Well, here it is everyone, the edited version of chapter one. Hopefully, it's better and more smooth. I did say I'd be taking the time to write them out to make sure it's better. The original chapter one was a copy and paste style instead of actual editing. As you'll probably be able to tell, some things are different with the newer version. Some parts are missing like the conversation with her, Stefan, and Elena. Simply put, I'm just gonna say this once, they will not be her friends in the future chapters. If you want to know more, just simply continue reading when I post them. Happy reading.

The Fated Pair

The weather was bright and cheerful for spring. Birds chirped as they gathered up twigs and sticks for their nesting as they passed through a neighborhood called Little Whinging, Surrey in London. Houses were built next to each other in a way so familiar that even the houses looked the same. Minus the numbering that is. Now, what's different?

Well, the difference is the house of number 9. They held a family of three that you could probably consider a normal sort; the thing is though, they feared more than anything was a young woman, their niece slash cousin named Vanessa Joseline Potter. She was the most beautiful woman anyone could ever meet. She had long ebony hair with the brightest emerald eyes. She had wavy bangs that helped cover up a slowly faded lightning bolt scar on her forehead.

She was currently wearing a long dark blue dress with sandals to match and her hair was done up in a loose ponytail style and her blood-red lips curled in distaste when she heard her aunt calling for her. She was now considered of age in the eyes of the Wizarding World at 17 years old and free to do whatever she wanted. Her plan was to make a trip to Gringotts before she left England for good. She pulled out her wand and shrunk all of her things in an expanded charmed made duffle bag and threw it over her shoulder and smiled sadly at the empty bird cage. Her beloved owl had died protecting her during the war against Voldemort and she missed her greatly.

Vanessa sighed as she went down the stairs and sneered when her aunt approached her. "Listen here girl, we're leaving for the day and we want this place to be spotless and no getting the food out of the fridge you hear me." She demanded her and Vanessa merely smirked at the long-necked woman. "Oh, I hear you Aunt Petunia, but the thing is, I don't care. I'm now considered of age because of the Wizarding World which means I'm now finally leaving this place. If you the place cleaned up, you do it yourself you old hag."

She snarled the last word at her aunt's paling face and walked out the front door and apparated with a loud crack. She grinned when she appeared before the Pub and made her way to the entrance of the ally and tapped the pattern on the brick wall. Loud voices of children talking about brooms, school, and showing off their pets and people bustling to get the shopping done had Vanessa smiling wistfully at the past. Stepping past the wall and into the ally, Vanessa made her way to the bank with only one goal in mind.

TIME SPAN

It took her quite a few days after she left that Vanessa can finally say her home was officially finished. She was ever so thankful when she had decided to leave the Wizarding World and she was able to manage to get all of her vaults connected to a single Debit card. She can proudly say that she was definitely a very rich girl. She did frown a bit though knowing she'll get bored eventually and groaned in thought. Since she moved to America and becoming an adult meant she would have to go to...dare she say it, High school.

It's not as though she was behind on her muggle school work, she did keep up with it in her summers by doing summer school. It helped when she told the teachers that her boarding school taught different subjects than the ones they actually taught. She debated between school and a job but sighed with dismay when she knew she needed actual people contact. Friends her age.

Her eyes tighten with slight anger when she remembered her previous so-called friends.

FLASHBACK

It was about a day since she visited Gringotts and she was still packing things as fast as she could, but seeing the newspapers that came in this morning. It seemed as though her departure has been known and she groaned in dismay when she heard her floo flare up and she could hear Weasley and Ronald. "Vanessa Joseline Potter, if you think you're leaving then you have another thing coming. We're your friends, you can't leave us." Ronald said hurriedly.

Vanessa sneered at him. "Friends? How can I be friends with the two of you when you've been stealing from me?" She grinned darkly when they started paling. "Yeah, that's right mate. Gringotts told me all about your dirty little secrets so no I will not be staying and you two are definitely not my friends any longer. Please leave." She demanded them.

Hermione and Ron gave her a dark glare in return before they exited out through the floo system and she hurriedly blocked the entrance so no more people would come in again whether she was here or not.

FLASHBACK END

Vanessa sighed and leaned back into her chair and relaxed. To be honest, she was happy now. Yes, she was lonely but for now, she can enjoy that loneliness cause knowing her reputation for getting in trouble, reason would find it that trouble always came looking for her.

TIMESPAN TIMESPAN TIMESPAN TIMESPAN

It had officially been a year since Vanessa started to live in Mystic Falls. And she could honestly say that she definitely didn't regret moving here at all and she even managed to find a strange friendship with dare she say it, a vampire known as Damon Salvatore. She didn't think she would be friends with one, but Damon had this wit about him that always had her amused. He was blunt and honest and yes, he hunted humans, but he had complete control meaning he wouldn't hurt people unknowingly. Of course, he could be lying to her when he said that because of the smirk he had on his face.

But she honestly really did care for Damon, he was the best friend she wished she had back in England. The thing is though, she was never going back there that's for sure. She was startled a bit when she heard a knock on her door and she got up from the dining table where she had been enjoying a cup of coffee and opened the front door.

Low and behold, it's the devil giving her one of his devilish smirks, she muttered to herself. Damon just started to chuckle at her in amusement. "Why hello Damon, fancy seeing you here today. Needed a break from the scooby gang?" She asked him. He huffed a bit but nodded.

