Chapter 9. The Fate of Two Bad Parents.
With School out in Deerfield Illinois. May children look forward to three months of camping, water parks, and road trips. As for the Louder family, the family of now six including their Aunt Lynn were driving up to the state of Michigan were they will spend two weeks. For Michael, Jeffrey, and Franklin it was going to be a time of fun in the sun, rest and relaxation. For Lynn and Lincoln it was going to be something completely different, and more emotional.
For the reason they were going to the state of Michigan was to visit their parents both of whom are serving life sentences for what they did to their son years ago. However unbeknownst to Lynn, and Lincoln this trip was going to be something completely unexpected. For the two siblings did not know at the time what happened to their parents.
As Michael, Jeffrey and Franklin got packed, Lynn above all people packed the lightless in the group. All she had was one bag which she simply threw in the trunk. Lincoln and his wife Kate got their baggage in the trunk along with their three sons. Then with everything packed seat was going to be a little bit of a problem.
Lincoln's car was meant to seat only five people. Usually on trips like this one. Lincoln would drive Kate would sit in the Passenger seat, and Michael Jeffrey and Franklin would sit in the back. Needless to say this time around Michael, Jeffrey, and Franklin are going to be a bit more cramped. Because Aunt Lynn was sitting with them.
With everyone in place and everyone seated. Lincoln started his engine and took off. It would be about four to five hours before they reached the Michigan line.
Completely unbeknownst to the family of six that they were being monitored. Watch by surveillance as they drove past the Michigan line. Half way around the world at the Headquarters of CERN in the Swiss Alps. A young professor was watching them on a monitor.
"Well, Well, Well. Looks like the Prodigal Son has retuned! Not that I'm Religious or anything." She said to herself.
It was Professor Lisa Loud. Lincoln second youngest sister. As she watch the family driving into Michigan another professor came in and asked. "Professor Loud! What are you doing?"
"Just observing an old…how should I say acquaintance of mine…An acquaintance who I happen to be biologically related to." Lisa said
The other professor looked puzzled. "So you're spying on your family?" She asked
"By the way things look I might be leaving briefly for a family reunion!" Lisa said
Back On the road in the state of Michigan Lincoln and the rest of the family stopped at a rest stop got out for a stretch. Kate and Lynn got a cooler filled with snacks and sandwiches they've packed before the trip. As Michael, Jeffrey, and Franklin found a picnic table near were the they've parked. As the six sat down Lincoln sat next to Lynn and Kate sat across from Lincoln. Then Lincoln said.
"Michael, Jeffrey, Franklin. Me and Aunt Lynn have some long errands to run. Your mother will be watching you for the time being." He explained
All three brothers looked at each other with shocked facial expression.
"How long will the errands be?" Michael asked.
"Hours maybe. We might not see you again until later tonight." Lynn said
Both Michael, Jeffrey and Franklin looked at each other with confused facial expressions. Where were their father and Aunt Lynn going? Why would they be out late until night? As all these questions played in the head of the three brothers Kate their mother said. "Don't worry kids. There is a water park about a half hour from where we are and we'll be spending the day their."
The three boys were excited about going to the water park. However the statement of their father's last request still remained.
"Um Dad just out of curiosity where will you and Aunt Lynn be going?" Michael asked
Lincoln looked at Lynn, and Lynn looked at Lincoln. Then Lynn turned to the three and said. "If you must now we're going to be visiting your grandparents in prison. Not you're grandparents from Deerfield Illinois but your father and mine biological parents."
Both Michael, Jeffrey and Franklin stood speechless. After the night Aunt Lynn came into their family they knew then and there that their father was adopted. After sharing their backstory with the family that night not only did they learn about the bad things Bad Lynn did to their father, but from what was said his birth parents were just as bad.
"Dad, are you sure that's a good idea?" Michael asked uncomfortable.
