Cynthia opened her eyes drearily, waking up due to a light prodding. Cynthia slowly sat up, and looked at Gible.
"Gible, how long was I out for?" She asked. The dragon lifted five of it's six fingers.
"Five hours!?" Cynthia exclaimed, "I need to go, everyone will be needlessly worrying about me!"
As she stood, she noticed Gible was nodding off, and her eyes widened.
"You haven't slept at all, have you?" Gible reluctantly nodded. Cynthia smiled, touched by the dragon's worry.
"It's okay, I can carry you to my village, and once we're accounted for and feeling better, we can go looking for your parents!" Gible growled in worry at her.
"Don't worry, your parents wouldn't hurt me! They'd see you with me and be so happy to have you back they wouldn't lay a claw on me!" Gible couldn't argue against this, so she simply huffed and let herself be picked up by the determined Cynthia.
"Wow, you're lighter than I expected!" Cynthia chuckled. Gible rolled her eyes, and Cynthia walked out of the cave. The storm had dissipated, and now it was nighttime. The forest was illuminated by the brightness of the stars and the moon. The treetops and ground was covered in snow, reflecting the brightness of the stars back into the sky.
"Okay, we just have to walk through the forest and get back to the village! We can do this!" She began to trudge through the snow, on high alert for any dangerous Pokémon. Fortunately, no packs of sneasel or houndour suddenly appeared, so for now she an Gible was safe.
The Pokémon around her were keeping a wary eye on her, probably due to the future powerhouse nestled in her arms. Gible noticed this as well and let out a short bark. The Pokémon watching them instantly relaxed, and went back to scavenging any food left over from the storm.
"What did you say to them?" Cynthia asked.
"Gib. Gible Gible." Cynthia caught on to the gist of it and laughed.
After walking back towards the village for a while, Cynthia heard a call of "Cynthia!" Picking up her pace, she ran towards the noise, before spotting her grandmother, looking around in worry.
"Grandma!" Cynthia yelled, and her grandmother snapped her eyes on her and breathed a massive sigh of relief.
"Cynthia! Thank goodness! I've been worried sick looking for you." Her grandmother admonished, as Cynthia jogged up to her. Her eyes widened as she saw the Pokémon buried in her arms.
"Cynthia, is that a?"
"Yup! It's a Gible! She's really sweet." A scoff came from Gible, "And tomorrow we're going to find her parents!"
Her grandmother closed her eyes and breathed out, before looking back at Cynthia with an unreadable expression.
"You do realise how dangerous the Gible line is Cynthia?" She asked.
"Of course I do! But Gible here is super protective of me. She would never harm me." Cynthia swears she sees Gible blush out of the corner of her eye.
"Forget it, let's head back to the village and discuss your punishment for nearly giving me a heart attack!" Cynthia and Gible gulped. Despite having never met the woman before, the tone of voice she used told Gible that she meant business. Following her grandmother, Cynthia walked back to the village in complete silence, not daring to open her mouth in case of an angry comment from her grandmother.
Finally arriving at the village, Cynthia winced at the state the small town was in. Multiple houses had tiles missing from their ceiling, and one house even had a tree sticking out the side of it. Said house was currently surrounded by villagers and Pokémon, worriedly discussing on how to remove the tree.
"Wow, it was that bad?" Cynthia asked. Her grandma sighed, before looking around the village.
"It was a rough storm. Thankfully nobody was seriously injured." Cynthia was about to open her mouth, but Grandma intercepted the question.
"And yes, the ruins are fine. Only a large pile of snow blocked the entrance." Cynthia let out a sigh of relief, and continued walking to her Grandmother's house.
Arriving at the house, A loud "Clefable!" was heard, and Cynthia was tackled by the overprotective fairy. Gible in her arms squirmed her way out and sat down on the couch, as Clefable looked at the new Pokémon with curiosity,
"Clefable, this is Gible, she'll be staying with us until we can find her parents." Cynthia's grandma said, while walking into the house. Clefable cheerfully waved to Gible, while Gible waved her own paw semi-consciously.
