It's been oh so long but I've finally been able to hammer this one out. I'm really not cut out for long chapter stories because it's so much work. Anyway only one more chapter after this (Which will be quite short). I hope everyone has enjoyed this ride. let me know what you want to see in a review!
Day Four: Period
"Kirijo-san?" Naoto asked tiredly into her head as the trio walked as a group looking for the nearest exit, a small window with Rise floating behind them staying quiet, giving the occasional direction when they needed to turn. The three was mostly silent within their walk, due to how much they pushed themselves; keeping any leftover saved energy just for walking the distance to find a safe spot to head back to a point of entry without alerting the whole of the Tokyo population. Considering the destruction they left in their wake, Shinjuku station area was a complete no go. The resulting battle left the area no better than scorched earth, any possible trips through any portals was not happening due to them being blown to pieces. Not like Naoto minded to the walk back, it allowed her brain to process everything that has happened in the past couple hours and what it meant for her and her precious Souji-kun.
There was a moment of static before Mitsuru's voice cut through it.
"Shirogane-san, happy to hear you are still ok, what's the situation?" Naoto exhaled something she'd held in for quite a bit.
"I manage to destroy whatever it was that attacked us, and successfully retrieved Souji-kun." She heard a gasp on the other side of the line.
"Couldn't be, you've done it? All by yourself?" Even though she couldn't see her, Naoto still subconsciously shook her head.
"No I didn't Margaret is still here with me and I was also aided by Elizabeth as well too."
There was a slight pause.
"Elizabeth? When did she arrive?"
The Sleuth could tell by the surprise that Elizabeth is one of the last people she expected to appear.
"She saved us, if it wasn't for her, we probably wouldn't be standing here right now. Either way we'll be returning back shortly. We have one minor problem though."
"What's that?"
"We need a safe place to re-enter but we are moving towards Ueno since the enemy destroyed Shinjuku Station in this world so we are making our way back. We might need you to lock down the area so we can get back safely, is that possible?"
Mitsuru took a moment speaking to a couple people that were with her on her side. Due to the other chatter and Mitsuru keeping her voice low she wasn't able to hear what was being discussed.
"Yes, just let me know where you are likely to come out and we'll be able to lock down the area in about 20 minutes. I'm assuming you won't need long?"
"I don't need long at all, I just need a set of new clothes because mine is a mess, either that or you can get me to my room in secrecy."
"Both of those sound more than possible, I'll see what one is more readily available and get back to you soon. Is that good enough?
"Yes, I can work with that. I'll let you know where we'll be once we get a warp point to get back, shouldn't be too long." She heard Mitsuru hum in agreement.
"Good, contact me when you are there."
Turning back to her party,
"Mitsuru will plan to retrieve us when we get to the other side; thankfully it's within the realm of her power to be able to lock down an area as long as it isn't too busy. It should be the best way of us getting back, however..." She looked at the two attendants for a moment, "I'm not sure what the two of you will decide to do once we head back."
Margaret only shook her head.
"I plan to accompany you back to where you are taking my guest just to monitor him while he recovers, I'll try not to intrude on you at all because I know how worried you are about him..."
Turning to her member of family,
"What about you Sister?"
Elizabeth shrugged, not entirely bothered about what was going on.
"I guess it's a good time to check in with my previous guest's teammates and all. I'm sure they don't understand why I'm here and what has happened. While I can't give them all the information because well I'm not the two of you, it would be a good time to 'touch base' as they say. Really I have no other stake in this other than that, I came for answers and I got them so mission accomplished I guess?"
The elder sister giggled, one arm still carefully holding Souji over her shoulder.
"Now that you mention your guest, I was wondering how has your journey been to free him? It's rude of me not to ask since we were busy before but I think now is a good time."
Elizabeth showed a soft yet downcast smile.
"It's been one full of information, I've learnt a lot on my travels but I haven't found anything to aid my cause unfortunately, there is a lot of dead ends and not much else to go on. I haven't lost faith but its a little disheartening knowing how difficult of a problem it is and finding a solution suitable enough to forward my goals."
Margaret frowned with her, annoyed at how she was unable to help her sister and how it frustrated her knowing as she carried her guest on her shoulder.
"If there is anything I can do to help dear Sister please let me know." Elizabeth nodded, perking up at the reach of her own flesh and blood.
"Thank you, I appreciate it."
"Speaking of this subject..." Naoto interrupted while continuing to walk ahead, not turning around. "Kirijo-san has had multiple investigations done on the seal and what can be done to help get Arisato-san back. Like yourself they haven't come to anything conclusive on what they can do but maybe speaking to her will find some results you were not able to get on your own. Different perspectives coming together can help find a solution together. Just from this experience alone has taught me that."
It made Elizabeth look down in though as she considered the Sleuth's words. Working together for a common goal wasn't something that was farfetched. IF anything she'd seen a world shifting example of it just 20 minutes prior where they were able to make a god fall by their hand who was not shackled by the limitations of man. Thinking about it this way put the whole thing into perspective for her.
"I guess you are right."
"Kirijo-san gave me a multitude of documents about the seal and what can be done about it and while a majority of it at the moment I do not understand, I'm sure with some time there is something in there that you can use to further your plans. I at least owe you that much for saving my life earlier."
The former attendant nodded, seemingly taking to heart what Naoto had to say. A warm but slightly coy look graced her lips.
"That's a rather quick way to pay your debts."
Naoto shook her head; her own grin was something that Souji was fond of doing. Margaret seeing Naoto do it made her smile in pleasure, knowing how much her Fool and Fortune have rubbed off on each other.
"I don't like keeping them. It plays on my mind too much, and one as big as yours will probably stop me from going to bed tonight. So if you need anything to help save your loved one then I'm more than happy to give my assistance. I'm sure once Souji-kun is up he would be willing to as well, since he's the real Wild Card user of the two of us."
Elizabeth blushed at the mention of loved one. While she knew that she'd already accepted her feelings on the matter, someone saying it out loud always made her flustered. The fact that everyone was aware of it made her uncomfortable.
"Thank you Shirogane," Naoto just waved her hand away dismissively seeing nothing of it. From there the group continued to walk in silence, with the moonlight illuminating their walk way. The shadows from before now returned to their idle formation, their whispers considerably quieter than before as the incessant chatter from when Naoto entered being a lot lower with the biggest threat to the area now dealt with. It was more noticeable as they walked through the smaller walk ways of Okachimatchi area with the tighter streets. However with the darkness, the soft breeze radiating from Naoto was comforting as even in the dark claustrophobic roads making them aware that they were safe. It was another 15 minutes until the small screen with Rise in it started to perk up.
"I think I've found a place but I'm not sure how viable it would be for you to get to the other side without alerting everyone. Maybe you should speak to Kijiro-san about helping you on the other side; she should be pretty close by from what I can feel."
Glancing at the small hovering monitor, Naoto's face twisted in thought as she looked on slightly bemused.
"Where is this exit point?"
Rise shrugged; a flash of disappointment before perking up to hide it.
