The roars, howls and other unearthly sounds reached the squad as they prepped weapons and took aim. Harry felt the air tensing, the feral feeling increasing before the door bent towards them. The mass that hit it was enough to cause a dent the big, the huffing and snarling only increased as the sounds of torn metal came to them. Guns turned on the door, safeties off. The door wrenched open, a mutated polar bear howled in outrage as its bulk couldn't fit through the tiny doorway. Gunfire and energy blasts tore into the monster, blood painting the walls as it collapsed into a gory mess.
More of the abominations started to tear at the carcass to get to the squad inside, black tentacles becoming covered in talons that ripped chunks out of the corpse. More weapons fire ripped through the doorway, sending aberration of horror to the ground in various positions of death. Harry gritted his teeth as he started sending flame spells into the horde of death, igniting many of the monsters as they burnt and crumbled to dust.
"Switching to energy, out of physical ammo." One of the soldiers grunted over the sounds of the horde of horrors, "how much longer until the data is downloaded?!"
"It's at seventy-five percent!" Another shouted before there was an explosion, shaking the building.
Harry gritted his teeth as the warmth from the inside started to vanish, meaning that the monsters must have torn out the power generator. He hit himself with a warming charm as the soldiers had environmental suits with armor, allowing them to stay warm without magic. Another one of the creatures broke through the ceiling, debris raining down out of the hole as it was shot into pieces by the squad. Then the horrors backed off, slinking back into the darkness as the computer beeped.
"Download complete!" One of the soldiers said, "We need to clear out, NOW!"
Harry held up his hand, magic thrumming as something in his psyche told him to stay still. The squad of soldiers froze before they felt it too. The ground was shaking before it stopped, causing everything to go silent. Harry looked over at the squad leader and slowly motioned him to start moving forward. The leader nodded, slowly moving across the room as the squad followed.
Rias and Akeno froze as the ground shook then stilled, taking them off guard. The sensors aboard Diablo Lightning were silent before a seismic readout appeared, showing the increase of underground activity near the Jaeger. That was until it spiked, the ground erupting like a volcano had erupted out of the earth. Smoke covered whatever caused the eruption, as Rias tried to see through the clouds of debris. Warning sensors went off but a long, bony limb swung out of the cloud and sent Diablo flying into a building.
Both teenagers forced Diablo out of the rubble to stop what had hit them, causing both to pale. The massive thing was entirely black with thin red lines that seemed to be carved into its ash black skin. Its elongated limbs ended in massive hooked claws with two smaller fingers on either side of the massive middle finger. Its skin wrapped tightly around its chest, giving it an angled boxy shape. The hardest part to comprehend was that this thing had no head. Instead, it was a massive tentacle that sawed around like it was in some underwater current.
The silence stretched on, the thing making no sound as it seemed to almost study Diablo Lightning before its tentacle whipped forward at lightning speed. Rias and Akeno dived out of the way as the massive tentacle crushed the building in half, causing it to collapse. The arm lifted, changing into a cannon as the PoD energy surged out of the cannon. The thing slashed at the jaeger in retaliation at being hit by the destructive energies, the hook claws nearly stabbing into the Jaeger.
Diablo rolled out of the way of another downward strike before getting back to its feet, stumbling slightly as the ground shook again. This time, it was from the footfalls of Striker Eureka as it barreled into the massive horror at full speed. The thing flailed around, confused at the sudden appearance of another metal being before twin plasma edge blades stabbed into its shoulders and nearly tore out both of its arms. It retreated into the ground, shaking everything as it fled as its arms barely hung onto its body. Striker steadied Diablo before it radioed over to it.
"Mr. Potter is back, seemed whatever that was, it was what called the things away. It's on the run now but Mr. Potter has called a full retreat. No use in staying here if its going to kill us all." Herc said.
As the convoy retreated, across the ice and horror filled snow lay the new city of the Elder Things. Or, at least it was thought to have been. It was not the original city of the things but the home of the Insane Ones, the Elder Things that had been driven into madness after spending too long in the accursed frozen landscape of the planet. The original city of the Elder things was built over by the Insane Ones, creating a city that was more insidious to behold and more mind breaking to view.
Within its walls, human or humanoid slaves mined, carved or built up the city as those that worshipped the Insane ones sang cords and prayers to their idols. Such blasphemies rang out in the shrines of the cults as the females were used to carry the offspring of the Insane aliens. Nothing more then slaves, the human race had fallen into the hands of the former rulers of the planet.
Within one of the spiraling towers that twisted into the blizzard driven sky, an Insane one activated one of the instruments on a device. The black armored body, covered in sharp spikes, twisted as pink tentacles slid out from between the five long armored leg appendages. The top opened up to show the fleshy pink five 'petaled' head of the Insane one, tasting the air as it viewed the convoy as it escaped the former human research stronghold.
A pink tentacle reached up and turned a knob, causing another screen to activate and show the massive eyes of another alien. Lipless mouth quivering and slathering, the bear sized bulk of the alien glistening like wet leather. Snake like tentacles writhing as the clumsy body heaved and pulsated. The two seemed to converse in silence before the screen shut off, the message conveyed perfectly from one species to another.
Such is how the Insane ones and the Martians of Mars spoke, through the mind.
