"So there really is another doppelganger," Fiona muttered, staring hard at the girl in the doorway, before raising her voice. "I almost didn't believe my sister when she told me that there was news of a doppelganger. It has been far too long since one was last seen."
"I'm beginning to get that impression," Elena spoke slowly, only stepping closer to the two women when Thyra beckoned her forward. She remembered Fiona's name from the conversation in the car. She had referred to a sister named Fiona. But even then, shouldn't but clarify. "You're sisters?"
"My older sister," Thyra confirmed, stepping away from the window and over to the body on the ground. He didn't look that much older than Elena. His head laid at an awkward angle to his body, messy brown hair covering his closed eyes. The blonde stared down at him in interest, nudging his head with her boot, before glancing at the oldest in the room. "Did you manage to get any useful information from him before you snapped his neck?"
"Surprisingly yes," Fiona shrugged, her gaze still fixed upon the doppelganger. "Due to the number of people that the news passed through on its way to you and Elijah, it is very likely that someone will go rogue and tell Klaus that there is another doppelganger."
"Trevor really wasn't acting with his head when he revealed that little titbit," the blonde sighed, shaking her head. "It's even more a shame that Cody didn't tell me, otherwise I could have decimated the line before the news spread."
"Does that mean that others will be coming for me?" Elena asked, her voice quiet as she looked at Thyra. Even though she knew how dangerous the older woman was, she couldn't help but seek reassurance from her. She believed the blonde when she said that she would keep her alive.
"Quite possibly," Fiona answered instead, walking over to the sofa and taking a seat, adjusting her skirt as she did so. "Unfortunately, Klaus has built himself quite the reputation. And there will be vampires that are just queuing up to get into his good books. Handing over the doppelganger is one way to do that."
"And not everyone is sensible enough to be more scared of me," Thyra rolled her eyes, walking over to the computer table, casting an impressed eye on the setup before turning to face her sister. "We could make start on killing those in the know. Did the kid tell you who would know?"
"He gave me a few names, but I can get the rest when he wakes up," the brunette nodded, momentarily taking her eyes off of the doppelganger. "He isn't on vervain so getting the information should be simple enough."
"If we can close out that loop, then it will be one less thing to worry about," the blonde sister sighed, walking over to sit next to her sister. "I'll be able to keep Elena safe in Mystic Falls until I'm ready for the sacrifice to take place."
"You'll be taking me back home?" Elena asked with a frown, looking at the two Original vampires. The girl was surprised. She didn't think that she would be allowed to return to her family.
"Unfortunately, we don't have an option," Fiona shook her head, her lip curling as she remembered what happened centuries ago. "If Klaus hears about you and appears in Mystic Falls but fails to find you, then he will rip your family apart. He's done it before, I wouldn't put it past him to do it again." When Thyra spoke her name sharply, the older sister just shrugged. "There's no point lying to the girl. She should know what Klaus is capable of. Especially since we don't want her to make the same mistakes that Katerina did.
"Klaus killed Katherine's entire family?" the doppelganger gasped, a hand moving to cover her mouth in shock. From the fear that he had installed, she knew that the Original was not someone to be trifled with. But to hear that he would kill her family if she resisted, it was an unpleasant thing to realise. Elena knew that she would have to go along with the sacrifice, to save her loved ones. The girl refused to be the reason why they were killed.
"She betrayed him," Thyra looked away from her sister, the annoyed look quickly disappearing as she looked at the doppelganger, a sympathetic look replacing it as she saw how shaken the girl was. "He didn't take that lightly." She looked back at Fiona. "Even if we do keep Elena away from Mystic Falls, we would need to take her back for the sacrifice. It needs to happen at the doppelganger's birth place."
"So it doesn't make sense to keep her away, even if Klaus wasn't an issue," Fiona shook her head, her mind whirring. "Okay, in that case, I'll return to Mystic Falls with you. There's no point in me tracking down Klaus, if he is going to end up there anyway. But I want something in return, Thyra."
