Chapter 14
Before tackling the Treant Boss challenge, Harry decided to retreat into the tunnel to take a breather and devise a game plan.
"Why are we stopping?" Celeste asked.
"We made some gains, and I wanted to discuss our tactics for the fight."
His nerves had nothing to do with it, not at all. Celeste snorted as if she doubted his reasoning.
'I'd like to get out of this underground place as soon as possible.' Hedwig said.
As he sat against the wall, he winced when he knocked his arm against the wall. Is that supposed to hurt? At first, he didn't know if there was a way to see the progress of his newly crafted wand. However, he noticed an extra addition to the equipment tab. The new wand had appeared in a slot.
When Harry examined it, he got nothing but a timer saying the wand would be ready in two weeks. He didn't know why it would take so long, considering Isabelle had said it would only take two days at most. However, it wasn't too critical, as he still had his practice wand. Furthermore, it was also affected by Dungeon time, so it wouldn't be too long before he had his new wand in his hands.
Harry and Hedwig had made significant gains during their run through the Dungeon, making Celeste jealous. Since she could take it easy and consume Shadow Essences to level up, he didn't understand her problem.
He used Gaia to get a summary of their progress.

After seeing that she had learned a magic spell, Harry put five AP into her Magic and another five into her HP. She suddenly became a viable damage dealer due to her armour's ability to boost wind damage by fifty per cent. Most importantly, she didn't have to get close to deal damage.
There was a noticeable improvement in her parameters afterwards.

By this time, the food buff had run out. As a result of his experiments, he concluded that the buff could be reapplied every six hours. This is generally how long it takes them to feel hungry again after eating. He still needed to consume three times as much food to compensate for his malnutrition. However, that was not a hardship as he got to eat a lot of delicious food.
Harry had been keeping meticulous notes of how the Instant Dungeons affected his age and his progression in getting rid of his malnutrition. By his account, he was already a day older. He has made excellent progress in removing his detriment. His daily fitness routine was strictly followed, except when he was in France. Combined with the time that had already passed since he had first received the detriment, he had almost completed a month out of the three needed.
He noticed that his Control decreased even further after he increased his Magic, which would soon affect some of his Charm Spells. It was only by increasing the Meditation skill that he could combat it.
Harry suddenly had an idea. He retrieved the Phoenix wand from his inventory and examined it.
Phoenix Wand | Equipment | Rare | Grade: 3
A soft and supple wand that measures eleven inches long and is made from a branch of Holly. It holds within it a Phoenix feather, which was donated by Fawkes, Albus Dumbledore's familiar. It is pertinent to note that due to the user's status as a Mage, this wand will not last long and cannot be repaired.
• + 30% potency with Light magic.
• + 30% potency with Defensive Charms
• +20% Control
• Durability: 60/60
Harry grinned, pleased that he had found a temporary solution. Then, he swapped out the practice wand for the Phoenix wand and waved it around for a minute in order to get used to it.
Before he faced the boss, there was one last thing he had to do. It probably wasn't necessary, as he still had enough Mana, but he wanted to continue levelling Meditation. He valued the skill so highly. Not only could he replenish his Mana, but it also increased his Control.
Harry turned to Hedwig. "Hey, girl, we should meditate to restore our Mana. How are you getting on with this skill?"
'I can enter a meditative state easily now.'
"That's my girl. Celeste, can you keep an eye out? It's going to take a while."
To replenish his Mana, he needed to meditate for five hours at the current regeneration rate, which equated to thirty Mana being restored every hour.
"Sure," Celeste waved her hand idly.
After meditating, Harry increased his skill level by one and was now ready to face the boss. "Alright, let's do this."
Harry told them about his first experience fighting the Treant. With that information, they came up with a plan of attack. They then headed back to the cavern where the Treant was waiting.
First, Harry observed the Treant to get its parameters.
