I hadn't really considered continuing this story past a one shot, but once I started it, I found I really enjoyed writing, which is something I've never really done before. I wanted to see where I was going to go with the story before posting a second chapter. I have now pretty much finished writing it so here's the next instalment. I will prob update a couple of times a week, but no set schedule. Thank you to everyone who has reviewed, followed or favourited. It makes my day every time I get a notification so feel free to keep them coming.
We had stayed on the couch, just wrapped in each others arms for a long while, until Bella eventually drifted off to sleep in my arms. Then I carried her into the bedroom and tucked her into the bed, that until now had served no purpose. I was glad now that I had taken the apartment furnished, even though I had seen very little point to much of the furniture at the time, but it helped me to blend in.
I spent the whole night, just staring at Bella in my arms and wondering just what I had ever done to deserve her. If you'd told me just the day before that I would spend a whole night just watching a human sleep, I'd have laughed but there was honestly no where in the world that I would rather be than here with this amazing human. With her silent mind, I was actually able to relax with her and enjoy the peace of the night.
As the sun began to rise the next morning, I realised that I had no idea how to care for a human. It had been many years since I had properly interacted with them, and even then I never really paid much attention to their needs. I thought about the basics; food, water, sleep. Sleep was obviously covered, but Bella had been with me for almost 12 hours and she hadn't eaten or drank anything in that time. There was nothing in the apartment, except water in the tap, so I was clearly going to have to do something about that.
She was still in a very deep sleep, so I decided to get dressed and go to a shop and stock up a little for her waking. I quickly pulled on my jeans, a t-shirt and shoes before writing a quick note to leave on the bed beside her, in case she woke while I was gone. It was still very early, but there were a few people around, so I listened to their minds to see what kind of things I should be getting for Bella's breakfast. Coffee seemed high on most people's lists, tea, juice, pastries, bread, bacon and eggs; just a few of the things on people's minds.
I spotted a coffee shop just up ahead and thought I would try to keep it simple. Obviously, I had no idea how to cook (perhaps I should learn, I thought) so I settled for a coffee, a tea, some orange juice and a selection of pastries and headed back to the apartment.
Bella was still sleeping when I got back so I went into the kitchen and rooted around in the cupboards, that had never as much as even been opened, found a tray, a plate and some cutlery and arranged it all along with the drinks and food I had bought.
Bella started to stir as I entered the bedroom with the tray. The sight of her lazily stretching under the thin sheet might have made me drop the tray if I didn't have fantastic reflexes. I could see the outline of her beautiful body and it made me want her so badly, but that would have to wait for now. I would make sure that all her needs were met before anything else happened.
"Good morning," I whispered, as I set the tray down on the table beside the bed, "I brought you some breakfast. I hope you're hungry."
"Mmmm..." she said sleepily, "I am, but first I need... a human moment? Where's the bathroom?"
I directed her to the bathroom just down the hall, watching as she walked away, still wrapped in the bed sheet, and as much as I wanted to see her naked body again, I had to admit that was a pretty hot sight. I took off my shoes before sitting on the bed to wait for her. She returned quickly and climbed back into the bed, looking up at me with desire in her eyes.
"I didn't know what to get you. I'm not used to shopping for human food, but I got you a selection of drinks and pastries. I hope it's all OK, I could go out again if there's..." I rambled, as she pressed her finger to my lips.
"It's amazing, thank you," she replied, lifting the coffee cup and breathing in the strong aroma. "I am definitely ready for some coffee."
I stared at her, as she drank her coffee and nibbled at one of the pastries. I knew I probably shouldn't stare while she was eating but I just couldn't take my eyes off her, even for a moment. She glanced up at me from underneath her eyelashes, looking a little self conscious at being stared at, but didn't say anything about it.
"So... no human food for you? You can't eat or drink any of this?" she asked.
"Technically, I can eat it but it's not nice and I can't digest it, so I avoid it at all costs," I replied.
She looked thoughtful, as she took in just one of many strange things she had learnt about me over the last half a day, and continued chewing as though it was the most normal conversation in the world. I couldn't get over how amazingly she was taking all of this.
"Did you sleep well?" I asked.