The blonde paused for a moment before nodding, "You want Finn."
"I want Finn," Fiona confirmed. "I don't believe Klaus when he says that the rest of our family are dead. He'll be lugging them around with him, as he always has done. If you promise to undagger Finn, I promise to help you keep the girl safe."
Thyra thought for a moment. She was never as close with Finn as she was with her other siblings. She had mostly spent her time with her sisters, with Fiona and Rebekah and Rheanna. But she didn't want her oldest brother to remain locked in a box, just because Klaus found him boring. So she nodded, "I agree. If you help me keep Elena safe and alive, then I will release your twin from his box at the first opportunity that I have. I'll even release the others at the same time. Let's see what Klaus does when confronted by Kol, Rebekah and Rheanna."
"Thank you, Thyra," the older Original nodded, before looking at Elena. "I will return to Mystic Falls with you and look after you. I will be your main bodyguard while Thyra finds a way to kill Klaus and keep you alive. But you have to promise me one thing; that you obey me without question. I can't keep you alive if you don't listen to me."
Elena didn't even hesitate before nodding, "I promise."

Thyra left the room when her phone buzzed, her voice low as she answered the phone. This left Elena lone with the older Original. The man on the floor was still unconscious and the doppelganger had no idea how long it would take for him to wake up again. She was nervous, still unsure as to what the intentions of the brunette Original were. She knew that she wouldn't hurt her, but that was all she knew.
Fiona just watched as the girl shifted nervously on her feet. It was fascinating to watch. Despite their rocky introduction and the fact that it had only been a few hours, the doppelganger seemed to be comfortable around her younger sister. Fiona had seen it before, how her sister formed a bond with the previous doppelgangers. Despite all of their differences, they all shared a fondness for Thyra.
"My, um, my aunt doesn't know about vampires yet," Elena eventually spoke up, a look of deep thought on her face. Now that she knew that she was going home, she had to think about how to explain everything. And not just to her aunt, but to her friends, to the Salvatores, too. She had been missing, out of contact, for hours. By this point, it had probably been a whole day since her abduction by Rose and Trevor. And after Thyra and Elijah took out Stefan and Damon, no one would have known what happened to her.
"Are you going to tell her?" the Original asked, crossing her legs. She kept her voice neutral, curious as to Elena's thoughts on telling her family the truth about the dark monsters in the world. It was too much for some people, their minds couldn't handle the truth and it either drove them insane or they revealed the secret to those who shouldn't know. Maybe the girl's aunt would be different but Elena hadn't told her yet for a reason, and the excuse that she was only trying to protect her wouldn't last for long.
"I don't know," the girl sighed, shaking her head, walking over to sit on the far end of the sofa. "I mean, she's happy living her life, away from all of this. But how long will she be safe if she doesn't know? I can't lose her, but I don't want to take away her innocence."
Fiona was silent for a moment, studying the despondent look on the doppelganger's face, before slowly saying, "If it helps, I know my brother. Niklaus will get your aunt involved at some point, he takes great pleasure in hurting the families of his targets. If I were you, I would tell her before he does something to put her in danger."
Elena looked up, nodding, a grateful look on her face, before she bit her lip, glancing in the direction that Thyra left in. The girl scooted slightly closer to the older Original before quietly asking, "Did you know the other doppelgangers? Katherine and the first one?"
The vampire was silent for a moment, studying the look on her face. It was obvious that the girl was curious, she was following a line of doppelgangers who between them, had kept Thyra and Klaus cursed for over a thousand years. But there was something else there. Fiona had seen the look on the girl's face when she looked at her sister. There was a curiosity there, but something more. It wasn't quite anything romantic, but if given the chance, it could end up that way.
Fiona had to make a choice. She had seen both Tatia and Katerina break Thyra's heart. She had seen what it had gone to her younger sister. What she had gone through because of Tatia's death and Katerina's betrayal. She could stop this doomed romance with Elena Gilbert before it even began. And yet… Fiona didn't want to. Thyra deserved love, just as much as anyone did. Maybe Elena would be different to the others, maybe she would make her sister happy.
