On the river, Randy was floating on a branch knocked out from the attack. The red scarf was also clinging to the branch to keep Randy afloat. After another few minutes, he ran into a dock and Howard was already there with his grandmother's cane. He tapped him on the head to make sure that he was alive and breathed a sigh of relief that he was. 'Good, Now I'll just need to help him. He's the only one who can stop Shadow.'

Later that night, Howard managed to patch Randy up and bandaged his wounds. Randy woke up to the feeling of rain on his head. He groan in pain as he opened his eyes. 'What ... what happened?' He looked around and saw that it was raining outside. 'Where am I?' He looked to the side of him and saw Hoard sitting next to a fire.

He tried to crawl away. Using his foot to drag himself little by little wincing in pain each time. Before he could drag himself away, he saw Howard lift his head so he did the only thing he thought of, play dead.

He didn't hear anything so he opened his eyes and turned over, only for Howard to be standing next to him. "AH!" He stood up suddenly irritating his wounds. "Okay, bad idea." He looked at Howard who had a spoon of medicine in his hand. "Yeah, like you could make me drink that." Just as he said that Howard put a needle in his forehead forcing him to open his mouth. Howard threw the medicine in his mouth and then removed the needle. Randy then swallowed the medicine.

"If I wanted you dead, dude, then I would have totally left you in that river. Besides, I'm lucky the scarf even let me help you."

"Scarf?" Randy looked down and saw his scarf around his neck and keeping his right arm in a sling. Everything came back to him all at once. He was quick to take off his scarf. "What is that thing? How it is alive?! Why did you save me? Don't you work for Shadow?!"

"That is a Norisu Scarf, honk if I know how it's alive, I don't for Shadow anymore. I saved you so you can fulfill your destiny."

"Destiny? What destiny? What's a Norisu Scarf? And where am I?" Randy began to remove all the acupuncture needles from his body then he looked around and it seemed like he was in an abandoned village. vegetation was growing in all the homes.

Howard looked at Randy with little surprise. "I guess I shouldn't be that surprised that you don't remember much. My grandma told me all about you and your home. You were really young when it happened."

Muffled screams rang in Randy's mind. "Aah!" Randy clutched his head and threw the water pack off his head. The scarf crawled over to Randy but Randy crawled away from it. 'This is crazy, even crazier than me becoming the Tengu Warrior. That scarf can't be alive, clothes don't just come to life.'

"Huh, I guess you do remember," Howard commented.

"Remember what? It's just a stupid nightmare."

"Are you sure about that, dude? Is it a nightmare or a memory?"

Randy looked at the giant puddle of water below him. A drop of water fell down rippling it until it revealed him as a baby. 'Have... have I been here?'

Randy could see it. Ninjas training against practice dummies, kids flying kites, people fishing, and so much more. It was fairly blurry, but he could also see his parents. His mother was calling out to him. He could recall himself going down the stairs of his home and crawling to his parents.

"My grandma told me all about this place. It was once a thriving village. It was the home of the Norisu Clan. A powerful ninja clan who used their powers for good. A young Shadow was in line to rule Mahō City. But he wanted more. Back then, my grandma foretold that someone would stand in his way. It would be a member of the Norisu Clan." He looked at Howard with surprise.

'The Norisu Clan, I've never heard of them. I've read everyone about ninja clans and their arts, but I've never heard of the Norisu Clan.'

"However, my grandma never could have foretold what came next."

In an instant, Randy was flooded with memories.

He could hear a baby crying, it was him.

The village was on fire.

People were running. Ninjas were fighting and some were getting killed by the same warriors that worked for Shadow.

Shadow was soon seen giving orders to his warriors to kill all members of the Norisu Clan and to leave no survivors.

Randy was sitting on the steps of his home, hugging a toy, crying for his mom and dad.

"GET THEM ALL!"

The warriors ran after Randy and his mother was quick to defend her son with a sword. She slashed at the warriors killing them instantly.

His father picked him up and his mother told him, "Take our son and run away. I'll hold them off! GO!"

Randy dropped the toy he was holding onto and fell as his father picked him up and ran.

Randy found the toy he dreamed about. It was a small ninja toy with a red scarf like his own and looked like a ninja with only his eyes visible. (Think of a stuffed animal version of Randy) 'How?'

Randy was plagued with another nightmare. It was his father leaving him behind.

He clenched his head in pain. 'What's going on? Why am I experiencing these nightmares? What do they mean?' He felt something on his leg. It was his scarf. He backed away again, nervous about the scarf that was alive.

