Chapter Six
Bella awoke the next morning exhausted. She had spent the whole night tossing and turning and she was brimming with questions. Thankfully, today was Charlie's day off and she was determined to spend it getting the answers she felt she deserved. As she got out of bed though she realized that something felt different. Her body felt lighter than it ever had, and it also felt…stronger somehow. She padded towards the mirror and let out a startled sound. Her eyes were violet with silver irises and her skin seemed to be glowing from within. Her naturally beautiful face seemed to have enhanced somehow and her hair had grown a few inches and the shade had richened. And her ears…they had grown into points. She touched the tip of one of them in shock.
She hadn't doubted him because her dad had no reason to lie – but it was true. She was Fae. Whatever awakening had begun to happen last night had obviously also began to affect her physical appearance. She dashed out of her room and down the stairs and blinked in surprise when she was in the kitchen with Charlie. It had felt like running but she knew that she had arrived in only a second. Well, it looked like super speed was part of the package too.
As she sat there cataloguing everything she was hit with a sudden cacophony of noise. She fell to her knees with a screech and covered her ears. It was too much – what felt like a thousand voices speaking at once. She closed her eyes and rocked back and forth pressing her hands harder against her ears to try to get it to stop.
She didn't know how long it had been but eventually the noises stopped, and she opened her eyes to see Charlie sitting on the floor in front of her. His mouth was moving but she didn't hear him. She removed her hands from her ears and sat up.
"What?"
"I put a shield around the house last night to keep out any noise because I guessed you might physically transform which includes enhanced hearing. We can hear up to 50 miles out – sometimes further depending on the Fae and children like you who haven't grown up with it are normally easily overwhelmed. We're going to have to work on it over the next few weeks. I've pulled you out of school for the next few days at least and took some PTO and that should give us time to get the worst of it under control." He said consolingly.
"I'm also going to have to teach you to glamour - we have to mute the otherworldliness that comes with being Fae but also change your eyes and ears."
Bella could only nod dumbly. It seemed she was in for a lot of change.
I apologize that it took me so long to come back to this story. After the last chapter, I struggled to figure out how to move forward because what I wanted to do was super intricate and I'm unsure if I can pull it off. Then my computer took a crap last December and I had to wait a few weeks to get a new one and I just never came back. Recently I was inspired to start a new fic and I keep seeing this one just sitting there sadly, and it made me want to try to come back. I'm still unsure if I have the skill necessary to take this in the direction that I want (which would suck because I hope to one day publish my own fantasy NA series) but I'm going to go for it. I think someone guessed that true blood was the other series and no that's not it. It's A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas. I'm actually in the middle of re-reading another one of her series and I recommend her work to any fantasy fans! This is short because I'm just trying to force myself to get back into this story. I can't promise steady updates but I'm trying. - Marieorsomething
