Sorry it's been so long since I updated. I've had my turn with Covid, and let me tell you it was no fun. Im hoping to be doing updates more regularly now that I'm well again. Once again I don't own anything. So lets go.
The smell of the hospital was unpleasant. He stood at the desk in the ER, scenarios of what might have happened running through his head. Crowley was using every ounce of his restraint to remain calm. When he got the phone call that Christine had been in an accident his first thought had been to appear at her side, heal her and then find out who or whatever did this to her and burn them for all eternity in the fires of the deepest pit of Hell he could find. Rational thought however prevailed, and he decided that he would actually find out what happened.
" Can I help you sir?" The woman behind the desk asked him.
" Yes. I received a call that my wife had been in an accident." He said as calmly as he could.
" Of course. Her name?"
" Christine." He answered. The nurse looked at him expectantly and for a moment he had no idea why, then it dawned on him. " Crowley. " He finished.
There had been quite a few discussions during their honeymoon about her taking his name. She had said that it didn't matter to her. Whether or not they had the same last name they were still just as married. Call it a point of lingering human male pride but he wanted the world to know she belonged to him. Christine said she would be fine with Macleod, but he would have no part of it. There was no way his wife would be saddled with the name that brought him so much misery. Then she suggested that he could take her last name, which he laughed at , thus starting a day long argument ending with him promising an extra week in Fiji if she would forgive him. Finally they both agreed on Crowley. He had been against it at first. Christine was the closest he would ever get to heaven and having her bear the name of a demon didn't sit right with him. That night as they lay in bed she told him, ' To me, it's not the name of a demon. It's the name of the one who owns my heart. It's the name of the man who saved my life. It's the name of the only person I will ever love. I would be proud to be Christine Crowley.'
The nurses voice brought him back to the present. " Yes sir. She's in Trauma room 2. I'll show you back." She left the desk and opened the locked doors that led back to the ER. Crowley followed her and she finally brought him to her room. " I have to warn you. Her injuries were severe, and there were a few lacerations to her face and chest."
" I don't care, let me see her." He said and started to push past her.
The nurse moved out of the way. " I just wanted you to be prepared. She's right through there," and she pointed through the closed doors.
Crowley stepped through the doors and saw her. She was awake and tears leaked from her eyes. A large bandage covered the left side of her face, another ran along her right jaw. Her shirt had been cut off as well as her bra. Her shoulders were bare and he could small cuts and scrapes that marred the skin that covered them. A white sheet covered her chest. He could see the top of another bandage near the base of her throat that ended somewhere under that sheet. Crowley went to her reaching out to touch her hand.
" Christine, what happened?" He asked.
" I don't know. I think I fell asleep maybe? I was driving home and then suddenly there was a woman in the middle of the road. I don't know where she came from, it was like she appeared out of no where. I swerved to miss her and ran off of the road." She paused as she thought back. " I lost traction and I went over an embankment, I think? I remember the car starting to roll. I don't know what happened after that, just that the next thing I knew I was in the ambulance."
Crowley listened carefully. " I'm sure you'll be fine. In fact, I can guarantee it." He said and leaned down and kissed her forehead.
" I asked the guys in the ambulance if the woman was okay but they didn't see anyone else." She told him. Christine squeezed his hand. " I was tired, we were up almost all night, maybe I did dream it. I should have known better than to try and drive, I was tired. I just thought I could make it home," She started to cry again.
Crowley stroked her hand. " Hush love, it's alright. No one blames you a bit. I know you were tired, probably just blinked a bit too long." He tried to console her.
" I know I wasn't dreaming, I couldn't have been, could I ?" Christine asked him. " I saw her so clearly. She was an older woman, with long, dark hair. She was in a dress, dark blue or maybe black."
" Don't worry about that now," Crowley stopped her. " We'll figure it all out later. Right now why don't we find out if you can go home. "
Christine placed her hand on his face and smiled at him. " I don't think they'll let you just carry me out of here."
Crowley smiled back at her, " Don't be silly. King of Hell remember?" He whispered . " I can do it with one little snap of my fingers.."
It was at that moment the doctor walked in. " Hi there, you must be Christine's husband. I'm Dr. Aimes."
" Yes I'm her husband. When can I take her home?"
" I'm afraid that won't be possible right away. Christine has a serious femur fracture. She'll need surgery to repair the fracture.
