With the arrival of King Snow, Katniss is faced with a quandary. Will she stay and fight or will she take a journey into the past?

I do not own the Hunger Games

A roar erupted from the invading army and lifted into the night air. Those in the castle quaked with fear at the sheer number gathered just beyond the mote. There was a line of knights dressed in suits of armor with white plumes of feathers atop their helmets as they flanked Snow. Their horses danced as they stood in a line waiting for the cry of war. Behind them were men dressed in white, the foot soldiers with spears and swords.

The determining factor for the survival of a siege was the preparedness of those inside the castle.

"Haymitch," King Daniel said, turning to him. "What are we going to do?"

"Prepare for the siege," Haymitch advised.

"Yes," King Daniel said. He began to shout orders to fortify the castle and to begin rationing food. Men began running to do the King's bidding. The castle was on high alert.

Katniss couldn't stop staring at Snow. He wasn't particularly a large man but the dead look on his face spoke of macabre intentions. This was a man who had bloodlust for the dead and dying.

"Come Fletcha," Haymitch said.

Katniss didn't listen. This was the man responsible for the deaths of her family members and the death of Mellark's. Her eyes looked about at the army and she questioned how she was defeating an invading king. She shrunk back.

Haymitch put his hand on her shoulder. He called her name softly.

She looked at him.

"Come."

Katniss nodded and followed him silently.

"Katniss, there is no time to waste," Haymitch said when they reached the room.

"How am I supposed to stop an entire army and a king?"

"You must go back now." Haymitch.

"Go back?" Katniss was shocked by Haymtich's suggestion.

"You have to kill snow and save the kingdom." Haymitch moved about the room quickly gathering her arrows and depositing them in the quiver. "You have to save us all." He handed her bow and quiver.

"But I am not ready," Katniss whispered, scared of what was being asked of her.

"You are and when you find me, give me this," Haymitch handed her a golden cuff. "Tell me to remember who my enemy is."

Katniss held the cuff and her weapons.

"You can do this, you're the one from the prophecy. The one Paylor foretold when Snow and his sister came to the throne."

Katniss looked down at her hands.

"You can save your father, your mother, your sister." Haymitch put a cloak around her shoulder.

"I know, but I am scared to go back."

"Peeta will help you. Find us both…remember no one can see you as a female except for Peeta."

Katniss recalled the kiss and she closed her eyes. She found herself in the room but it was neither day nor night it looked like a vacuum.

"Concentrate…" Haymitch's voice said in the room.

Katniss searched for the gold string. She did not find it. "Where is it?" she asked.

"Focus."

Her mind tried to find the connection but her hands were full she pushed the cloak to the side to slide her bow and quiver onto her back, and put the gold cuff over her wrist. Katniss took a deep breath and began to do as Haymitch had instructed.

She began to look for the threads, but she fell backward and heard the shattering of time before it began to reform itself into several strands. "Which one?"

"Find the strand that leads to us." Haymitch's voice faded.

Katniss saw a gold strand that looked thin following it she stepped further and further away from the room. There were many doors but she did not pay attention to them. She only followed the gold string until it led to a door. Katniss touched the door and it vibrated the moment she touched it. Taking a deep breath, she stepped through it and found herself in the middle of the road.

She didn't know where she was. Disoriented Katniss stumbled about until she saw a caravan approaching. The caravan stopped, and her vision blurred; she saw two tall men approach her on horses before everything narrowed. "Peeta," she whispered right before she fainted.

When next she awoke it was to find an elderly woman tending to the moaning and groans of the women who were inside of the covered cart. Katniss wished she could move but she was tethered to the floor. The flap was opened and she could see men with torches moving about, in the dark. The elderly lady approached her and placed a bottle at her lips.

Katniss' sense of smell let her know it was something sweet by her lips. She didn't want to drink it but she was thirsty. The syrupy liquid soothed her parched throat and filled her stomach, but it made her sleepy. Before she knew it she was fast asleep once more.

They traveled day and night. Katniss woke up for what felt like days on end the old lady came every night she was awake to feed her the syrup. The last time she tried to speak to the woman, "Where am I?"

The woman smiled and pushed the bottle to her lips.

"Please, some information," Katniss whispered.

The old woman grunted. Katniss obediently drank the syrup. When she awoke next, she was in a room whose walls were made from mud. She was one of many boys in the room. They were free but they might have well been bound. The door opened, and warriors walked in with an older man with a pudgy middle laughed.

The two men grabbed Katniss by her arm and held her up.

The man walked around her imperiously looking at her. Katniss was surprised momentarily when he spoke her native tongue, "He'll do."

"I am sure he'll fetch a high price, Snow needs soldiers."

"This one is an archer by the look of his weapons."

Katniss growled and punched the man in the face and he fell backward. Seeing her opportunity, she ran through the open door out into freedom. She looked about before choosing a route. There were stone homes, ones made from wood, and others made of mixed hard clay. She ran deeper and deeper into the town. The throng of people hid her escape. Katniss looked back and ran straight into a man. She fell onto her back. She saw the man with the long reddish hair laugh at the sight of her. When he bent to touch her a pulse of magic came out of her like electricity and threw him to the ground.

Getting up everyone stepped away from her. The man whom she accidentally hurt got up and rubbed his chest. He walked over to her and extended his hand in friendship. "You must be looking for Haymitch?"

"Yes, how do I find him?"

"Follow me, I'm Finnick by the way."

Katniss watched others move away from her as she followed the man named Finnick. He brought her to the outskirts of the town. It was a big house and there were guards surrounding the building. They let them through.

Haymitch sat in a chair with his head between his hands.

"Haymitch," Katniss called out.

He looked up, and frowned.

He was drunk, he smiled and laughed at her then he threw up.

"We need to clean him up."

Katniss turned around and saw him, her soulmate Peeta standing in the room. He stared at her and then he said, "YOU!"
