Here is chapter 2 of "Welcome Home"!
Bill had been walking around Gravity Falls all afternoon. He watched the rain both begin and end twice. His hair had gotten a bit wet by the rain, though he hadn't managed to get his typical yellow T-shirt and black jeans wet. He looked over across the street to see a donut shop. Bill knew that fleshbags had to eat to avoid death, so he crossed the street without bothering to look both ways, and started towards the front door.
The parking lot was empty for all but two vehicles; A red truck, and a grey car. Bill placed his hand on the transparent glass door and pushed his hand forward to make the door open. He took a step forward and glanced inside the room with khaki colored walls and dark brown furniture. The room's lights that hung above on the ceiling were bright. He made the mistake of looking directly up at one. He squinted his eyes shut and gave a mix of a groan and a chuckle.
To Bill's left, he saw a middle-aged man in a light green T-shirt with short, brown hair. He observed the human as he had sipped some coffee out of a mug, downing half of it at once. Bill quickly broke eye contact when the man caught Bill observing him. The dream demon shut the glass door behind him, making a small bell attached to the door ring. He exclaimed in alarm and glared up, putting his hands out in front of him to defend himself against the attack device. He feared what the bell would do and if it would try to attack him.
Aside from the strange sudden beating in his chest, Bill heard feminine laughter. Behind the counter of the donut shop stood a young woman with long, brown hair drying a clear glass with a towel. He turned and made eye contact with the laughing woman. She set the glass down on the counter and put her hands beside the register.
"Is this your first time seeing a doorbell," She began, "Or are you from some sort of other dimension in the universe?" The lady asked in an obviously sarcastic manner, chuckling at her own taunt.
Bill just glared at the worker. "Look lady, I don't know what kind of magic you run in this place, or why you're using it to mock me about mine being lost after this summer. But regardless of that, I'd rather avoid being taunted by a worthless fleshbag drying a drinking cup. Alright?" He shot, fists planted on the counter. The worker stared at him for a moment, the room going silent. It wasn't long until she began bursting out laughing once more.
"Well, you sure didn't lose your magic sense of humor, stranger! What'll it be?" The woman asked Bill in an attempt to get his order. Bill just raised an eyebrow. He stared the lady down, completely dumbfounded by how dense she was acting.
"...Do you know who I am?" Bill asked in a serious tone, his hands clenching into fists once more.
The woman just smiled. "You're a goofball. I'm Karen. "She greeted, holding out her hand to Bill for a handshake. The demon hesitated at first but after a moment returned the gesture, still confused on why this lady was being so welcoming towards him. So kind. Karen smiled, and walked towards the kitchen. Bill watched her leave and return with a plate in hand. She set a chocolate coated donut with rainbow sprinkles on the counter, and slid the plate across the counter to Bill. "Take this. On the house!" She said with a smile, offering Bill a wink.
Bill ignored the eye gesture and looked down at the donut. He admitted that the pastry didn't look bad, but Karen could easily be lying to him behind her smiles and friendly attitude. Bill had a strong feeling that the sugarcoated treat was a trap of some kind. As if the sugary pastry would poison him and get rid of him once and for all. Perhaps the town had created emergency measures within the past few months just in case the terrible demon were to return. And while Bill was in a way flattered that the people of the town would think to look out for his dangerous presence in that way, he did find it unnecessary for the state he was in now. Not that he would ever tellanyone that, of course.
Bill looked up at Karen. "Is it poisoned?' He asked, hoping for a legitimate answer.
Karen burst into laughter, until she noticed the serious look on his face. "No, silly!" She cooed. Bill's nose scrunched at the way the woman seemed to belittle him. Karen took back the plate and revealed a butter knife from under the counter. Bill cautiously stepped back, and put his hands in front of him, assuming she would chuck the knife his way. Instead, she sliced the donut into 4 pieces and popped one into her mouth. She downed the quarter of the donut and looked over at Bill, who was examining her, looking for a negative reaction of some sort.
"You see? Perfectly harmless!" Karen assured, passing the plate back to Bill across the counter. He held the plate in his hands eventually, and walked towards a booth near a large window. Karen watched him go to his seat as she grabbed another cup behind her to dry.
As Bill sat down, he put his hands under his chin, elbows on the table. He looked down once more at the donut. Multiple times Bill had wondered if it was all a trap. Who gives out free donuts to complete strangers? Bill asked himself. He sighed as he felt his stomach growl. He knew it was for the best he accept the pastry. Not staying fed would eventually cause him to weaken and perish, and while that didn't seem too bad to him, he decided to down a piece of the donut.
Bill waited hesitantly for nearly two minutes of feeling perfectly fine, and downed another piece. He didn't feel any side effects of any kind, and decided to finish the sweet treat. If he was being honest with himself, that treat complimented his taste buds. It was sweet and creamy, with small crunchy bits on top. He sat up and looked at his plate once more. The plate was cleared, except for a bit of frosting and leftover sprinkles. He smeared his hand across the plate to get the rest of the icing and walked towards the door. He then placed his hand into his mouth, sucking on it before taking his hand out and shaking the saliva off it.
So, there's chapter 2. Stick around! The next chapter will focus more on the story and it's plot. I know the first two chapters have been slow, but there's a lot coming. I'm always open for suggestions to add into my story (Even if you're reading this two years after the fic was started), so feel free to write a review about whatever you want!
