and Yamada choked a bit of air as a figure wearing a skull helmet seemed to appear behind Shiin, who just made a disgusted noise as he turned to the man, "Another ploy you're not telling me, Chrome Dome? Why am I not surprised…"
"Where the hell did you come from?!" Yamada exclaimed, "I didn't even see you walk down the hallway!"
Aizawa composed himself, and slowly realized who it was, "So… you're the Skull Man."
"Yes I am." He replied with a smirk, "Thank you for calling the Young Master here, it's far easier to brief him when the kids aren't around."
Shiin turned around to Aizawa, "Wait, you didn't actually want to talk to me about something?"
"I was asked to keep you occupied." Aizawa admitted, "But the thing about the Hotta Brothers? That was real… not that it's any of my business, but I get the feeling they actually missed you. It might be logical to keep your distance to protect them, but I understand that kind of thinking will only lead to suffering, or so I was told."
Yamada wrapped an arm around Aizawa's shoulder, and smirked, "Oh please, you miss them too! You're just too shy to say hello before they actually called you."
"You're too damn loud."
As the two Pro Heroes began to argue, Shiin stared the Skull Man, who was still smirking. But in reality, they were speaking… just not verbally.
[I believe you've seen what I have in mind for this event; far easier than just talking about it, no?] Skull Man tilted his head a bit.
Shiin narrowed his eyes, [I… Let me get this straight; transform in public, go through the obstacle course after giving the kids a one minute head start—while showcasing my psychic powers—and win the race, then I have to basically be the bonus boss for this event depending on the outcomes and finally… you want me to fight someone?]
[Let's just say… her excitement to fight you is Plus Ultra. And no, it's not Mirko.]
Skull Man cocked his head aside, his ever present smirk annoying Shiin as he scratched his head, [Fuck, I wish my telepathy is as advanced as yours.]
[I'm sure you'll reacquire that ability someday as you level up, now let's not let these two hanging.]
Shiin exhaled a sigh, turning around to the two UA alumni, "Yamada, when's the show starting?"
Yamada was pushed away by Aizawa, and turned his attention to Our Hero, "Exactly at nine, if you hurry you two might make it there before I start the announcements."
"Thank you, and Aizawa?"
The Erasure Hero glanced at the Skull Man, "You got something else to add?"
"I do… and a handful of changes. Don't worry, it's nothing severe."
"… Why do I have a bad feeling about this?"
Sports Festival Stadium, Main Arena, 09:05 AM
"It's been so much fun introducing this competition; I've certainly loved having you all right with me…"
Midoriya gulped at Midnight's seductive tone, he remembered reading at how provocative she can be. He understood that most of the time she's just playing a part of a dominating woman, but he couldn't help but look away, hoping the pro heroine would tone it down for the festival.
'This is a public event!' He thought to himself, 'Is it really okay for her to make such… lewd gestures and noises? Control yourself, Midoriya!'
Midnight sighed dramatically, unfortunately for Midoriya, sounding a bit lewdly for his taste, "But now, it's time for me to hand over this long, hard, sturdy microphone to someone really… special."
Midoriya could hear the guys behind him gulping, a particular someone breathing heavily, and… some of the girls doing the same? He wasn't sure if they came from his classmates or the other classes, and frankly, he'd rather not know, lest his thoughts wandered into undignified places.
"This special someone is particularly shy, averting himself to the media spotlight as often as he could." Midnight explained, "But nevertheless, this Pro Hero gets the job done, and when he has something to say, I guarantee you that it's going to be something juicy!"
"A Pro Hero's coming on stage? Could she be talking about All Might?" Midoriya commented, narrowing his eyes, "No, judging from what she's saying, it seems to be an underground hero…"
"He's quite fashionable for someone who avoids attention, and that cloak of his adds to the mystique alongside that fancy helmet of his. I would love to have it wrapped around me… " Midnight continued, a sultry smile forming as she described this pro hero, "But enough about that. Without further ado, may I present to you all, the Skullduggery Spymaster himself, the Skull Man!"
The Hero gasped, "It can't be."
"You recognize the name, Midoriya?" Kirishima asked, tapping his shoulder from behind.
Midoriya hesitated, but turned around, "Do you remember Kazamatsuri-san mentioning a sponsor?"
Kirishima frowned as he thought for a moment, before widening his eyes, "I remember, you think that's who'll appear? I wonder what's the big deal is… and where is he?"
Midoriya turned back to the platform, it was a meter and a half tall and covered with a red cloth emblazoned with the UA emblem, and see that Midnight holding her pose that she did to introduce the Skull Man.
