I'm back! So this story will wrap up the next chapter. This chapter is an emotional roller coaster yeesh. Anyway, thank you all for sticking with me, enjoy! -AnUnknownStranger
Vi's boots kicked against the gravel street as two Enforcers pushed her along. Looking to her right she saw Ekko's shoulders also being gripped by Enforcers as he walked with them-or rather against them. To Vi's left she saw her sister and Caitlyn walking obediently, something that was not found in both of their nature. Something was off.
Vi could see the bridge up ahead and needed to think quickly. Crossing that bridge would make escaping difficult if not impossible. Once they had reached the bridge, she could see Jayce and his men looking defeated and unamused.
"I have to say, I'm a little surprised that you of all people would work with Jinx." Jayce scowled as he spoke to Caitlyn.
"I wouldn't call it working with, more like dealing with for the greater good. No thanks to you." Caitlyn glared at the man who used to be her friend.
"How could you? She killed your mother." Talis asked with disbelief.
"Yes…she did." Caitlyn looked to Jinx who kept her head down before looking back at Jayce. "But the city did not. You cannot kill thousands in retaliation to one persons crime." Caitlyn argued.
"You just don't get it. They hate us and want nothing more than to see us dead!" Jayce raised his voice and pointed his finger toward Ekko, Jinx, and Vi.
"You're wrong…" Caitlyn stated firmly. Jayce sighed. "You, I can forgive but not them…"
"Vi and Ekko did nothing wrong. They aided apprehended Jinx and even tried to bring you the gemstone before the bridge attack. Let them go." Caitlyn demanded.
"Cait-" Vi was cut off by Caitlyn's foot making contact with hers. "Vi already spent several years in jail and Ekko's only crime is fighting Silco's people." Caitlyn added.
Jayce pondered before nodding. "Connect the bridge and bring me Jinx and Kiramman. The rest can be released." He ordered.
An Enforcer placed a long metal beam down that began unfolding to connect to the other side. Once it stopped, the Captain and Enforcers pushed Caitlyn to cross the ramp first and then Jinx. The other Enforcer's began uncuffing Vi and Ekko. "Don't worry…you'll find me. No matter where I am." Jinx said softly to her sister before crossing.
"Stop! Take me not her!" Enforcer's quickly grabbed onto Vi holding her tightly as Jinx crossed.
"Let's go." Jayce began to turn at leave but Caitlyn stopped him. "Wait." She said to which he furrowed his brows in confusion. His eyes quickly widened when she reached for an Enforcers pistol and brought it to Jinx' stomach firing it several times. VI's screams became muffled in the background as she looked in Jinx' purple eyes brimming with pained tears.
Vi had broken out of the Enforcers grips as she reached out for her sister only brushing her fingertips before she fell into the water below. When the shock of losing her sister had warn off, Vi's eyes met Caitlyn's with fury.
"How could you?!" Vi yelled as she stood to feet ready to pounce. Before she could reach her, the ramp was folded. Only Ekko's grip had prevented her from joining her sister in the river. Jayce held onto Caitlyn's arm much like Ekko except in contempt not love. "She's dead…isn't that what you wanted?" Caitlyn scowled at the man of progress. Jayce only responded with cold eyes and a disapproving scowl before stepping away. He had waved off the Enforcers when they attempted to grab Caitlyn signaling his surrender, but not before one last say. "I believe it would be in your best interest…if you went back to the Undercity." The face of her former best friend was instantly masked by a face of betrayal and hatred. He saw her as nothing more than a Zaunite and her, he was nothing more than another entitled Pilty. "Goodbye, Counselor." Caitlyn hissed.
She looked back to the other side and saw no sight of Ekko and Vi. Her eyes wandered down to the river below searching for them but it had become to dark to see. Seeing that she was now free, she went down to the river to find them.
"Powder!" Vi yelled as she ran into the murky water. She stopped at her waistline and continued to yell and search. Ekko also searched along the shore and yelled for her. "Powder!" He called despite the name feeling foreign on his tongue. Jinx is who he came to know but Powder was who he hoped to find.
"Over here!" Caitlyn yelled from the other sides shore. Ekko and Vi began to quickly swim across until they were on the opposite show under the bridge. "Get away from her." Vi voice was rasp but came out in a rage. Caitlyn stepped away and sat close behind them watching. She could feel Ekko's glare but kept her focus on Vi and Jinx.
Vi placed her hands on Jinx' stomach, her hands becoming drenched in blood. Vi couldn't stop the tears from running down her cheeks. "Come on Powder…I just got you back. I-I can't lose you again." She sobbed.
Ekko placed two fingers on Jinx' neck and frowned. "She's gone Vi…"
"No! She just needs a doctor." Vi shook her head. Caitlyn leaned in listening intently, but kept her distance.
Vi felt Ekko's hand on her shoulder and found her sadness quickly turning back to rage. She moved away from Jinx' body and stood to bring her fists to Caitlyn. She grasped Caitlyn's shirt and held her down ready to kill her.
Caitlyn closed her eyes bracing for the punch that never came. A coughing broke through Vi's state of anger and back to reality.
Jinx' gasped and began to cough causing her body to wrack in pain. Vi moved back to her sisters side and placed her head onto her legs. "I'm here, Pow-Pow…I'm here." Tears of relief flooded Vi's eyes as she saw her sister awaken-or rather revive.
Once Jinx caught her breath, the coughing remained in her throat only jerking her body occasionally. "You died…I checked and you were gone." Ekko kneeled down and looked to his with disbelief.
Vi looked to Jinx' stomach and saw a mixture of purple shimmer and blood pooling on her abdomen.
"The shimmer…it saved you." Vi pieced together.
"We knew this was the only way." Caitlyn began. Vi and Ekko looked to her with confusion.
"When we were walking to Benzo's…you two were planning this." Vi recalled.
Caitlyn nodded. "It was just a backup plan assuming we survived the bomb. She knew they wouldn't stop looking for her." Caitlyn explained.
"So why save her? She killed your mother." Ekko asked coldly.
"I killed her…and she helped save the city so I guess we're even." She gave a small smirk before standing to her feet.
Jinx shakily grasped Vi's hand and clenched it reassuringly. "I'm more shimmer than human…" she took in a shaky breath. "I'll be okay." She exhaled.
Vi held Jinx hand to her cheek not caring about the blood. "Don't ever say that…you're my sister." Vi stated softly but with certainty.
Jinx smiled before sitting up with Vi's assistance. The small holes in her back began to seal as the purple shimmer ran down her skin. "It had to be point blank so the bullets would go through unfortunately." Caitlyn winced.
"Nice shooting, Cupcake." Jinx teased with a pained expression.
"I think you still need a doctor-"
Jinx quickly cut Ekko off. "No. No doctors." She said sternly.
Vi and Ekko lifted Jinx to her feet causing her to yell in pain. "We need to get out of here before Enforcers look around." Caitlyn urged them.
"Trying…" Jinx winced. Ekko decided to pick Jinx up bridal style and follow Vi and Caitlyn closely behind.
"For the record…I was right." Ekko smirked as he kept his eyes forward. Jinx looked up at him with confusion.
"Taking bullets to protect Vi is something Powder would do, not Jinx." Ekko informed.
"I was…saving myself." She argued in a slightly amused tone.
"Sure you were." Ekko replied sarcastically. Jinx couldn't argue so instead she rested her head on his chest and closed her eyes.
