A warm breeze blows into the nursery, and grains of sand tumble in. Sandkit looked out, blinking when sand was blown into her eyes.
"Ack!" she says, blinking repeatedly. "I hate sand!" She shakes the sand out of her pelt, and pads back to her mother, Bluesky
"Quite ironic, don't you think Sandkit?" Her mother asks her. Sandkit looked at her mother's blue-grey pelt, then Sandkit looked at hers. She wondered why she was a dusty-orange color, she had no blue-gey on her! It was quite strange, but she didn't question it. If she didn't know now, she was sure she would later.
"I guess so." Sandkit responded, looking back up. "When do you think I'll be able to play with Leafkit and Whisperkit?" Sandkit looked at the nest behind Bluesky, laying there was Leafkit, Whisperkit, and the two brothers' mother, Stormyfur. They all shared the same grey pelt, but Lealkit had stripes, also.
"When they wake up, dear." Said Stormyfur, lifting her head. "They're quite tired, you know." Sandkit looked down, sad. She wanted to play now! She was just about to curly up next to her mother when Leafkit lifted his head.
"Don't worry, Sandkit! I'm awake now. What do you want to play?" Leafkit smiled at her. "Do you want to explore the camp? We won't get into trouble, after all. My dad's the deputy of Islandclan!"
"I know your dad's deputy, Leafkit! But we should wait for Whisperkit to wake up! We don't want to leave him behind, afterall!" Sandkit responded. Just for a moment, Leafkit frowned. That's odd, Sandkit thought. Usually Leafkit wants Whisperkit to play with us. But, after the frown vanished, and his usual smile returned, Sandkit shook those thoughts away.
"Ok," Responds Leafkit, bringing Sandkit back to reality. He layed back down and put his tail over his nose. "Wake me when Whisperkit does." Knowing not to bother him anymore, Sandkit layed down too. Slowly descending into darkness, Sandkit thought of all the great adventures she would have with Whisperkit and Leafkit later…
Sandkit felt something nudging her. She was having the best dream about walking along the edge of the ocean, Leafkit and Whisperkit walking next to her. In said dream, she… Wait.. Why couldn't she remember? She just had the dream! Hissing softly, she raised her head. Blinking open her eyes, she saw the soft, quiet gaze of Whisperkit. True to his name, he was very soft spoken, the complete opposite of his brother. Leafkit lived by the phrase: "Fight now, feel pain later." The only reason why he wasn't confined to the nursery was because of the help from his father, and from Sandkit and Whisperkit.
"Umm, hello?" Said Whisperkit, Snapping Sandkit out of her thoughts. "Did I say the wrong thing?" Suddenly, Sandkit's pelt flushed with embarrassment. Starclan that was awkward.
"No no no, I'm sorry! I was just lost in my own thoughts…" Sandkit told him, slowly rising to her paws. "When did you wake?" By the looks of the tiny pieces of moss on Whisperkit's fur, Sandkit guessed recently. Sandkit looked at camp, the sunlight had changed from a yellow glow, to an orange-yellow. Mouse dung! Sandkit thought, We won't be allowed out now!.
"Just a second ago." Whisperkit responded. "I was just having the best dream, too. I was walking with you and Leafkit, right along the ocean and-"
"Me too!" Sandkit practically shouted. She heard some hisses of annoyances from the two queens in the nursery. "Sorry! Anyway, I had the same dream! Do you remember what was going on?"
"Yeah, we…. Um… we, ugh.," Whisperkit stutterd, clearly struggling to remember, "No.. I don't…" Whisperkit's tail dropped, and he hunched over slightly. Sandkit felt bad for him, he always tried too hard to be the best cat he could! And he did succeed some times, but only sometimes. Sandkit had made it her mission to try to make him realise that she cared for him no matter what he did.
"Don't worry, Whisperkit!" told him, "I forget too. Maybe Leafkit remembers? If he had the same dream, of course." They turned to look at Leafkit, who was breathing steadily, tail still draped over his nose. I'll go wake him. Sandkit thought, now walking over to him. He did say to wake him when Whisperkit was awake! Nudging at Leafkit with her nose, she hoped he would have some answers.
"Oh, hello Sandkit. I was just dreaming about you." he said, opening one eye. "Whisperkit was there too, I guess."
That's so sweet! Sandkit thought, is he excited about our adventures as much as I am? Oh, right! Questening time!
"Me and Whisperkit had the same dream, and you were there too. Did you have the same dream as us?" Asked Sandkit. Whisperkit walked up next to Sandkit, nodding so Leafkit knew Sandkit wasn't joking.
"I did." Leafkit told them. "I overheard you guys earlier, and no, I don't remember why we were walking." Sandkit's tail fell, she knew there was a reason to learn why they were walking together… Then she remembered something. A long time ago, she had the best dream. She was flying in the sky, soaring above the ocean, but then she woke up. She was so mad! But then Bluesky told her that if she recounted each detail in a dream, she would have the same dream when she slept later that night.
"Guys, wait! I just remembered something…" Sandkit told her friends what she remembered, and they all agreed it was the best idea.
"We should get out of the nursery. We don't want to wake up Bluesky and Stormyfur. We should be careful, though, we might not be allowed out yet." responded Leafkit, being the voice of reason. Sandkit nodded first, and Leafkit smiled. Whisperkit nodded a bit reluctantly, and they walked out into the camp clearing.
