Walking out into the dark streets, a teenager with mahogany hair that went down her back looked around at her neighbours and father's friends around her.
The girl smiled at everyone who greeted her, waving at them as she walked by them, her knee length black dress swishing as she went and her blue baby doll shoes clicked on the pavement.
A woman dressed in black with green skin and a few warts on her nose smiled at the girl as she walked b her.
"Hello Daisuke. Nice day isn't it?" the witch asked.
Daisuke turned to her and flashed her fangs as she smiled kindly at the woman.
"Yeah, it is. How are you this morning, Hellewise?" she asked.
"Ah, wonderful. My spider and cobweb stew is being brewed nicely for supper. How about you?" Hellewise asked.
"I'm going out for blood." Daisuke said.
"Out? As in…out of the Holiday Worlds?" Hellewise asked in surprise.
"Yeah, Dad said I should. There are humans out there and I can feed off of them to get fresh blood. It might also stop me from getting sick all the time." Daisuke explained.
Hellewise cooed at Jack Skellington's daughter, brushing her bangs out of her big chocolate eyes that held a tint of crimson in them.
The girl was a Halfling, only being part vampire while the rest is human and she had been fed the blood of the other creatures in their world, but it wasn't healthy enough for her.
Some other vampires even offered her their own blood to dine on, but it made her sick as well which made Jack worried as he looked over his daughter.
"Be safe." Hellewise said.
Nodding, Daisuke set off to the Human World, excitement filling her as she ran off into the forest and found the portal and was pulled through it.
When she was out of her home world, she looked around at the forest she was in and turned to the tree that had the Jack O' Lantern on it, then looked at the other trees that were portals to the holidays.
Turning to the forest, Daisuke took in a deep breath as she walked off down the path, looking around curiously as she bit her thumb, making it bleed and then started marking the trees as she went so that she wouldn't get lost.
The sounds of traffic became clearer as she walked on, seeing the lights and soon walked into the city, smiling at the sight of the lights that lit up the night and walked into the city to see all of the people out.
Her eyes were filled with wonder as she walked down the street, amazed that she blended in with the people who didn't even stare at her or stop her to talk like they would in her world.
It was nice to be left alone and to just enjoy some time to herself without her father's friends checking on her.
While walking, she didn't notice someone walking out of one of the buildings, busy placing his wallet back into his duffle bag when Daisuke bumped into him and almost fell, but he grabbed her by the waist to keep her upright.
"I am so sorry about that." She said.
"No, it was my fault. I wasn't paying attention." He said.
Helping her up properly, they both looked at each other and froze when chocolate eyes met steel colored eyes, both seeing they had tanned skin while she had mahogany that appeared to have a tint of purple in it while his was dark blue.
"Um, hi." She breathed softly.
"Hi." He whispered.
His scent was overwhelming her; it was so sweet and yet spicy at the same time, almost like cinnamon and she loved it.
Realizing he was holding the girl, the boy blushed and backed up from her once he was sure she was standing properly and wouldn't fall.
"Sorry about that. My name's Henry." He greeted holding his hand out to her.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Daisuke." She smiled taking his hand.
"So, are you new here? I haven't seen you before." Henry stated as he let go of her hand.
"Yeah, I live pretty far away. I'm mostly here to just visit and check out the city. It's pretty cool here." She said looking at the bright lights.
Henry smiled at her seeing how innocent she looked as her large brown eyes took in everything around in, drinking it in.
"I can show you around if you like." He offered.
She looked surprised at this, but smiled and nodded.
"Yeah, that sounds great. Thanks." She said.
He held out his arm for her and she giggled as she linked it with her own, the boy leading her off into the city.
They walked down the street, Henry explaining things that were so simple, yet were a amazement for Daisuke as she looked at the cars, street lights and people in awe.
It was just so adorable to see her eyes spark as she looked around and she seemed to bounce in her step in glee.
After a while, Daisuke seemed to have grown distracted as Henry spoke, not noticing as her eyes glazed over while her fangs were pushing through.
Looking over, her eyes settled on his exposed throat and she had to hold herself back from tasting him.
Instead, her eyes found a woman walking down an alley with a garbage bag and the Halfling decided she had found her first meal.
Daisuke quickly slipped her arm out of Henry's grasp just as a crowd came as they crossed the street, the bluenette looking worried when he lost sight of the girl hoping he hadn't lost her.
"Daisuke, where are you?" he called.
The Halfling slipped into the alley where the woman was looking young with short brown hair and eyes the color of cherry.
Curious, the pink clad woman looked over at Daisuke.
"Are you all right?" she asked.
"I'm fine. Just a bit…hungry." Daisuke licked her lips.
Zooming over to her, Daisuke quickly compelled the woman into a numbed state here she didn't know what was going on as she was bitten.
Daisuke held the woman closely making sure she didn't drop her and slowly sucked the blood, almost moaning at how warm and sweet it tasted.