"Why?" Lincoln asked
"Remember your parents kicked you out of your home. They forced you to sleep in the yard, They boarded up your room and sold all your belongings!" Jeffrey explained
"Yes I'm well aware of that." Lincoln stated
"Are you sure? Then why would you want to visit them in person?" Michael asked
Lynn took a deep breath and stated. "Look, in the five years I've spent in Juvie I thought long and hard about all the bad things I did to my brother, your father. The more I thought of what I did the more I regretted it. That why after getting relisted from Juvie moving from job to job just trying to survive I told myself if I ever saw your father again I would tell him just how sorry I was. I wanted him to know just how awful of a sister I was and how I above all people should take the blame for our parent's lives in prison."
The three boys all looked at their father and their aunt with astonishment. They knew just how sorry Aunt Lynn was for her part in ruining their father's life. Michael even remembered the slap to the face his father gave him after bringing up the word that reminded him about his whole ordeal. Now to see both the aunt who made their fathers life a living hell, go to the people who are now serving life sentences for their part in what happened. Michael, Jeffrey and Franklin both had very uneasy feelings for their father's choice in visiting their incarcerated parents. What if the years in prison made them harden and evil? What if their incarcerated grandparents are no different than the criminals behind bars? All these questions and more plagued the minds of the three boys all of whom became aware of the truth about their fathers past life and family only a few months ago.
Lincoln dropped his wife and three kids off at the water park as he and Lynn drove down to The Michigan State Penitentiary. Upon entering the facility the guards at the front desk asked. "Excuse me, We're here to see Lynn Loud Sr.?"
The guard looked up with a shocked expression and stated in a question. "Are you kidding me?"
"No we are not kidding you we want to see our father!" Lynn said
The guard looked puzzled and confused. He looked up at the two then he noticed Lincoln. He noticed his white hair then he asked. "Wait? Are you that young boy who was kicked out of his own house by his own family?"
Lincoln took a deep breath and said. "As a matter of fact I am."
The front desk clerk looked with shock. He called the warden and told him about the two visitors who at the desk. The Warden then called the two up to his office. As soon as he saw it was the young boy who was kicked out of his house and the girl who abused the boy he was for a brief period of time at a loss for words. Even thought the events happened over twenty years ago, The case of "The State Of Michigan vs. Loud!" was still fresh in the minds of every law enforcement and law precisionist in the state of Michigan.
"You? You're the boy who was kick out of his house and the girl who use to beat him?" The Warden asked
"We were but not anymore." Lynn said
"We've came to visit our father Lynn Loud Sr. he's serving a life sentence at this facility." Lincoln explained
"Yes I'm well aware of that. I want to see him. Is he still alive?" Lincoln stated.
"We'll um yes but why do you want to see the Head Chef of our prison facility?" the warden asked
Both Lynn and Lincoln jaws dropped with surprise. Their own father, the same father whom kicked him out of the house twenty years ago and was sent to prison for it is now the Head Chef of the entire prison facility. This was something both Lynn and Lincoln never expected. On the ride over to the penitentiary both Lynn and Lincoln thought of many different scenario for their father. Best case scenario is that he has no friends and sits alone by himself all the time. Worst Case scenario he get murdered by another inmate. Even though the thought of their father being dead was on their mind they agreed never to give into their emotion until it was certain. Being the Head Chef of a penitentiary preparing meals for both the inmates, the guards and the warden was nothing Lynn and Lincoln suspected not in a million years.
Of course both Lynn and Lincoln knew their father was a good cook, But they also knew that prison life was not something their father meant for. Lynn having spent five years in Juvie, and Lincoln now in his thirties both knew what prison life was like now. They knew it was anything but pleasant, But from what the warden explained their father took to prison life as if it was a piece of cake for him.
"Yes we still want to see our father." Lynn said.
Meanwhile in the Michigan State Penitentiary Kitchen, Prisoner number 4070 was working away preparing the next meals for all the inmates, guards, and staff who work at the penitentiary. Prisoner Number 4047 was none other than Lynn Loud Sr. the father of the two visitors whom came to visit him. As he was manning the stove cooking away the warden over the intercom said. "Prisoner 4070, report to the visiting room NOW!".
