ALEXA'S POV
Questions with no answers drifted through her head as she stared at the Master's before her. She had only expected Master Jinn and her Master Mundi to be there, yet there they all were just as she remembered them. Well, with the exception of Mace Windu who was missing his right hand.
As she looked upon the form of the powerful Jedi Master, Alexa knew that she had indeed heard his voice the night before the battle. He had a blank expression on his face and sat with his back perfectly straight. Even in death he's still got a stick up his ass Alexa thought to herself, causing her lips to twitch upwards in a smile.
Beside him was her Master Mundi and Master Jinn, followed by Masters Saesee Tiin and Kit Fisto. Master Trebor was also there, the Vurk had been killed almost a decade ago in the first battle of Geonosis. The last Jedi among them, to her surprise, was her old friend Aayla Secura. Alexa loved Secura like a sister, but there was no denying that the blue Twi'lek skill was in combat and not... well this. Despite the happiness that coursed through Alexa after seeing her old friends and colleagues, her heart strings pulled almost painfully. Her since passed lover, Obi-Wan Kenobi wasn't among them and the gears were beginning to turn in her head as to why.
Alexa was so caught up in her thoughts that she hadn't realized the drums had stopped until all seven of her old colleagues had opened their eyes and stood.
"It is done," Mace Windu stated, the sound of his voice making Alexa look at the Master.
Alexa nodded and bowed respectfully before the Masters, "Thank you, my old friends. Without you, this would not be possible,"
Kit Fisto grinned in response and said something the woman never could have predicted. "Good luck, Master Lafitte,"
At the title, shock overtook her features. She turned to Master Windu in confirmation as he was the most highly respected Jedi Master of the seven before her. The grim Masters lips twitched in a rare smile, though it was small and brief. "You have long since earned it,"
Alexa smiled and bowed respectfully before her old friends, tears in her eyes. This wasn't how she thought it would happen, it was supposed to be after the war, but she was grateful nonetheless. While she was happy, there was a sadness too. Sad that it happened this way, that she couldn't go to Dex's diner with her loved ones to celebrate. But most of all she was sad because she was one of the last Jedi Masters alive.
Alexa turned to look at Fili, who remained a mixed of bug eyed and confused as if he were on the same drug, she and her Master had fallen into on the Planet Ryloth. A smile grew on her face as the memory flashed through her mind, before turning her attention back to the Jedi Masters.
"Is there something else you wish to ask us Master Lafitte?" Master Saesee Tiin asked,
Alexa internally winched as her heart rate increased slightly, he must have sensed her inner turmoil. "Yes, Master Tiin, there is." After an approving nod from Master Windu, she continued. "Where is Master Kenobi? I am confident that he has the power to be here, so why isn't he?"
There was a heavy silence in the room, which only caused her heart to beat faster. Is there something wrong? "You don't know," The words spoken by her friend Aayla rang in her head, the pity in her voice made Alexa's heart hammer. "Know what?"
It was Mace Windu who answered, "It was decided that it was in her best interests not to tell her," No, no, no.
"What aren't you telling me?" The words barely made it out, her hands were shaking, why wouldn't they just answer her? She turned to her old Master, the one she could share everything and anything with, she needed to know. "Master?"
She watched with bated breath as he sighed and his eyes grew remorseful. This can't be happening. "Master Kenobi survived Order Sixty-six. He's alive,"
Her heart stopped. She could scarcely believe it, after all these years. "What?" She breathed; Obi-Wan is alive?
"He lives in exile on the outskirts of Tatooine. He has been tasked with protecting the young Skywalker from the Empire, watching afar as his aunt and uncle raise him," Qui-Gon added,
It was all too much. Obi-Wan, her Ben was alive. He had somehow survived Order Sixty-six despite being surrounded by the Clone Troopers. How? How did he survive such an event? But more importantly why hadn't her Master, the one she thought of as a father told her of his survival? Did he even know she was alive? Or had they told him similar lies wrapped in riddles to make him believe that she had perished during Order Sixty-six?
By the time she came out of her head and looked up, all bar one force ghost remained. She stared at her late Master with unshed tears in her eyes and something close to rage boiling within her, the mission was far from her mind.
"Why didn't you tell me?" She hated how weak her voice sounded, the way it cracked and how tears began flowing down her cheeks.