Shadow Horror Treant ~ Type: Boss ~ Level: 5

Harvesting: -
Description: The Shadow Horror Treant was created by Victor, the mad scientist, experimenting with stolen Shadow magic. Its roots attached to its back are, in fact, the source of the corruption of the surrounding woods, which deliver shadow magic to the living things residing in them.
"I'm going to have to grind this boss a lot," Harry whistled. "That's some nice loot."
"Hey, that's my line," Celeste complained.
Celeste advanced first, under concealment. She launched a Shadow Spike at the Treant as she was flying above its head. Because it was resistant to the Shadow element, the attack was not used to damage the monster, but rather to attract its attention.
Treant has received 0 damage.
The Treant came to life, and Celeste cancelled her invisibility. After activating her Taunt ability, she flew higher into the air, avoiding the massive arm that swung in her direction.
At this point, Hedwig flew over from the other side and conjured up her new spell. A small blade of wind appeared in front of her, which flew down and struck the Treant on the top of its head.
Treant has received 1 damage.
HP: 179/180
Due to its defence, the two familiars would not be dealing any damage to the Treant. They were, however, playing a different role in the battle. They were working together to turn it around, so it faced the opposite direction from Harry. A few more exchanges later, the Treant yielded to their efforts.
After creeping into the clearing, Harry approached the back of the Treant, where pulsating roots protruded from the wall and attached themselves to the monster. There was a weak spot where the roots joined the Treant's body, which he had exploited last time. This time he would aim at the underside, as he would not be able to climb on top of the roots without being noticed.
After conjuring two fireballs, he fired them, the basketball-sized spheres shooting forward and exploding on impact.
Back Attack! The Treant has received 41 damage x 2.
HP: 97/180
Harry ran for his life as the Treant roared.
Thanks to his Running skill and agility shoes, he was able to avoid the tremors that resulted from the Treant's foot slamming down on the ground where he had been standing.
Celeste and Hedwig continued their bombardment, but wisely, the Treant ignored them as they were not considered a threat. Celeste's taunts didn't seem to work anymore. Is it possible that this is due to the fact that she didn't cause any damage? Could it be that it was so focused on him for having done so much damage to it?
Harry knew what was coming next, so he dodged to the side as sharp roots speared out of the ground. He had to keep moving as the roots underfoot could tangle his feet. After becoming proficient at Basic Fireball, he was able to cast fireballs on the move.
Hedwig hovered to the side of the Treant and summoned an Air Cutter. She aimed carefully at its eyes, having all the time in the world as she was being ignored. In flawless synchronisation, Harry fired the fireballs at the Treant's body while Hedwig released the Air Cutter.
The Treant raised a wall of vines in front of it to block the fireballs; however, it was too distracted to notice the incoming attack from Hedwig, and the blades of wind struck it in the eye.
Critical hit! Treant has taken 7 damage!
HP: 90/180
Treant is blinded in one eye!
The Treant roared and covered its eye with its hand, and the wall of roots disappeared back into the ground. Harry immediately cast Immolate under its feet. It could not escape the attack because the roots restricted it to the centre of the cavern.
Treant has received 0 damage from Immolate.
Treant has received 2 damage from dot (damage over time).
Treant has received 3 damage from dot.
…
HP: 73/180
As the Treant was blinded and distracted by the surge of flames that erupted from the ground, Harry was able to run around the treant until he was able to get behind it once again.
He fired off another two fireballs.
Back Attack! The Treant has received 39 damage x 2.
The Treant has died.

"Man, that was one heck of a fight!" Harry exclaimed. "The Treant didn't even score a hit on us."
"I'm awesome, yeah!" Celeste shouted as she pumped her fist.
'Your contributions would say otherwise.'
"Hey! It just so happens that this hulking fella is resistant to my magic," Celeste protested.
"No arguments," Harry said. "You both did well."
Harry stepped forward and looted the corpse. A pile of loot appeared, and Celeste flew over to inspect it. When Harry looked at what he had received, he was pleasantly surprised by what he found.