"There is a Taito Station nearby and I can sense a way back through there on the second floor. The issue is that there is a lot of chatter and interference there so I'm assuming it's pretty busy on the other side because of that. It might be necessary to get Kirijo-san to clear the place out before you go back. It would make the most sense anyway..."
Naoto looked up at the building coming up to her left curiously; an arcade was a perfect place to have some sort of portal back considering how many screens were there. It was a bit of an obvious one the more she thought about it.
"Sounds like a reasonable logic, but you are right, it could be possible that it's really busy so we won't be able to pass through without causing a scene. Even if we were able to get through without anyone seeing we'll be spotted as soon as we got outside. We are not exactly the most subtle of people at the moment." Naoto concluded, pulling at the shredded clothes hanging off her. There was a swift nod from both Margaret and Elizabeth agreeing with the current situation.
"You are correct, not only that, me and my Sister both stand out considerably. It will look bizarre instantly." Giving a quick glance at her Sister, "It might be wise to drop you off at the exit point and use this world to meet you back at Souji's apartment."
Naoto only tilted her head in a response, quickly trying to put an idea together.
"That makes sense but I'm sure Kirijo-san has a car ready to transport us all in. As long as I can get changed in there and no one noticed us get in then it shouldn't be a problem for us really. One thing Kirijo-san is good at is blanketing a situation in secrecy. I have complete faith in her trying to handle this. The only thing I'm worried about is clothes that might fit me in all honesty..."
The words caused Margaret to giggle but her younger sister only sighed.
"How much longer until we get to the exit, I think all the adrenaline has worn off already, wouldn't mind taking a nap."
"Another five minutes towards those set of buildings, the Taito station you need is within there. Just mind your step, the ground is a little unsteady due to the fighting from before."
Rise's interjection made Naoto feel a little better about the situation. She couldn't deny that the rush from the battle before has gone, washed over her was underlying exhaustion of her body being home to a divine spirit for so long and exerting so much spiritual energy. That and the constant chatter in her mind with the different Personas conversing didn't really give herself much time to think. She shuddered to think what it must have been like for Souji throughout the year. If this was the price for power, she would gladly give this back to Souji...
"Ah I see it!" Elizabeth called as she her feet picked up the pace to head towards the exit. A gentle smile and a shake of the head Margaret followed her, keeping a tighter hold of Souji's still limp body that she carried over her shoulder.
"We should be quick Fortune; Elizabeth can be quite hard to catch once she's out of sight."
Pondering the attendant's words for a second...
"About that... Margaret, There was something I wanted to ask you."
Margaret kept her pace, forcing Naoto to increase in speed but she threw a look over her shoulder, signalling her to continue.
"I was wondering if you could just call me Naoto. I know you are being polite but considering what we've been through I think a first name basis will be fitting, using the name of my Arcana makes us seem really distant. Unless you are comfortable with that of course." The soft smile of the keeper of the compendium only grew brighter.
"Of course Naoto, considering what Souji thinks, he would have admonished me by now for my over-politeness. "
"I'm glad, sorry for burdening you with my troubles."
All Margaret could do was roll her eyes. Souji was right about her.
"I'm sure our fool wouldn't have had it any other way. He would say 'don't go it alone' or 'Support each other anyway you can'. I think he would be happy for you to have helped to make sure nothing catastrophic happened in his stead."
"I told you that's why you shouldn't worry."
The smug voice of Izanami was heard over the rest in her mind. Her tone only made Naoto scoff. Knowing she didn't have a response.
"Thanks for that."
"Anytime young one."
"Yeah you are right Margaret, I hope he wakes up soon, I think he will be happy to see us when he comes too."
She matched the attendant's smile with one of her own.
"I think the saying in your world is that he'll be 'Over the moon'?"
"Spot on,"
...
...
Heaving the large glass door out of the way, Elizabeth stepped inside the abandoned arcade. The countless screens flickering as they generated an access to Naoto's home world, only coming on line due to their current proximity.
"Here we are, I can hear the chatter of the souls from the other side loud and clear. It's quite surreal that this place is where the barriers between the two worlds are at its thinnest. What do you think Sis?"
Margaret carefully stepped over the loose rubble before wincing at the noise in the hall they were in.
"You are right; all things considered I could do without the noise."
Naoto nodded as she came up behind the two.
"You're right, I'll let Kirijo-san know we are here so she can prepare for us to finally get out of her and get to the other side. As much as I love everyone's company here I wouldn't mind being back home."
"Yeah I can imagine being in here for so long can really mess with your senses..."
Adjusting her grip on Souji, Margaret gave am affirmative hum.
"I think for Souji and Naoto's sake we should quicken this up. While I don't think there is any adverse effects in the short term, dallying around could make things worse."
"Right, let me get Kirijo-san on the line..." Placing her fingers next to her ear, it activating the ear bud that was tucked away, making it beep for a couple seconds before a formal voice on the other end responded.
"Shirogane-san?"
Mitsuru's polite but firm voice was on the other end, the underlying tone of relief was evident in the call.
"Yes it's me, we are currently in the Taito Station in Okatchimatchi now, are you standing by?"
In the background could hear the sound of people being rushed out and moved.
"Yeah we are just making sure the area is clear. I've used Kirijo Corperation to leverage a minor hold of the building so I can get you out. While it should only cause a minor ruffle with the media I should be able to get you out without people knowing you are involved."
The ace detective shot the two former attendants a grin.
"Excellent, where should we come through to get back?"
"Head to the top floor and use the large House of the Dead 4 machine to get back. It should be big enough to fit anyone through relatively safely, plus upstairs is already secured."
Turning to her two companions,
"Let's head upstairs, apparently everything is all done so we can get Souji home."
Margaret had a face of focus, her ears picking up the changes of the other world.
"They are doing a good job of moving everyone because the voices are starting to dissipate. We should get going."
Naoto turned to the floating screen where Rise was watching from.
"We'll part here but I'll text you as soon as I'm at Souji's apartment."
The smile made of nothing but sunshine and roses shot back at her, incredibly happy at what she's seen.
"Definitely, good luck and I hope to see you back really soon."
"Thanks again Rise-chan."
With that the screen disappeared, turning Naoto's attention to the stairs.
The two gave a nod as they aimed to ascend the stairs.
...
...
Naoto took a massive deep breath as she felt herself back in the world of the living. It took a moment for her body to recognise the terra firma she was standing on but after a small wheeze she got her bearings. Before she could say anything a large blanket was placed over her, covering her dignity from prying eyes.
"Kirijo-san?"
The Sleuth looked up, seeing the redhead with a gentle smile and small flask of what she could tell was coffee by the smell.
"I thought you would need this..." She said as she reached out with it, offering it as some reprieve. "You deserve a hell of a lot more too but I don't think it's something was cover here and now. Take five minutes to get to your feet, the operatives and Margaret is going to get Souji into the car carefully so we can take him to his apartment."
The Sleuth nodded slowly as she took the Kirijo Group CEO's offer thankfully. Sitting up on her knees she noticed Elizabeth and someone else who she was unfamiliar with. Looking up, the detective was met with the smiling face of Marie, one of the people who kick-started this rescue mission. Before saying anything, Naoto promptly took a quick draft of coffee, feeling the warmth spread through her body.