"Gible, this is my home, and you're going to stay here for the night!" Cynthia said. Gible grunted in confirmation, before looking for a place to sleep.
"Oh right! I've read a lot about Pokémon, and generally you line prefers to sleep half buried in the ground but will sleep other ways if needed. Am I right?" Gible thought a moment, before slowly nodding her head.
"Great! I'll make your bed then!" Cynthia then scampered off, quickly dashing through the living room a second later with a medium sized box in her hands. She went out the front door and shut the door, leaving Gible alone in the presence of Grandma and Clefable.
"She's so headstrong that girl, always thinking about others before herself." Grandma fondly chuckled. Clefable giggled, and Gible smiled. This person and Pokémon weren't that bad themselves.
Cynthia didn't come back in a while, so Gible went outside to check on her. When she went outside, she saw Cynthia on a patch of dirt clear of snow, digging dirt and placing it in the box. Gible smiled fondly, before hopping over to her. Cynthia noticed Gible approaching and smiled.
"Hey Gible, I'm just getting dirt for your bed, go back inside and relax, you need it." Cynthia said. Gible growled in worry, looking at the clearly exhausted Cynthia continuing to scoop up dirt.
"Don't worry about me, you should be more concerned about yourself, you being a newly hatched Pokémon and all." Gible ignored her comment, and scurried over to her and began to efficiently dig the dirt out of the ground and into the box.
"Gible, you didn't have to do-" Cynthia zipped her mouth at the incredulous look Gible shot her.
"Fine, I'm an idiot, thanks for helping me dig the dirt." She sighed, earning a satisfied huff from Gible. The last of dirt was thrown into the box, and Cynthia picked it up and carried it back inside.
"There you are," Grandma said, "You can ask for help you know."
"I don't need help Grandma. I'm twelve years old, I can handle myself." Cynthia said with a huff, placing the box in the corner of the living room. Gible scampered up to it and happily cried at the comfort of dirt on her scales.
"You look happy." Cynthia said, approaching the small dragon. She pointed to a room down the corridor.
"That's my room. If you need anything come and get me. Goodnight Gible!" Cynthia walked off to her room and closed the door, changing into her nightclothes. She turned off the light and collapsed onto her bed, already beginning to drift off to sleep. Despite having slept for 5 hours not that long ago, the girl was exhausted, and had no problems in drifting off to sleep.
Meanwhile in the living room, the lights had been turned off and Gible was digging into the ground. Once she was satisfied with the hole she had dug, she jumped into it and wriggled comfortably in the dirt. Her eyes began to droop as she too began to sleep heavily, snoring contentedly in the box.
OoOoO
Morning came, and the gentle ray of sunshine coming through Cynthia's window waked the sleeping girl. She groaned and rolled over to her stomach, staring into the mattress underneath her. Her sleepiness diminished within seconds when she remembered the job she had to do. She leapt off her bed, and began to dress herself, before dashing out of her door and into the living room.
"I'm here, I'm here! I'm ready to go! Gible, do you wan't to go now, or-" She paused, spotting a bemused Gible looking at her. Cafable giggled from the kitchen counter, cooking a heavenly smelling breakfast.
"Calm down Cynthia. Have breakfast and then go out looking for Gible's parents." Grandma said, walking into the room. She grabbed four plates out of a cupboard and passed them to Clefable, who cheerily laid food out on each one. Cynthia sighed, and sat at the counter, Gible joining her as she jumped surprisingly high onto the stool.
Cynthia raised her eyebrows. "That was quite the leap. I feel you'll be a incredible battler when you're older." Gible smugly soaked in the praise. But her and Cynthia's eyes went wide as the food on their plates was placed in front of them.
Cinamon wafted through their noses, making their mouths water. Five pancakes were stacked ontop of each other, oozing with maple syrup. Grilled tomatoes, a odd but welcome addition, sat next to the pancakes, grilled to perfection.