"It was discussed that knowledge of his survival would only distract you from your mission,"
"Is that all that matters to you?" She paused for a moment, before the anger building within her burst. "For FIVE YEARS I've been stuck here because of that mission and you decided at no point during that time to tell me what had happened to him? No, you'd rather watch as I grieved over the man I loved, the man who I was engaged to marry!? I DESERVED TO KNOW!" The tears were running freely now, screw how weak and emotional she sounded, she couldn't believe he had kept this from her.
"Calm down my old padawan! there is no need for such rage," he stated, making Alexa cast her eyes from him. Sighing deeply, Ki-Adi Mundi took a deep breath himself before continuing. "I am sorry Lexi that it turned out this way. I did not want this for you, but after the Order, things changed." he told her, his voice now a gentle murmur.
Alexa breathed deeply, her anger dissipating with every breath. "He thinks I'm dead, doesn't he?" she whispered, defeated.
"Yes," he sighed, "But there is no need to dwell on the past and what could have been. You have made a life for you and your son. You have done the Jedi Order proud,"
Alexa wiped her cheeks harshly with her sleeve, ridding her face of her tears. "I wish he could see him. He's grown so much these past years; he looks just like him." She murmured, a bittersweet smile appearing at the thought.
THIRD POV
A silence settled between the three, with a heartbroken Alexa dreaming of what could've been, Ki-Adi Mundi wishing that his old padawan didn't have to go through this and Fili looking between the pair wondering what the fuck is going on and wondering if he hallucinating that Alexa had just admitted that she was engaged to a fellow Jedi and the young boy in Rivendell was their son?! All of this of course being against the Jedi Code. Honestly, Fili didn't know what was real anymore, it's not like anyone is going to believe that he saw the blue glowing ghosts of dead Jedi Masters are they?!
Fili watched silently as Alexa's Master walked towards her. A quiet exhale left the Master as he peered upon his old student. Reaching inside his tunic, he pulled out a folded piece of parchment about an inch thick with red ribbon holding it together.
Alexa had sensed his approach, but did not look up. That was until she felt a weight encompass her shoulder. A gasp left her and tears welled in her eyes as looked up and took in the sight of her mentor's hand on her shoulder. He could touch her.
Despite the tears in her eyes, a bright smile overtook her features and a choked laugh left her. Alexa's hand quivered as it came to rest on top of his. Upon moments of making contact, she embraced him.
Ki-Adi Mundi gently wrapped his arms around her shoulders, mindful of her injured one. Several seconds pass before the pair parted and Ki-Adi Mundi held the pile of folded parchment before her.
Taking it from her Master, Alexa's eyes widened at the sight of the parchment. Her eyes snapped to his, in silent question; words failing her. At his nod, she grasped the parchment to her chest and tears fell freely down her cheeks, she couldn't believe it.
"Thank you," she whispered, her voice a mere murmur as she secured the bound parchment carefully inside her tunic.
But Mundi wasn't done yet. "He holds hope that you are alive and will one day return to him. Since there was no body, he thought you had disappeared and gotten to safety with your child. Master Yoda told him that you were gone, yet he still waits and may wait for you till he dies." Mundi told her; his tone soft.
Alexa remained silent as emotions long buried bubbled up. The bound parchment lay heavy over her heart. "Why are you telling me this?" She croaked; emotion clear in her voice.
Mundi looked down at her, "Because you deserve to know,". His fingers gently lifted her chin up until their eyes met. "Go now my child," he murmured, a small smile resting on his face.
Alexa nodded and wiped her tear-stricken face again with her bloody sleeve. Shifting her sights back to the rock blocking the exit, she began moving it. Fili, still confused by the whole event could only watch as Alexa lifted the rock from its place, revealing the passageway.
"Time to go Fili," Alexa said, not looking back at the Dwarf as she stepped outside of the hidden room. Fili followed behind, stepping into the passage moments after Alexa.
Before they could leave, Mundi spoke, "Whatever happens, know that I am very proud of you Lexi," Alexa turned back to smile at her Master, only for it to drop as she gazed into the empty room.
"Alexa?"
Alexa's eyes snapped to meet Fili's a sad smile on her face. "Come on, let's get out of here," she said, her fingers unclipping her lightsaber as she led them down the passage.
