Beck's show very quickly becomes its network's second highest-rated program, coming in second to only it's counterpart, LA Med. It offers the same drama and romance that viewers are used to seeing on the other show, but with a different plot and a fresh cast of faces. Beck's follower count more than quadruples in the first three weeks that the show is on the air, and he's recognized in public more frequently than he was before. While exciting, it's all a bit overwhelming as well. Thankfully, Jade is always by his side to ground him and be a voice of reason in all of the newness and uncertainty.

"Do you ever read the things that people tweet at you?" She asks, laying on her back on top of his bed as she scrolls through her feed "Some of them are pretty funny."

"No, everyone has advised me not to." Beck admits "Because for every nice tweet or funny tweet there will probably be about six or seven negative ones."

He has his social media set up to only alert him when someone he's already following tags him in something or tweets at him, it minimizes his chances of seeing something hurtful. Based on what Jade, Andre, and his family tells him, his character is pretty well-received, but he knows there will always be haters regardless of the circumstance. He's grateful for the love he receives from his new group of, dare he say, fans, but he also wants to protect his peace.

"Fair enough." Jade shrugs as she exits the app and sets her phone down beside her on the bed "I guess one day I'll have to learn that lesson for myself, huh?"

"One day not too long from now, I bet." Beck tells her with a smirk as he crawls on top of her "You'll make me look like old news."

He offers her a quick peck on the lips, which turns into a full on kiss before Beck breaks away and rolls to the side so he's laying next to Jade.

"I liked where that was going..." Jade pouts "Why'd you stop?"

"Because we would have gotten carried away and ended up late." Beck laughs "And you would have gotten upset because you didn't have time to do your hair the way that you wanted to."

"Hey I-no, you're right, that's exactly what would have happened." She sighs "How long until we need to leave?"

"About forty-five minutes." Beck says as he checks his watch "Trying to get to Midtown at this time on a Saturday night will take forever."

"Look at you, learning the traffic patterns." Jade smirks, turning her head towards him "You almost sound like a local."

"Almost?"

"Almost." She nods "Not quite all the way there yet, but you're getting closer. I'm actually kind of impressed. In the grand scheme of things, you haven't really lived here that long."

"S'true, I guess." Beck chuckles "S'what? Middle of October? That would mean I've been here six months, and I've been dating a real local for close to five of those months. So it makes sense that I've made some progress."

"Sure does." Jade chuckles as she leans over to kiss him "I love you."

"I love you too." He smiles at her "But, as much as I love you, I need to shower before we go. So as great as it would be to just lay here and talk for a while, I've gotta get up."

"Fine..." Jade sighs as Beck sits up "If you must."

The Vancouver Canucks, Beck's favorite hockey team, are in town to play the New York Rangers. A life long hockey fan, Beck is excited to take Jade to the game. They're going to dinner in Midtown before meeting Andre and Tori at Madison Square Garden. Someone at the studio where Beck films had been able to hook him up with seats in the 100-level bowl, they'll have a great view of the game.

"Don't forget that I got you that jersey to wear." Beck reminds Jade as he starts towards the bathroom

Beck himself had a jersey to wear of course, but he didn't want Jade to feel left out. He had ordered her a women's cut jersey, simple navy blue with the team's logo on the front, blank on the back with no name. He figures if she ends up wanting a specific player or a custom one with her name on it, he can get it for her down the road. But for now, simple will do.

"I feel like I'm cheating on the entire city by wearing this!" Jade laughs as she changes out of her hoodie and into the jersey "Seriously, a life-long New Yorker wearing another team's jersey."

"Seeing as you showed absolutely zero interest in hockey until you met me, I think the entire city will forgive you for wearing my team's jersey." Beck assures her right before he closes the bathroom door "Alright, I'll be done in like ten minutes."

"I'm timing you!"

"Okay!"

It's true that Jade showed zero interest in hockey until she met Beck. As a child, her father had taken her to a Ranger's game because he had gotten tickets through work, but neither one of them had been all that interested in the game. Her dad had always been more interested in baseball and football, and Jade was too young to appreciate what was happening. She must've still been elementary school-aged.

Jade inherited her father's love of baseball and football to some extent. She knows how both games work, but she would say she prefers baseball over football unless she has some kind of stake in the game. Since meeting Beck though, she's learned quite a bit about hockey. She still doesn't know quite as much about the game as she does about other sports, but she's learning. She's found it kind of cute how excited Beck is to take her to a game, especially a game where his favorite team is playing. Having lived in a suburb of Vancouver when he was young, it's safe to say he's been a fan of the team for his whole life.

Beck is finished showering just as Jade is putting the finishing touches on her hair. While he changes into a pair of jeans and his own jersey, she's able to quickly do her makeup and finish getting ready as well.

"You look hot in that jersey, babe." Beck tells her as he comes up behind her in the mirror "Hockey looks good on you."

"Why thank you." Jade smirks "Would you still say that if it were a Ranger's jersey?"

