Chapter 16: Bad Hex, Bad Carma.
Twenty Years Earlier...
After the Trial of "The State Of Michigan Vs. Loud." Maria Santiago moved with her two children Roberto "Bobby" and Ronalda "Ronnie Anne" To Great Lakes City to live with her extended family. Her Father Hector, Her mother Rosa, her brother Carlos, his wife Frida, and their four children, Carlota, Carlos Jr. "C.J." , Carl, and Carlettos.
Ronnie Anne was not in a bad mood throughout the whole ordeal. Not only was her best friend's family divided and broken up over bad parenting. Now she was being dragged against her will to a strange new place she was not familiar with. She felt like a prisoner being flown out to Alcatraz. As soon as she arrived her new room was a converted closet.
After a few days or so Ronnie Anne began to get more adjusted to her new life. Even though she was constantly annoyed by her cousins Carl and C.J., she did have a good relationship with Carlota, who would often prank them, and her brother Bobby. Even though Grate Lakes City did post for weeks the case of "The State of Michigan Vs, Loud." Ronnie Anne felt it was time to move on and avoid the past as best as she can. Soon the Past in Royal Woods would come back to haunt her in a way she never thought possible.
Carlota and Ronnie Anne both enjoyed Pranking C.J., Carl, and Bobby. About a year into their new life in Great Lake City, Ronnie Anne looked up an old family album of her mother's side of the family. It had photos of her Grandma Rosa and her Grandpa Hector back when they were much younger wither her Mother Maria and her uncle Carlos back when they were Her's and Bobby's age.
As she was looking through them her cousin Carlota came up and spoke. "You know your mother grew up in this apartment. Your uncle, and Grandparents lived in this apartment all their lives."
Ronnie Anne looked up at her cousin. "During their time in this city. Did anyone in their family kick them out for no good reason?" she asked.
"WHAT? NO! Why would you ask such a question?" Carlota asked with both shock and confusion.
"Because my best friend parents are in jail now, and his sisters in juvenile detention because they done the exact same thing to him." Ronnie Anne replied.
"What did they do?" Carlota asked
Ronnie Anne looked up at Carlota and asked. "Do you Remember the case of (The State of Michigan vs. Loud?)"
Carlota eyes open wide and asked. "You mean he was that boy who was abused by his own family?"
"None other." Ronnie Anne replied
At that moment as Ronnie Anne and Carlota was talking Bobby was having a heated argument with his Grandparent Hector and Rosa in the kitchen.
"You know the kind of Monster She was! The kind of Monster her and her Familia were to that young boy!" Hector stated out loudly.
"Abuelo I know what she did that's why I broke up with her." Bobby explained.
"That poor young boy, Just to think you've dated the monster who beat and abused him!" Rosa stated
"Abuela We're not dating anymore! We have broke up! I did not even know she was a monster until the new broke out!" Bobby explained.
At that moment Maria came home. As she came through the door, she overheard the commotion from her family.
"Hay what's all the commotion here?" Maria asked
"We just found out your son Bobby use to date the monster who beat her little brother." Rosa stated
"The same boy who was all over the news less than a month ago, who's family was on trial and who's parents are now serving life sentences." Hector stated.
At that moment Carlota and Ronnie Anne came into the room and saw the four together. "What's going on we've heard you shouting in the other room." Carlota asked
"We've just found out that Bobby was in a relationship with one of the monsters who abused that young boy." Rosa said.
"Yah, Abuela We are all aware of that! That young boy was my best friend!" Ronnie Anne explained.
At that moment Rosa and Hector both looked to Bobby then To Ronnie Anne then back to Bobby, Then Back to Ronnie Anne, then back to Bobby. The two were in a state of disbelief. How could these two have such close relationships with siblings who were exact opposites of family.
Bobby stepped forward. "Look When I first met Lori, she seemed like a nice girl, She was charming and witty, Then I was introduced to her family her little brother Lincoln and I even bonded with each other. I would never guess in a million years she and her family would turn on him like that!" he explained.
"I was just as shocked by this whole ordeal as everyone else was!" Ronnie Anne explained
Both Rosa and Hector were now reasonably convinced that Both Bobby and Ronnie Anne even though they knew and befriended the family they were unaware of the Family's true nature.
"We'll I have a new rule for this family. We are not to mistreat anyone in any way." Rosa stated.