"Dude, you've got to stop fighting. Let it flow. There is more to that scarf than you realize."

Randy looked up at the raining sky. 'He's right. If these are memories, then I need to see them as one whole story and not just parts. I need to know what happened before I got to the orphanage.'

Randy set the toy down so it sat upright and picked up the scarf. "I don't know what you are but I know that you came from my parents maybe you can help." He wrapped the scarf around his neck. He took a deep breath. 'Breath, Randy.' His foot made a crescent shape on the ground as he prepared himself to do the same thing he saw Nadakan doing earlier.

He carefully lifted his hand in the sky and then waited. A drop of water fell onto his hand and he maneuvered it around his arms and hands.

He could feel his father's fear as they ran through the winter woods. He watched the snowflakes fly by him. He turned his head and saw the warriors chasing after them.

Randy continued to maneuver the drop of water around his arms and the scarf flowed in the air behind him as a black mask started to appear on his face. It was starting at the bottom of his neck and going up.

Randy's father continued to dodge the warriors that were attacking them. He would have fought back but he was injured and his son was with him. He couldn't escape from the warriors.

The creation of his mask was going past his eyes. Red lines started to form on his mask as he continued to create itself. Howard could just watch in awe. 'Whoa. Grandma would be so amazed to see this.'

Randy's father ran down a hill where he saw a basket near a river. It was abandoned but it was a perfect size for a one-year-old baby. He grabbed the basket and carefully placed his son inside.

Randy opened his eyes. 'This... this was the first memory I saw.'

Randy cried for his father to take him back. He was scared and wanted his dad to hold him. Randy's father looked at him with tears in his eyes. He didn't want to leave him behind but he had no choice. It was the only way to save his life. He took off his scarf and placed it in the basket. He also wrote a very short note and then placed it in the basket as well. He comforted his son once more who cooed at his father's touch. He briefly took off his mask and kissed his son on the head. "Dada."

His father opened his eyes as more tears started to fall. "Protect him. You will be his now. Keep him safe until you find someone to help." He held his son's hand once more before sadly letting go and setting the basket in the river.

Randy could do nothing but watch as his father grew smaller. His father ran back into the forest to lead the warriors away from his son, so he could live. Randy continued to cry for his father as he drifted further and further away.

Randy released the drop of water on a small plant near the stuffed ninja. He began to breathe heavily. He had no thoughts and no words for the first time in his life. Shadow killed his whole village, his whole family, all because of a prophecy.

Randy sat down in the grass to take it all in. Howard soon joined him.

Randy just sat down and some tears started to fall. He had hoped to find his parents alive or find someone from his family but it seemed that none of them even survived the attack all those years ago. 'I... I truly am alone.'

Howard let it stay silent for a few minutes then said, "You know, your story may not have such a happy beginning but trust me when I say this, that doesn't make you who you are. It is the rest of your story. Who you choose to be."

Randy looked back at the things he had seen and the people he had met. Ms. Garcia, the woman who took him in as a baby, the kids he cared for in his home, the people who had helped him care for his family, and most importantly, his journey to becoming the Tengu Warrior.

He was so determined to meet them when he did and he failed and failed again but soon, he saw his true potential. He was a warrior. The Tengu Warrior and a member of the Norisu Clan. He defeated Mac Antfee, a man who wanted nothing but power and would do anything to get it. He defeated him when his master couldn't.

"That scarf is yours now." Randy looked at his reflection once more and was surprised to see himself wearing a ninja mask with red streaks and the scarf, no, his scarf flowing behind him. "It is the mark of the Norisu clan, it will work with you and protect you. Who are you, Norisu Ninja?"

With determination in his eyes, Randy stood up and said, "My name is Randy Cunningham. I am the Tengu Warrior and a member of the Norisu clan and I'm gonna need a hat."

I first want to apologize for the very long wait for an update. I have been very busy with school since I am about to start student teaching soon. I am also taking summer classes, I'm on my third one. :_) So I haven't had much time to myself. I was also stuck on how I wanted to do this since this would be the biggest change from the movie. But I figured it out and I'm very happy with what I did.

So, after some careful consideration, I have decided that Randy will be getting his ninja outfit but slowly. He has to earn it after all. Currently, it's just his mask and scarf. I really like the idea of him earning it.

Anyway, that's for reading and I have a DeviantArt and Tumblr page. Links are on my bio if you want to share any fanart, I would love to see it. See Y'all next time, I can't guarantee an update schedule right now since I'm in a zoology class.