"Very," she answered, "In fact, I think it's the best nights sleep I have had in a long time. You?"
"Actually, I don't sleep. I can't," I said softy, still wondering if this would be the thing that sent her running and screaming. Surely, there was a limit to how much strangeness she could take before it was just too much.
"Wow," she whispered "Never?" I shook my head. "What did you do all night then, while I was sleeping?"
"I watched you," I confessed. "I hope that's not too weird for you." I was only just realising that she might not have appreciated being watched while she slept. I wanted to spend every moment possible with her so I desperately hoped she let me stay with her while she slept again. A third of every day was far too much time to have to stay away from her.
"Hmmmm... I feel like I probably should be a little freaked out by that but I'm not," she admitted. "I slept amazingly in your arms; its rapidly becoming my favourite place to be." With that I pulled her back into my arms, nuzzling at her neck and breathing in the amazing strawberries and freesia scent that was now my favourite smell in the world.
"You don't know how amazing it is to hear you say that," I breathed. "I have been alone for a long time, and I never thought I would find anyone, I wanted to be with like this. I'm a little overwhelmed, if I'm honest, but in a good way, a fantastic way."
"Well, you are not alone any more, never again if I have anything to do with it," she assured. "Can I ask how old you are?"
"17," I replied automatically, wondering if my actual age would bother her but I wouldn't lie to her, I couldn't. She was my mate and despite the fear that she may eventually run away screaming, I wanted her to know me.
"And how long have you been 17?" she shot back with a smirk.
"A while," I admitted, chuckling lightly. Clearly, I would have trouble getting anything past her anyway. "I was born in Chicago in 1901 and I was changed in 1918. I was dying of Spanish flu when he found me. My father had already died of the disease and my mother was on her death bed when she asked him to do whatever he could, what others could not, to save me. I've been like this ever since, never ageing or changing. I'm sure, it's all a lot to take in. Does any of this bother you?"
"Maybe it should," she started, "but whatever this connection is that we share negates it all."
"It's the mating connection," I explained. "Vampires mate for life. Once we find that one person, that's it for us. We never find anyone else or fall out of love. You asked last night, if it was normal for vampires and I suppose it is, but I have never felt this way, and even seeing it through the minds of other vampires, I never understood how completely all consuming it is. Plus, I've never heard of it happening with a human before, but I can see in your eyes that you can feel it just as strongly as me."
She sat quietly for a few moments, thinking about what I had told her I suppose or thinking about the other questions she had. When she didn't speak again, I took the opportunity to ask her more about herself.
"Tell me more about yourself. Last night, you had only just started telling me about yourself, when we kinda got lost in ourselves... Sorry about that," I said.
"Do not apologise for anything about last night. It was wonderful," she assured. "There's really not a whole lot more to tell. As I said last night, I lived with my mom in Phoenix until I was 17, then moved to live with my dad for the last few years of high school. I wish I had moved to live with him sooner, maybe we could have had some more time together. He died... just a few months ago, heart attack. I miss him." Tears welled up in her eyes and spilled over rolling down her cheeks. I held her tighter to me, unsure what to do or say.
"We had become quite close when I was living with him," she continued. "I had only been living here for college a few months when it happened. I think about him all the time, I can hardly concentrate on school work. I'm pretty much flunking at the minute. Then there will be split seconds when I forget and think I'll call dad, or maybe I'll go home for a visit, then it all comes crashing back and its like its happening all over again. This last day with you has been the best I've felt in a long time."
"I'm so sorry," I whispered. "I wish there was something I could do."
"There is," she replied "and you're doing it, just by holding me." She leaned her head even closer to me and sighed.
We sat quietly for a few moments, while she gathered herself together. She seemed like she was finished talking about herself for now.
"Can I... ask about your father, the vampire that created you?" she asked softly. "I've noticed that you never mention his name, so if you'd rather not talk about him, it's fine."
