Chapter 3: Leviathan

Story Start.

Previously from the Chronicles of the Eternal Sage: Far Horizons…

"… you dare…" the black-haired woman grunted as she tried to move, but she could do nothing.

"Your presence here is an anachronism, Holy Father." The General finally turned around and looked at the new arrival - a man with a full white beard and hair, clothed in white and crimson adorned in gold, and this man still had Leviathan at his mercy.

From another world and another time, this man came from, and the woman he held was none other than his mother's counterpart in this world. The man bowed to the General with a small smile, which he returned in kind.

"Your office has not even been established yet in this world, my old friend, Lord Bishop of Rome."

Leviathan clenched her teeth; her face marred with anger as the stranger from a far-off land held her while Naruto watched her with an unreadable look.

The Roman Senator then returned to his paperwork, and the Gremory progenitor made herself scarce lest she provoke the wrath of Leviathan later. However, the actions of the Senator only furthered Leviathan's anger, not that she could do anything.

"Damn you!" she growled at the two men whilst the man in white smiled down at her.

The Satan of the Sea could not fathom how this day turned out to be; she was supposed to warn the General but found herself incapacitated by this unknown stranger; Bishop of Rome? What even is that? She questioned in her mind, but for now, no answer came.

"Calmed down yet, Levi?" asked Naruto, all while he remained engrossed in his work, documents neatly piled on one side and scrolls to another.

"Let me go, and I might!"

"Not gonna happen, lady," she heard him say, but he did not turn towards her, though; he continued, "What brings your ass here?"

She then became silent; her choice of words mattered, and she knew it; this man was dangerous, yet she chose to approach him, not to mention he directly worked under God; she didn't know much about his capabilities, but the fact remains, Underworld is wary of him.

"… I… wanted to talk to you," she said, her emotions mellowed out, but the stranger kept her under his hold.

"Then perhaps it would be wise not to utter blasphemies about my employer in my presence," retorted Naruto, but he was not angry, just annoyed, to say the least.

"This would have gone differently if the Holy Father didn't intervene and held you back," he continued while Leviathan grimaced; then, she found herself able to move and the stranger whom Naruto referred to as 'Holy Father' gone from behind her and now on a chair near Naruto's desk.

Leviathan nursed her wrists, clearly bruised, and she could feel the divine energy from whatever held her at bay; meanwhile, Naruto whistled as he saw it.

"Holy Father, that's rather brutal of you," he said as he turned to his friend, who nodded.

"I know, but if washed with the water from the river Jordan, it will be fine," he replied with mild amusement, which Naruto shared.

"That would get her hands burned into cinders," he replied with a chuckle, but he turned serious as his gaze fell back to Leviathan, who stood there quietly – a far cry from what she was like moments ago.

"Now please, sit," offered Naruto to the Satan, who accepted in silence; the mood changed abruptly, and the Holy Father took that as his signal.

"Dominus, all arrangements have been made; you know the drill," he said, and Naruto gave a curt nod.

"Thanks, now then, I'll deal with your mother's counterpart here," replied Naruto and the man vanished in a bright light.

Leviathan looked towards the spot where the man in white sat, questions in mind, but only one came out in the open, "Who was that?"

"Do you believe in the existence of other words, parallel and otherwise?"

The Satan raised an eyebrow at the strange question, but Naruto was serious, so she thought about it carefully.

"… there are some whispers amongst the curators of knowledge in the Underworld, but no definitive answer came up."

Naruto nodded in acceptance, and he sighed, "I wouldn't know too if I never met the Holy Father, he and the Lord explained it in detail, but I digress."

"He was born in the year 1517, which here in our world, about a thousand and four hundred eighty-four years in the future; he came from another time, from another reality; from which he was born as Aurelius Augustinus Marcus Leviticus… Leviathan Uzumaki." Naruto stated, and Leviathan's mind tried to comprehend what she had just heard.

"… Leviathan Uzumaki…" echoed in her mind because that only meant one thing.

Her eyes tried to meet his eyes, but she quickly averted his gaze out of embarrassment, but he thought nothing of it; instead, he became amused promptly as the Satan was reduced to this little, quiet thing. Perhaps God had indeed struck her down quite hard, as the Prophet Isaiah wrote, and this is just what indeed remains of her.

