The issue that had arisen in the medical wing, hadn't so much as risen, more than it had crashed through the roof. Lying on the floor in the middle of the rubble was a girl, once more, no older than they were. She was as pale as the snow just as the other one they had just met. Her hair was sort of silvery and metallic, giving off a sort of rainbow-like color where ever the light hit it. the dress she was wearing was something of the same vein almost rainbow-like, her feet were adorned with what could only be described, at least by alex as dancing slippers, not too suitable for walking. Feeling her head, she had a lump on it the size of an egg forming on it but upon further examination, there was nothing else wrong with her despite the fact that she had fallen through the ceiling. Madeline had suggested that perhaps it had something to do with the rainbow mover malfunctioning and subsequently exploding for the umpteempth time.
"could that other one you mentioned have had something to do with it?" Elena asked curiously.
"not likely, the rainbow mover has been acting up all morning." Scarecrow said, "if she had something to do with it, I don't think that she would have tried to make us trust her." he added.
Dorothy, however, didn't take to this banter too well. And ordered them to get her into one of the beds. They would have to worry about the rainbow mover later. However, this was about a week prior and the girl still hadn't woken. As dorothy found herself on watch with alex. She sighed as she watched alex make several paper airplanes. They had all agreed to take watch in turns, so that Elena could get some rest, and make arrangements to get the ceiling properly repaired. Sure, none of them save for Glinda and Madeline were trained in healing magics. But as dorothy watched, she began to grow bored, it had been a slow week.
"so, a week, almost, unusual isn't it?" Dorothy asked, "not having something to talk about." She added.
"I know, at least the beast has stayed at bay…but he's interested too." He said looking up at the patched ceiling, "someone, even in oz, surviving a fall like that with minimal injury, that's unusual even by our standards." He said tossing one of the planes over to her.
The scepter pinged, as if in agreement.
"still have to take you to the business district to get the watch fixed." Dorothy said quickly, her gaze falling on the girl again.
she had stirred a bit, her body seemed to be glowing now. Suddenly she bolted up, taking a sharp, deep breath in. it was as if she had been holding her breath for the last several minutes before she had woken. This was not out of the question, but neither of them was sure, nor did they want to ask too many questions. The girl looked around franticly. She searched the room around her looking for something familiar, anything. She got to her feet quite quickly only to stumble and collapse to the floor. Dorothy finally got to her feet and ran over to the girl helping her up.
"where am I?" she finally asked, her voice sounding distressed yet sweet, she looked on the verge of tears.
"emerald city." Alex replied running over.
The girl felt her head, finding the lump, she winced.
"Where?" she asked again.
"emerald city, in oz." Alex said, reiterating and describing better.
The girl staggered to get her balance again going over to the window, looking up at the sky. A few tears rolled down her face as she collapsed again. Her silvery dress and hair seemed to lose their luster and color with her depression. She was far from home, and that was something dorothy was able to relate with. She walked over to her.
"I know how you must be feeling, being as far from home as you are." She said, "I remember my first visit to Oz." She added.
"do you have a name, child?" Glinda asked coming in with Madeline and Elena.
The girl squeezed her eyes shut as dorothy helped her to her feet again and got her sat on the bed.
"she was glowing before she woke." Alex said
"I, can't remember." The girl said becoming rather distressed.
"amnesia." Elena said holding her hand out, "The knock on her head was quite hard, but the bump still hasn't receded, I don't think it was created upon impact." She added.
"Stop with the magic please." The girl said, "it is making me feel sick." She added.
"perfectly natural after what you went through." Madeline said smiling and walking over.
The girl looked from dorothy, to Madeline, and back again. She made the connection quite quickly that the two of them were one in the same. However, shrugging this off, she put herself in front of the girl. Looking her dead in the eyes. a few moments later, she was thrown backward, the girl looking down and holding her head.
"you tried going through her memories?" dorothy asked curiously.
"yes, someone's put a powerful magical block on them, not dark magic mind you, but still powerful, as if the council did it." Madeline said dusting herself off, "I did get something, once she comes 'round, I think we'll have at least a name to go by." She added.
The girl shook her head as if to clear it, blinking a few times she looked up at them.
"Polly." She eventually said.
"that's your name?" Glinda asked.
