Sweet Kalos Chapter 2
"Alright, who do you pick?" asked Tierno, "The grass type, Chespin, the fire type, Fennekin, or the water type, Froakie?"
"So its name is Chespin,'' thought Calem as he was looking at the spiky pokemon. "I'll pick Chespin,'' Calem said hesitantly.
"Pin pin," the Pokemon said cheerfully.
"Hey there Chespin, I'm Calem." Tierno handed Chespins Pokeball to him.
"Congratulations!" Shauna said.
"Thanks," said Calem who was still starstruck from getting his first Pokemon. Chespin jumped into the arms of Calem.
"Looks like you two are getting along quickly," said Serena while smiling. She then turned to Shauna and said, "Shauna I'll let you have the second pick".
"No way really", Shauna said.
"Of course, you're my best friend," Serena said with a warm smile.
"Thank you thank you thank you," Shauna said with an excited look as if it was Christmas morning.
"So Shauna who is it going to be?" asked Tierno.
"I choose Froakie," exclaimed Shauna. "I like its yellow eyes, they're the same color as Calem's backpack,'' said Shauna happily. She was acting like a little kid. It was as if she was six instead of sixteen.
Calem chuckled and said, "Yeah I guess so". Froakie was running around happily.
"I can't wait to go on a journey with you Froakie."
"Welp Serena looks like you'll take Fennekin," said Tierno. Fennekin gave a happy yawn while Serena petted her new Pokemon.
"Hi Fennekin, I'm Serena, thanks to you I can be a real Pokemon trainer now!" said Serena joyfully.
"Pardon me Calem but I have something for you from Professor Sycamore," chimed Trevor.
"Oh what is it?" asked Calem.
"It's a Pokedex," said Trevor. "It helps you understand Pokemon from a deeper level and perspective," the orange-haired boy explained, "It's a high-tech device that logs data about the Pokemon you catch or encounter". Trevor handed him the Pokedex, "The Professor wants us to log data on every Pokemon we encounter!"
"I see", said Calem.
"Trevs you're so serious sometimes when it comes to Pokemon research," said Tierno with a laugh.
"Hey what can I say, I'm passionate about it," he responded.
"When will I meet the Professor?" asked Calem.
"Well his lab is in Lumiose City," Tierno said.
"Where's that?" Calem asked with curiosity while pulling out his map.
"Ah it's only the biggest city in the world," said Tierno with a smirk. "You can't miss it, it's in the heart of Kalos," he said.
"Can't wait to see it," said Calem.
"It's a really lovely city," chimed in Shauna who still seemed intrigued by Calem's story.
"Welp we're done with our errand for the Professor, come on Trevs, let's get something to eat," said Tierno.
"You just ate before we got here!" exclaimed Trevor.
"Ah come on I'm hungry," said Tierno as they left.
"They are something else," sighed Serena.
"So what are you gonna do now Calem?" asked Shauna.
"Well I'm gonna shop for a while then say bye to my mom for the final time before I start traveling," said Calem.
"Sounds fun, I'm gonna go home for a while and bond with my new Pokemon," said Shauna.
"How about you Serena?" asked Calem. "I'm going to go home and pack for my journey," said a determined Serena. "I'll see you guys later", Serena said. She dashed off to Vaniville Town.
"Hey Calem, let's battle," said Shauna.
Calem was caught off guard, "Like a real battle?"
"Yeah, we're both Pokemon trainers now so why not," she said.
Calem found the courage to say, "Then let's do it."
"Alright let's do this my little Froakie," said a cheerful Shauna.
"Come on, let's win this Chespin," said Calem. "What is even Chespin's attacks," Calem wondered while holding up his Pokedex. Froakie was a water type so Chespin had the advantage. "Chespin knows tackle and vine whip," Calem read to himself. "Chespin, let's try using vine whip," commanded Calem. Chespin released vines from his body that slapped the opposing blue frog.
"Froakie use bubble," Shauna said. She didn't have the same cheerful tone she had a minute ago. Now she was determined. Froakie released a series of bubbles that struck Chespin.
