Sorry for my bad English.
My humble apologies for taking so long to update this one. But I did not know to where to go from here. While I already planned what to do up ahead, the road to there is a hard one to make.
I wrote and rewrote this chapter so many times but I could never reach an acceptable level that I wanted. So in order to make sure this still is going, I wrote what I could and decide to update.
I will try to be better in the future chapters and hope to not take so long to update this or my other stories.
To the fic!
Miles never was an emotive man, so Ceodore was not surprised to see his lack of reaction upon standing in front of the grave whose name belonged to the mother of his daughter.
It seems that Yousei Flower become sick and lost the battle with the sickness after a whole year of fighting against it.
While Sylph could not hold back her tears, Ceodore could only wonder what was going on in his master's mind.
-He cares... -Ceodore heard Sylph speaks.
-What?
-He may not show... but he cared about her...
-H-how did you know that? -Ceodore asked, not wanting to sound rude but curious as to why he thought Sylph think like that.
-He would not have come if he did not care. -Sylph said with a small smile appearing on her face.
Ceodore turns back to his master, who does not take his eyes from the grave.
Yousei Flower was a sweet woman, very compassionate, the type who a man would kneel before to just see her smile.
And so, the curiosity about his master's presence there is soon replaced with the curiosity about how Miles was able to get the heard of such a woman like Yousei.
The week sure was agitated for Beacon.
Ozpin did not expect the White Fang to be experimenting with miasma, and to make the matter worst it seems Ironwood was right. Their enemies were already trying to find a way to use miasma but on the bright side, it seems they are nowhere near to discovering how to properly use it. Not that the scientist of Atlas is near a huge discovery either.
For years they tried to discover how Miles survived so long with miasma that somehow, also gave him longevity. So it is an understatement that they were confused about how something that killed a lot of people in Remnant made one man live longer.
He didn't expect to live for so long and still get surprised like that.
He remembers the first time he heard about Miles, about how a man who was a soldier in Arcadia got showered with miasma and was declared dead. Only for him to walk away like was nothing.
From what he heard, they wanted to know how this was possible so they decide to sacrifice him and use his body for research.
-So, you are the apprentice everyone heard so much about. -Winter began, still inside the tank, a vision a bit strange for Ceodore. -I'll admit, you are nothing like I was expecting.
-I heard that before. -Ceodore commented.
-Can you blame those who think like that? -Winter asked. -The Dark Knight himself leaves quite an impression on people.
-Again, I heard that before. -Ceodore stated. -I think it is one of the reasons my master often stays away from big cities.
-One of the reasons?
-He never liked to deal with other people.
-I see. You probably heard about that as well, but do your master ever tell you how he was able to survive with miasma for so long?
-I rather not talk about my master, commander.
Winter heard about this but did not hurt to try. But there was one thing that troubled a lot of minds regarding miasma.
-May I ask why he never ever tried to help those infected?
-He tried once but did not end as he expected.
-What do you mean?
-He did not say but is related to Arcadia.
Ceodore was probably talking about how he went from a soldier of Arcadia to the city's destruction. According to the few survivors, Miles was put in the medical bay immediately after his infection.
The doctors were surprised to see his body filled with miasma but different from the others, his body seemed to adapt too well to the dark energy. So of course, he was asked to aid in the research.
Sometime later it was said the miasma in his body actually killed him. A story that people believed easily after so many were taken. Then one day, he just got up completely alive and went on a rampage on the kingdom.
One of the survivors actually said he was conscious all the time, different from some reports saying that the miasma made him more aggressive. Winter had a hard time believing some parts of the story.
First, they said his body adapted to miasma, then they said it killed him? Some people start with no symptoms, but after a while, they start to show signs of common diseases. He never show any symptoms even after a month with miasma in his body, so how come the miasma in his body killed him?
Second, he may not be the first one to lose control but surely the way described by the survivors sounded strange to her. Normally, one who loses control never died before going on a rampage, and most certainly never was resurrected. He so far was the only one who was declared dead, then returned causing a rampage.
While was undeniable what he did, it really was a rampage caused by uncontrollable fury compared to a Grimm. Or there was a reason for that?
The week was productive for Fido.
His research proved to be fruitful regarding what they did to the Grimms. The empty dust he used to store miasma was strong enough to hold the evil energy in place. And finally, Neo was assigned to a job by her boss and would not be back until the next week, leaving the dog faunus with some peace. She was cute but terrifying.
Her boss, however, was still around to check the progress. And speaking of the devil, there he was.
-So, how is my favorite dog is going? -He asked.
-I'm your favorite dog? -Fido asked with a raised eyebrow.
-Well, you don't snarl when you see me, that's good enough in my book. -Roman answered before noticing what was on the table. -This is what I think it is?