"AWKWAAAAAAARD!"
The loudspeakers broke the silence, no surprise who did it.
"SHUT UP, PRESENT MIC! NOT MY FAULT HE'S FASHIONABLY LATE!"
While this shenanigan was happening, Midoriya was scanning around the area for any signs of a person approaching the platform. Not a soul walked out of the 4 entryways into the stadium.
'Could he be a flier?' Midoriya wondered, looking up and shielding his eyes from the sun, no clouds covering the ball of fire. 'I don't think there's any underground heroes that can fly, with a quirk or a support item… then again, they were given that moniker for a reason.'
For a few seconds, hushed murmurs from the crowd filled the arena… and then he appeared.
"Hello there."
The 18+ Heroine almost shrieked at the voice coming from behind her, but the surprise caused her to throw the microphone up and slipped. In an instant, the man put an arm around her waist, preventing her from falling, and stretched the other arm out, letting it fall into his hand.
"Yes, I am a bold one."
Midoriya ignored the noises coming from the crowds, seeing that something was amiss, especially with how the mic fell, 'Did it just move into his hand… can it be?'
"Holy crap!" Kaminari exclaimed, "Where the hell did he come from?! I wasn't even blinking and he's just… right behind her!"
"That's the Skull Man?" Kirishima whispered, "I thought he'd be a skeleton themed hero, judging by the name, not… whatever it is he's wearing."
Midoriya stroked his chin as he watched the Skull Man; his head completely covered by an appropriately bone white helmet that has a large pair of red eyes, with only the lower half of his face being the only visible flesh seen by others. His chin hidden under the "lower jaw" of his helmet.
The Skull Man's neck was entirely covered by a black collar that has the skull and crossbones emblem in front of his adam's apple, the rest of his upper body surrounded by a black cloak that was red in the… inside parts? (Midoriya thought to ask Kacchan on how to describe what Skull Man's wearing considering Uncle Masaru worked in the fashion industry, but no way he'll even answer him. Would Kacchan even know what to say?)
"Bonehead's wearing some old-fashioned military shit, don't care if it's from the Taisho or Meiji period, now shut the fuck up already, Deku!"
Midoriya promptly put a hand over his mouth.
"It has begun…"
Midoriya turned around, and there stood Shiin with his arms crossed together, a stony expression looking on as Our Hero sees his benefactor doing his bit.
"I thought you'd be up there with Skull Man, Kazamatsuri-san?" Midoriya asked, before a realization dawned on him, "Did something happened when you talked with Aizawa-sensei?"
"You could say that."
Midoriya didn't get a chance to ask why Shiin gave a vague answer as the Skull Man began his speech.
"Quirks. Where did they start, where will they end? History said that it all began in a small town in China, but who's to say that there were others before the Child of Light was born, only they were either kept hidden or… disposed of, fearing that those children are demons or mutants, in order to protect themselves."
The Ninth Inheritor felt a pang of sadness and guilt, never thinking about the possibilities until Skull Man it pointed out.
"For decades, quirks have spread, to the point where the once hated 'mutants' are now the majority. But is that the only source of Meta Abilities… of superpowers? I have asked myself this question many, many times with a few select individuals, and we have come to a conclusion: you, young heroes-to-be, won't just be facing enemies who use quirks. I'm sure I don't need to explain how deadly firearms are, or despite their antiquity, a sharp piece of stick can still hurt you. One lucky hit, one momentary distraction, could mean life or death. However, weapons aren't the only dangers you'll face."
Skull Man dramatically swings his arm back, and a holographic screen projected behind the stage as multiple images expanded into being. Midoriya watched as they consist of photographs of the early days of the quirkening, as Shiin puts it, and still pictures of a few select heroes and villains of old—most of the former would be counted as vigilantes today.
Midoriya narrowed his eyes at these long gone individuals, 'Hold on, I don't recognize some of them…', but he had to think about them later as he listened to Skull Man's speech.
"Cyborgs, supersoldiers, advanced combat robots, new and unknown strains of mutants—sorry, quirked individuals—who were born with abilities that are so unthinkable they can be considered legitimate superpowers only seen in comic books, anime, or any other fictional medium… I'm sorry to say that you are not ready. Not even the third years."
The Inheritor widened his eyes as his classmates murmured to themselves, Midoriya frowned as he had a thought, and looked up to Shiin, "Wait… is this because of those Centurion Shocker villains that you fought?"
Shiin could only nod as his answer.