"No, it's fine. I have tried not to think about them for a long time; it was too hard. I miss them so much, but I want to tell you about them both." I said. I took a deep breath. "I don't remember my own parents very clearly now, but that never bothered me because I had Carlisle and Esme. Carlisle is over 300 years old, changed sometime in the 1600's. He tried to kill himself many times once he discovered what he had become, but it's almost impossible to kill a vampire. He starved himself because he refused to take a human life and eventually found that he could survive on the blood of animals. He spent a long time perfecting his control and is now a doctor, working tirelessly to save human lives. A few years after he changed me, he found Esme in the morgue of the hospital he worked at, barely alive after jumping off a cliff. He knew the moment he saw her that she was his mate and he changed her. We lived as a family after that, interacting with humans a lot, once mine and Esme's control was strong enough." If I could cry, I would have been by the time I finished talking. She turned in my arms, looking up at my face, clearly seeing that I was upset.
"You miss them so much, why have you never went back to them? There's no way that they would turn you away," she said, as she gently cupped my face in her hands.
"Maybe not, but I've always felt that too much has happened, I've been gone for over 50 years. I'm sure they have moved on with their lives, forgotten about me," I mumbled.
"Or maybe they have spent the last 50 years, worrying about you, hoping that someday you would return to them. You clearly haven't forgotten about them. I think you need to find them again," she stated.
"I'll think about it," I answered truthfully. Maybe, this was something I had to do, but I could only do this with her. I needed time to think about what we would do next.
"Anyway," she said huskily, "that's enough of the heavy questions for now. I only have one more." She trailed her fingers down my face and onto my neck. "How come you are wearing so many more clothes than me?" She moved her hands down to the hem of my t-shirt and pulled it up over my head.
"That's a bit better," she breathed, as she ran her fingers over my chest, scraping her nails lightly over my nipples. I gasped at the sensation. As she turned to face me better, the sheet that was still wrapped around her slipped down, exposing her perfect breasts. Her rosy nipples were hard and puckered, begging for attention, and so I bent my head and sucked one into my mouth as I rolled the other between my forefinger and thumb, eliciting a very sexy moan from her mouth. I vowed that I would spend the rest of my very long life, living for that noise as though it could sustain me.
"However," she whispered in my ear, "we still seem to be a little uneven." Then she pulled away from me, reaching her hand towards the button of my jeans. As she pulled them down over my hips, I heard her gasp, taking her bottom lip in her mouth.
"Commando, Edward?" she moaned, and the scent of her arousal in the air intensified.
"I didn't have time earlier..." I began to explain, but cut off as she moved and the rest of the sheet fell away from her and I gazed upon her naked body. My train of thought was lost completely as she started kissing down my chest, over my abs, slowly edging lower and lower, my breath coming in pants, even though I didn't have any need for the oxygen. I closed my eyes and lost myself in the sensations her touch was causing.
I don't know what I expected to happen next, but it wasn't suddenly being enveloped in her warm mouth. I let out a gasp followed by a long moan as she took as much of me in her mouth as she could and wrapped her small hand around the rest. The rhythm of her mouth and hand together was almost too much to bear, and before long I was ready to explode.
"Move, Bella," I managed to get out, but she ignored me and continued her ministrations, laving her tongue across my tip one last time and that was my undoing. I exploded in her mouth with a growl. She swallowed quickly and wiped her hand across her mouth.
"You taste divine," she purred. "I've wanted to do that all morning, but seeing you were going commando was just too much."
Coming down from my high, I flipped her over so she was lying on her back with me above her and captured her lips with mine.
"That was amazing, you are amazing," I proclaimed, in between kisses. "Now, it's your turn"
I continued kissing her as my hand slowly traced it's way down her stomach towards her mound of soft curls, slipping my fingers between her lips, I could feel that she was already very aroused.
"You really did enjoy that, didn't you?" I groaned, slowly circling my finger around her swollen bundle of nerves. "I didn't think girls actually enjoyed that, from what I've read in people's minds, but you are just so wet after that. Tell me that it's only for me, that you are mine and mine alone."
"Y...yours...," she stuttered, "only for you. Please, Edward, I... need... more!"
With that I pushed two fingers deep inside her centre, whilst still rubbing her clit with my thumb, curling my fingers round to reach that sweet spot I'd heard so much about in people's minds. I could feel her muscles begin to tighten around my hand and her pants turned to moans.
