The next morning, Brooke called Millie to let her know that she would be late. She told Millie about the situation with Sam's teacher, Mr. Bennett and Millie told Brooke that she would take care of everything at the store as long as Brooke needed her to that day. Brooke decided to let Sam sleep in and began to cook Sam's favorite breakfast, chocolate chip pancakes.

Sam woke up to the smell of pancakes and chocolate. She rolled out of bed and padded into the kitchen. Sam was greeted with a warm smile and a kiss to the head. "Good morning, sweetheart," Brooke said as she plated 2 pancakes for Sam and poured her a large glass of milk. Sam sat down on a stool as Brooke slid her breakfast in front of her. "Thank you, mom," Sam responded. Brooke melted. She thought she may never get over the joy she felt each time Sam called her "mom."

"Okay," Brooke began, "I'm going to head to the school in a few minutes to talk with Principal Turner. Is there anything you want me to tell him specifically or anything else that you need me to know before you go?"

Sam thought for a moment and small tears welled in her eyes. "I want him to know that I'm not a bad kid. I'm trying really hard. I know I've gotten into a lot of trouble in the past and I'm not perfect, but I really am trying so hard to do good. I feel like because of my past, he won't believe me." Sam wiped her eyes and stared sadly back at Brooke. Brooke's heart ached and filled with anger all over again. She walked over to Sam and covered her hand with her own. "Honey, we will take care of this and if it is not taken care in a way that meets my expectations, we will explore other options. But we don't need to worry about that now. After I speak with Principal Turner, I will come home and we will talk more about everything." Sam smiled as the tears kept flowing. Sam's tears were due to her frustration over the situation, but also due to Brooke's love for her. Never before in her entire life had Sam experienced anyone caring so much for her. She hadn't realized that she was worth it until Brooke began to show her and tell her that she was.

"You finish your pancakes and don't forget to clean up your plate and put it in the dishwasher. I will be back in a little while. They suspended you for three days for this, and I'm sentencing you to ENJOY these days. Watch Netflix, go back to sleep, eat whatever you want, these days are YOURS!" Brooke asserted as she walked out the front door.

Sam giggled to herself as she continued to eat her pancakes. It was fun to watch Brooke Davis get fired up…as long as she wasn't on the receiving end of that fire!

Brooke phoned the school as she pulled out of her driveway. When the school's secretary answered, Brooke firmly announced, "Hello. This is Brooke Davis and my daughter is Samantha Walker. I am currently on my way to the school to speak with Principal Turner regarding Samantha's recent suspension. I expect him to be ready to speak with me when I arrive. Thank you." Brooke hung up the phone after the secretary assured her that Principal Turner would indeed be ready for her when she arrived.

Brooke walked through the doors of Tree Hill High. She lingered a moment as she passed her old locker. Brooke remembered all of the good times and wondered who that locker had been passed down to through the years. The nostalgia of it all almost made her a little weepy, but remembering the task at hand, Brooke took a deep breath, put on a serious face, and walked into Tree Hill High's office.

Principal Turner himself was standing in the office as Brooke entered. "Ms. Davis, it is a pleasure to see you again. I have been informed that you are here to discuss Samantha's behavior."

Brooke's blood began to boil and she replied, "No, Principal Turner. I am not here to discuss Samantha's behavior. I am here to discuss the behavior of one of your staff members, Mr. Bennett. I believe this discussion will be best conducted in your office," Brooke stated as she nodded her head and gestured her hand toward the open door of Principal Turner's office.

Principal Turner was taken back by his former student's forcefulness. "After you, Ms. Davis," Principal Turner said as he motioned Brooke into his office. Principal Turner sat down at his desk as Brooke took a seat in a chair opposite the principal. "Ms. Davis, please share with me the purpose behind this visit if you feel that Samantha's unacceptable behavior in Mr. Bennett's class yesterday is not what needs to be discussed." Principal Turner looked firmly toward Brooke who returned the equally steely glare.