This was what she was craving, real human blood that was pure.
Licking the fang marks, they sealed and then Daisuke took off into the night as the woman shook her head to clear them of the fog, looking around curiously.
Henry was looking around frantically for the missing girl, eyes roving around until they finally located her walking around a couple.
"Daisuke, there you are." He called running over to her.
"Hey." She chirped.
He couldn't help but notice that she looked healthier than she had been before and wondered if she had been off taking medicine or something, but shook the thought out of his head.
It wasn't his business since he had just met the girl.
"You shouldn't run off like that. Not everyone is nice. They could have hurt you." he scolded lightly, but eased up when he saw the pout she had.
"Sorry, I just got lost in the crowd and was pushed back." She apologized.
"It's fine. Anyway, maybe you should get inside. The weirdoes come out at night." Henry advised as he took her hand and they both started walking again.
(A week later…)
Daisuke had been able to compel the manager of a hotel to give her a room for free and she had been staying there for the time being as she explored the city and spent time with Henry.
She had really come to care for him and enjoyed spending as much time as she could with him while she also hunted for her food.
Henry noticed that she seemed to disappear a lot so he asked her why and she answered that she had a weak immune system and had to get some blood for it.
He thought she meant a blood transfusion and also told her about a blood bank where she could get the blood from the nurses who would be happy to help her, his mother being one of them.
His family were all very nice and she loved spending time with them, especially the darling little Suzie who as excited for Halloween and wanted to go as a fairy princess.
Daisuke was now walking down the street to meet up with Henry in the park, enjoying the crisp autumn air as she went and the different colored leaves in the trees.
She heard yelling from up ahead, then caught the scent of her friend which made her hurry over to see Henry was trying to stop a fight between one of his friends Ryo and a larger boy while Henry's other friends Takato, Rika, Jeri, Kenta, Alice and Kazu were watching in worry as the taller male's friends cheered him on.
"What's going on?" Daisuke asked as she walked over.
"This guy was hitting on Jeri, Rika and I and wouldn't leave us alone, so Ryo stepped up to help. Now Henry's trying to break up the fight." Alice said.
Alice was the only human Daisuke had met who wore similar clothing as her which made the girls get along when talking about their clothing, but found they were total opposites since Alice was more calm and Daisuke loved to be crazy and fun, but they were still great friends in the end.
The male then went to punch Ryo, but missed and wound up hitting Henry in the nose making everyone gasp.
"Henry!" Daisuke and Takato cried.
Ryo then pushed the other guy away as he then turned to the Chinese boy in worry as he reveal his nose that had blood gushing down his chin.
Jeri gasped in fear as everyone quickly gathered around him while Daisuke stood there staring at the blood, the scent calling her to lap it up.
Henry glanced over to her when he didn't see her comforting him and saw that she was staring in horror at him making him think that she was afraid of the sight of the blood.
That opinion soon changed when he saw that her eyes changed while a look of lust filled them.
Realizing what she was feeling, Daisuke covered her nose to bloke out the scent and then took off running with tears flowing down her cheeks.
"Hey, where did Daisuke run off to?" Kenta asked when he saw the girl was gone.
"She was just there a second ago." Jeri frowned.
"Maybe the blood made her feel sick." Takato suggested.
"That's weird. She doesn't seem like the type to get sick at that kind of stuff." Ryo said.
Henry frowned when he thought of how she always seemed to disappear, the interest in blood, her amazement of ordinary things and acted as if she had never seen them before and the way he had seen her eyes change.
Was it possible that she wasn't a human at all?
Rounding into an alley, Daisuke sobbed as she slid down the wall and dropped to her butt, tears streaming down her face in horror of what had nearly happened back there.
She had almost lost control of her thirst and attack Henry; HENRY!
The guy who was nothing but nice to her the second she met him, who was nice to everyone, her first friend who was interested in her for who she was and she had almost attacked him.
Sobbing into her hands, she realized that she couldn't risk that ever happening again.
It would kill her if Henry was hurt by her hand, so perhaps it was time for her to return to the Halloween World where she belonged.
Deciding on this, she pushed herself up and ran off to the blood bank to stalk up on the blood so that she wouldn't have to worry about being sick for a long while.
(The next day…)
Henry walked into the apartment looking frustrated since he wasn't able to find Daisuke anywhere and he had his friends helping them out as well.
"Welcome home, son." Janyu greeted his son from the couch as he read the paper.
"Hey Dad. Did Daisuke happen to call or stop by?" Henry asked setting his coat down.
"Hmm? Aw, yes, she left a note for you earlier today. It's in your room." Janyu said.
Nodding at this, Henry quickly ran into his room to find the note on his desk and saw the slightly messy script that could only be Daisuke's.
He tore the letter open and pulled the letter out, looking it over to see what it said.
"Dear Henry,
That was a clichéd way to start this off, but I'm not sure how to start, so I'll just be blunt.
I'm going back to my home town.