" What about the cuts on her face and chest?"
" We have a plastics department that will make the cuts on her face all but disappear. The wound to the chest however, that one is going to leave a scar."
" Thank you, Dr. For everything you're doing for her. " Crowley said, playing the role of concerned husband. Knowing that he could heal her in the blink of an eye. He turned back toward Christine and pulled a chair away from the wall to sit next to her.
" Oh, and the baby is just fine."
Crowley stopped and turned slowly back to face the doctor. " I'm sorry. What?" he asked, not believing what he had heard.
" The baby, it's okay."
Crowley stood there with a stunned look on his face. " What baby? There's no baby."
" Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know, I thought," He said glancing down to meet Christine's eyes.
" It's okay. you can tell him."
" When Christine came in she was very confused. We ran several tests, including a pregnancy test. After it came back positive we did an ultrasound to make sure everything was okay. Looks like she's a little over 14 weeks along." He said glancing at her.
Crowley turned back to Christine. She looked so small and broken lying there in that bed. " Pregnant." he stated.
Chris could see the wheels turning in his mind. She smiled at him. Crowley had told her several times that demons couldn't father children.
" I think I'll leave you two alone. Someone will be back in to check you in just a bit, if you need anything just hit the call light for the nurse."
Crowley continued to stare at Christine. Pregnant. It wasn't possible. At least not from him. His heart shattered at that thought and a white hot consuming anger raged through him. His eyes began to glow and the room began to heat, massive wings tore from his back, " You take the very life from me, the very beat from the heart in this borrowed chest."
" What's wrong?" Chris asked, struggling to sit up, she knew he would be surprised but not this. Never this. He was enraged. " Crowley,"
" Quiet!" He yelled at her and took her ability to speak. " I don't care to hear anything you have to say!"
Chris was shaking her head as much as she could. She hadn't been with anyone but him, not since the day she met him How could he think that of her.
" I think that because what other explanation is there? " He stood over her in all his demonic glory, his voice was quiet and his face was just a mask of malice and hate. " Tell me, was it all of those long nights when you said you were working? Such a hardship. I guess now I know why you didn't want to quit."
Christine reached out to grab his arm, pain shot through her. Crowley let her speak once again. " No, No I have never been unfaithful to you. Ever. I never would."
" Then explain yourself." He whispered lowly.
" There's no one else, not since the day I met you. I don't know how it happened, but it did. There's a baby here," she laid a hand on her lower abdomen, " maybe there shouldn't be, but there is. We made this. You and I."
Crowley shook his head and pulled his arm away from her, " No, it's not possible. Take your things from my home, and your presence from my life." He snapped his fingers and she was healed, Then he vanished, leaving his wedding ring on the floor where he once stood.
Chris fell back on the bed. Tears fell down the sides of her face. How could he? How could he ever think she would want someone else. She was weeping freely when she heard his voice once again.
"So it's mine then?" He asked. Crowley's voice had softened. He regretted everything the second he disappeared from the room. Crowley picked up his ring and slid it back on his finger. "I'm sorry love, so sorry. Those words were never something I ever thought I would hear." He knelt beside the bed.
Christine touched his face as he reached out to dry her tears. Then she slapped him, hard, across the face. " If you ever pull something like that again I'll exorcise you myself."
Crowley rubbed his face where she had struck him, " Yes ma'am." He cautiously reached out an touched her stomach. "How did this happen?"
"You once said you wanted to see my belly swollen with your baby. Maybe someone upstairs was listening."
Crowley smiled softly, " I'm quite sure no one up there has listened to me for an extremely long time. Still, we need to find out how this happened."
Christine started to tell him that it happens all the time but he stopped her, " I know what you're going to say, however you need to under stand that this; a demon producing a child is not common. It never happens. I can't even recall the last time anything like this was even heard of. I'll need to consult my books, and a few of Hell's older residents."
" You could call Sam and Dean, maybe they," she started.
" No." He cut her off mid sentence, " I'll not have those two finding out about this. Do you realize what they might do if they think the child is a threat? Regardless of your friendship with them, they're hunters first and foremost. They won't hesitate to do what needs to be done, and while I feel the world is much more interesting with them in it, I would end them if they tried to harm our child. So let's just keep this between us for now."