First, he collected the money and the tree sap, which he placed in his inventory immediately as it wasn't that interesting. Next, he handed Celeste the Superior Shadow essence.
"I haven't bothered to examine it, but what makes it different from the normal Shadow Essence?" Harry asked.
"Basically, it's a lot more experience for the same amount of effort," Celeste replied. "Since I can only absorb one a day, it's more effective to absorb these than the normal ones."
"Well, we are going to be grinding the Dungeon a lot," Harry said with a nod before returning his attention to the remaining loot. There was only one more item, which sounded terrible considering the loot pool, but it just so happened to be a new set-piece item.
Shadow Aspen Breeches | Equipment | Uncommon | Grade: -
Description: The Shadow Aspen Breeches are part of the Shadow Aspen Armour set. Although they may look shabby and may not be the most comfortable, their defence and utility are undeniable. Obtain some bonus perks by equipping all the pieces of the set.
• Defence: 5
• Magical Defence: 5

• Blunt Defence: D
• Piercing Defence: F
Set Bonuses
• [2/5] + 5 Defence, + 5 Magic Defence
• [4/5] + 20% Shadow Resistance
• [5/5] - Skill: Shadow Fade
Harry equipped them immediately, and they were just as uncomfortable as the Jerkin but bearable. After triggering the first set bonus, there was a significant increase in his Defence and Magical Defence. He was now eager to collect the entire set and take advantage of all of its benefits. There was one more piece he needed to get from the Treant, but the other two were with the Sentinel.
"Now you look even uglier," Celeste giggled.
Harry rolled his eyes. "I don't think it is a matter of fashion, at least not in the dungeon. In any case, I wonder if the lab still possesses the golden treasure chest?"
"I forgot about that," Celeste exclaimed as she flew down the stairs.
Hedwig landed on his shoulder, her talons gripping tightly. 'She is going to be the death of us one day. What if an enemy is waiting down there?'
"There shouldn't be," Harry said, following Celeste down the steps. "There is no real difference between this and the original Dungeon I conquered. Everything has remained the same so far."
"I can't find it," Celeste wailed in anguish.
"So it was a one-off," Harry said with a shrug. "Can't have everything."
Looking around, Harry remembered the quest related to Celeste. He needed to find clues about Victor, the mad scientist who kidnapped her. He didn't discover anything despite searching the entire lab and leaving no stone unturned. He would have to look elsewhere for information.
Hedwig stared at the jars on the shelf before turning to Celeste. 'How long were you stuck down here?'
"I can't recall," Celeste sighed. "A lot of time has passed, much more than you could ever imagine. Remember that time passes three times slower in the Dungeon than in the outside world? I wouldn't be surprised if my time here surpassed a century."
"What? How could that be possible?" Harry looked at the fairy in disbelief. "I don't understand how you have not been driven insane."
"My time inside the jar is hazy to me. There were times when I would spend years in a sort of coma, only to wake up and realise that I was still there. It made me feel so much despair."
Harry took hold of the fairy and held her to his chest. "Nothing like that will ever happen again if I have anything to say about it."
'How are you still alive?'
"Fairies have a long life span," Celeste said. "They are capable of living for hundreds of years. Although considering that the man stole my magic, I probably shouldn't be alive at all."
"Why is that so?" Harry asked.
"Fairies are magical beings, and we need magic like humans need air. Take that away, and we will die."
"In the end, he decided that he was done with you, so he just left you here to die. But why didn't you?" Harry nearly squeezed Celeste too hard in his anger, which caused Celeste to complain in discomfort. He stroked her wings as an apology and lifted her onto his shoulder.
'Could it have been Gaia?' Hedwig suggested.
Harry stared at Hedwig incredulously. "You've got to be kidding me, right?"
'You assume that Gaia only appeared in this world when you inherited her abilities. What if she had been here all along? Is it possible that Celeste was kept alive so you would meet and bond?'