"Hm..." Beck ponders for a moment "Honestly, you look hot in anything, so yes. But I wouldn't love the logo."

"Fair enough."

"Seriously though, the blue really makes your eyes pop." Beck spins Jade around so that they're facing each other "You look great."

"Thank you." She smiles as he leans in to kiss her "You look pretty handsome yourself."

"Thanks." He tells her as he rests his forehead against her's "We should probably get going soon. Don't want to miss that reservation."

"I have no idea what is going on." Tori admits as the whistle blows "Why did they stop that guy? He didn't do anything!"

"S'called icing." Andre tells her "He shot the puck all the way down to the other team's goal line, and they blew the whistle because it's a penalty."

"Why is that a penalty?" Tori asks "Having bad aim is a penalty?"

"It's to prevent all of the players from rushing down there at once and colliding with each other." Andre laughs "And to keep people from just shooting the puck randomly all over the ice just because they want to or can."

"That made no sense, but I'll pretend that it did."

"I didn't know you were so into hockey too, Andre." Jade says as the game continues

"I really wasn't until I met your boyfriend." Andre admits with a laugh "He got all of our high school friends into it. We used to go to Kings games all the time. Especially when the Canucks were in town."

"That sounds like it tracks." Jade laughs, looking to Beck

"What can I say? I'm influential." Beck shrugs "Oh! Here's the camera guy! Get ready!"

As part of the agreement for getting the tickets, Beck had agreed to appear on the video screen during a break in the game. A banner with his name and the show's name will appear on the screen as well. Beck and the show get free publicity, and the Rangers look good because a network television star is attending their game. They've no doubt already appeared on camera for the people watching at home, Beck has seen enough sporting events on television in his life to know that the cameramen take every opportunity that they can to highlight the famous people in the crowd.

"Everybody wave!" The cameraman instructs as he gives them a thumbs up from behind the lens

Beck wraps an arm around Jade and both of them wave to the camera, Tori and Andre waving behind them. When Jade looks up at the video screen, she can see that really only she and Beck are in view. It makes sense, she supposes, people really only care about seeing him anyway. A banner appears across the bottom that says 'Beck Oliver: Actor - Manhattan Med' and then within a matter of seconds, the score has returned to the screen.

Jade isn't sure how to feel, she's never been on any kind of video screen before. Let alone been on a video screen with her famous television-star boyfriend.

"That was so cool!" Beck admits "Did anyone get a picture?"

It would definitely be worth sending to his father and grandfather if anyone had.

"No, sorry man." Andre apologizes "If you wait long enough though, I'm sure someone will tweet it out."

"Alright."

"Oh my god, it is him!" A voice beside them squeals

All four friends look to their right to see two young girls, probably no older than high school, standing in the aisle beside their seats looking at Beck.

"They're not talking to me man." Andre laughs as he playfully hits Beck's shoulder "They've gotta be for you."

"Beck! Hi!" One of them has the courage to speak "We thought it might be you but we weren't sure until we saw you on the screen. We love you on Manhattan Med!"

"Thanks, ladies." Beck smiles "Glad you like the show."

This isn't his first fan encounter, he's had quite a few by now. He knows by now what to say and how to act so that he doesn't come across as rude, but still maintains boundaries.

"Can we get a selfie?" The other girl asks

"Uh, sure. Really quick." Beck tells them as he stands up "But I'm here to watch the game with my friends."

"Okay!"

Beck quickly poses for a selfie with them and one of the girls snaps the picture. He offers each of them a hug and tells them it was nice to meet them before sitting down again and wrapping an arm around Jade's shoulders.

"Is that your girlfriend?" The first girl asks

"Sure is."

"You're really pretty!" She tells Jade

"Thanks." Jade smiles at her

She isn't sure how else she can respond to a comment like that, but she will admit that it makes her feel good.

"Alright ladies, keep the aisles clear." A security guard tells the girls "Especially when the puck is in play. Back to your seats!"

"Okay, sorry! Bye Beck!"

"Bye..." Beck waves as they turn to go back to their seats

"That was sweet." Jade remarks

"Oh yeah?" Beck laughs "It didn't make you jealous?"

"No." Jade laughs "They were like twelve."

"They seemed to like you."

"They told me I was pretty, that doesn't mean they liked me." She says "Besides, they probably only said it to make you like them more."

"Well, it was nice of them regardless."

"...yeah, it was."

"Are you guys coming over to watch football tomorrow?" Andre asks as they file out of Madison Square Garden with the rest of the crowd

Vancouver beat New York 3-1, so Beck is thrilled. He hides his excitement though, knowing he's already part of the minority of fans in Vancouver gear. He doesn't want to end up getting heckled...or punched.

He holds tight to Jade's hand as they make their way through the crowd, not wanting to end up separated from her.

"Probably not, man. Sorry." Beck sighs "I have lines I have to learn by Monday morning and Jade has midterms coming up that she needs to study for."

"Fair enough, no worries." Andre assures him "We're going to head this way though, we'll see you guys later. Thanks for the invite!"