"Come," I commanded, "I need to feel you come all over my hand, baby." My words were all it took to send her tumbling over the edge with my favourite sound in the world, my name falling from her lips.
"I am yours too, baby, completely and utterly. You own me," I whispered in her ear as she came back down to earth.
"Wow, you're ready to go again already?" she moaned, feeling my hardness pressing into her thigh.
"Just one of the perks of being a vampire," I smirked, "practically no waiting time."
"What are we waiting for then?" she teased, pushing me onto my back and straddling me. Watching her in this position, her beautiful breasts just above my head, her mahogany hair flowing down, creating a curtain around her face; she was majestic.
She raised herself up slightly and then lowered herself over me, around me. The sensation of being surrounded in her heat, the feeling of becoming one with her like this, was like coming home. I groaned as she sat still, not moving, I needed her to move. Finally, she started rocking her hips, her breasts bouncing as she moved, her head thrown back in pleasure. I moved my hips in time with her movements and soon we were both panting and whispering each others names, until she exploded, her muscles clenching tight around me, milking my own release.
"I love you!" I cried, at the moment of my release, sitting up, holding her close and burying my face in her hair, in her scent, grounding myself as I felt that I might become overwhelmed by the love I had for her.
As I held her in my arms, still inside her, I wondered what she thought of my outburst. We'd not even known each other a full day and I was proclaiming my love for her. She would probably think I was crazy. When she pushed me back from her, I was sure she was going to leave but she just looked deep into my eyes and whispered, "I love you, too."
We lay in bed, naked, wrapped in each others arms, a tangle of arms and legs, all morning, talking and getting to know each other. I told her as much of my human life as I could remember, which wasn't really a lot. I told her more about Carlisle and Esme, and how much I had missed them over the last fifty years. We didn't dwell on how I had spent those fifty years, she already knew the gist of it, and knew how guilty I felt about it all.
She told me about her erratic, hare-brained mother who she'd lived most of her life with. She talked about her like she was the adult and her mother was the child. She had spent her whole life taking care of her mother, cooking the meals, paying the bills; she was mature beyond her years. She also told me that they weren't really close any more, ever since she'd went to live with her dad, they had slowly drifted apart and now only really talked briefly at major holidays. She told me a little more about her dad, how they hadn't really spent much time together growing up and how she had loved living with him for the short time she had. She told me about her high school friends, talking in depth about some and skirting over one boy in particular.
"So, this Jacob, was your boyfriend," I guessed, watching as the blush coloured her face, effectively answering for her. "It's OK," I assured her, "I want to know everything about you, even things like this."
"We dated for about a year," she admitted, "He was more serious about the relationship than I was though. I broke it off when I was moving here. He wanted to keep it going long-distance, but I wasn't into him enough for that."
I had so many questions I wanted to ask, but I wasn't sure what was appropriate. She looked into my eyes and clearly saw that I was holding back.
"Go ahead," she sighed, "Ask. I don't want any secrets between us."
"Were you... intimate with him?" I asked, "It won't change how I feel about you, I just need to know."
"Yes," she whispered, looking down at her hands. "He's the only one I've been with, until you. We were together for quite a long time. First time was after prom, you know, the whole cliché. But," she said, raising her gaze to look me in the eye, "it was nothing compared to last night and this morning with you."
I could see nothing but truth in her eyes, and that helped to quell the possessive monster inside me that wanted to find this boy and rip his head off. I meant it when I said it would never change how I felt about her, but vampires are essentially possessive creatures at heart and it was hard to push that feeling down.
"What about you? Have you been with many other women?" she asked quietly. I shook my head.
"Really?" she marvelled, "But you've been alive for over a hundred years and... I mean... look at you! You're like an Adonis, you must have women after you all the time. I'm surprised how good you are at everything, when you have no experience."
"I meant it when I said I had never felt like this about another woman," I said. "Women have expressed an interest before, but I have never been interested in them in that way. But the moment I laid eyes on you, I wanted you that way, every way. And the mind reading does come in useful sometimes," I added, chuckling lightly as I tapped my finger to my forehead.
