The warm smell of chamomile tea came from the kitchen as Shikamaru decided to make he his way to the fridge for an early morning snack.
"Still an earlybird huh?" Shikamaru chuckled as he grabbed a hot pocket and put it in the microwave before joining a familiar face at the dining table.
"Got to get an early morning start" Sai retorted with a slight grin before taking a sip from his tea. "Also I roomed with you before and your routine doesn't change."
"I can say the same for you" Shikamaru shot him a little grin before reaching in his pants pockets to grab a box of cigarettes to light one up. To his surprise they weren't there.
"As I said" Sai's smile got a slight bigger as a sketched raven dropped a box of cigarettes right in front of him. "You're routine hasn't changed. A 4 am smoke isn't necessary, the sun isn't even out."
Shikamaru just huffed as he went to grab his hot pocket from the microwave. "So I assume this meeting here isn't a coincidence"
"No, you know how I've been gone for about a month doing work for lord sixth. Traveling back and forth helping to get ready for another Kage summit to talk about further plans for the rail way system"
"Yea, Kakashi said everything was going as planned" Shikamaru assured him as he was taking a bite of his food.
"Well, it is. Except for Suna." Sai put down his mug hoping to avoid Shikamaru's concerned look but their eyes eventually met with seriousness. "Hiraku was supposed to fund the train system for Suna."
"He was...at least I thought he was" Shikamaru had a meeting with him and everything was okay even after the altercation with Miro. He said he'll pay for half and that was deal, and that's the reason they built towards Suna first.
"Hiraku had serious surgery and fell into a coma afterwards so all his finances fell into Miro's hands-"
"So let me guess Doi convinced him to back out of the project" Shikamaru watched as Sai nodded his head. He was in disbelief but he shouldn't have been. Temari told him that Miro would find a way to plot his revenge.
"Gaara doesn't know that I know, so please keep this between us for the time being. I'm sure that Temari and Kankuro will find out in time"
Shikamaru knew that Sai's past training allowed him to find out almost anything so he knew that this information was legit, he just wish that he could do something about it. He also hated keeping Temari out out the loop, he wanted to tell her, but some things are best told from the original source...which wasn't him.
But what him and Sai didn't know was that Temari was around the corner listening. With both of their brains turning and Temari being one of the most stealthiest ninjas out the five villages, she knew they'd never noticed she was listening.
Temari knew that Suna didn't know Hiraku's money, but without it, Suna could easily go into a depression. She'll just wait for Shikamaru to come back to bed to finish talking about it.
Do she left them at the kitchen table before heading back to bed.