"Chespin use tackle and corner Froakie," shouted Calem. Chespin rammed into Froakie as hard as he could. "Now follow it up with vine whip." Chespin used a short-ranged vine whip. Froakie whimpered in pain as it struggled to stand.
"No Froakie!" yelled Shauna. Shauna scooped up Froakie.
"Sorry," Calem said in a concerned tone.
"It's alright, that's what happens in Pokemon battles," said Shauna, "You did well". Froakie snuggled up against Shauna. "I better get some potions, I'll see you later", she said.
"See ya Shauna," said Calem kindly. "Poor me, going on a Pokemon journey with two pretty girls as my rivals," he thought sarcastically. "Something doesn't feel right," he said to himself. "Something is missing". "Maybe I need a new outfit," he whispered to himself, "Maybe I'll find something in Nanab Republic". Calem entered the clothing store.
"Hello, welcome to Nanab Republic, are you looking for anything in particular?" asked a worker.
"Ah yes, do you have any trainer outfits?" asked Calem.
"Well I believe we might have a few sets, let me look," she said. The worker came back with several sets of clothes. Calem looked through them. Some of them didn't match colors and weren't original. That was until one outfit caught his eye. The outfit came with a red hat and sunglasses, they almost looked like Serenas. It had a blue windbreaker jacket with a white vertical stripe down the middle and on the sleeves. It also had navy blue cargo pants. To top it off, it came with a blue and black bag and a belt for Pokeballs.
"I think I'll take this one," said Calem happily.
"Alright then I'll ring you up," said the clerk.
"Wait, do you have any shoes?" he asked.
"Oh yes we have a great selection of Air Jumpluffs." Air Jumpluffs were some of the nicest shoes in the world. They weren't cheap either. Everyone wanted a pair. Barry had a couple of pairs. Calem picked out a nice pair of blue and white Air Jumpluffs that had high tops. Luckily his Mom gave him more than enough money for them. Calem headed home.
He entered his house and said, "Mom, I'm home!"
"Hey swe-," Before Grace could finish she saw Calem's new outfit which he had on. She also saw Chespin. "Wow Calem looks at you, ready to take on Kalos", said his Mom in a cheesy tone. "And is that your Pokemon?", she asked. Chespin was holding on to Calems leg as if he was a parent.
"This is Chespin," Calem said proudly.
"Well hello there Chespin." Grace squatted down and stretched her hand to greet the spiky Pokemon.
"Ches?" squeaked. Chespin sniffed Grace's hand. "Ches ches pin," he squeaked again happily as Grace petted him.
"Make sure to watch over Calem right here. Make sure he doesn't get into any trouble," said Grace with a laugh.
"Mom," Calem said embarrassed.
"Oh come on, Chespins part of the family now," Grace said, defending herself, "I heard you're going on your journey with the new neighbors, it's good that you'll have company."
"Yeah I can't wait," Calem said in an excited tone.
Grace closed her eyes and said, "My little boy is becoming a man,"
"Mom," Calem said in an embarrassed tone again.
"Oh stop it, let me enjoy the moment," fired back Grace. "Here's some extra money, just in case," Grace said, handing some Pokedollars to Calem.
"Thanks, Mom," said Calem. "When are you going to head out to Cyllage City?" he asked.
"Probably in a week or two. We both might be there for the NRRL season opener," she said.
"Yeah, maybe," said Calem.
"Good luck on your journey sweetly," she said.
"Thanks, Mom."
"Bring me back something from Lumiose City", she said with a grin.
"I will," Calem said with a laugh. Delcatty purred against Calems leg as a way of saying goodbye. "I'll miss you too Delcatty," he said while petting the cat Pokemon. Calem gave his mother one last hug.
"Tell Professor Sycamore hi for me," she said.