"Yes, we are not tolerating any child abuse." Hector stated.
With both Rosa and Hector's intentions being made clear Maria, Bobby, and Ronnie Anne felt they can finally move on with their lives and leave the past in Royal Woods Behind. Little did they knew that a mistake will soon happen that would make the Casagrande's no different from the Loud's.
After about three months into the new life Ronnie and Carlota bonded closely together. The two often enjoyed dressing up in fashionable clothes, going shopping at the cities many locations but perhaps most of all Pranking their siblings. Ronnie Anne and Carlota enjoyed pranking Bobby, C.J. and Carl. One night after getting home from school Ronnie Anne noticed her Grandma Rosa burning something in the living room.
"Abuela what are you doing?" Ronnie Anne asked
"One of the tenets in this apartment complex passed away, I'm burning sage so that their spirit does not cures the building." Rosa explained
Ronnie Anne was a little perplexed, fortunately for her Carlota was in the doorway listing in on her grandma's conversation.
"Ronnie Anne can I have a word with you for a moment?" Carlota asked.
As soon as Ronnie Anne and Carlota were in the room together Carlota explained. "Ronnie, I forgot to mention that our abuela is a little superstitious."
"A little superstitious? Like she believer in ghosts and spirits?" Ronnie Anne asked
"She also believes in curses." Carlota said.
At that moment a thought entered Ronnie Annes mined It was a thought that would cause terrible consequents for the Casagrande family but for now Ronne Anne thought of pranking her little cousin Carl.
Carlieno "Carl" Casagrande was in his room at the time playing with his train set. Ronnie Anne was leaning on the edge near the door. "Carl Hay Carl!" Ronnie Anne called out in a sinister tone.
Carl looked up and asked "What do you want Ronnie Anne?"
"Tell me Carl, do you enjoy those Mexican Holiday Festivals were you dress up like a girl and do all sorts of girly things?" Ronnie Anne asked
"WHAT? NO! It's so embarrassing. For the Christmas Padget I had to ware this white dress with a white skirt and had candles on my head. For Deo's Diaos I had to dress up in this black overcoat with skeleton bones!" Carlino went on and on about his dreaded holiday ordeals.
At that moment Ronnie Anne pulled out a photo album. It was a photo album from the Casagrande's family during their holiday events, And sure enough Carl was in them dress in the most embarrassing and uncomfortable things imaginable.
"Yah! Take That away From me!" Carl said in dread.
"You know Carl, Abuela is superstitious about wired thing! If you convince her that you're Bad Luck or under a cures she might forbid you from coming to the events. She'll defiantly forbid you from dressing up like a Christmas Queen." Ronnie Anne said with an evil smirk on her face.
Carlieno's face lit up like a light bulb. "You mean I won't have to dress up and Proform those dumb pageants!" Carl asked with excitement.
"Of course, Abuela would never let anyone under a cures preform a pageant or dress up like that." Ronnie Anne said with her evil grin.
Carl jumped up and down with excitement. "Oh Boy then Let Me Be Cursed!" he shouted with excitement.
Little did Carl and Ronnie Anne know this was going to be a bad idea that would lead to dire consequences.
Early the next morning Carlos just woke up and walked into the kitchen were his wife Frida was preparing the coffee.
"Good morning Meridor!" Frida said in a cheery voice.
"Morning dear." Carlos said as he went to pored himself a cup of coffee.
At that moment, there was a scream from the living room. The two quickly ran to see what was happening only to find their seconded youngest son Carl standing with a huge grin on his face, and Hector and Rosa cowering in the corner of the room.
"Madre! What's Wrong?" Carlos asked his mother
"Carl... He is...He's Cursed!" Rosa said with dread.
Perplexed by his mother's reactions Carlos asked. "What makes you think Carl is cursed?"
"It's true Papa!" Carl said as he lowered his shirt collar exposing the number 666 on his lower neck.
"Tres Seis! The Mark Of The Beast!" Hector cried out.
Carlos, ever the sceptic, walked in and spoke. "Now, now, While I do have every respect for cultural traditions and folklore however there is no scientific proof that people or objects are cursed."
"How can you be sure Meridor?" Frida Carlos's wife asked
At that moment a crashing sound came from Frieda's art room. Frieda ran in and to her horror found her entire art room trashed. Her paints smeared everywhere, Her Brushed scattered all over the floor, and her canvases busted. And Carl was standing in the middle.