Eventually, the Original sighed, "Tatia. The original doppelganger, her name was Tatia. She grew up in the same village that we did. Her and Thyra, they were close, closer than they should have been." Fiona snorted and shook her head, "Sometimes I wonder if that was why she was chosen for the sacrifice, as a punishment for my sister for being different. Oh, mother always said that it was because Elijah and Klaus fought over her, but everyone knew that she didn't have eyes for either of them. She would rather be with Thyra than any of the boys in town, especially after she was forced to have her rapist's baby. My sister was the one that got her threw it."
"Thyra really loved her, didn't she?" Elena's voice was sad, her heart squeezing in her chest. She had seen sadness in the blonde's eyes at times and she just knew that it came from a deep, unhealed, enduring grief.
"She did," Fiona confirmed with a nod, surprised by the girl's distress over her sister's loss. "Thyra was never the same when she learnt that it was Tatia's blood that cursed her. And then when Katerina came along, it was easy for the wench to manipulate her. She took advantage of Thyra's care for her, betraying her when the time came. None of us have forgiven her for that and Katerina better hope that she never encounters me again."
"She's back in Mystic Falls, if you did want to make her pay," the doppelganger said, shrugging at Fiona's look. "She tried to kill my aunt; she threatened by brother. She's hurt so many people, she doesn't deserve any mercy."
The brunette Original gave the girl an impressed look before saying, "Look, I know what thought lingers in your mind. But you are not Katerina, nor are you Tatia. You are your own person, Elena, even if you look like them. Chose your own destiny, don't be a pawn to people like my brother." The woman sat back in her seat, muttering, "Besides, its about time that someone put a stop to Niklaus' madness."

After finishing her business with Slater, Thyra decided that it was about time that Elena return to Mystic Falls. She knew that it wouldn't be long before the Bennett witch performed another location spell and the Salvatore brothers arrive to save the girl. And that would likely cause quite a few issues, especially if it accidentally got out that a new doppelganger existed.
Fiona was surprised when the doppelganger dozed off on the backseat. The girl barely knew the sisters and yet, she trusted them enough to be at her most vulnerable. The Original looked over her shoulder at her before shaking her head, turning to face her sister, "Thyra, do you really think that this is wise? You know that Niklaus will learn of her existence and sacrifice her on his alter of blood. Please, spare yourself the pain of losing another."
"I tried," Thyra whispered, staring out into the night sky as she drove them towards their old home. "But there is just something about her, an innocence. It's so different to Tatia, and mothering like Katerina. I just can't help but wonder, is she the one?"
"Even if she is, there is no guarantee that you will find a way for her to survive the sacrifice."
"That's what my blood is for," the blonde's lips quirked up into a strained smile before she sighed. "I know that I am being foolish, that I am letting my heart lead me, like Rebekah. But I can't help it. Despite our introduction, she doesn't look at me like a monster. She seems to trust me. How long has it been since that? Not even Angelica trusted me so quickly. It… it reminds me of before."
"That is a dangerous thought, sister," Fiona cautioned as they drove past the entrance to the town. Before she fell asleep, Elena had given Thyra her address, trusting the blonde to get her home.
"I know and I shall probably regret it, for now, I am just going to enjoy my time with the girl. Surely I have earnt that?"
"You have earned more than that, but I do not think that life will give it to you."
"Well, one can only hope," Thyra shook her head as she drove through the quiet streets of Mystic Falls. "Especially since I need to persuade Elijah that killing Niklaus is not what we want to do. We just want him to feel one iota of the pain that he has caused us over the centuries. Maybe then, he will go back to the sweet boy that he used to be."
"That boy is dead, Thyra, and he is never coming back," the older sister kept her voice soft, even if her words were harsh. "Maybe Elijah is right and the only way that our family will be reunited, is if the monster separating us is gone."
"You may be right, but I have to try. I owe it to the boy that took my punishments from father. I couldn't save him then. But maybe I could save him now."