"That hits the spot..." She wheezed, finally able to let her mind relax after a tough couple days.
"You can rest easy Naoto-kun; you saved the idiot and the rest of us from that thing." The Detective could hear the distain in her voice towards the end. Whatever god they just fought, the Izanami side of her still possessed the hatred still at this juncture. Shaking her head, Naoto took another mouthful of coffee before gulping it down.
"Like it was just me, if it wasn't for everyone else, I wouldn't have come even close to finding out what was going on. If it wasn't for everyone's help Souji-kun would be dead and who knows what would happen with what she was after..."
The sigh coming from the CEO was enough to shake Naoto out of her thoughts as she looked up. The small smile from the redhead was enough to quell the worst case scenario.
"You may say that but those times are now behind us, regardless of how recent it was. Come on, we have some clothes for you in the limo; you can change in there if it doesn't bother you. But we can't get you to his apartment looking like that."
With a swift nod, Naoto took the hand Mitsuru was offering and allowed herself to be pulled up. Now that she was out of the shadow world, her body was racked with exhaustion. With a spring in her step Marie with Souji's sword in hand joined them as they walked past the suited men of the Kirijo group standing guard to stop anyone of the general public from seeing what's going on.
The car ride back to Souji's apartment was quiet outside the ruffling of Naoto's change of clothes. Other than Mitsuru who was in deep but hushed conversations with Elizabeth, the other ladies had their eyes glued on Souji's prone form. The rise and fall of his chest was the only thing giving the others piece of mind.
The operation to get Souji back into his apartment was elaborate, Mitsuru already had members from her office to his house to clean up the best they could, tidying away the rubble, damaged furniture and the scorch marks of the previous battle. Naoto looked in at awe at the newly decorated place, in the back of her mind she was worried that once her boyfriend woke up; it would be a hefty task of getting things back in order again.
"As your orders Kirijo-sama, we have successfully changed the room to its former state as much as possible. Sorry we couldn't do more."
Mitsuru's soft smirk told the story. She made sure to send operatives in advance to make sure the place looked presentable, police were already crawling over this story with the break in, the last thing she needed is them interrogating Souji later on while his place looks suspicious.
"Err- Naoto, I'll place Souji on his bed where he can rest. Would you like to come too?"
Margaret's voice was enough to catch the Sleuth's attention. The taller woman still comfortably had Souji over her shoulder. Being in the real world made no changes to her physical strength she had over anyone else she knew. Naoto nodded, turning Margaret's concern look to a small smile. Pushing the bedroom door open with her free hand, the formally ransacked room was now tidy as the rest of the apartment. His belongings now put away in the cabinet and draws. The previously messy desk was now in a neat pile. The sight reminded her to return Souji's passport as soon as she was able too.
Gently the attendant of the velvet room placed the Wild Card user on the bed where he sunk into it lifelessly. The gentle breathing was enough to clue Naoto in on his condition.
"I'm still worried for him..."
Naoto's words came out without thinking but Margaret could only nod in agreement.
"I would be lying if I didn't feel the same way. I've never seen this before so I'm not sure how this goes..."
Silence descended in the room until the creek of the door alerted to the two to a third person. Stepping through, Marie poked her head in slowly, concerned she was interrupting something.
"Is everything ok in here?"
She only got nodding as a reply. The frown quickly covered her features as she walked in proper. Closing the door gently not to alert the multiple other people in the apartment that she came in and interrupted the three.
"Worried about this blockhead?"
Again, another set of nods. She sighed lightly, sensing how worried they were about the current situation. Marie walked further into the room until she was standing next to the bed in between the two of them and Souji.
"This is against my better judgement, but would you like to see how far he is progressing?"
Just like that the two's expression shot up at her suggestion. Their reply in agree to her suggestion was instant excitement. All it made Marie do was sigh again, she couldn't blame them though, she herself would be in the same situation if she didn't have such divine powers. Taking a step closer to Souji, she placed her palm against his forehead gently. The goddess took a deep breath in, his ethereal flow and warmth passing to her was enough for her to bask in his spiritual energy. It took her second to get her senses back as she shook the haze from her mind. Looking on at the other two ladies in the room, they sported a pair of knowing grins at what just happened. Marie blushed furiously.
"S-Stop... I forgot it feels good..."
The two accused ladies broke into a fit of giggles forcing the personification of Izanami to scoff and turn away.
"Do you want this or not?"
The two started to stop, bringing their laughter to an end not wanting to lose the opportunity to see how their loved one is progressing.
"Sorry Sorry, we kind of know that expression." Naoto apologise, the shadow of humour still showing on her face.
"Yes, it's been a while since I've seen you carry such an expression with our fool." Margaret added.
The sigh of exasperation was to signal to the two they should just get on with it all. Shaking her head,
"Would you two take my hand then close your eyes."
The pair gently took Marie's hand in theirs as they felt the flow of spiritual energy pass through them. As soon as they closed their eyes a bright light flashed in their minds as they felt their minds and souls move from their body...
...
The surroundings were dark but the only thing that lit up the space that they were in was the various screens with a multitude of his memories as they shuffled amongst each other, trying to find a natural order. Souji didn't know how long he was here but to him it felt like an eternity.
"Young one, you should let your mind relax. Staring at this won't make things move any faster."
An adult size Izanami stood behind him as he looked on carefully. While his expression was hidden away by his mask, his eyes showed the same concern as before.
"I know but I really want to get back on my feet. I feel like I've been out for too long."
Izanagi only shook his head.
"I understand your plight young one but everything is in good hands."
The downcast exhale was enough to feel Souji was giving up the argument. He was about to put his hand on his shoulder when they both felt the presence of someone new entering the current space. The two turned around in shock as they saw three people warp in a pillar of bright light. In the warm glow stood the trio of Izanami, Naoto and Margaret, causing Souji's eyes to grow wide.
"Na-Naoto!" He called in disbelief.
Instantly Naoto broke her grip from Izanami and Margaret, sprinting towards him before enveloping him in a hug that almost knocked him to the ground.
"Souji!"
Her eyes instantly spilled tears as Souji only held her tighter against him. "I-..."
"I missed you so much! Please be ok..."
She pleaded into his chest, words broken by sobs.
"I'm here Naoto..." Souji said quietly, his own tears threatening to fall. Looking on, Margaret could only let go of the breath she had been holding for a while at seeing the two finally come together. Even though it's only been a couple days, this whole event has felt like months.
"Don't worry..." The secretary turned her head to the deity, the look on her face in interest about what she was talking about.
"...You'll get your turn. I promise."
All she could do was blush over fiercely.
"I shouldn't impede, she saved his live after all."
Izanami only shook her head, a gentle but sly smile played on her expression.
"Margaret!?" Looking up at the call of the attendant' name her golden eyes turned to see Souji's warm smile with his arms extended waiting for an embrace. Looking at Naoto, who returned back a small smile and a nod of permission, Margaret ran at her former guest smothering him with an embrace that almost knocked the breath out of him.