"MOMMY! IM CURESED!" Carl cried out
Frieda looked with horror at both her trashed art room, her ruined projects and then at her son.
"I Can't Believe! MY CARLIENO IS CURESED!" Frida cried out
Even thought the rest of the Casagrande family was convinced that Carl was under a Curse Carlos still insisted. "Now look Just because Carl trashed your art room does not mean he's Cursed. Children trash rooms for attention all the time and..." At that moment a flash of fire came from Carlo's closet library where he kept all his books and encyclopedias. As soon as Calos ran into his closet library and saw his first edition encyclopedias and collators, all burnt to a pile of ashes. And standing next to them was Carl
Carlos's eyes opened wide and at that moment he was convinced just like the rest of the family.
"There Is NO Question About It! MY SON IS CURSED!" Carlos cried out.
As the entire family huddled together to diced what should be done about Carl While a smug grin covered his face. Of to the side Carlota and Ronnie Anne watched as the rest of the Casagrande's decide what should be done about Carl.
Soon the entire Casagrande family was standing around Carl. They were all smiling until Rosa said "Get Him!" At that moment they sized Carl stripping him down to his underwear and locking him in Lallo's dog Cage.
Rosa strung up cloves of garlic and stalks of rosemary all around the cage Carl was now locked in.
Scared and in a state of panic Carl asked. "Mommy, Daddy what are you doing!?"
"We want you to know we love you son." Frida explained.
"Originally I was going to use this garlic and rosemary for cooking, but now it will be used to keep you hex at bay!" Rosa explained.
"We're going to be burning all your clothes and belongings. We can't afford any cursed objects ruining us." Carlos explained
"This entire building can fall down upon us!" Hector explained.
Carl began to shiver be locked in Lallo's cages, wearing only his underwear with strings of garlic cloves and rosemary stalks strung up around the cage.
Ronnie Anne and Carlota did feal a little bit sorry for Carl, even though the whole ordeal made them hold back chuckles and giggles.
Rosa was now both burning sage and waving a feathered painted Aztec baton in the air.
The next morning, Carl woke up in his cage filled with garlic and rosemary when suddenly His mother Frida came in with a new set of clothes.
"We got you new clothes son." Frida said
"Come with us son we're going out." Carlos said
After carl got dressed and his parents left the apartment with him the three went out on a normal parent son outing. Carlos and Frida took their son to the pier by the lake, taking Carl to the Mall and the Arcade.
Everything was going great until the evening came. At first Carl felt that his mother and father were sorry for all his belongings being thrown out and locking him in the cage.
"Mommy, Daddy! Does this mean We're Going To Be a Family Again!"
Frida Looked at Carlos and Carlos Looked At Frida.
"I want you to know son that you will always be our son and we will always love you." Carlos said
And with that the two got out of their car and Frida grabbed a Cardboard Box and the three led Carl down a vacant lot behind the store.
"You have to live outside here in this vacant lot behind the store from now on!" Frida said
"WHAT!" Carl shouted in disbelief.
"We cannot risk having you inside the building. You are cursed after all." Carlos said
Shocked, appalled and discouraged, Carl curled up into a feeble position inside the cardboard box his mother gave him. Frida placed a blanket over him and said. "Don't worry son well have security cameras placed outside the building se we can keep an eye on you."
Carl didn't say anything. He tried to keep warm on the chilly night because the blanket his mother gave him did not help to keep him warm.
Three nights later after Carl living outside on the cold streets of the city being fed only through Lolla's dog flap.
After three days Carl was fed up with how his family was treating him. He ran away from home and went down another dark alley were there was a group of hooded teenagers with black and red colors. Carl did not know it at the time, but he ran into a gang.
"Hey look who we have here?" One of the teenagers said as he pulled out a knife on him.
What happened next will eventually lead down a path of regret that will plague the Santiago and Casagrande families forever.
Three days later Carlos and Frida were worried because Carl was missing from their camera footage.
"Meridor where did you think Carl went?" Frida asked, worried.
"I don't know we should call the police." Carlos said
At that moment, a knock came on the door and there was a police officer standing outside the Casagrande's apartment.
"Are you Frida and Carlos Casagrande?" The officer asked
Ronnie Anne and her cousin Carlota were also talking about Carl's were abouts.
"Where we too hard on him?" Ronnie Anne asked with a hint of worry.