"He is our son, Levi, or rather, the son of our other selves in his world, the eldest among many others," stated Naruto, and upon hearing those words, Leviathan clenched her fists but did nothing and just stared down at the marble floor.

Naruto looked at her with slight pity, but he continued, "He is a result of what could have been had you made a different choice, but the die is cast, Levi; you crossed that Rubicon; your arrogance will be your downfall; you and everyone else, save perhaps Runeas."

It was then that Leviathan finally made eye contact with Naruto, and her old anger resurfaced, "How dare you!"

"No, none of this would have happened had you and your brethren remained obedient! God has broken His silence, and any hope of victory for your kind is at its end," he responded with the same fire in his voice, and Leviathan did not take that kindly.

Naruto knew Leviathan struck first; after all, he allowed it to happen, but he responded with greater force.

The sun had set over Rome, yet it was everything but quiet; atop Vatican Hill, Naruto clashed with the serpent, and this monstrous beast fought hard, struck hard, but it was for naught. The General was aflame, a golden flame that shone brightly in the land had anyone could see them.

The Roman Pantheon gave him their aid as they concealed everything from the humans in secret. Jupiter was first to voice it; nonetheless, everyone agreed that they would rather be in the Senator's good graces than not, Minerva most especially.

Naruto understood that as well, and he took advantage of it, all for his employer, to be honest.

Tiber's waters rose against him, but they were repelled, and the serpent crashed down the slopes of the hill, and from the dust, she tried to rise against him but found herself pinned.

The General uttered something she did not understand, but she understood that her transformation was reversed, and now she found herself in chains that bound her entire body.

She shivered in fear as those golden eyes stared down at her; all memories of the ancient past rushed in as she finally remembered his wrath after countless years.

"I do wonder how things could have been had you not fallen so low, Levi…" he said, but Leviathan preferred silence.

"I could end your part here and save Heaven the trouble of fighting you in the future, or…" he trailed on as he returned to his normal appearance.

"Or save her, like what happened to the Holy Father's mother," said a new voice from inside his head.

"… Kurama, you're awake."

"Since the Holy Father left," replied the Tailed Beast before a yawn echoed in Naruto's head. "And I'd go back to sleep had you not decided to slap Leviathan silly."

No more words were shared between the two old friends, there was not any need for such, and Naruto's attention returned solely to Leviathan, still bound by his chains.

"In a few weeks, God would triumph forever, you know this, yet you still disobey Him." His words struck true, and deep inside, Leviathan knew it was folly; the entire thing, from their rebellion eons ago, to this day, every step, every action, the upper hand remained with God.

"… there is no salvation for someone like me…" she whispered into the air, but Naruto heard her, nonetheless.

"Perhaps, but soon, it shall be offered freely to those who would accept, and the gates of hell can never overcome it."

Their relationship is complicated, far too complicated for his liking, but it was not a coincidence that they met; no, his employer was instead meddling at times, and their meeting was one of those moments.

She stood at the precipice of her own life, free will they were all given, yet they used it unwisely; too proud they were, and still are, yet he remained there, hopeful that she might return to him, but in her heart, she was afraid.

Satan Leviathan… despite the honours, the accolades, everything that came under that name, she felt empty, and all she could do was mask it with arrogance; in time, she took part in her kind's attempt for world domination, but he was there, in every step and fought them all the way.

Kings of the World, she remembered Lucifer's words, they desired it fervently, but now, she did not know what it truly meant; this world is not the only one out there, and when she first laid her eyes towards the Holy Father, she felt a familiarity but suppressed it immediately.

Then, she learned that not only did she have another self in another world, but that one is the mother of the Holy Father, Aurelius, and thus, across time and space, also her son.

She reflected on her life at that moment and, in anger, lashed out against Naruto. Still, she was thankful that she could let those feelings out, except for the part about being absolutely destroyed in battle, her pride was stung badly, and the devastation caused to her body had rendered her incapable of movement.

"… Lucifer, Beelzebub and Asmodeus will declare an open war in the future…" she suddenly said as she laid down in Naruto's bed whilst the man resumed his work on his desk; her voice was weak but audible.

"I know," replied Naruto, his back turned towards her as he wrote down letters, amongst other things. "God told me a while ago."