"No problem!"

Although Tori also attends NYU, she spends most weekends with Andre at his apartment near Juilliard. There's no sense in them trying to stay with Beck and Jade when each couple is headed in a completely different direction.

"You could've gone to watch football tomorrow if you wanted to." Jade tells him as they walk "Don't think I can't do homework by myself."

"Nah, I'd rather spend a lazy day with you." Beck admits

"Well, okay then." Jade smiles

"Hey man, love the show!"

"Thanks, man!" Beck responds "I have no idea who that was."

"Do you ever?" Jade laughs

People say things like that to him all the time now, usually strangers on the street or in restaurants. With each episode, the show becomes more and more popular, and so does Beck.

Cold air hits them as they exit the arena. With it being October now, the days are still warm sometimes but the nights have become much colder. Jade shivers and moves closer to Beck as they begin walking down the block towards the spot where they were told their Uber is waiting.

"Beck! Over here!" Someone yells

"No! This way!"

The voices are followed by bright flashes of light; camera flashes. Six paparazzi rush towards the couple, yelling and pointing cameras in their faces.

"What the fuck?" Jade can't help but exclaim

"How was the game, dude? You look like you'd be happy with the outcome!"

"Not now, guys." Beck groans "Not cool."

"Do you know them?" Jade asks

"Of course I don't know them! They're paparazzi."

"This your girlfriend?" One of them asks, his tone a bit harsh and aggressive "What's your name, sweetheart?"

"Stop yelling at us." Beck demands "Babe, don't talk to them."

"Babe." Another man says "That's so fucking cute!"

"Look if you want pictures or an interview, call my agent and set it up." Beck says to them as he and Jade continue walking "Don't try to ambush me when I'm out with my girlfriend."

"S'a free country, dude!" The paparazzi tells him "We're trying to make a living the same as you!"

"S'kinda sad, don't you think?" Jade cuts in "Making a living by invading people's privacy?"

"She's feisty, I like her! What's your name?"

"Jade."

"Jade!" All three men say in unison

"S'nice to meet you, Jade."

"Wish I could say the same."

"She's smokin', Beck! Look at those legs!" Another paparazzi cuts in "I'd probably be the happiest guy alive if I had a girl like that to fu-"

"Alright, that's enough!" Beck snaps at the paparazzi as the car comes into view "You guys got your pictures, now get out of here! And don't talk about my girlfriend like that!"

"Just a few more!"

Beck puts a hand over his face and Jade does the same as they approach the car. He opens the door for her to climb inside before running around to the other side to do the same. Even though they're inside the vehicle, the paparazzi are still trying to get pictures of them through the window.

"Any chance you can shake these guys?" Beck asks the driver

"Absolutely." The driver nods as he signals to pull into traffic "Man, what assholes."

"I told you not to talk to them..." Beck sighs, turning to Jade "They like to twist words."

"All I told them was my name." Jade reminds him "Which they could have found out by looking at your instagram page anyway."

"You also told them it was sad that they make their living by invading other people's privacy."

"Well, it is!"

Beck runs a hand through his hair with a sigh, then begins to rub his temples.

"Hey..." Jade places a hand on his shoulder "Are you alright?"

"Yeah, I will be." Beck assures her, placing his own hand on top of her's "Are you?"

"Yeah." She nods with a small smile "I'm okay."

She isn't smiling because she's happy with the situation, not at all. Actually, she thinks it's pretty fucked up. Beck had come to her defense though, rather than just ignoring the photographer's inappropriate comments. That makes her smile.

"I'm sorry they were crude."

"I go to college in New York, I can handle a little cat-calling."

"You shouldn't have to though."

"I had you to protect me..." She reminds him "S'okay, babe."

"I just...that's never happened to me before." Beck is close to speechless "The paparazzi with the cameras getting in my face. I know they've caught me before, but they were hiding out of sight. I've never had that hostile of an interaction with them before."

"For what it's worth, I think you handled it well..." Jade tells him, rubbing his back "I'm sorry that it freaked you out."

"S'part of the job, I guess." Beck shrugs "I'm sorry that they went after you too."

"Hey, we knew it would happen eventually." Jade reminds him "I want to work in the industry too, I'll have to get used to it. S'part of the job unfortunately. I can't think of a single celebrity who doesn't have to go through it."

"S'not right. It shouldn't be legal." Beck sighs

"I agree." Jade nods "For what it's worth though, there are some of them that are pretty nice. Or at least that's what I've heard. My only real experience with them was just now...and I guess it could have gone worse."

"I guess." Beck agrees as he takes Jade's hands and laces their fingers together "I'm sorry that had to put such a damper on the night."

"Hey, that was five to eight-ish minutes of the whole night. The rest of it was great." Jade assures him "I had a lot of fun."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah." She smiles, squeezing his hand "I'm glad we went."

"Me too." Beck leans over to give her a kiss "Thanks for humoring me. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. I love you."

"I love you too."