"My Samantha. My Samantha who has been working SO HARD to do the right thing and to make good choices is not to blame in this situation. I returned home yesterday evening to find my Samantha in tears and completely distraught over the way Mr. Bennett responded to a question she posed in class. When Samantha asked about an error he made while working out a problem for the class, he became angry and accused Samantha of being disrespectful."

Principal Turner responded, "I understand that Samantha has told you what she felt like she needed to tell you to get herself out of trouble. Ms. Davis, kids lie. They especially lie when they know they are in trouble and want to get out of it. Samantha called Mr. Bennett an 'idiot' yesterday and was disrespectful and defiant and that kind of behavior is not tolerated at Tree Hill High…as you well know."

Brooke took a deep breath as Principal Turner continued. "Mr. Bennett told me the entire story yesterday afternoon." His tone softened as he said, "Listen, Brooke. What you are doing with Samantha is admirable. You are really doing a wonderful job with her. I know that you are still learning this whole parenting thing. Parenting a teenager is not easy."

Brooke retorted, "No. It's not. It's not easy at all. However, Samantha explained every detail of what happened with Mr. Bennett to me and I believe her, Principal Turner. I will ALWAYS believe my child unless she gives me a reason not to believe her. As we sit now, it is her word against Mr. Bennett's word."

"Yes it is," responded Principal Turner, "I can call Mr. Bennett in here to join our conversation and explain yesterday's situation to you. Perhaps that will help clear some things up."

Brooke felt as though she had steam flowing from her ears. "NO, I do not want you to bring in Mr. Bennett. He's already given his piece. I want to hear from the other students who were in class with Samantha yesterday. I want you to ask them about what happened and how both responded."

"Well , I would have to get permission from some students' parents to allow them to come in to talk to me with you present."

"Fine," Brooke stated flatly. "Fine."

Principal Turner contacted the families of three students whom he wanted to question. All parents gave their consent. Principal Turner called them each in individually to share their version of the story with the two adults.

Each student came in and told a similar version of the same story that Sam told Brooke. Each student said they never heard Sam say anything rude toward Mr. Bennett. When asked if she called him an idiot, all students said that she did not. They all said that Sam asked a question of Mr. Bennett and he just lost his cool and went off on Sam.

Once the three students had left, Principal Turner stated, "Ms. Davis, I apologize for the misunderstanding. I will meet with Mr. Bennett today. Samatha's suspension will officially be revoked and she can return to school right after our meeting today."

Brooke set a firm expression on her face. "Principal Turner, you suspended Samantha for three days and I will let her decide when she would like to return. If she wants to take these three days off to recover from this situation, then I will allow her to do so. I expect to hear that there have been consequences issued to Mr. Bennett and I expect a full and sincere apology to be given to my Samantha. I expect a full report of the incident to be written and shared with me. If you cannot resolve this issue according to the entirety of my expectations, I WILL contact the proper authorities to handle it further."

With that, Brooke rose and walked out of Principal Turner's office.

Brooke arrived back at home to find Sam snuggled on the couch fast asleep with her favorite TV show playing in the background. She walked in quietly so she would not wake Sam. However, Sam began to stir and opened her eyes to look up at Brooke.

Brooke sat down on the couch with Sam as Sam snuggled into her mother's side. Sam asked, "How did it go?" Brooke told Sam everything as Sam began to relax and lay her head in her mother's lap. Brooke combed through Sam's hair with her fingers as Sam nodded off to sleep.

When Sam opened her eyes again, Brooke said, "Get dressed and let's go have lunch. Anywhere you want!" "Really?" replied Sam. "Absolutely," said Brooke! Sam jumped up off the couch feeling happy to spend the day with Brooke. She was upset about the situation, but not at all upset that she would get three days off of school to enjoy with her mom. Before she left the school, Brooke told Principal Turner that she expected him to excuse all of Sam's work for the three days she was suspended. Sam was elated that she would not have to think about school for a few days.

A really terrible situation turned out to have a major silver lining and Sam couldn't help but smile.