"So, where do we go from here?" she queried, a thoughtful look in her eyes. "I'm not sure I ever want to leave this little bubble to go back to my dorm."
"You never have to, if you don't want to," I assured her, "and God knows I don't want to be away from you either. Whatever we decide though, I think I'd like to go back to trying to feed from animals, though that won't be easy in a big city."
"Maybe we could move somewhere else?" she suggested. I was amazed that she would suggest uprooting her life for me so quickly.
"You would do that for me?" I asked, incredulously, "I don't want you to have to uproot your whole life for me. What about college? Your friends?"
"Well, like I said earlier, I'm flunking school anyway," she muttered. "Since, Charlie...my dad died I haven't been able to concentrate enough to keep up with the work. And as for friends, I have a few acquaintances that I hang around with, but no one that close. I haven't really been the best company the last few months, I suppose."
"Besides," she continued, "I would do anything for you. From the first moment our eyes met, I knew that I would do anything for you. This is what you need, and that means it's what I need too. Don't you feel the same?"
I stared at her in awe. She really was made just for me. I knew how people thought, most were essentially selfish deep down. There were not many people out there willing to give everything up for another person, but here was Bella ready to give up everything to be with me, just because it was what I needed right now.
"Of course, I do," I replied, kissing the top of her head gently, "I just can't believe how amazing you are. I don't know what I ever did to deserve you. I am so happy right now. I've spent the last fifty years feeling guilt and shame, now that you have come into my life, all I've felt is more happiness than I ever thought possible."
"Well, that's settled then," she said, cuddling further into my arms. "I'll need to go back to my dorm and collect my things, then we can decide where we are moving to."
We talked for a while about where we might go. Bella asked about what kind of animals I would hunt and, of course, took everything in her stride, with little shock or horror. We talked about the kind of house she'd like to live in and where might be a good place. I told her that somewhere without too much sun would be best for me, and she laughed when I explained why.
"You... sparkle?" she stuttered, though her laughter, "Like a diamond? How... very manly!" She was laughing so hard, she could hardly breathe. Her face was so beautiful lit up in laughter, that though I felt I should be somewhat insulted by her laughter, I couldn't help but smile and join in with her mirth.
"I'm sorry," she said, trying to contain her giggles and failing, "I know I shouldn't laugh, but I honestly wasn't expecting that; it's probably the last thing I thought you'd say about you staying out of the sun."
"Hmmm... no, you shouldn't laugh at me. I think I'll have to find a way to punish you for your insolence," I purred in her ear, flipping her on to her back, smiling at her so that she knew I wasn't really mad at her. I started tickling her sides, causing her to giggle more, which is what I wanted really as she was so stunning when she laughed. When I could no longer help myself, I bent down and pressed my lips to hers, gliding my tongue along her bottom lip, seeking entrance, and our tongues danced together, all laughter forgotten as her glee turned to lust and desire.
"I just can't get enough of you," I breathed into her ear as I entered her, " I want to make love to you all day, every day, forever."
"Forever," she whimpered, as I thrust into her again and again and before long, we were both tumbling off the edge together.
I am totally addicted to reading twilight fanfiction and I love it when authors included recommendations along with their stories, so I'll add some recommendations at the end of each chapter. Some of which gave me inspiration for this story. I'm not a huge fan of all human fanfic so these will mainly be vamp fanfics. Enjoy!
First, the very first fanfiction I ever read, the one that started the addiction -After Nightfall by NightBloomingPeony
In an alternate universe, in which Bella's birthday party incident never happened and Edward never left, the two get married soon after the events of "Twilight". Edward agrees to change her and they plan a trip to Alaska for this. Upon returning, things go terribly wrong. Soon enough, they realize they have to leave their safe haven behind and venture into a nomadic existence.
Also by the same author. It's one of my favourites and I've re-read it a few times.
Stuck in Limbo by NightBloomingPeony.
Edward left Carlisle and Esme behind in 1927, to go hunting for criminals, and never looked back since. When his path crosses with Bella's one fateful evening, there is no denying his desires: he wants her blood and body. Their night of passion ends with him accidentally changing her. What happens when she wakes up by his side, with no recollection of her last night of being human?