"Hey, hold up." Kaminari piped in, "I just realized that there's absolutely no mention of them in the news, not even the forums. Let me guess; information blackout?"
Shiin turned to the blond, who gulped at his stony expression, as he answered him, "Like Chrome Dome said, you are not ready. And keep it between 1A, no need to make everyone panic."
"However, worry not for we shall change that."
Skull Man's speech went on, Shiin exhaled a sigh as he knew that the time is coming.
"Starting this year, and with Principal Nedzu's consent, I have been running a test; an adult, who had already cut his teeth helping pro heroes from the shadows, yet he did so without a license of his own. Naturally powerful and clever, he's attending this academy to gain said license… and prepare you all for the dangers out there."
Most of the audience gasped at the implication; an adult vigilante in UA? That sentence boggles the mind, and Shiin could feel the negativity coming from the minds of the audiences… both on those seats and from the rest of the students.
Our Hero put a hand on Midoriya's shoulder, gripping it as he attempts to steady himself. The Inheritor felt the strength of his grip, but he was focused on something more important.
"Kazamatsuri-san… you got this."
Shiin looked down to the boy, clenching one fist and nodding to him, and gave him a smile. Closing his eyes for a moment, Shiin opened them and Midoriya saw the determination burning within them as he walked pass their classmates.
Time: 09:10AM
Skull Man beckoned someone among the students below the podium, the cameras showing a tall student walking towards it. He put a hand on the edge and pulled himself up with ease, astonishing a few students as he stood there with his back turned.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Skull Man swung an arm to the figure, his cloak flowing back as he smirked to the cameras, "Hiding among the students so far, he is now revealed, a surprise obstacle for all of you to overcome—a real life lesson that will hit hard… May I present to you Kazamatsuri Shiin!"
Shiin knew he won't get any cheers or applause. So with hands in his pockets, he turned around to the students and maintained a stoic face as he tuned out whatever noises coming from the audience. Looking down to his classmates, he saw confusion from the others, and anger from two particular individuals… yet only one smiled at him.
He gave Midoriya another nod before staring at the one wall of the stadium far behind the students as Skull Man finished up his speech, "Do you have what it takes to take on this new challenger, or anything else this festival will give you? Kazamatsuri does. Either you defeat him and take the top spot, or you let him go unchallenged as the banchou of this school; whatever your choices are, you better give it your best."
Shiin couldn't help but roll his eyes, [Did you really have to use that term?]
[It gets the appropriate reactions, Young Master.] Skull Man replied mentally, [I understand you're tuning these people out, but I assure you; things will change for the better. Speaking of change, one of your classmates is approaching.]
"What the shit is this, Kazamatsuri?!"
Shiin already knows who that is. He raised an eyebrow as he stared back at Bakugou, "You said that you ain't gonna compete to make things fair and shit for the rest of us, that wasn't the deal!"
Fortunately for him, nobody could hear what he was saying and you had to have super sensitive ears to catch all that. Shiin responded using the smuggest expression he could make, and leaned down with hands still in his pockets, "The deal has been altered, Bakugou. Pray that it won't be altered any further. And thanks for finally using my name, birthday boy."
"That was four days ago you jackass, and don't you dare repeat what you said to the hag here!"
"… Just keep blazing it for the rest of the festival, Bomberman."
Shiin leaned back and stepped away from the edge of the stage, his smug grin never leaving his face. Bakugou could only grit his teeth and glare at Our Hero. He glanced at the other students, and Shiin felt even more negativity from the lot of them; 1B has one particularly negative boy on their side. Shiin sneered at Monoma, a bored expression infuriating the boy as he sneered back at him.
And then he saw Kendo Itsuka, her worried expression looking at him.
Our Hero's sneer dissolved as his eyes set on the girl. He could only offer a shrug and a shake of his head before Skull Man interrupted whatever reactions people were having at the moment.
"Save the teasing for the match, Young Master." The Skullduggery Spymaster pat Shiin on his shoulder, raising his microphone and addressing the people, "I'm sure you're all very eager for answers, but fret not; I shall be taking whatever questions you have after the Young Master here gives out the athlete's oath which I'm sure he's been mulling over for these past few hours."
Shiin raised both eyebrows and frowned at the Skull Man, "I never asked for this, Chrome Dome."
That nickname was picked up by the microphone, causing even more of the audience to be aghast. Fortunately, Shiin heard laughter coming from some of them, and many students snickered at Shiin's reaction and incredulous tone.
"Neither does every Pro Heroes who gets microphones shoved into their faces by overeager journalists, now cheer them up, why don't you?"