All the other inmate who were working the kitchen stood silent. By the tone of the Warden's voice he sounded like Lynn was in serious trouble. The head chef of the facility slowly walked down to the visiting room. As soon as he got there he was speechless for a while. He immediately recognized the two people waiting for him. Not only were they the last people he'd expect to come visit him. They were also the last people whom he expect to see together.
Lynn and Lincoln took in a good long look at their father. His hair was now grey and he had a silver mustache. The top of his head was now bald and he had some liver spots on his forehead. It was about a good two maybe three minutes before Lynn Sr. finally spoke. "Hey….Kiddo's….How's it going?"
Lynn and Lincoln looked at each other than Lincoln said. "We're doing alright. Happy to see us?"
"Well I wasn't expecting to see you guys. Especially after the trial. I'm surprised to see you two together even after everything…" Lynn Sr. tried to explain until stepped in.
"Dad, we've worked things out me and Lincoln. We came down here to do the same with you." She explained
Lynn Sr. did let out a sigh of relief for his two kid reconciling their differences. Even though the whole ordeal took place over twenty years ago. The memories of the whole event were still fresh in everyone's minds as if it was yesterday. The arrests, the trial, and the prison sentences. All these memories played back in their minds like it was a prerecorded movie. Even though he was still trying to get his thoughts together Lynn Sr. was at a loss. This visit was very unexpected as well as surprising. Truth was Lynn was scared. He didn't know if his two children came to visit him to reconcile with him, make amends for all his past mistakes that landed him in prison. Or to take their frustrations out on him, shouting, cursing for the same reason.
"You two are the very last people I'd expected to come visit me. In fact you two are the very last people I expected to see together?" Lynn Sr. said.
Lynn lowered her head. She took a deep breath and said. "Look Dad, I know it's been twenty years scene the whole…incident…I know it these past twenty years has not been good for any of us… But I feel it's time to forgive our past mistakes and move on."
Lincoln then had his own words to share. "Look, I know what you guys did to me was harsh and inexcusable. Even after running into Lynn I wanted to kick her out of my house. But After seeing how sorry she was for her part in what she did twenty years ago…I…I couldn't just ignore her. I forgave her and brought her back into my life."
Lynn Sr.'s eyes began to tear up. "You kiddo's are doing alright now?" He asked on the verge of tears.
"It alright Dad, We've forgave each other." Lincoln explained.
Lynn Sr. began to cry both Lincoln and Lynn wanted to share their story with their father.
"When Lynn came to my house to apologize she was not the abusive monster I remembered from my childhood." Lincoln explained
"Let's just say my years in Juvie didn't go well for me. So how's prison treating you?" Lynn asked
After whipping tears away from his eyes Lynn Sr. said. "Actually I grew quiet accustomed to Prison Life. My first year here may have been tuff, but after I was assigned kitchen duties I became famous here. On my first night of cooking we were going to make as they call it six bean prison chili but after looking over the ingredients I realized it was only a few vegetable and pasta way from being gulag. That night instead of prison chili I made prison gulag. All the guards and inmates loved it. The kitchen staff asked if I had any more ideas for recipe's and sure enough within a year I found myself preparing Lynn-zagna, Tuna Casuals, and all three meals for over five hundred inmates, nine hundred guards and all the staff who work here. Big-C absolutely loves my Mac-N-Cheese bites."
"Who's Big-C?" Lynn asked
"Oh, just an inmate who's serving time for armed robbery and murder but that's beside the point. The point is ever since I became the head chef of the Prison Kitchen, Prison Riots went down 99% and good model prisoners who get paroled early went up 52%." Lynn Sr. explained.