"…" she said nothing in reply; the soft sound of writing took over the silence, together with the sounds of burning wood by the fireplace nearby.

"Runeas already knows about it," he stated, and Leviathan glanced towards him, but he remained at work, and it was starting to annoy her.

"And she will not have any part in it."

Leviathan let out a weak chuckle, "… of course, she wouldn't… she'd do anything to be with you…"

The blond said nothing, which allowed Leviathan to continue whatever she wanted to say.

"… what am I really?" she wondered to herself.

God's sword struck her many times already; today was only the latest, and in the past, she fled like a serpent, but today, she remained, bound and broken perhaps, she hoped, for the last time; a little prayer to the one who created her.

Then in the corner of her vision, she saw Naruto, or she thought she did, but it was not so, for the Naruto she knew remained where he was the entire time.

"… dost thou desire to be with him?" a voice she had not heard since she rebelled echoed in her mind, yet she knew the source came from that person in the corner of her eyes, and tears welled up. It was at that moment that she realised who that was.

"Father… I do…" she muttered, and Naruto perked up; the presence now permeated the room, and he also knew who was with them.

Though whatever was shared between them, he didn't know, but he felt that it was good, somehow, since Leviathan miraculously recovered from her wounds.

Before long, the Messiah did what He said He would, and chaos ensued across time and space; all factions knew something was afoot, but those who were in the Underworld felt the chaos the hardest. In the realm of the devils, the Satans, or rather, the three present were overtaken by extreme anger, but far deeper, the Gods of Death recoiled in pain, their domains overtaken and forever changed.

All these events happened while Leviathan remained missing, she had not returned to the Underworld, and her siblings were worried.

Of the 72, only one knew where she was, but Runeas made herself scarce lest she brings attention to her and her actions. Her family already faced scrutiny by the way they lived, and she was not about to bring any further scrutiny. Childish and mischievous she may be, but it doesn't change the fact that despite being a devil, she was a woman who knew what love was, and she loved her family, most especially the man who helped her build it.

Of course, she would never say that to anyone but him.

Then, Leviathan appeared before her.

"Oh, dear," she muttered to herself as she fixed her crimson hair and made herself presentable.

"Runeas," greeted Leviathan, and something was different about her, which Runeas picked up immediately but thought nothing of it at the moment; rather, she went on like she usually did.

"I don't suppose we're planning another girls' night out?" joked Runeas while Leviathan rolled her eyes but let out a smile.

"Not in a thousand years, if ever."

"Ha!"

The two women then shared a laugh; all the tension washed away from them, and it was something they both needed at that time, with all the chaos that happened not long ago.

"If only he were here, rather than tarrying in Rome," uttered Runeas after the two of them calmed down, and Leviathan nodded in agreement as she found a chair to sit on.

"… he has important things to do, especially now that the prophecies of the Jews have been fulfilled," said Leviathan while Runeas hummed; she still did not understand holy matters, but it was clear that Leviathan gained some clarity if her aura said something.

"Will you stand against him, like you often did?" inquired the Gremory progenitor, and she gauged the Satan's emotions, in which she found herself surprised because Leviathan looked away with a slight smile on her face.

Memories of the past rushed back in like a waterfall, some good, others not so much, yet she cherished them all the same because she had something to look forward to now, and with a bright smile unseen by Runeas before, Leviathan answered her.

"Never again

Runeas Gremory stared at her, slacked-jawed and baffled, then realisation dawned, "Oh, you finally did it?"

Leviathan kept her smile intact while Runeas laughed like a madwoman, and it went on for a while before she managed to control herself; though chuckles still broke out in some moments; eventually, she composed herself.

"But do beware, Lady Leviathan, I got him first."

"You may have, Lady Gremory, but I can take him from you."

From that day, a rivalry emerged, a friendly one, if they were honest with one another, all for the love of one man. But one thing is for certain, Leviathan was forever grateful to her progenitor, though she also knew the challenges that lay ahead, most significantly, her fellow Satans who would not take kindly any betrayal, especially from so close within.

The die is cast, and indeed, Leviathan had crossed her own Rubicon; her old anger was a tool to bury her love, and Naruto saw through it, but he said nothing; instead, he aimed to save her and, in doing so, altered her fate.
