"Viridian City, The City of Evergreen. That seems to be an accurate description. The city that is cloaked in green where the flowers bloom all year round. That is the rumor anyway. Smile Eve, this is our first stop in Kanto!"
An energetic young girl posed with a small Eevee and snapped a photo in front of the Viridian City gym. Enter Melody Alaw, a young trainer from the Johto region. Contrary to the usual path this girl has elected to start her journey in the Kanto region. She looked at the photo and smiled. This journey was definitely going to be the most memorable experience in her life to date.
"Now what is the explorer Melody up to today? Well, I'm glad that you asked. This is the first step in my journey! Today I'll take on the first gym leader in my path. You hear that Eve? We're about to breeze through this." Melody exclaimed in an enthusiastic tone.
The Eevee danced around excitedly, before jumping on Melody's shoulder. Petting her partner, she took a deep breath and stepped towards the building. Butterflies fluttered in her stomach. This was truly where her adventure began. She built up enough force to throw the doors open and run in to declare her challenge. BANG! Wipeout, she ran straight into the door. Melody stumbled back in a daze, shaking her head. That was weird… oh no she hadn't gotten there too late had she? She recovered and pushed the door a couple more times to test it.
"Ooooooh, you can be such an idiot sometimes Melody!" She said, popping herself on the head.
Melody attempted to pull the doors open, only for them to refuse to budge. Oh, it was locked. Well, that was a huge dent in her plans. Melody's titanic struggle with the door did gain the attention of one of the locals though. Coming out of the PokeMart, a young girl with carmine color hair took the scene. Wearing plain clothes and holding a bunch of supplies, she quickly noticed the stranger's struggle with the door. She paused for a moment, contemplating whether or not to approach.
"Um, excuse me? You're a traveler right?" The Carmine-haired girl asked, slowly walking up.
"Yeah, I'm new in town. The name's Melody Alaw! You're the first new person I'm meeting! Well besides Nurse Joy, but they're everywhere, so it doesn't really count."
Melody quickly zipped over to introduce herself. She rapidly threw her hand out in a friendly gesture. Her energy seemed to shock the other girl who paused for a moment before she cautiously took it.
"Well, hi my name is Alana Sky. It's nice to meet you, Melody." Alana said in a quiet voice. "Um, that gym that you're trying to get into has been closed for as long as I can remember. If you want to challenge one you'll need to go north through the forest to get to Pewter City. That's the closest one."
"Ah dang it! Seems we'll have to wait then, Eve. Such a bummer, we were so ready to go." Melody seemed to deflate a bit, before looking at the items in Alana's hands. There was an assortment of Pokeballs, Potions, and other supplies. She quickly perked up and grabbed Alana's shoulders. "You're a trainer too, right? How about we battle? Just to make this meeting even more memorable!"
"Oh, sorry. I'm not a trainer just yet." Alana replies, quickly slipping out of Melody's grasp. "I'm just preparing to start my journey tomorrow."
"You are? That's awesome!" Melody shouted loudly. "An event like that deserves a selfie! C'mon, smile." Melody put her arm around Alana, pulled her close, and snapped a picture. She checked it, and smiled. "Wow, you're pretty photogenic."
"Uh, thanks I guess?" An awkward smile painted itself on Alana's face. She clearly hadn't expected this to happen. "Well, um, I need to get home so bye. It was definitely interesting meeting you."
Alana quickly shuffled away from the waving Melody. She disappeared into a house leaving Melody with her Eevee. The pokemon chittered a bit in her trainer's ear, which she laughed and nodded along.
"Yeah, I'm getting a good vibe from her, too. I hope that we can be good friends. Do you think I came on too strong?"
The Eevee quickly shook its head and jumped down from Melody's shoulder. It ran in a quick circle before looking up to Melody with puppy dog eyes.
"Hey that's cheating, you know I can't say no to you when you do that. We can do a bit of dancing when I figure out what we're going to do." Melody said, kneeling down to pat her partner on the head. Eve briiiiiiid and hopped back onto her shoulder.
With nothing left to do in the city, Melody made her way to the pokemon center. These places were a godsend to the weary traveler. She was pretty amazed that this one offered rooms too. The one back in her home didn't, so it was pretty cool. Flopping on the bed, she turned on the tv, and cycled through the channels before settling on an interview with professor Oak
"So Professor Oak, with your affluent history in the world of battle, what convinced you to switch your focus to studies?" The interviewer asked.
"The world we live in is a mysterious one." Professor Oak replied. "Filled with creatures that have mysterious powers. These creatures, called Pokemon, are miracles that live among us. Despite us living in harmony with them, we still know little about them. I felt that my passion was guiding me to search for those answers instead of being the very best that no one ever was."
"Hey Eve! I know what we should do! We should visit professor Oak's lab! Mom would be so excited if we told her that!" Eevee seemed to agree which received a little twirl from Melody. "Then it's decided! That's our new first goal on our grand adventure!"
Melody flipped off the TV and hopped out of bed. She scrolled through her phone and picked out a song. Digging in her backpack, she grabbed a small speaker and set it on the desk in the room. Eve quickly jumped to the floor eager to dance along with her partner. The song slowly filled the room with the sounds of bells and flutes. Melody slowly performed a dance to the song synchronizing her movements with Eve's. They carried on for several minutes before the song came to an end. Plopping back on the bed Melody smiled deeply.
"I have a feeling that this is going to be fun Eve! Tomorrow we take our first step in our adventure." Melody said, pumping her fist to the ceiling.