'Wow, that isn't a bad theory,' Celeste said. "Whoever this Gaia is, if she can bend reality as she did, then nothing is impossible."
"The name Gaia merely describes the system," Harry said as he traced a finger through the dust on the table. "We don't know who the creator is behind it."
Harry sighed and turned towards the exit. "Let's forget about it for now. We have some more grinding to do."
====({owo})====
After running the Dungeon three more times, Harry, Celeste, and Hedwig returned to the Dursleys in the evening. After meditating before every boss fight, it took them just under seven hours to complete the Dungeon.
Since Uncle Vernon felt particularly mean, Harry retreated to the backyard and entered the Empty Dungeon, carrying his bedding with him. He couldn't enter the Dungeon inside the house since the gate could be seen by those without magic. Therefore, he did his best to conceal it behind the tree near the back fence.
The view in the Dungeon may not be the prettiest, but it allowed him to escape the cramped conditions of the cupboard. Also, he could use the extra sixteen hours he gained to train even more.
Harry looked at the results of the grinding session in the Instant Dungeon with satisfaction. Their stay inside lasted twenty-eight hours, but it was well worth it.

There were a couple of new game mechanics that were revealed as a result of the progress that they had made.
The first thing that Harry discovered was that when you were five levels or more above the monster's level, the experience earned dropped to a mere ten per cent. As a result, he had to find another Instant Dungeon or grind the Peverell Crypt to be efficient at increasing his levels.
Secondly, he found some additional information about attributes while browsing the Archives in the Menu. Whenever he reached a threshold of twenty-five points in one attribute, he would be granted a new perk. He didn't hesitate to spend five AP to increase his Willpower to twenty-five as he was excited about what he might get as a result.
Willpower: Mind Arts Mastery
Description: It improves the player's ability to practice and master skills involving the Mind Arts. Additionally, the effectiveness of the Occulumency and Legilimency skills has been enhanced by fifty per cent.
Considering that it was only the first increment, it was a very powerful bonus. Wouldn't it be interesting to see what would happen if he increased his Willpower to fifty? It would have to wait, however, since he was interested in boosting the other attributes of his character to twenty-five in order to see what benefits he would get from doing so. To avoid wasting any AP, he set himself the goal of naturally raising his attributes to twenty.
He would have to wait until he removed the detriment before training Vitality. In addition, he did not know how to increase his Charisma, so he would need to experiment further.
Harry now had plenty of loot, including hundreds of Witches' Caps. There were now four pieces of the Shadow Aspen Armour set in his possession, which gave him twenty per cent resistance to the Shadow element.
"I'm off to sleep," Celeste yawned, settling in a corner of his small mattress. "Now, I can get twenty-four hours of beauty sleep."
"Good night," Harry murmured. For the next sixteen hours, he would grind in this place for as long as he could before he spent the last eight hours sleeping.
The only question was, where did he start? As Harry looked through all of his skills, he realized how many of them he had, which was a problem. Harry started with the ability to learn three skills, and for every point in Intelligence, he got one more. At the moment, he could not learn any other skills because he was at the limit. He was fortunate that spells were not included in the limitations.
It seemed like he had found his direction. In order to increase his Intelligence, he needed to hit the books. Harry searched through his collection and selected One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi. Flipping through the book, he was intimidated when he realised there were over five hundred pages, with two ingredients on each page. Fortunately, there were also illustrations, so the word count per page wasn't too high.
He closed the book eight hours later, his mind overflowing with information about hundreds of herbs and fungi. Although he could not retain all the information with his current Intelligence, he tried to remember what he could.
Your Harvesting skill level has increased by three due to reading a book related to the skill!
Despite sitting for eight hours straight, his gains were worth it. Never say he wasn't committed. His Bookworm skill increased to five, and his Intelligence increased by two.