"Don't worry the family will come around that he's not cursed and he'll come around to forgive us." Carlota said
At that moment, a scream came from the kitchen fallowed by a "THUD!" noise.
Carlota and Ronnie Anne both ran into the kitchen to see Frieda pass out and Carlos passing the floors back and forth.
"This is bad. This is bad. This is bad. This is bad." Carlos repeated repeatedly to himself.
"Tio Carlos what happened?" Ronnie Anne asked with worry
Carlos turned to Ronnie Anne and said. "Your cousin Carl. He...He joined the Brutes."
Perplexed by what her father said Carlota asked. "Who or what are the Brutes?"
Carlos Grabbed his daughters' shoulders and in a state of panic stated. "The Brutes Are A Street Gang From Detroit! Carl Robed a Convenient Store and Shot The Clerk Dead! YOUR BROTHERS A GANG BANGER!" Carlos shouts out
At this, the Casagrande family went into the kitchen, Ronnie Anne, Carlota, Carlos and an unconscious Frida were.
"I knew it, He Was Cursed After All!" Rosa said
"Things Could Have Gotten Worst If We Kept Him in Here." Hector said
As the entire family was talking back and forth about Carl and everything that has happened Ronnie Anne then stepped in and spoke. "People Please! It's my fault, we've talked about our family rituals and cultural rituals, and I convinced Carl to pretend to be cursed. I just wanted to prank him, that is all. I did not think it would go this far."
After Ronnie Annes confession the entire Casagrande Family's expression changed from fear and panic to anger and rage.
"You mean you've tricked Carl into make us believe he's cursed just so we can kick him out of the house and miss treat him!?" Rosa asked with rage.
Ronnie Anne felt like she was being led to her execution. With her entire family looking at her with anger, rage, and discus.
"Guess I'm grounded." Ronnie Anne said in a low dejected tone.
"Grounded! Be grounded sounds like too lenient of a punishment for you! You are no different that Lincoln's sisters!" Maria her own mother said
The words of her mother punched Ronnie Anne in the stomach. After the trial, the truth about the Loud family shocked her to the bone. To hear that she became just like them was unthinkable even for her.
Later that night Ronnie Anne was haunted by a terrible dream.
Ronnie Anne was out at the skate park when she decided to take her sweater off. She noticed she was wearing a red and white number one sport jersey. One of her friends said. "Hey Nice Sports jersey! Where did you get it?"
The jersey Ronnie Anne was wearing looked familiar, but she could not figure it out where she got it from. She went into the washroom to wash her face when suddenly she heard a voice.
"Hey! Ronnie Anne!"
She looked up into the mirror and but instead of her face. It was the face of Lynn Loud Lincoln's sister.
"Guess you and I aren't all that different! What you did to your little cousin I did to my little bro!" Lynn said
At that moment Ronnie and Woke up and Screamed to the top of her lungs.
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
The entire Casagrande family came in and comforted Ronnie Anne. She explained to them the nightmare and said she was willing to take full responsibility for her actions.
Three months later at the Lansing Michigan courthouse The same courthouse were only a year ago the case of "The State of Michigan vs. Loud" was held, a very different case was being presented.
Carlino "Carl" Casagrande, Now known by his gang name "Big-C" was on trial, Ronnie Anne stood and testified about her cousin and explained that it was all her fault. Even though the judge did not buy it he was lenient enough to give Carl "Big-C" Casagrande a life sentence with no possibility of parole.
As Ronnie Anne was leaving the courthouse a man in a three-piece tie suet came up to her.
"Hey kid, I've heard your testimony in court." he said to Ronnie Anne.
It was Richard Cane, the same detective who only one year before prosecuted in the case of "The State Of Michigan vs. Loud.".
"What do you want?" Ronnie Anne asked in a dejected tone.
"It takes guts to stand up for what you said. Have you ever thought of a career in law enforcement?" Detective Cane asked
This was the moment that would change Ronnie Annes life forever. It was the start down the path that would lead her to become a Michigan State Trooper. She will spend the rest of her life atoning for her mistakes and making amends for what she has done.
A.N. Yes Basically this was a "No Such Luck!" Casagrande episode. I know there will be a lot of comments about this after it get published. And yes the same "Big-C" whom Lynn Sr. Mention kn chapter 9 was Carl Casagrande. The next chapter will focus on Lana and the Chang family. Till next time.