"Apparently, they're worried that I'm going to let loose on this poor insignificant town. But they didn't listen to me when I said I had no interest since I had a friend here. My brother almost choked on his own saliva." Damon cackled in amusement. Vanessa just giggled at him.

"I'm sure he did unless he's still kind of alive and still dead." She waggled her eyebrows at him and he just smirked back. Damon walked into the house and settled himself on the sofa. "So, loca, how come you don't have anyone chasing after you to sweep you off your feet?" He asked her after a few minutes.

Vanessa shrugged after she got comfortable in the chair across from him. "Oh, never did find anyone I could trust as well as stand up against you. Anyone that tries to get a date with me, you end up eating them." She smirked when he failed at trying to be innocent.

He shrugged back. "Well, none of them were good enough for you and everyone could see that. I'm asking about back home." He asked her quietly seeing her tense up. "It was worse back home. I was considered a pariah who was worshipped one moment and then hated the next. It was a continued shit show until I left and couldn't handle it anymore. "She explained to him.

Damon just hummed in silence and then clapped his hands together and stood up. Vanessa looked at him in confusion, "Damon?" She asked him curiously. Her friend just gave her one of those devilish smirks. "Get your shoes and purse my dear, I'm taking you out to our local watering hole." He said and made his way to the front door and waited until she went with him.

Vanessa just grinned when he held out an arm for her to take like an instant gentleman and led her to his car. Vanessa enjoyed the car rides just as much as she enjoyed spending time with Damon. It brought about a sense of peace when the wind is blowing through her hair reminding her of flying on her broom. Of course, it's not the same but close enough.

They pulled up to a bar-like restaurant known as The Grill and they managed to walk to the entrance before Damon's phone started ringing. Her friend had a tense glare on his face at being interrupted and pulled out his cellphone. "Someone had better be dying Stefan." He said and walked off a short distance to talk to his brother. It took a few minutes, but when Damon came back, he was not happy.

"Sorry Ness, the Scooby gang just can't seem to resist my appearance for even a day." He apologized. Vanessa shrugged and gave him a small smile. "Some other time then I suppose. I may as well get some lunch here while I have the chance. Think you can pick me up after?" She asked him hoping he could. He gave her a light teasing smirk and bowed a little.
"I shall do my best little princess. Stay safe, make sure that bell boy is nearby to keep an eye on you and I will try to get away as soon as I'm able." He said cheekily before speeding off in his car using his vampire speed.

Vanessa rolled her eyes and made her way inside. Walking up to the bar, she found a booth to sit by herself and smiled at Matt when he spotted her. His pretty blue eyes lit up and he grinned at her. "Hi Vanessa, how are you today?" He asked her. Vanessa just huffed a little. "Oh, I'm alright, of course, a bit lonely. Hey, I just thought of something, how about you and I be lonely together?" She said cheekily when he started blushing bright red. Vanessa instantly froze when her magic started to purr when someone sat next to her at the booth.

The man next to her was handsome, extremely so. His shoulders were firm, filled with tense muscles. He wore an expensive suit and his hair was ebony, a little wavy but clean. He had dark black eyes similar to Severus Snape but when he felt her presence, he turned and gave her that smile that had her magic jumping in the excitement that he was paying attention to her and her eyes widen in the realization that he was her soul mate. "Mate." She whispered and he nodded.

"Indeed. Ah Matt, give me a scotch please." He politely asked her friend. She watched her friend look at him nervously but nodded anyway. "Coming right up." He said with a tense smile before making his drink. The man next to her turned to give her his full attention and gave her a smile. "My name is Elijah Mikelson my darling." His vampire purred smugly when she blushed.

"My name is Vanessa. Vanessa Joseline Potter." His eyes showed recognition at her name which meant that he knew of magic so he was either a wizard himself or a creature of sorts. "So, what brings you to this little quiet town, Elijah?" She asked him. He took a small sip of his scotch after Matt handed it to him. "I'm here under the guise of researching history. I do believe it's curious though." He said with amusement as he watched her.

Vanessa merely raised a dark eyebrow at him. "Curious how?" She asked him. He just gave her a bit of a smirk. "About the fact that the Girl Who Lived is in America and away from the wizarding world and the fact I just found out is my mate." He whispered the last part rather huskily. It was low to where other regular humans couldn't hear, but with her magic, she heard him just fine and she swallowed nervously when her magic started to purr again.

He gently grabbed her free hand and lift it to his lips in a gentle kiss, causing Vanessa to blush darkly. Elijah's eyes darken at the sight of her blush and he willed his vampire in him to calm down. "I would be honored if you would be so willing as to have dinner with me soon." He asked her, still holding onto her hand. She slowly nodded. And he brightens almost right away. "Wonderful, I will pick you up on Sunday at 6 o'clock pm. Don't worry about giving me an address." He said simply.

Vanessa raised an eyebrow at him again. He just chuckled at her. "Us vampires have a way of being able to track our mates once we found them." He told her and her mouth opened into an O shape and she nodded. She gave him a shy smile when he stood up. It took him a minute as though he was warring with himself when he made the move to gently kiss her on the forehead had her sighing at the gentle touch.

When she opened her eyes, Elijah had disappeared using what she assumed was his vampire speed and grinned. She had to tell Damon. He would be so happy that she had found her mate after all this time.
