Hey, Dewey Dalmatian barking.
Did you know that parks are amazing when no mob of people annoying with you can recognize you or find you?
I sighed calmly as I rode on the back of my older sister Da Vinci.
She had promised dad to take care of me today while we were walking in the park.
Frankly, that made me very happy.
The first thing I noticed about Da Vinci while we were just calmly exploring the park. is that she likes to take it easy while we are outside.
She just hummed happily and stopped every now and then to appreciate or sniff her surroundings.
Sometimes she would stop a little longer and talk for a few moments with me about a painting she had in mind, or if she heard me yawn, she would make strange noises to try to cheer me up, believing that I was getting bored.
I was not bored.
I was just ... at peace.
I'd seriously forgotten what it felt like to just get outside and enjoy my surroundings without having to worry about getting hurt in any way if I just stopped for a few moments from doing all kinds of super fun shenanigans.
Sure, Camden Park was as far as possible from being the quietest place there is. But still, I found myself very fascinated by how everything looked from my small perspective.
So many colors, shapes and figures.
I quickly found myself really wanting to paint this strange world of colors and giants.
But ... that would have to wait.
Da Vinci hadn't brought her tools.
Of course, I could always improvise something. it wouldn't be difficult to get away from Da Vinci for a few moments and steal a pen and a sheet of paper from some unsuspecting human, but right now I just didn't feel like I wanted to do more than enjoy the colorful world of giants around me.
there would be time to paint.
"Am I boring you Dewey?", Da Vinci stopped and asked something worried, "we can always join with the other and play", she nodded to where our brothers and sisters were "training" our pet making him chase his phone / second brain.
Quickly I shook my head, what our brothers were doing seemed like a lot of fun, but if I joined them I would burn too fast what little energy my little body can generate before needing to take a nap.
"Baba" is all I said to my older sister, I was hoping that Da Vinci could see my tail that would not stop shaking, that, would surely convince her that I am not bored at all.
"Good", she nodded in my direction and resumed her trot, "I just wanted to be sure you're having fun with me, Dewey."
Quickly I gave her a few pats on her gigantic head, 'don't worry big sister, this place is ama- and you're doing pepe'
I quickly rolled my eyes and slid off my older sister's back, and looked away as she, uh, marked her territory?
I don't know, I just know that she was doing her canine business at the foot of a street lamp in public.
while she was doing that, I was just looking elsewhere but in her direction, just trying to figure out how to whistle with a snout to make the situation less uncomfortable for me.
¡!
Suddenly my eyes widened.
a butterfly had just settled peacefully on the tip of my snout.
She was gorgeous, and she had smart little cartoonish eyes that were looking directly at me.
* ñum *
I quickly ate it.
now the soul of this crunchy little butterfly belongs to me, muahahaha, my first victim.
"Euw, Dewey don't eat that. You're going to get sick."
I didn't pay the slightest bit of attention to my disgusted older sister Da Vinci, as I continued to munch on the tasty, crunchy butterfly with some nostalgia.
So many good proteins, I thought and settled to myself as I swallowed the remains of my very crunchy and tasty victim and looked happy and with some nostalgia at the clear and cartoonish horizon.
It tasted exactly the same as the ones I used to eat when Dad took me to spend my summer vacation at an abandoned campsite outside in the woods of my hometown.
How much nostalgia.
Those were the best 6 months of pure fun and freedom I have ever had.
but of course the stupid and not at all funny rangers had to spoil my fun and drive me home again just for being the prime suspect in causing a stupid forest fire.
I huffed at that, my parents weren't happy at all when they had to welcome me back.
I quickly understood why.
That had been the shortest summer vacation I've ever had!
I mean, it was supposed to be like 12 months before I found my way back home.
It felt like cheating when those anoying guys had to escort me back.
Well, at least it had been a very fun vacation, not like the one I had at 12 when most of it I was completely lost in a strange maze full of corncobs while a strange group of pale and uniformed children chased me with their weird shiny eyes.
Huh, you know, in the end, I never really knew what happened to all those kids when I tried to set a cob on fire to see if it would explode in a popcorn shower and I accidentally ended up setting the whole cornfield on fire.
They sure went on with their lives. I mean, if someone like me, at twelve, could come out of all that intact, it's safe to think that all those strange boys and girls with sparkling eyes ran with the same fate and no one was fatally injured in the end.
I sighed contently and happily as I resumed my quiet winged walk with my older sister Da Vinci. It's certainly amazing how many good memories a simple, crunchy butterfly can bring back to you.
We both continued exploring the park, I tried to imitate my older sister's canine behavior as best I could, sporadically stopping myself for a few moments and sniffing a couple of bushes.
Every now and then I would pause a little longer and raise my head curiously, just turning my neck from left to right with both ears held high trying to find the exact location of our many brothers and sisters who were still playing not too far away from us happily with the human.
I smiled, it looks like we were all having a lot of fun.
"A-are you sure you don't want to join them, Dewey?"
I instantly stopped smiling and turned to give my annoying older sister a flat look.
"Ba ...", I lowered my head and sighed before lifting it up again, it's the third time you've asked me the same thing, sister. I'm fine with you and just enjoying things in calm for now. I shrugged and returned my attention to the front of me. now my brothers and sisters were teaching the human to dance like the King of Pop himself.
Next to me, my older sister Da Vinci must have understood my limited body language well enough to know that it was starting to irritate me.
"Next time, I'll bring all my tools with me and show you the best place for us to paint something together, I promise"
That promise ... quickly made my tail start waging, and it caused an honest smile to be born again on my snout, banishing any ounce of irritation that might be reflected in it.
I already had a perfect idea of what I wanted to paint.
