I own none of the characters in the story. The story is my own twist on the Star Fox universe and may not be accurate or follow the story told in the games. Good, bad? Let me know what you think.
Prelude
Location: Corneria
Time: Before the start of the Star Fox series
"Son, come join me outside for a few minutes while she's preoccupied."
A balcony door opens as two figures stepped out into the chilled air of a wintry Cornerian night.
"This is good weather we are having here. This light snowfall and the piece and quiet out here in the suburbs of the city just feels relaxing. Makes one want to hang up his wings and retire.. haha."
" Um.. why did you pull me outside? I know it wasn't for the weather."
"You remember what I told you when she first brought you home?"
"That you didn't want me within the same city as your daughter, that I was a bad influence and I wouldn't amount to anything but cause her pain?"
The second figure let out a low chuckle.
"Well... yeah. Honestly I may have misjudged you. You are not that bad, still a bad influence don't get me wrong, but you have a good heart, a good head on your shoulders and son, you're a damn good pilot and don't let anyone say otherwise."
The second figure let out a huff as a smirk made its way on his muzzle.
"That brings me to my first request, I want you to join my team."
The second figure sighed.
"Sir, you've asked me this before. I want to make my own name, establish my own team and go where the road leads me."
"Into more trouble with the authorities I'm sure. I don't know know what she sees in you cause I only see a magnet for trouble."
The second figure went to open his mouth only to be silenced by a raised hand.
"Let me finish. I don't know what she sees in you, but I allowed this to go on as in these last two years I've never seen her so happy, not since her mother passed. *sigh* She wants to follow my footsteps and join the team and I wanted you on board because I know you care for her deeply and you won't hesitate to protect her."
"I gave you my word that I would keep her safe and as happy as I could and I stick to my word."
The first figure raised his hand and rested it on the second's shoulder.
"I know you will my boy. But please do this old man one favour. Keep looking out for her, even if the paths you follow pit you against each other. I just want my baby girl to be safe and happy like any other good father. She worries for me, everytime I wear that flight suit and it hurts me to see her become depressed everytime I have to leave. I'm also afraid that a time might come that I won't be walking back in through that door. Promise me that when that time come you will look after her."
The second figure remained silent as he ran the words through his head. He knew she worried over things quite a bit, heck she even fussed over him when he dislocated two fingers on his left hand over a year ago. His mind flashed over the past two years of them spending time together. The walks, dodging traffic on his motorcycle, combat flight simulator matches, the faces she made when she lost to him in the sims or got embarrassed - the last thought bringing a smile to his face. He sighed, here he was the supposed big bad wolf who ruthlessly tore through the flight academy and she had turned him soft.
"I will. I will do my best to keep her safe even if from the shadows."
"Thank you."
Any further conversation was interrupted as the sliding door opend and a feminine figure emerged into the balcony.
"So what's so secretive about this male bonding session between you two that it has to happen out here in the cold?"
"Nothing sweety, daddy was just having a casual talk with your boyfriend, nothing suspicious at all."
The other male figure sighed as he rubbed his palm on his face. Way to make the previous conversation sound not suspicious in the least.
"Is that so?," the female asked.
"Yup, you can ask him yourself. Just talking about what his plans are for the future and when can I can expect a granddaughter. I'm not getting any younger and I need a new baby girls to spoil as this one is all grown up."
"Daaaad! I'm only 18," the young female replied, her ears pressing flat against her head in embarrassment earning chuckles for the two males.
"I'm kidding sweety, besides if he knocked you up I would hope to see a ring on your finger before the pup is born," her father spoke before turning to the second male, "or I'm going to hunt you down and make you regret it now and in the afterlife. Now come on, let's go inside and start with dinner before it gets cold."
With that the three figures walked back into the house, not before the younger male paused to look at the moon as he made a vow to himself.
'I will keep your daughter safe James, Vixy, that is a promise on my own life'.