"You Fool!" She cried into his chest, her own tears falling down unceremoniously. After spending so long keeping her emotions in check they finally broke away as she sobbed against him.
"Do you now know how risky what you did was!?" She balled, holding him tighter, only relaxing as his arms closed around her.
"I'm sorry, I'm really glad I had you watching over me..." His words were soft but sincere. "I know it was you keeping me safe in the TV world when I had no senses. I know you manipulated things around me to guide me. I may not have my sense of self but there was something left, traces of whatever was left that resonated with the world me I knew it was you and later Naoto doing everything you could to bring me back. Sorry I threw you in the deep end at the start. I made the split decision and ended up putting everyone in danger."
She heard him sigh as his embrace tightened.
"I should be the one that's sorry." His words soft yet sincere,
"You better be! There won't be a next time, just remember that."
"I understand. I'll be more careful from now on." Pulling away, she looked up at him and seeing those eyes full of guilt and sadness at the pain he put others through was enough for her anger to melt away. Shaking the tears from her eyes, the attendant took his hands in her own.
"Please do, but your decision probably bought us enough time to figure it out what was going on and stop it. I just..."
Turning away just to regain her composure.
"I just don't want you to end up like my Sister's guest. And you came to the brink of that, my soul would never be able to rest easy if that ever happened to you. Especially after seeing it happen the first time, I'm supposed to learn from other people's mistake rather than allow them to happen again." Margaret took a deep breath. "I swear on my existence that you will not meet the same fate."
"I agree with Margaret..." The Sleuth stepping back into his vision, "It was a massive gamble but please refrain from making any other decisions like that unless you inform us first."
"I promise, sorry it's been a stressful time for you two." Both ladies nodded, feeling that they both made their point.
"Marie! Marie!"
"Ah I'm sorry ladies but we have to cut this reunion short, we are being called by the outside world." Izanami informed with a small frown on her face.
"Ah I forgot my apologies Izanami." Margaret said quickly, with Naoto doing the same but bowing as well.
"It's not your fault but I think Kirijo-san needs something." Izanami turned to Souji. "I'm sorry we have to cut this, we will speak more once you are ready and able too." Souji nodded, knowing anything else would not be a good answer.
Turning to her husband, she gave his hand a gentle squeeze.
"My love I'll see you shortly." His nod was curt but enough to bring a smile to the goddess' face. Looking around at everyone else, she made a click of the fingers, breaking the mental connection the ladies had with Souji.
...
...
The fuzziness of the mental trip back was hard to shake off as she blinked, taking in the fact she back in her own physical body. Looking at Margaret and Marie, they seemed to be completely unperturbed by the trip they just made, almost like it was normal to them.
"What are you guys up too?"
It was Mitsuru's voice that dragged them out of the mental space as they all looked on at her, hands still joined together.
"We just went to see how the idiot is doing, it seems he would recover fine, these two here were very insistent. They couldn't shut up about it."
"I'm not like that!"
"I do have patience..."
Mitsuru could only chuckle heartedly at the exchange. But cleared her throat now that her primary purpose of being in Tokyo was over.
"Well while I'm happy everyone is in good spirits, I think for me personally the objective of why I'm here is now complete. While there are a couple things that need cleaning up, I'm sure Shirogane-san is more than capable enough to tie up any of the loose ends."
Naoto nodded, in her mind highly appreciative of the CEO in front of her. Knowing without her resources this case would have gone nowhere fast. Bowing deeply,
"I want to thank you again for your Help Kirijo-san. If it wasn't for your assistance the outcome would have been different."
The red haired CEO scoffed, brushing aside the comment.
"Maybe but at the end of the day it's not like I didn't have a reason to be here. Something threatens the fabric of our timeline, of our world and tries to use a love one's sacrifice as a tool for war, I would have come every single time if need be. This was just as important to me as it was to you Shirogane-san. It can be debated that you had more to lose however." Peering at the three ladies standing by the bed, "Seeing so many people caring for the young man gives me hope that he will live a long life, hopefully he wouldn't have to make the same choices he's predecessor took. Not going to argue however, he came close..."
The three women looked down at Souji solemnly for a moment before Naoto looked up, a new bright resolve in her face.
"I promised him I'll look after him, I'll be there for him, and I'll care for him. So that's what I plan to do. I won't allow him to walk his path alone, all three of us here can agree to that."
The small smile that Mitsuru had on her face was an enough of a signal to show that they impressed her.
"Maybe there is hope for him after all. Please cherish him, don't make the same mistake we did."
"Also Shirogane-san, I'm assuming you will be staying here for the time being to keep an eye on Seta-san right?" Naoto nodded, suddenly remembering the time.
"Crap you are right, I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it back before the last-"
Mitsuru's raise of the hand stopped her in her tracks.
"I'll give you a lift there and back. It's already been a long day, I don't need you getting around Tokyo this late and I can see how tired you are. As long as Marie-san and Margaret can keep an eye on Seta-san until you come back then we should be fine."
Turning to the two other ladies in the room, Marie's gentle wave and Margaret's serene smile was enough to reassure Naoto.
"Yes we can do that, shall we go now so we can be back quickly."
"Mmm, lets..."
..
..
By the time she was back, employees from the Kirijo Group were already gone, the only people in the apartment was Marie and Margaret both seemingly nursing a cup of tea each. Their bright smile as she walked through the door with her suitcase was enough to make her feel like she arrived home.
"How is he?" She asked, not even starting with the greetings.
"He's progressing well; hopefully he will wake up soon. We were just waiting for you to get back before we departed. With everything that's happened I'm shattered." Marie pointed out as she slumped back on the sofa.
Margaret could only giggle before turning back to the Sleuth.
"I must admit even I am quite tired, it's been years since I've experienced this feeling. Last time this was when your team gave me a run for my money as they say in the realm of the living." The Sleuth chuckled nervously as she shifted her suitcase to lean against the wall before joining the others in the living area.
"Yeah I hope we never have to do that again."
Margaret gave a small playful pout.
"Really? It was very fun, I've not felt so myself in so long."
The detective sighed as she collapsed on the adjacent sofa to the other two in the room.
"We were in pretty bad shape after the fact. Poor Souji-kun was in pain for about a week. He didn't tell us about it until I caught him limping a few days later."
Marie's incredulous look she shot at the attendant was worth a thousand words but all that came out was,
"What did you do?"
The look Margaret gave her was one of pride as she elaborated on why what she did was so important and how she tested the resolve of the party. Due to Souji having so much resolve she made it her goal to beat it out of him until he couldn't get up anymore. What Margaret was happy to find out that day was that they could give as much as they could take and eventually beat her and the challenge she issued.
"Man you may have felt good in defeat but we felt terrible in victory, not a fight we would ever do again."
All Margaret could do was laugh. "Maybe a friendly spar next time is in order, less on the line. Saying that I'm sure it will be better than before considering your power now."