Shiin didn't realize when Skull Man pulled his left hand out of the pocket it was residing in and put the mike into it, but it was too late as he stepped away from Shiin. The glare he's giving resulted in Skull Man coyly tilting his head and beckoned Our Hero to talk.
Pinching the bridge of his nose, Shiin cranked his neck aside, joints popping aloud, and raised the microphone next to his mouth, "As you can see, Chrome Dome here does whatever he wants, and I have to deal with his nonsense. He's more demanding than a mother, I swear…"
Clearing his throat, Shiin continued on, "So… yes, not only am I an adult, but I was a former vigilante, attending UA in order to gain a hero license. I know there are other ways for me to gain it, but as Bonehead has explained, he and Nedzu have something else in mind, hence me being here. Just for the record, I am not competing in a traditional sense; you don't need to worry about getting a higher score than me, but as he explained you have to defeat me to stand a chance. I'm no Sheng Long, but let me warn you that I will not hold back."
Shiin pressed on as the students paid attention to him, "I know not all of you will go out there and fight criminals, but out there, anything can go wrong and no curriculum could prepare you for whatever dangers lurking out there. True, it is harsh for a grown man to beat the crap out of teenagers, but those villains out there do not give a damn! If you're lucky, the reasonable ones won't fight too hard, some might even surrender…"
VIP Room, 09:13AM
Tsuburaya Etsuko leaned forward from her chair as she listened to Shiin's speech, using an advanced zoom function from the window to get a closer look, then he pointed a finger at a camera and glared at it. It was fortunate that she has all the room to herself for the moment, because her muttered swearing gets audible each time Our Hero say anything.
What a total a tsun.
"However, I know you scums out there watching won't hesitate. I understand many of you have been given bad deals in life, but the moment you harm the defenseless and especially children, you've lost your humanity cards in my eyes. I will teach these students how to fight back against slimeballs like you in a way that will make you regret everything."
Etsuko kept quiet as he looked back to the students, "You will feel pain, you will feel exhaustion, but I promise you that regardless of what happens today—and whether you like it or not—I will help you become better than you are now. The same goes to the rest of you from general studies, support courses, and business classes; you all have the potential to become heroes and if you so choose, I will gladly be one of the people who will help you up. Show the world that you don't need fancy quirks to make it in life!"
Etsuko raised an eyebrow at that, "Huh… what's your game, Kazamatsuri?"
"For that to happen however, you must proof yourselves to me how bad you want to win… by defeating me."
The CEO felt her jaw dropped. Such audacity from that guy, and that damned smugness came back as he clenched a fist to the students.
"Keep your medals and trophies, and worry not about taking away my points or whatever. Just consider me a bonus boss for some of the events, and maybe they'll give you extra points or something each time you beat me… if you can."
Etsuko saw the same blonde kid with the temper shouting something to Shiin, in which he replied, "You think the villains out there doing crime and watching this show will care about your age? Yes, I will show little mercy by hurting you all because they will show none. If any of you managed to make me feel something from whatever attacks you're going to use, perhaps you have what it takes out there."
Etsuko saw Skull Man clearing his throat behind Shiin, obviously telling him to wrap it up.
And wrap it up he did, "You want an oath? Here's mine; I swear I'll drag you all to glory kicking and screaming; if you want to walk that path yourself, try and wrench yourself off of my finger. Who Dares, Win!"
Etsuko could feel the crowds roaring at his declaration, the students doing the same. Etsuko muttered to herself, "I can't tell if they're encouraged or outraged, whatever they're feeling it ends with aged… just like you'll be when I kick your ass, Kazamatsuri."
Just then, as Shiin lobbed the microphone back to Skull Man, his head turned to a specific direction… her direction. She stood up and glared back at him, even though the glass was tinted from the outside, Etsuko knew he saw… no, felt her presence through the glass.
Shiin scoffed and raised two fingers, wagging them repeatedly, before making his way to Skull Man and crossed his arms, turning to the students.
Etsuko was conflicted. On one hand, she was furious at Shiin's attitude, causing her hands to glow brightly. She tried to calm hand dimmed herself, but on the other hand… she was motivated.
"I dunno what I'm feeling right now, but maybe after I kicked your ass, I'll finally get my head sorted out and be done with it. Get ready for a rumble, you handsome devil…"
The instant she said that, her lights immediately ceased to exist. Etsuko began to find the walls of the room to be very intriguing as she wrapped an entirely foreign idea in her mind.
"… Why the fuck did I say that? As if I find him cute, no goddamned way that maverick jackass could charm someone like me, no way in hell."