"Will do," Calem said before stepping outside. As he stepped outside, his Mom's three Rhyhorns all brushed up against him to say goodbye. Both Donnie and Rocky watched him grow up. Calem had watched Sai grow up the past five months. "I'll miss you guys too," said Calem as he was petting each one. Chespin went back into his Pokeball as he was intimated by the three big Pokemon. "Chespin there's nothing to be worried about, they're all friendly," Calem said kindly. Chespin wasn't having it though as he chose to stay in his Pokeball. The three Rhyhorn all looked disappointed. "Ah don't worry guys he'll warm up to you," reassured Calem. "But for now I'm off on my journey," said a confident Calem. He left the safety of Vaniville town. He was ready to take everyone head-on with his Chespin.
He walked proudly through Aquacorde town. He reached the edge of Aquacorde town and he came to a stop. There it was, In front of him was a tall patch of grass. His Mom has always warned him of the tall grass since some Pokemon lurk in the grass. The few times he did go into the tall grass in Sinnoh was with Delcatty. Now he would be doing it with his Chespin. Before he could take a step a voice called his name from behind. It was none other than Serena. Shauna followed her.
"Hey Calem," Shauna said.
"Hey how's it going?" said Calem.
"Everything's great," said Serena.
"Never been better," said Shauna happily.
"Hey Calem, do you know how to catch a Pokemon?" asked Serena. Serena's question hit Calem harder than a hyper beam.
"I can't say I do," said a blushing Calem in an embarrassed tone.
"Ah that's no big deal, I'll teach you, my parents were Pokemon trainers as well when they were kids," said Serena while grabbing two Pokeballs from her bag. She walked into the tall grass. "If a Pokemon feels threatened they'll lunge from the grass so be careful," mentioned Serena. As if a Pokemon was listening to her, a small wild bird Pokemon jumped out of the grass. It had a redhead, white body, and black and whitetail. "It's a Fletchling, they're pretty common around here," said Serena. Calem held up his Pokedex. It displayed the words "Fletchling, the Tiny Robin Pokemon, Fletchling is a dual-type Normal and Flying Pokemon."
"Hm good to know," Calem mumbled to himself before focusing his attention back on Serena.
"Go Fennekin," Serena said while throwing one of the Pokeballs in her hand. "Kin," yawned the small fox Pokemon. "First you gotta weaken it". This would be the first time Calem would see Serena's Fennekin in action. "Fennekin use ember," commanded Serena. Fennekin released a flame and launched it at the Fletchling. It was a direct hit. In a desperate attempt to defend itself the Fletchling tried to use peck.
KEYWORD: Tried
Fennekin swiftly dodged it. "Now use ember once again," Once again Fennekin released a fireball that hit Fletchling. "Now you have to throw the Pokeball," explained Serena. Serena quickly threw the Pokeball. Determination filled her aqua blue eyes. The Pokeball shook once. Nothing happened. It shook twice. Same result. It shook for the third time, nothing. It was until it shook for the fourth time that the Pokeball did something. "Click," was the sound that came from the Pokeball and it seemed like a star sparkled. "Yes!" said Serena with excitement. She held up the Pokeball proudly. "And that's how you catch a Pokemon," said Serena in a confident tone.
"Woah what an amazing job," exclaimed Shauna.
"I'm impressed, of course, I've never seen anyone catch a Pokemon like that before," said Calem with a laugh. Serena couldn't help but blush. "So what's that forest over there?" Calem said while pointing to a forest in the distance.
"That's Santalune Forest," said Serena.
"It's kinda similar to Eterna forest but it has Kalos Pokemon," said Shauna.
"Beyond it is Santalune city, where the first gym is at," she explained. Calem perked up when Serena mentioned gym.
"Woah like a gym where you earn badges?" Calem asked.
"Yep, the gym leader Viola is a bug-type user," she said.
"Then what are we waiting for?" said Calem cheerfully. They all stepped foot into the forest.
"Hey wait for us!" a voice said from behind. It was none other than Tierno and Trevor.
"Hey Tierno and Trevor," Shauna greeted. Tierno was out of breath as if he had just run a marathon. He was sweating like a Tepig.
"Let's all go in together," Trevor suggested.
"Let's do it," Calem said. Serena said nothing. They all stepped foot in the forest, longing for adventure.
"Santalune forest might be a good place to test my skill, I'm going to train," said Serena. "What are you going to do, Calem?" she asked.