Naoto scoffed,
"No thanks, I'm giving these back to Souji-kun as soon as I'm able too. I'm not sure how he's able to live with the constant chatter in his head."
Marie turned to Naoto,
"Even though I do need to head back to Inaba soon, I and Margaret can stay with you overnight to see if Souji wakes. If he does then we can do the transfer of powers back and we can be on our way." Pointing to the new TV the Kirijo Group installed, "We can use that just to travel back quickly."
Something about that made Naoto feel a lot better. There was something about being in the same apartment that Souji was attacked in last time, it's something that sent her paranoia into overdrive especially with the newly fitted TV. She knew deep down it was ok but still.
"The company will make me feel better I'll be honest. I'm still a bit weary of someone coming out and attacking us. Considering how sudden this recent situation became I must admit I'm on edge."
Both Marie and Margaret gave her sympathetic looks; understand how nervous she must feel with everything transpiring over four days. Nodding together, seemingly all coming to an agreement, Naoto let go of the breath she had been holding.
"Excellent," The Sleuth clapped her hands together, somewhat giddy that she would be spending the night with a couple people. Deep down the past couple days have felt really lonely. "Should we get ready for bed? It's quite late."
Wearily Margaret nodded with Marie following it up with a large yawn of her own. Strange seeing a goddess actually is tired.
"Sounds good, we can crash on the sofas."
Naoto hummed to Marie's suggestion, in her mind however she was still sad she couldn't share a bed with her boyfriend, it had been so long since she has had his warmth overnight.
"Yes, makes sense, we can give Souji his time to recover on his own and not disturb him." Lifting herself out of the rather comfortable seat she was in, "I'm going to go have a bath then change, I hope you don't mind me going first?"
"Go ahead,"
"Please proceed,"
...
?
"I hope my fool hasn't had any trouble..." Margaret told herself as she approached his door. She had the sudden was unease as she reached for the knocker on his door. Something about the whole situation was wrong and she couldn't hold out any longer. She thought about coming through the TV but she knew whatever it was that was causing trouble was taking refuge there and she didn't want to alert it that she knew it's plan. Not yet, Souji was her first priority.
Slamming the door knocker against the surface she heard the ruffle of movements before a muted.
"Coming!"
It took a moment before the latch came undone and the door was pulled open. Margaret looked on as she saw his face go from uninterested to complete shock.
"H-Hey..." He hesitantly gave the secretary a looked her up and down to make sure it's the real deal. "What are you doing here?"
His raised eye brow was enough to clue her in on how much he knew right now, she didn't have much time to explain.
"I'm sorry to invade your space in this realm young fool but something of urgency," Something within her being sensed what was coming. And with reflex born from her unearthly power she moved quickly as she pushed Souji out the way with such force he skidded to the floor. Where he was in his place was a set of ethereal blades embedded themselves into the wall, all lethal enough to mutilate whatever unfortunate enough to find its target.
"T-The hell..." Souji muttered as he scrambled to get up, but as he was recovering Margaret was already towering over him as a third being lunged at his prone body. Compendium in hand she forced the figure back before picking up stance. This allowed Souji to flip back up on to his feet as he steadied himself.
At the sudden stalemate in the room there was silence. As the attendant and her guest looked towards the newly arrived being in the room, Souji's eyes widened as Margaret's face twisted in disgust. The sound of the leather warping ever so slightly in a tightened grip was the only thing in the room before Souji spoke up.
"A-Arisato-san?"
It was a name he hadn't spoken of in a year. Not since his untimely meet up with the Shadow Operatives during the Grand Prix incident. Mitsuru, Elizabeth and Aegis spoke about him at length and at some point during his trip to the sea of souls he might have even connected with him there but as far as he's concerned he was still in the seal unless...
"Not quite, but close enough..."
That voice didn't match the face at all was something that clicked in Souji's mind. Why would he sound like a-
"Watch out!" Margaret called as she moved to block as Souji didn't think twice as he dodged to his left before vaulting over his sofa, or at least he tried to before he was pulled back by his shirt and forced back down in the opposite direction as he hit the ground hard.
"Gyah!" he cried out in pain. His mind reeled at just how quickly this was going to shit.
"You have limited powers here bitch, stop trying to resist!" Souji pulled himself up knowing he was bare handed and whatever he was fighting was doing things that here he wasn't capable of himself. That alone changed this complexion of this battle. He needed to think of something fast before he found himself dead.
"Leave my Fool alone!" Margaret bellowed as an energy infused dagger collided with her compendium. Tensing, the silver haired strategist felt her knees buckle from under her but her golden eyes glowed brighter in fury, the pressure and the weight becoming a problem in this encounter, the strength difference now obvious to everyone.
"Go my Fool, you can't be here!" Her words snapped something in his mind as he took off heading to his room again, needing to get to his weapon so he could at least help defend himself and assist Margaret.
Just as quickly the seemingly Minato moved like lightening as he took off towards the running Souji before grabbing him around the neck with his arm, almost choking him out instantly.
"I said no." With unworldly strength, Souji was tossed like a sack of potatoes as flew in to the adjacent wall. With a sickening thud he hit the wall before crashing through the table underneath as his body lay limp from the forceful impact.
"SOUJI!" Margaret cried as she charged another interception as the doppelganger flew at Souji body on the floor, she braced herself as it bounced back from the blow. Whatever it was its previously large smile now contained a small frown.
"If you value your life, you would leave now. Don't interfere." The Attendant held steadfast as her eyes narrowed, but before she could even react her enemy was instantly in her face before grabbing her by the throat.
A gasp of surprise left her lips before she cried out in pain as this clone started to squeeze.
"I would have happily let you live but since you had to make this harder than it needs to be then I'll just get you out of the way now." The eyes that stared into hers went wide with glee as she felt his muscle start to tense.
"Now watch me pop-" He was cut short as he was shoulder checked in the side instantly dropping Igor's eldest assistant. She took a moment to get her breath back as she wheezed loudly, happy that her ability to breathe returned. She raised herself to one knee before she heard another thump as something else collided with the floor. Turning quickly she saw Souji on his back as her enemy now had his hands coiled around his neck instead.
"You idiot, you had your chance to run but you picked your pathetic assistant instead of your own life. You are not cut out to hold the power you wield." With those words the two fighting for their lives suddenly knew what the motive was. Souji in his struggle started to notice that this being's hands started to glow purple as he could sense the threads of his soul slowly start to be pulled apart. He groaned and struggled under the weight as his legs thrashed uncontrollably.
"Get off of him!" Screamed the attendant but she was thrown back by a powerful energy blast, her saving grace was that her landing was cushioned by the sofa she was knocked into.
Lifting Souji up,
"This is it, once your power is mine then I can't be stopped. Once I'm done with you, I'll kill you then your side woman, and then with your memories, your image, I'll be after everyone you love before finally putting this planet under my heel. No one will suspect the man that seeks the truth will be the one that will bring the end of the world."