Time: 09:15AM
"AAAAAND STAART!"
Before she could ponder this alien feeling within her, Etsuko heard Midnight beginning the obstacle course with her shout. Shaking her head, Etsuko sat back down to calm herself. The CEO watched as the students crammed themselves into the tight space separating the stadium and outside. She widened her eyes as Shiin was still standing on the podium, conversing with Kayama.
She clicked her tongue because neither of them had microphones close to their mouths, and she couldn't read lips to understand what kind of conversation they're having. A few seconds later, she saw something… mesmerizing.
Shiin guffawed at whatever Kayama said to him, and gave the sweetest smile she's ever seen in her life. Gone was the stoic, gruff looking jackass… Etsuko saw a man who has been hiding his feelings for so long, and for some reason she could hear whispers in her ears.
Because someone was actually doing that.
"See something you like, Tsuburaya-sacho?"
Etsuko threw her right arm to her left, the hand was glowing bright blue before a ring of light formed above her knuckles and flew to the Skull Man!
He neither flinched nor craned his neck aside as the projectile embedded itself into the wall, scarring it with a perfectly vertical line as it dissolved into nothingness.
"Sunnovabitch!"
"Language, Tsuburaya-sacho."
"Shut up, how the fuck did you even get here so fast!?"
Skull Man chuckled as he sat down on a chair a meter apart from hers, "Perhaps if you were paying more attention to your surroundings, you would've heard me open the door."
"Bullshit, you probably teleported in here." Etsuko countered, "Is that your quirk or something?"
"Or something."
Etsuko glared daggers at him, but Skull Man ignored her to watch the obstacle course in progress, "The Young Master is giving the students a two minutes head start, which I'm sure you're wondering. He needs to prepare himself because what he's about to do will… change everything."
Her anger slowly faded as curiosity replaced it instead. Etsuko returned her sights to the arena, and raised an eyebrow as Shiin took of his shoes and socks, setting them aside. "What's he doing?"
"Like I said… it will change everything."
Widening her eyes, Etsuko knew what he meant, "He's transforming? Is that really a good idea?"
"Maybe… maybe not." Skull Man rested his chin on his hands, "I shall deal with whatever fallout that comes from today's events. Shiin needs this to better himself not just as a future hero, but as a person. The usual strength of character test, basically. Any second now…"
Whatever Etsuko was about to say got stuck in her throat as Shiin just flipped his shirt off, revealing a muscular torso. She would've seen Kayama playfully swooning at the display, but she was… busy.
The zoomed livefeed from the windowscreen gave her a clear look at his glistened body, Shiin flexed his arms and did some stretches, Etsuko held her breathe as he combed his fingers through his hair.
09:17AM
In an instant, a pair of antennae popped out of Shiin's forehead.
"Holy shit!" Etsuko cried out, "He's really doing it!"
Skull Man couldn't help but smirk, seeing a grown woman acting like an excited tomboy watching a wrestling match, 'I believe the proper saying is… she got it down, bad.'
Shiin spread his arms apart, before slowly moving them in a half-circle motion, covering his face in an X position. Etsuko saw his eyes turn red, and his skin beginning to turn green.
And then, somehow without any audio devices… she heard him.
"Hennnnnshhiiinnn"
Everyone heard him.
Everyone saw him.
Everyone will talk about him.
Everyone knows… a Kamen Rider has arrived.
The date is 19/7/2022… my 30th birthday.
Kept y'all waiting, huh? You guys have no idea how stuck I was making this chapter; I couldn't find a good justification for Shiin to be there in the festival... fortunately, I have a friend who helped out. Thanks, Dragon.
Life is hell, it's difficult to get motivated to do anything these days. And then there's this bullshit where the Indonesian Government is censoring the internet or something… starting tomorrow.
I won't go into details because I'm sure you can google it yourselves, but I will tell you all that I will keep writing my stories. I dunno when the next chapters arrive, I dunno if whatever new stories I have will be published, but I will keep writing. Fuck those retarted dinosaurs in the government. Calling them dinosaurs is an insult to those magnificent creatures, but... yeah.
I've seen Top Gun Maverick and it was worth every rupiah. I also finally saw Kamen Rider Beyond Generations, and I love Kamen Rider Century. I wish to use him… or rather, them, in a story someday.
Anyways, yeah I'm 30 now. It feels unreal, but it is what it is, growing old. I don't feel different, but at the same time, I feel new. Here's hoping things will go better for not just me and my family, but all of us, yeah?