After a while both Lynn Jr. and Lincoln were at a loss for words. After seeing their father and who well prison life is treating him. Even though Lynn Sr. was sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole Lynn still needed to ask. "So um Dad, If it were possible would you like to out of prison one day?"
"I never want to leave here! I have a great job! Great friends and Great people I cook for!" Lynn Sr. explained
It was clear to the two Loud siblings that their father was happy where he was and didn't want to leave. It was then that Lincoln came up and shared his side of the story. "I got marred ten years ago and now I have three sons." He said.
Lynn Sr.'s eyes began to water at the news of his son's family. As time went on their visit came to an end. Lynn and Lincoln informed their father that despite all that happened years ago He was still their father and they forgave him. Lincoln also promised on his next visit to bring his grandchildren with him.
As the two were leaving they were approached by the warden. "You not thinking of taking away our head chef are you?" The warden asked
"Nope, after seeing how happy he is here we can't blame him for wanting to stay." Lincoln said with a smile.
As Lynn and Lincoln departed from The Michigan State Penitentiary Their next stop was the Michigan State Women's prison were their mom was being held. As soon as they got to the registration desk they asked for a prisoner named 'Loud'.
"According to our record we have two prisoners here with that name." The register said
Lynn looked at Lincoln, and Lincoln looked at Lynn. Two prisoners named Loud. The two could only assume it must be one of their sisters. Lincoln wondered which sister? Lori, Lola? Just a few names came to mind. He night have even guessed Lynn if the two haven't net.
"Rita" Lincoln said.
"Oh we do have her." The register said.
After a brief talk they agreed to see both inmates. The first was their mother Rita. As soon a Rita saw her only son and daughter sitting together she almost brock down to tear.
"Hi Mom." Lincoln said.
"Lincoln! Is that really you! You've grown up!" Rita said
"We'll it has been a while." Lincoln said
Then Rita looked over to Lynn. "Lynn I Am Very Disappointed In What You Have Done To Your Brother!" Rita stated out loudly.
Lincoln tried to calm their mother down. "Now, Now Mom. It's been over twenty years since that incident. We've already moved on." He said
"Oh I suppose you right." Rita said.
"So what have you been up to science you've moved here?" Lincoln asked
"I teach in the prison education program. I've been teaching prisoner who never graduated from high school, helping them get their G.E.D. I'm telling you some of them can't even read. But it's always great seeing them graduate with their diplomas in hand." Rita explained
Lynn looked at Lincoln and Lincoln looked at Lynn. "Guess Both of our parents are doing well in prison." Lynn said
"Yes, I'm doing actually fine. I've got quite adjusted to prison life." Rita explained
"So mom just returned from visiting Dad in prison." Lincoln said
Rita's eyes opened wide. "Your father! You've seen your father!?" she asked with anticipation.
"Yep, and it turns out he's well-adjusted to prison life too. He's the head chef at penitentiary." Lynn explained.
Rita sighed with relief knowing her husband was the head chef at the prison he was held at.
"Oh, Mom, I'm married and I have three sons." Lincoln explained.
Tears began to swell in Rita's eyes at the news of her son having his own family. As Rita was thinking about how much her son has grown up Lincoln still had one question on his mind.
"So Mom, I heard that there is another inmate named Loud in the prison with you? Is she one of our sisters?" Lincoln asked
"Yes! Your sister Luna." Rita answered.
Both Lynn and Lincoln's jaws dropped with shocked facial expressions. Luna would have been the last person they've expected to be in prison.
"So Um Why is she here?" Lynn asked
"It's complicated. If you want you can ask her yourself." Rita said
Both siblings agreed. After Lynn and Lincoln said farewell to their mother they asked the warden to bring in the other Loud inmate.
Within a few minute a woman in an orange jumpsuit with a buzz haircut, tattoos, and multiple ear piercings came in. As soon as she saw Lincoln with his white hair she looked as if she has seen a ghost. Both he and Lynn got a good look at this inmate and they knew right off the bat it was their sister Luna.