In a moment of clarity Souji stopped, and closed his eyes. His brain going into overdrive trying to think of a solution. The biggest priority right now is that this thing was a threat to literally everything and if he gains the wild card powers, it could cause the end to everything he knew and beyond. Diving as far back as he could in his time within the sea of souls, he pictured his key, the original one needed to enter the velvet room and tried to wish it real, feeding as much spiritual energy as possible to counter balance the persistent erosion of his mind.
In the realm of the living Margaret groggily pulled herself up from the debris of the sofa using the compendium to support herself, a bright blue light taking her attention. Looking on, her mouth agape in shock as the azure hue from Souji started to glow brightly. The consequence of this was the purple aura around their enemy's hand started to fade and flicker as whatever absorption ability he was using started to weaken. The other thing she noticed was that the thing's face started to take more and more of Souji's facial features and appearance.
"What on earth do you think you are doing?" It shouted as he shook Souji, his body lifeless in his hands. However Souji's expression didn't change, a serene look of concentration before the azure glow coming from his body transferred to his hand as a physical form of a key formed within it. His attacker looked on at horror at what had just transpired as Souji's eyes started to lose their colour and the gentle warmth from his body began to fade. With all of the power he could muster he threw the key across the room towards Margaret Just about making it to her as she caught it carefully with both hands.
"Damn it!" It shouted as he threw Souji to the side, his body stumbling back as it lunged at Margaret, but she saw it coming as her eyes zeroed in on Souji noting where he was falling back to. Taking an executive decision on what needed to be done, Margaret ducked the incoming lunge from their attacker and grabbed Souji by the waist and...
!
"Ahhhh!" Naoto shot up from her make shift bed on the sofa breathing heavily, unsure where she was for the moment. She searched around at the room she was in, mostly darkness surrounding them as she looked on, Marie's gentle snoring and Margaret's soft breathing the only thing in the room making any noise. Naoto rubbed her eyes just to get her bearing, from the incredibly vivid dream. Her mind started to piece together if it was truth or not, rather than feeling like a dream, it felt like memories. Like something she's witnessed and seen firsthand, she turned her gaze to the attended and couldn't help but smile at how much she made a difference in this whole situation. She couldn't help but chuckle at the low glow of her compendium just under the sofa cushion her head was on.
However she froze when she heard the toilet flush in the apartment only then she noticed the dim light being omitted from the bathroom adjacent to the bedroom. It seems whoever was here wasn't alerted to herself waking up, and she had a chance to catching them win surprise. Silently she moved the covers aside, picking up her revolver and the holster strap that was on the table and slipped it on as she started to creep towards the door, her bare feet against the carpeted floor enough to hide her movements.
Eyes narrowing and holster shoulder down, stealthily she got to the door arm raised ready for the intruder. Squinting slightly as the door opened She was about to raise her weapon when dull grey orbs stared right back at her, seemingly tired from being woken up to make this trip to the toilet. It took him a moment but he couldn't quite piece together what was going on. He blinked a couple times trying to process what was going on in front of him.
"S-Souji...?" Naoto muttered as his eyes blinked again as he tried to focus on her, his mind working to catch up.
"O-Oh, hey Naoto..." He muttered, a bloom of the cheeks showing embarrassment at the current situation. He really needed to use the toilet from being out of action for almost a week. As his feet shuffled in place, not entirely sure what he wanted to say.
"I didn't mean to scare you. I saw everyone sleeping and thought it could wait until morning..."
The Sleuth swiftly holstered her weapon, before unclipping the whole thing away from her and dove into Souji's chest forcing a grunt from him.
"Souji-kun..." She muttered into his chest, breathing a sigh of relief that he was now awake, one thing was seeing him in his own mind space, another was having him physically here, someone to hold on too. "I'm so happy to have you back."
She took in his scent at what felt like has not been in years as his arms enclosed around her. She snuggled against him, just to have him here. The feel of his chest, the density of his arms and the rhythmic thump of his heartbeat that was very distinctive to him.
"I'm sorry I put you through this. My mind still feels a bit hazy, after everything this doesn't quite feel real..."
The Sleuth's arms tensed around him as she contemplated his words in the darkened living space.
"No, it's not your fault, you did what you could in a bad situation, I'm just happy the outcome wasn't worse. You've come back to me, back to us and that's all that matters. And as for knowing this feels real..." She uncoiled herself from him for a second before taking his face in her hands and pulling him down for a deep kiss. His hands moved from her back to her hips as he melted into her embrace, one that felt so familiar but felt like a long lost art due to how long they've been apart distance wise. Naoto probed his tongue with her own, recalling their intimate dance from memory as they melded together for just a short while before Naoto pulled back, her eyes half lid, looking at her boyfriend dreamily, momentarily forgetting about the hardships they've faced.
"That's how I know it's real..." The murmured words were enough as her gentle tone rung in Souji's ears. His face couldn't help but be pulled into a soft smile, never being happier even with his mind still putting things together and with the separation of his powers, trying to sync his memories up to make them more coherent.
"Yeah, can't get more real than that." Hearing his girlfriend scoff at his comment only made him appreciate her more as they held together just outside the main bathroom. Placing her head against his chest again, she relaxed, the shades of sleepiness now suddenly making their return. No surprised how exhausted she and the team were from yesterday. Souji seemingly sensed this when he suddenly pried her off him, trying to make as much of a serious expression as he could manage.
"Naoto you are exhausted."
"Not as much as you are."
Shaking his head, his frown framed his features.
"I know I am but you should head back to sleep, I should do the same. We can carry on in the morning and talk about what happen with the others."
Time froze in her mind, contemplating his words. His reasoning maybe sound but she wished they could bask in each other a little while longer. Trust him to be pragmatic about this at this given time.
"While I wish I can argue more, you are right about this Souji-kun. I just want to spend more time with you..."
"And so do I, I really want to just hold you close and never let you go. I'm..." She could see the tears form in the corner of his eyes in the dimly lit room but he was holding back, fighting off the emotion. "I...I can't do this again. I shouldn't have you risking your life for a mistake I made, for a situation I couldn't deal with..."
Souji sunk to his knees in front of her, his sobs doing nothing but tearing her heart apart.
"I can't lose you..." Closing her eyes, the Sleuth brought Souji's head to her bosom, her warmth and the cotton feel of her pyjama top enough to soothe his conflicted soul.
"And you will not," She ran her hands through his hair trying to comfort her significant other, feeling his pain and trying to get him through the haze of doubt it's generated. "You will have me as long as you want me; I will not abandon you, and external forces, otherworldly or otherwise will not pry you away from the grip of my love."
The Detective's other hand strokes his face lovingly. Her look sympathetic as the normally steadfast, strong, and cool leader of their team of truth break down in her arms, seeing the mask fall revealing the insecurities he had inside.
"Just look around at the people in this apartment, we pulled together for you. They supported me because of how strong your bond is to them. While you fight for us, while you believe in the truth for us we will believe in you and do everything in our power to make sure we do not lose you. You are just as precious to us as we are to you. Never forget that, it's fine to have our support, it's fine to lean on us. While you are strong you are not unbreakable, this is the same words you've told to me so it's only fair I repeat it back..."