-Yes. -Fido answer before looking back at his work. -After what the apprentice did in the Vale a couple of days ago, I studied the capabilities of miasma when applied to dust.
-Discover something interesting?
-Nothing that no one knows. -Fido answered, scratching his dog ear. -It works like a disease, spreading through people's aura and infecting them, or it is what that specialist says.
-What do you mean?
-It seems more like a hungry animal, taking another one's territory. It attacks people's aura and takes control of the body. So the question is, where is the aura infected go?
Roman was not a specialist in miasma and the most complex part of dust. He just steals and there, is nothing else. But even he was impressed with what the dog boy discovered. Diseases while being an infection it was only this, an infection. Fido, however, just saw that miasma is almost conscious to the point of attacking aura.
No wonder the White Fang wants him around. Meh, the loss is for those high ranks of bureaucrats who stole his work.
Fido once worked for one of the branches of the Schnee Dust Company. One day, he had an idea of how to compress dust, and take kilos of dust into a small gram. They could charge the same price for a kilo and it was more accessible to the public.
But when he shows to his superiors the idea, they said the idea of a company was to make money and this would make earning money difficult. But surprise surprise, a month later the compressed dust was being sold in the stores. The superior who he showed the idea to steal his work and sold as if were his.
Naturally, Fido tried to take the credit he deserved, with ended up with him losing his job and having a stain on his name. No place that works with dust would ever hire him again.
With few choices and wanting some payback, he joined the dark side. Knowing the place like the palm of his hand, he helped a group of White Fang invade his old workplace and steal user information.
Schedule for dust transport, some dirty from those entrepreneurs, some neat pieces of technology for them to use, and the dog faunus put on fire the desk of the superior who stole his work.
His knowledge proved to be useful for the White Fang, and he was doing well studying miasma so like Roman thought, their lost.
Which also made him feel a little bad. He was starting to warm up to the dog faunus, which would make saying goodbye to him harder for him and Neo.
-Meh. Life continued. -Roman thought while taking his leave.
What he just heard from the dog faunus would sure be entertaining. No wonder Neo loves him.
-Ms. Flower, may I ask the reason for your visit? -Ozpin asked, still not believing he was in the presence of the daughter of the most dangerous man to ever walk in Remnant.
Sylph pulled nothing from her father. Her green hair reached her neck, her V-neck blouse exposed most of her shoulders, and the collar she was wearing with a red jewel right on the center.
Her skirt was also white in color and the sandals she wears has a lace-up design that reached her ankles.
Her blue eyes sparkled with innocence and her smile could make a Grimm melt.
While the headmaster found it hard to believe at first, he then remembers Ceodore mentioning she pushed more of her mother.
-I just want to see how Ceodore is doing, if it is okay?
-No need to worry about Ms. Flower. -Ozpin answered as she took a sip of her tea. -I'm sorry but it is just he is not in the academy at the moment.
-I've heard he got himself some problems in the city. -Sylph said while Ozpin took a sip of his coffee. -Will it take too much time for him to return?
-I assure you that it is just a standard proceeding. He will be back soon. But since you are in my presence, mind if I make a couple of questions?
-I'm afraid I will be of no help regarding anything related to miasma, headmaster. -Sylph answered, putting her cup down.
-And about your father?
-What about him?
-I do not wish you to tell me, but do you know his current location?
-No, when Ceodore come here to Beacon, he started to walk again. Since then, it was hard for me to keep track of his whereabouts.
-I see. -Of course, Ozpin knew it was not going to be easy.
He wondered how come Miles was able to walk around without anyone noticing his presence. It is not like the authorities are not trying to arrest him or anything. How come anyone never mentions seeing him?
How he keeps himself out of his sight? It is his semblance?
He once heard that miasma can somehow affect the user's semblance in chaotic ways. But for Miles seemed unlikely.
Unbeknownst to them, another surprise visitant was lurking around the academy. It was the same one from the attack during the dance.
He was frustrated. Nothing he was doing was making him closer to his goal and getting on his nerves. He saw a team walking back to their dorms and decide to take his anger on them.
The apprentice was not around, so someone would have to take for mankind.
Nah, he just wanted to beat the crap out of someone.
End of the chapter.
I really should make time to rewrite the first chapter. I got a lot of critics about the terrible gramar I had. Could be good since I taking too much time to update this.
But I got this on myself when I decide to write in a language at the time, I was not used to write. I tried once write in portuguese but the feedback was not nearly as good as when I put the first chapter in English. I could have tried to write in both languages for a change.
I will see if I can put some Ruby x Jaune next time since it was promised for those who voted on the poll I made long time ago.
That's all for now. See you next time.