"I'm not sure, maybe train a little and try to catch a Pokemon," he said.
"Good luck with that, remember what I just taught you," she said "What's everyone else doing?"
"Well I'm going to find someone to battle with," Tierno said.
"I'm going to try to research some Pokemon," said Trevor gleefully.
"Ah Trevs can't you go one day without studying Pokemon?" asked Shauna in a joking tone.
"Well it's my passion, just like how you like everything about fashion," fired back Trevor. "At least I'm accomplishing something," he added.
"Keep telling yourself that," said Shauna. The tension between the two was so thick you could cut it with a knife.
"Well if anyone needs me I'll be training," Serena said, breaking the tension. The group broke up and went their separate ways for now. Calem was looking for a Pokemon.
"Hey Calem, wait for me," said Shauna from behind.
"Hey Shauna, is everything ok?" asked Calem.
"Yeah but do you mind if I stay with you, for now, this place gives me the creeps," said Shauna in a fearful tone.
"Of course," said Calem. He was grateful for the company.
"So what was it like back in Sinnoh?" Shauna asked, sparking a conversation.
"It was peaceful for the most part, I lived in Jubilife city so this country life is sort of a culture shock," said Calem who was smiling.
"Ha, I'm sure it is, I've lived in Vaniville my whole life, Serena and I have been friends since birth basically, I guess you can say we're like sisters, I really want to make some memories on this journey."
"Ah, I'm sorry. I'm talking too much about me," she said embarrassed.
"Ah, no worries, I prefer the company," said Calem with a closed-mouth smile.
Shauna smiled back before saying, "Just wait until you see Lumiose City, it's about 10 times the size of Jubilife"
"Wow, you've been to Lumiose before?" asked Calem as they continued walking.
"Yeah a few times," said Shauna cheerfully. "There's a cafe on every corner of the city," she explained, "But in the heart of the city lies the Prism Tower"
"I've read about the Prism tower," said Calem, "I've always wanted to see it."
"Well you'll get your chance soon," said Shauna with a smile. All of a sudden a rustle came from a nearby patch of grass.
"Woah, I think there's a Pokemon in that grass over there," said Calem.
"You should check it out," encouraged Shauna, "I'll help you if Chespin goes down".
"Alright then," Calem grabbed Chespins Pokeball and was slowly creeping up to the rustling grass. He stood above the rustling grass. He took a deep breath and looked down. The Pokemon's eyes were staring into his. Suddenly the Pokemon jumped out at Calem and revealed itself. "Hey it's a Farfetch'd," said Calem excitedly. "I've seen them back in Sinnoh," he said to Shauna.
"Hurry catch it before it gets away," said Shauna.
"Go Chespin!" yelled Calem, releasing his companion.
"Pin!" said the little Pokemon excitedly, knowing it was going to battle again. Calem didn't need his Pokedex to know what kind of Pokemon Farfetch'd was. He knew it was definitely a rare Pokemon and would make a fine addition to his new team.
"Chespin, try to weaken Farfetch'd with a vine whip," commanded Calem. The vines that released from Chespins back whipped Farfetch'd violently. Farfetch'd retaliated by lunging at Chespin and pecking the spiky Pokemon. "Dammit, I forgot that grass types are weak to flying type attacks," thought Calem. "Let's try tackle," said Calem. Chespin ran towards the Farfetch'd at full speed and attempted the tackle. Farfetch'd swiftly dodged. "Now use vine whip again," said a focused Calem. Once again Chespin's vines whipped Farfetch'd violently. Farfetch'd started to kick the dirt and grass underneath them trying to start a sand attack. "Chespin dodge that sand attack," Calem said. Chespin barely dodged the attack. "Vine whip again!" shouted Calem. He had already developed a passion for battling even though it was only his first wild battle. Farfetch'd was slowing down and getting weaker. Calem saw this as his opportunity. He grabbed a Pokeball off of his belt and threw it like a baseball pitcher. The ball hit Farfetch'd and sucked him in. The Pokeball shook once, then twice, then it shook for the third time. "Come on," Calem whispered to himself. When the ball shook for the fourth time it made a clicking noise and stopped. Stars sparkled from it. "Yes, I caught a Pokemon!" yelled Calem with excitement as he picked up the Pokeball.