Pulling on his head to tilt it back so she could make eye contact,
"We are here for you; we love you and have faith in us to pick you up when you are down."
Ducking his head down in shame of his weakness,
"I'm sorry you had to see this Naoto..."
"No no, don't apologise. We all have this moment where we wade through the dark. But as always even through the cloud, even through the mist, I will reach out through the darkness and pull you to safety."
"Thanks Naoto, I love you so much..."
She held him tighter, "I love you too, always will."
With a reluctant sigh she knew just from this interaction alone, they were sleepy, emotionally tired and paranoid about what would happen next, Souji's original words about getting rest no more apparent than ever in her mind.
"Let's get to sleep; you are correct that we need to be well awake for tomorrow. Plus..." She looked down at him, his grey orbs making contact with her own. For just a moment the flutter of a bright blue butterfly floated around them, her own cobalt eyes flashing a bright azure for just a split second.
"I have something that needs returning to you."
Souji's eyes widened for just a moment.
"Ah... I hope it's not too noisy in there..."
All the Sleuth could do was chuckle.
"This is the reason why I want to give it back. Come..." She pulled Souji back up so he was on two feet again, momentarily forgetting how tall he was compared to her. "Head to bed, and we can discuss it more tomorrow."
With that she pulled the former leader of the Investigation Team back to his bedroom and gently guided him in. She watched from the open door as he collapsed on the bed in a heap causing the Detective to giggle. Giving a small wave she closed the door slowly as she padded back over to the sofa, picking up her holster strap from the floor and placing it on the table.
"Nice to see the idiot back on his feet."
The words almost made Naoto jump out of her skin as she looked over to see in the dark two pairs of glowing eyes staring back at her, one a set of red and the other a golden yellow.
"Holy gods you scared me."
A small giggle from Margaret as she repositions to face the Sleuth while still lying on her side,
"We didn't want to interrupt; we thought it wasn't our place. But you two were not exactly quiet.
"Plus you two deserve your time together for now. Tomorrow will be quite interesting?"
Naoto who was still getting her breath back nodded quickly.
"Yeah, well I'm going to head to bed, I think I might need it."
...
...
The following morning was filled with excitement as they greeted Souji in the morning when he woke up pretty late at around 11am. Naoto looked on as he attempted his morning routine, constantly bumping into Margaret and Marie while they did everything they could to keep him off his feet. They swiftly backed down when offered that Souji would cook breakfast. Using the reasoning that it helps clear his mind the two ladies didn't argue, instead sitting at the sofas eagerly waiting for whatever he was finished making. However Naoto took this upon herself to go in and assist, which he didn't turn down.
Before that however, Naoto had been swamped with messages from the Investigation Team about what's been going on including an impromptu video call from Rise and Yukiko about what's happening and worried about them blowing her off when their memories were warped. It took a mountain of convincing from herself to say things were ok now, or at the minimum going much better. She couldn't fault them for the concern though, Souji was up but definitely not the same as before, whether his memories are still being pieced back or the trauma of the whole situation still laid dormant in his mind, she could see the slight moment of hesitation or the lost spring in his step in his actions.
This will need work going forward, but back to more pressing matters...
Due to their experience cooking together (and living together for short periods of time), their movements were more like a synchronised dance as they moved in unison from grabbing items, getting cooking utensils, organising ingredients to actually cooking. The Detective couldn't help but feel a little self-conscious as the other set of eyes in the room watched carefully as they prepared American styled pancakes and bacon. Naoto was unable to stop herself from sneakily give him a hug from behind while he was frying, it was short but enough to show the affection she had built up since she got to Tokyo. When he turned around to ask what the matter was he was silenced with a small kiss on the cheek and no words, making him blush in front of the audience they had.
After a satisfying breakfast around the kitchen counter top, the three ladies started to fill Souji in on what happened.
"So you are telling me we were attacked by another god but a lesser one." Marie nodded, as she took another bite out of her third pancake.
"Mmm, these are good... Yeah she is the failed daughter of Susanoo, a trickster god who knows nothing but scorn and anger. Resentful of everything that allows people to live, wanting nothing but power to prove they are the better god."
Souji put a hand to his chin, looking at his now empty plate like it might give him an answer.
"And she was after the power of the Wild Card? Why would the power of the Wild Card be useful in being a more powerful god, don't they already have access to the sea of souls?"
Margaret looked over, a small frown at Souji's look of concern.
"Technically that's correct, however she was hoping to use your power to trick the seal in replacing itself, breaking that open and gaining that power to absorb the threat behind the door."
The former leader's eyes widened.
"Wait, she was planning to break open the seal, what would happen to Arisato-san's soul?"
The attendant could only shake her head, a sad expression emphasised by her silver hair covering half her face.
"Probably assimilated into her power, and then disintegrated upon fusing with the Wild Card itself. Having two stacks of that power is basically unheard of. With that much power plus her divinity, she would have no power over throwing the Nyx and using its power to end the world as we knew it. Or rule over it with a divine heel. Something that other gods will not be able to stop, and we associates of the Velvet Room will have no means of stopping her once going that far. The only reason why I knew is because she made a first attempt at the seal which was unsuccessful and was barely able to make a dent in the seal but it was sensed by multiple people at the time. Fortunately her divine power works against her in this situation."
Naoto looked, completely perplexed at Margaret's words.
"How so?"
"So due to her godly powers, you leave a footprint, and in our enemy's case it's a divine footprint. Well one of the reasons why the Nyx can't interact with the seal for now is due to protection of anything of a divine nature. However it's not just gods that leave a footprint, we all do. Because of this you my Fool and currently you Naoto have a distinct ability to leave a footprint related to the Wild Card and the graces of Master Philemon. The Wild Card has the ability to override these footprints like it's done with my Sister. With that she is able to interact with things she wouldn't normally be able to before. I think with the first attempt she was able to gain the power of his looks at the bare minimum which allowed her to get around in the real world long enough undetected, her ability to masquerade as others is something that comes into play."
Souji turned to the deity masquerading as a human, with a curious look on his face.
"Would you be able to intervene?"
Marie leaned back a little, looking up to the sealing for a moment.
"Yes and no..." Turning to the rest of the group, with an expression that held a lot of confusion. "It's difficult for me to say. Like technically I already have but using the full extent of my power to attack her is a grey area I'm not sure I understand. Not sure if the higher powers that be would even allow me to do such a thing."
Shaking her head,
"Saying that Philemon also intervened as well so I'm assuming this was a very special case. It's one of those things where I don't know until the time comes. Also have to admit I wasn't thinking straight when I was assisting earlier which could have gotten me into trouble."
"How do you mean?" The Detective asked before taking in a mouthful of coffee.
Looking at the two lovers, Marie blushed hotly, taking a moment to get her words right.
"I've not hidden the fact I have feelings for this stupid idiot here. But at the end of the day, I'm still Izanami on the inside, and the threat this god was posing would mean I'd lose the spiritual personification of my husband for the second time. I couldn't let that happen. So even as a divine being, I was thinking like a human, using emotions at the catalyst for my actions doing things for love. It was very selfish of me..."