Next, he selected the library book that taught him the basics of Latin. He was determined to finish the book and learn the skill. Bookworm has already proven to be useful, as his reading speed has greatly improved.
After four hours, Harry closed the book and received a notification.
Latin Language | Active | Level: 3 | Next: 43% | Cost: 0 |
Description: Latin is one of the classical languages which belong to the Italic branch of the Indo-European languages. For European witches and wizards, learning the language is extremely useful since it is used in all wand incantations. Furthermore, it can be used as a foundation to learn many Romance languages such as Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian and Romanian.
• +6% increase in Latin reading ability.
• +6% increased skill in Latin speaking.
• +6% increased skill in hearing Latin.
• +6% increased skill in Latin writing.
Congratulations!
Intelligence has reached a threshold.
Intelligence + 1
Bookworm has reached level 7.
Harry now understood Latin better — the basics of grammar and some of the high-frequency words and phrases. In order for him to memorize all the words contained within, he would have to study the book further. Obviously, it was not as simple as simply learning the words, as Latin had a different grammatical structure than English. However, he couldn't deny that his ability was completely broken. How many languages could he actually learn in the end? Was there a limit?
After returning the book to his inventory, Harry decided to take the remaining time to practice his Occlumency. While Harry was not quite sure how closely his gamified version was to the actual discipline, he clearly understood how his worked.
Basically, he had both a passive and an active shield. A passive shield was for when he couldn't detect an intruder in his mind. It provided him with a safety net but was weaker than his active shield, which he used when he detected the intruder and he could organise a defence.
He increased his skill to level six before he called it quits for the night. Tomorrow he would give his partners a break from the Instant Dungeon, and he would continue levelling his skills. Closing his eyes, he drifted off to sleep.
====({owo})====
5th July
"Why do you do this to me, Harry?" Hermione huffed as she ran on the treadmill, appearing as if she was about to faint.
"You can keep on running if you still have enough breath left to speak," Harry said heartlessly as he ran on the treadmill beside her.
Hermione got off the treadmill a couple of minutes later and collapsed to the ground. "This is not what I signed up for when I called you so we could hang out."
Soon after, Harry joined her and stood beside her, breathing steadily. "You have an Aunt and Uncle who own a fitness centre, and you never thought to take advantage of their facilities?"
"Well, I'm not a physical person," Hermione replied as he helped her to her feet.
"Translation," Harry asserted. "It takes time away from reading books."
Harry had thought about showing her the Empty Dungeon because it was something that could technically exist in this world since it had a physical entrance. It would not break the rule that Gaia had imposed on him about keeping his ability secret. Tonks had revealed that it was already known to the magical community that time flows differently in the Dungeon than on the outside.
However, he did not think Hermione's parents would be happy if she suddenly started ageing faster, so he decided not to tell her about it.
Hermione glared at him, but before she could speak, they were interrupted by her Aunt Julia.
"It's encouraging to see that you're interested in getting in shape," Julia smiled, pulling Hermione into a hug.
"He wouldn't teach me Occlumency unless I agreed to be tortured by this machine," Hermione said with a sniff.
Julia lowered her voice. "I take it that it is something magical? Regardless, I'm glad that you are pushing her to work on her physical fitness."
"As far as I understand, there seems to be a direct correlation between physical fitness and magical stamina, so it's a necessity for witches and wizards to stay in shape even though most of them don't bother to do so."
It would be interesting to see how Hermione's attributes evolved as she became stronger. He may not be able to influence them directly, but he could guide her to her full potential.
"Ben was interested in talking to you, Harry," Julia said. "He wants to start you on weight training since it appears you have filled out a bit."
It was true. In spite of the fact that he was still a head shorter than Hermione and still too skinny, it wasn't as severe as it had been before.
"But I want to learn Occlumency now," Hermione whined.
"You can start by reading the book. It's in my pouch," Harry said, patting his pocket. "However, I will give it to you upstairs, where there is some privacy."
"Okay," Hermione pulled him towards the stairs.