I miss my family and want to be back with them.
Not only that, but I'm keeping a secret from you that I really don't want and since I can't tell it to you without worrying that you'll see me as a freak, I have to leave.
Thanks for everything and for helping me find friends, it means a lot to me, but I'm afraid that I won't see you again.
Goodbye, love Daisuke."
Reading the letter over again, Henry crumpled it up and threw it to the ground before he ran out of the house, almost bumping into his older brother and sister as he grabbed his jacket.
"Whoa, what's the rush?" his brother asked as Henry ran out.
"He must be meeting up with Daisuke." Jaarin shrugged as she walked into the room.
Henry ran out onto the street, gray eyes taking in the people around him, looking for a tanned skin girl with mahogany hair dressed in black.
He couldn't believe that she would just leave without talking to him first.
Yes, he understood that she had a good reason and as only trying to protect him, but he didn't care!
He wanted her in his life, he cared about her, he loved her for goodness sake and didn't want her to leave him forever.
As he ran, he wound up near the forest to catch his breath, unsure of where to look next.
Humming was then heard making him look up curiously to see a figure walking through the forest, weaving between the trees.
Looking closely, he found that it was Daisuke who was humming an unfamiliar tune as she walked with her hair down as the wind blew it gently around her.
Narrowing his eyes on the bag she was carrying, Henry saw that it was filled with blood bags from the blood bank.
He then decided to follow her, trying not to step on any branches or leaves that would crunch too loudly as he followed, watching her as she walked far into the forest.
After nearly an hour of walking, he saw her stop at a row of trees that had different images on them as Henry hid from her.
One tree had a colorful Easter egg on it while another had a red heart with lace, then there was a Christmas tree with a bright star on top, a frightening looking Jack O' Lantern and then the last had a four leaf clover on it.
They were the symbols for Easter, Valentine's Day, Christmas, Halloween and Saint Patrick's Day.
What Henry didn't understand was why anyone would put those images on trees, but kept silent as he watched Daisuke touch the tree with the Halloween symbol, pulling a latch on it and she pulled the Jack O' Lantern out as if it were a door.
Golden light flooded from the tree as Daisuke was pulled inside making Henry gasp as the door closed behind her.
"What the heck was that?" he asked as he stepped out from his hiding place.
Walking over to the tree, he hesitantly pulled at the latch opening the door and was pulled inside, darkness surrounding him as he saw a strange light ahead.
He then found himself in a dark land that had different types of houses that looked old while people dressed as vampires, witches, skeletons and other types of monsters walked about laughing and talking.
Suddenly, music was heard making Henry look around as the monsters started singing and dancing, the tune sounding exactly like the one that Daisuke had been humming before.
They popped up around him as they sang, not even seeming to notice him as they did so to celebrate the upcoming Halloween.
Weaving around the crowds, Henry found Daisuke talking to a man that looked a bit like a skeleton, the man smiling down at the girl as he kissed her head and brushed her hair back.
"Daisuke!" Henry called as he ran over.
Gasping softly, she turned to see the Chinese teenager running over to her making Jack look over curiously as the boy came over.
"Henry, what are you doing here?" Daisuke asked.
"Why did you just leave like that? Didn't you think that this would hurt me or the others for you just leaving us without a word?" Henry scolded.
"I told you in the note." She said.
"That's not good enough." He said.
"Daisuke, what's going on?" Jack asked.
"This is a friend I made, Daddy." The Halfling confessed.
"Daddy?" Henry asked as he looked the man over wondering if Daisuke got her looks from her mother.
"Oh, how nice. We've never had a human here before. Welcome, young man. Enjoy the festivities. Now, if anyone gives you trouble, please tell me." Jack smiled at him.
"Um, thank you sir." Henry nodded at him as the skeleton walked off to talk to one of his own friends.
When he was gone, Henry looked back over to Daisuke who was looking down with a tint of red to her cheeks.
"So…you're not afraid of this…or me?" she whispered.
"Of course not. I don't care if you're a vampire and whatever else you are. What matters is who you are, not what you are." He smiled gently at her as he cupped her cheek making her blush darker.
"Oh, really?" she asked.
"I mean it. Don't disappear forever. Everyone back home loves you too much for you to be gone forever. Please come back to visit." He said.
She hummed in thought at this and he grinned knowing she was trying to tease him by the playful look in her eyes.
Chuckling at this, Henry kissed her forehead making her giggle.
"All right, I'll come back to see everyone whenever I can. Maybe someone more than the others." Daisuke bit her bottom lip as she smiled at him.
"I can live with that. So, you think you can show me how you monsters party?" Henry asked.
The music changed as the teenaged monsters came up to sing, instead of it being 'This is Halloween' that the adults sang, the teenagers were singing 'Calling All the Monsters'.
"Gladly." Daisuke giggled as she pulled Henry along with her.
Jack watched as his daughter smiled and laughed more freely than she had in years and he had to smile at this as well.
The end.