Her declaration made the lovers blush as they looked away from each other embarrassingly.
"...While I care for humanity, there is a spark that made sure the people I love was cared for and I could do my part to see them through to the other side."
She gave a small giggle as a memory flashed in her mind.
"Also living vicariously through Naoto for a couple hours was exhilarating."
The comment only made Naoto scoff While Souji howled in laughed, the whole thing coming out of left field. Marie turned to Margaret who was supporting a small pout.
"I can only be jealous,"
"Anyway so this is you caught up to speed Souji, I know what you went through was tough but we managed to get through it, all things considered she has been removed from the realm of the living and possibly the afterlife so the threat of her coming back is minimum at best." A more serious look took over her face, "While we are at it, we still have some business to take care of."
This caught Souji attention,
"Hmm? Oh yeah I almost forgot."
Turning to Naoto, her face perked up as soon as they made eye contact.
"That also reminds me, last night I had a really strange dream..."
The other three in the room leaned slightly closer, waiting for her to continue.
"It was one fighting," Turning to both Margaret and Souji, her face morphed into something of hurt and fear. "I saw the whole process of Souji separating himself and Margaret struggling against that god. I saw him thrown against a wall, I saw Margaret..."
The attendant reached over and squeezed her hand.
"That wasn't a dream. That was a memory. That is one of the side effects of having that power, those were Souji's memories you were reliving. I'm so sorry I couldn't do more."
Naoto shook her head, dismissing her apology entirely.
"It wasn't your fault at all. It was just something I noticed that's all. I didn't know if it was a dream or actually something else. But least I know what it was now. Put's my mind at ease somewhat..."
Souji took her other hand, making note how much she was trembling.
"I'm still piecing mine together, but I'm sorry you have to bear with it."
The Sleuth only shook her head,
"No no, it's just the circumstance of the current situation that's all."
He held her hand tighter.
"Are you sure you are ok with this? I wouldn't want to take the power you worked really hard to earn."
The Detective nodded her head, fiddling with her fingers as she blushed under his compliments.
"No no, this power is yours. It wouldn't be right for me to hold on to them..." Looking at Marie for a moment before turning back to her beloved, "I've gained a lot from this alone so no, I don't feel put out. If anything it's felt like I've had a part of you while fighting and that's what got me through everything."
The kiss on her forehead was chaste but enough to know how much he adored her.
"Thanks so much Naoto, for everything. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you-"
Bringing a finger to his lips, Naoto shook her head, a bright smile on her face.
"We've been through this. No need to thank me, you've done the same for me and I'd always do the same for you." Glancing over at the two in the room, they looked on, interested at their display of affection, Naoto only rolled her eyes for a moment before speaking, and "So what should we do Marie to get things to back how they were?"
"Oh- Oh yeah, well lets head to the Sofa, I'll need Margaret for this one cause both of you are awake at the moment so it will make it a little harder. Would you mind?"
A small smile now replaced the pout she had earlier.
"Certainly, let me get my Compendium and we can begin."
...
"So just place you right hand on his." Marie instructed; her voice deeper than normal as the inner deity took over to perform said ritual. As soon as Naoto's hand touched her beloved, she felt the warmth from him instantly, she could feel Yamato Sumeragi hum, pleased at the contact. The chatter of all the other Persona in her mind quietened down, knowing what was taking place.
"Now since you are both awake for this time round, we need to concentrate extra hard. So both of you close your eyes, I need you to imagine that your minds are one, Margaret, monitor the spiritual flux through your compendium to make sure the balance is correct, and inform me if anything seems out of the ordinary."
The attendant flicked through a couple of her pages before finding the right one. She closed her eyes causing the book to float in her palm.
"Spiritual observation in session, please proceed."
Nodding at her ritual assistant, Marie placed a hand on the ones that were joined in front of her. The left eye of the god started to glow a bright green, as she channelled her power to the two in front of her.
"Now, just keep thinking about each other, together as much as you can."
The pair couldn't help but flush as moments together reeled through their minds. Naoto couldn't help but grasp his hand tighter out of instinct.
"Now on the count of three I'm going to infuse your connection with spiritual energy to kick start the transference, Margaret will do her best to keep the connection streams steady. All I need you to do is make your connection as strong as possible for that brief amount of time. Understand?"
The couple nodded, their eyes still closed.
"Right, One..."
The room suddenly went silent other than for the hum of Margaret's compendium.
"Two..."
The low whirl of the attendants Le Grimoire grew louder as Marie's hand on the pair's started to glow brighter.
"Three..."
On the count, Souji and Naoto both leaned forward and locked lips in a very chaste kiss. Marie couldn't help but rolled her eyes before the glow in her hand grew larger until she shot a jolt of spiritual energy through her hand into the grasp of the lovers before her. The sheer amount of power caused them both to jolt backwards from each other but they still kept their hands connected. Blinking a few times, the weight in Naoto's mind was suddenly gone, the sound of the voices in her head with each of their own discussion now empty except for the sound of Yamato Sumeragi and...
Instantly turning to Marie,
"How come I can still hear Izanami?"
The goddess masquerading as a weather reporter grinned while the sound of a book closing came from behind her, Margaret looking pleased with her assist.
"I did say you earned the power of a God in that battle, I also said nothing about taking it away from you. While for now it's mostly just for sentimental value, who knows in the future you might need to be in combat yet again. A part of me will happily fight by your side in the future. I owe you so much even before this."
A soft smile now on her features,
"Thank you," Before turning to her boyfriend. "Are you ok, you've been silent?"
The look on his face was curious, before his forehead furrowed like he could hear something, or many things.
"Sorry about that, I'm just getting used to the voices is in my head, everything is here and accounted for since before. Sorry you had to bear with this for so long..."
Naoto only shook her head.
"Anything to save you,"
Happy with her hard work Marie clapped her hands.
"Right with all that done, I think it's time for us to go. We can meet with you Naoto once you get back to Inaba. We'll probably take a temporal short cut through the other world to get back, Margaret would stick out like a sore thumb getting back so it's a lot easier. Good thing Mitsuru-san fitted this place with a new TV. I'm sure you still don't want to be looking at one the same way still."
The nod from the Detective was enough, plans now to sire up the loose ends to close the book on this incident.
"Makes sense, I'll stay with Souji-kun for a couple more days to make sure his recovery is going well then I'll head back to home for exams..."
Turning to Souji,
"If my memory serves me correctly, you'll be heading to Inaba next week?"
It was a quick nod, "Yes, I haven't forgotten at all, I have someone's graduation to catch."
He could feel the grasp on his hand grow ever so tighter.
"Excellent, I'll see you in Inaba soon. I think there will be quite a party for your return. Anyway we should get going."
The look she gave Souji was stern,
"Keep out of trouble; we don't know if there have been any side effects from what has happened, so please keep Naoto-kun close in the immediate future. No playing hero!"
She was met with a swift nod.
"Keep us up to date Naoto-kun."
The overjoyed smile on her face was as bright as a Japanese summer's day.
"Will do,"