"Congratulations," said Shauna. Before he could say anything else his Pokedex started flashing. The words on the screen read "Chespin learned Rollout."
"Alright Chespin learned a new attack!" he said. "Welcome to the team Farfetch'd."
"Hey Shauna you should try catching a Pokemon," said Calem, trying to encourage the brunette.
"Mm sure I'll try, not sure how good I'll do," said Shauna.
"Ah, you'll do fine, just do what I did," said Calem. The two trainers took some time looking around for a Pokemon.
"Rustle rustle," the sound came from a nearby patch of grass.
"Shauna there's something over there," said Calem.
"I'll check it o-out," she said nervously while grabbing Fennekins Pokeball hesitantly.
"Don't be afraid, I'll help you if things go awry," said Calem warmly.
"Thanks," Shauna said with a smile. She walked over to the patch with Calem right behind her. Suddenly a Skitty jumped out at Shauna. Shauna flinched before saying "Alright Froakie, let's catch a Pokemon," shouted Shauna while sending out her Pokemon. Froakie yawned and focused his attention on the Skitty.
"What kind of Pokemon is Skitty?"Calem asked himself as he held up his Pokedex. "Skitty, the kitten Pokemon, Skitty is a small pink cat Pokemon with four small legs, this Pokemon is a normal type," Calem read to himself. "Hey Shauna, Skitty is a normal type," he mentioned to her.
"Thanks, I think I got it down," said Shauna in a determined tone. "Froakie let's start this out with a growl." Froakie unleashed a loud growl at Skitty. A blue aura glowed around Skitty, indicating a lower of attack. The Skitty returned the favor by growling at the small frog pokemon. Similar to Skitty a blue aura shined around Froakie which lowered his attack stat. "Now use bubble," commanded Shauna. Froakie launched a series of bubbles at the kitten Pokemon. The Skitty attempted to tackle Froakie to no avail as Froakie quickly avoided the attack. "Now use tackle."
Skitty who was still stunned by Froakies bubbles hesitated to move and was struck by Froakie. Skitty was dazed from the attack and wasn't sure what to do.
"Shauna, this is your chance to catch it!" exclaimed Calem. Shauna grabbed a Pokeball from her purse and threw it as hard as she could at the Skitty. Skitty was sucked into the Pokeball the same way Farfetch'd was. The ball shook once, then twice, then for the third time. The fourth time it made the "click" sound and the stars sparkled from it.
"Yes, I caught it!" Shauna said in an excited tone.
"Great job Shauna," said Calem with a smile.
"Thanks for helping out Calem!" exclaimed Shauna.
"Yeah, congrats on your first caught Pokemon."
"Now that we've both caught Pokemon, let's get out of this creepy forest," said Shauna.
The two new friends walked together out of the forest. "Looks like we made it out," said Calem. A sign read "Ouvert Way". It was already almost night as the sun was going down. They were on a small hill and the next city was visible.
"Wow the view looks so nice," said Shauna.
"It does, and the next city is close by," responded Calem.
"Ah that's Santalune City," she said. "The next city over is Lumiose City". Before Calem could say anything Serena, Tierno, and Trevor all came tumbling out of the forest. Tierno was still out of breath and sweating like a Tepig.
"We f-finally made I-it out," Tierno barely got the words out.
"It wasn't even hot in the forest," said Serena with a confused look. Trevor couldn't help but laugh. "So Calem, did you catch a Pokemon?" asked Serena.
"Yeah, I caught a Farfetch'd," said Calem proudly.
"Great job, Farfetch'd is pretty rare".
"I caught a Skitty," said Shauna who couldn't keep her excitement to herself.
"That's another Pokemon that's uncommon to Southern Kalos," Trevor chimed in.
"Well then, shall we get a move on to Santalune City?" Serena asked.
What a chapter! The trio of trainers all get their second Pokemon and there all on to Santalune City! Thanks for reading as always!