Cynthia and Gible couldn't hold themselves any longer. They quickly dove into their food, devouring it with a ferocity fiercer than a rampaging Salamence. Her grandmother and Clefable meanwhile ate their food at a leisurely pace, savouring every bite they took, while occasionally giving worried glances at the duo that was ravaging the food.
A minute had passed, and said duo was basking in the satisfaction of a good meal. Clefable was mildly impressed at the speed they had eaten their food, while Grandma was thinking more about their poor manners.
Clefable handed Cynthia a backpack.
"Inside you'll find all the food and supplies you'll need in a day. Be back by evening Cynthia. And if her parents are angry…" Grandma firmly locked eyes with Cynthia, "Run."
"Okay, I got it!" Cynthia said, as she grabbed her deep black coat and ran out of the door, Gible hot on her heels. It was time to find Gible's parents.
At the edge of town Cynthia slowed down, allowing Gible to catch up with her. They walked through the forest in a pleasant silence, enjoying the sounds and sights the woods had to offer. It didn't take long before the part of the forest Cynthia found Gible. The broken eggshells were still there after they moved the snow away.
Obviously, the egg wasn't originally there, it most likely fell down the cliff. Cynthia and Gible turned to the cliff, both with the same idea.
"How are we going to get to the top? No part of the cliff looks easy to climb." Cynthia said, before shooting Gible a grin.
"Race ya to the top!" She squeals, leaping onto the cliff face and beginning her ascent. Gible splutters indignantly, before grinning herself and leaping onto the cliff.
While Gible had the advantage of being a naturally born rugged terrain climber, Cynthia made it up to Gible with her experience. Never mind the promise of death if Cynthia's hand missed a rock, she was going to beat Gible to the top and she knew it. She shrieked with glee as she pulled herself to the top, only to find a smug Gible looking down at her.
"No, dammit, so close!" Cynthia cried, "How did you get up here before me?" She spotted a hole that went into the ground.
"You dug your way up once you were close enough to do so! That's cheating!" Cynthia exclaimed.
"Gible gible gible." Gible teased, receiving a stuck-out tongue in response. Yeah, they were childish, who cared?
Back to the task at hand, Cynthia examined the rocky landscape they stood on. The only plant life up here were shrubs and patches of grass, and the Pokémon up here were much different from the ones below. Geodudes and gravelers rolled around here and there, and a Machoke and a Medicham were sparring in the distance.
"That's strange. If there was a garchomp couple nesting here, there would be no Pokémon in sight." Cynthia said. In response, Gible whined in worry, continuing to peer around her.
"Hey don't worry. I'm sure what happened is that they nested further up the mountain, and when they flew away from the storm, they dropped their egg somewhere along the way." Gible nodded and looked further up the mountain.
"Well, looks like we've got more climbing to do." Said Cynthia.
A few hours had passed and still no sign of Gible's parents. Gible was getting desperate now and was calling out its name to the sky. Cynthia noticed that she would have to start heading back to the village soon, so she turned to Gible.
"Hey, I'm sure you'll find them. You just need to keep looking. I need to go back before Grandma comes for my head." Cynthia warmly said. She then breathed in and out, before turning back to Gible.
"It was great to meet you, honestly. You're a lot friendly than I thought dragon types were." Cynthia said cheerfully. Gible realised where this was going, and made her way over to Cynthia and hugged her leg.
"I'll miss you too buddy. I really will." Cynthia said sadly. "If you ever want to visit, come back to Celestic town. You'll always have a home under my Grandma's roof." She stepped back, still facing Gible. "Bye Gible. I won't forget you."
Turning around, she walks back down the mountain, tears pouring out of her eyes. She couldn't let Gible see her face, she would only make her feel bad. Unbeknownst to her, Gible watched her leave, her own tears leaking from her eyes. She inhaled before turning back to the mountain. Time to find her parents. Time to find home.