In order to begin his weight training, Ben had set aside a private room for him to use. Harry looked closer at the different weight machines before turning to Ben. "Okay, where should we start?"
He walked over to a rack that was stocked with dumbbells and chose the smallest weight. "We start with some simple dumbbell exercises."
For the next half an hour, Ben showed him various exercises that targeted the different areas of his arms, chest, and back. When they finished, he was sweating profusely, and his arms felt like wet noodles. It was a lot more challenging than simply running on a treadmill.
"Now, we will work on your core and lower body," Ben instructed. "We will start with the reverse lunge. It is a single-leg exercise that works the body's glutes, legs, and core. In most cases, people find that it is easier on their knees to do this than to do a forward lunge. Also, it is slightly easier to balance and maintain stability."
After another ten minutes of torture, Harry collapsed on the ground. He was sure Hermione would be laughing at him now if she saw him like this.
"Okay, that's enough for today. We will do this three times a week and gradually increase the intensity," Ben said.
"I can do it every day," Harry said with determination, although he looked a bit worn out. "Because I am a wizard, my body can repair itself faster."
"Well, okay. I will see you at the same time tomorrow." Ben looked down at him with a smirk on his face. "You can leave when you are ready."
Harry lay there for a minute longer before sitting up, retrieving a bottle of water from his inventory, and taking a long drink. His attention was caught by a couple of notifications that were waiting for him, so he clicked on them.

New Daily Quest!
Weight training.
Description: The player is ready to increase his body strength in order to improve his performance. Follow a weight training routine every day and reduce the negative effects.
Rewards: 50 exp, 10 pounds. Detriment: Malnourished reduced by one day.
Congratulations!
The player has finished the first month required to solve his malnutrition. Only two to go!
Vitality has increased by two.
Interesting. As long as he completed the two daily quests and spent time in the Dungeon, he could remove the detriment before leaving for Hogwarts. Another thing he wanted to know was how many Daily Quests he could have simultaneously. It seemed like a viable method of grinding for experience.
Harry left the room and entered the staff area down the hallway. Hermione was ensconced in her father's office, happily reading through the Occlumency book.
"You're not going to be able to speak to her until she has finished the book," Julia said.
Harry sat down at the table with the woman. "It's not a big deal. I have plenty of books to occupy myself."
Julia snorted. "You are well suited to each other. The only difference is that you are not as frenetic as Hermione regarding books and knowledge."
Harry laughed before a comfortable silence ensued. A question rose to the forefront of his mind, and he looked at Julia with curiosity. "Sorry if I've been overly nosy, but have you ever considered using magic to fix your leg? It's possible you could overcome your fertility problems with it as well."
Julia didn't answer for a long time. It seemed that she was in a state of shock. "Is that even possible? Isn't there a law against using magic on non-magical people?"
"Please," Harry snorted. "Even if there was, do you think that wizards would care to follow it?"
Julia nodded. "What would it take to get healed? Who could I reach out to?"
"Well, I can't take you to St Mungo's Hospital," Harry rubbed his chin. "That would be too obvious. However, I have a relative who is a Medi-witch. She might be able to help."
Julia walked around the table and embraced Harry for a long time, making him uncomfortable. "Thank you. Even if it turns out my leg cannot recover, I appreciate the kindness."
She was another cuddle monster like her niece. Why didn't he keep his mouth shut?
I have been getting some comments about quests not displaying the rewards. There is a reason for this. Because some of Harry's quests may take months to complete, I find it limiting to name the rewards right away, as they may become redundant by the time they are completed.
The only quests I do this for are daily quests and one continuous quest about monster loot. But I may be mistaken.
However, I can see the other side of the argument. So, from now on, I will list the rewards, but most will not be very specific and scale with Harry's level so they don't become redundant. For example, if the reward is experience, instead of getting a specific number of experience points, he would get a percentage of his current level. Let me know what you think.
Thanks for reading.