The girl nodded, saying nothing.
"well that's a start at least." Alex said, "Can you remember anything else?" he added.
The girl thought for a moment, her concern and distress morphing into confusion.
"no." Polly replied shaking her head.
"like I said, it's a very powerful block." Madeline said, a cup of tea appearing in her hand, she offered it to her.
Glinda shook her head and pointed her wand at Polly. After a moment her body became surrounded by what most would describe as a visible aura. Its color changed every few moments. Glinda sighed and shook her head.
"Even beyond us, an immortal did do it, but the questions are which one and why did they do it." Glinda said, her wand vanishing.
"Wrong question." Came the voice of the beast.
Everyone looked at alex, his eyes had turned yellow, but apart from the voice and the eyes that was the only thing that changed.
"what?" Glinda asked curiously.
"the questions who did it or why can be easily speculated, the real question would be, what sent her here and why she wound up here specifically." The beast replied, "Because if you can find that out, you can work backwards from there and use deductive reasoning." He added.
At that moment one the eyes turned back to normal. Alex staggered back, angry.
"I was, Trying, to avoid this." He said struggling
"I know you were." The beast replied, "but Polly, doesn't seem too frightened by us." He said.
It felt awkward, having them both talking, specifically to each other, at the same time, neither were in complete control. That was understood well enough. Polly, however, was quite interested in this, as while it was new to her, it was so far the most interesting thing she had seen.
"Look, go back to sleep for now!" alex shouted
He knew he had to calm himself down, the beast thrived on his anger, stress, and as he recently learned, any moment of distraction that he could take advantage of and burst forth. He hadn't tried to take control and that was something that bothered him. He doubled over, taking several deep breaths as the fire threatened to consume him and release the beast again. However, the sound of chuckling echoed through the room. The same laugh he started whenever he changed. Within a moment the fire had faded, the beast was asleep again. He got back to his feet, held his hand out for the scepter, and turned to dorothy.
"I'm heading to our room." He quickly said before running out.
They all sat there in silence for a moment. Polly was the first to break it.
"what in the name of all that was colorful, was that?" she asked curiously.
"Oddly specific, but that was the beast, Alex's alter ego." Madeline started, "created by a curse, two minds fighting for control of the same body, trying to get them to come to an agreement hasn't been easy, the beast won't hear anyone out." She added.
"except me, and he wont even enter the dreamscape." Dorothy said sighing.
In the last week, she had tried to convince alex to enter the dreamscape with her, so they could talk. But the beast refused so they couldn't.
"he'll come 'round eventually." Madeline said, "or he'll just try to take over, Lurline help him if he does though." She added.
"well, it was rather amusing." Polly replied.
"I'm sure it was, anyways, since you seem to no longer be in a mood, I guess introductions are in order." Madeline said, "this is dorothy gale, perhaps you've heard of her." She added.
Polly nodded, and much to Dorothy's relief, she didn't act like most people did in her presence when they found out who she was.
"your name is whispered over the winds, the girl of two worlds, princess who rules alongside the girl ruler, Ozma of Oz." Polly said.
"and I'm…" Was as far as Glinda got.
"Glinda the good, the reason the winds speak her name." Polly said turning to her.
"I'm sorry?" dorothy asked turning to Glinda.
"Glinda, she has a nice relationship with the wind spirits, if you know how to listen, you can hear them." Elena said, "I thought you were aware of that?" She asked.
"actually, she wasn't, I don't even think she's even heard about it, or if she has, it was only in passing." Madeline said,
"you are the hatter, my memory may be fuzzy, but your name is on the winds as well, in conjunction with her." Polly cut in.
"Madeline, if it pleases." Madeline said smiling.
Polly nodded, trying to get her footing, unable to stand properly she sat back down on the bed.
"What is this?" She asked trying again.
"memory blocks, powerful as yours can sometimes pull stuff with them that weren't intended to go there, you can be retaught proper balance, but if you'll excuse me, I should go arrange for sleeping quarters to be made for you." Glinda said quickly running out.
Dorothy walked over to Polly, sharing a glance with Madeline and Elena. Madeline helped her get Polly to her feet.
"let's get her to the chambers, then you can go catch up with alex." Madeline said
"can we get some food first? I am feeling quite hungry." Polly asked.
