-Sirius POV-

In fact, Remus's eyes looked quite sad, almost fearful. It reminded Sirius of himself before he had gone to live with the Potters. Sirius didn't realise that he was staring at the hazel-eyed boy until James' voice cut through the thick air of silence.

"I'm going to find Lily" James announced as he turned and marched out of the compartment.

Remus's soft hazel eyes met Sirius' hard grey eyes. Sirius turned his head towards the floor, a blush spreading across his cheeks.

"Why is your bag so small, and why do you only have one?" Sirius blurted out, questioningly.

He noticed a flash of fear appear in Remus's eyes.

"I-I...uh, I shrunk everything to make it easier to move" Remus stammered.

Sirius wasn't convinced.

"Don't lie to me Remus, or... I'm leaving."

Remus just looked down at his hands. Sirius pulled his too-large trunk from overhead and stormed out of the compartment. James, who had just come back from pestering Lily, stood at the doorway looking back and forth between Remus and Sirius.

"Remus. What happened" James' voice traveled out of the compartment as Sirius stomped away

"I… I'm- I'm going to find Lily" Remus' yell was heard by Sirius even in his attempt to ignore it.

Sirius marched down the hall to see Lily sitting in an empty compartment reading a book. He ripped open the door and started talking.

-Remus POV-

Remus sprinted down the train looking around for Lily. He heard Lily's angry voice come from a compartment 3 doors away from him. Remus rushed into the compartment only to barrel into Sirius, who was being yelled at by Lily.

"Aah!" Sirius yelped as he toppled over.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry." Remus muttered profusely.

"Sirius," He gasped, fear spreading in him. "I-I- didn't mean to."

"It's fine, he was just leaving anyway" Lily interrupted as she glared at Sirius.

Sirius walked away in a huff.

"I'm so sorry for interrupting you Lily-" Remus began.

"It's fine, the intrusion was very welcome." Lily said through gritted teeth.

Lily ushered Remus into the compartment and gestured for him to sit down. He looked around the compartment and then elected to sit across from Lily. Remus lent his elbows against his knees and hung his head with a sigh.

"What's wrong Remus?" Lily asked gently, placing her hand on his back.

Remus' head jerked up and his arms curled against his stomach. Lily withdrew her hands quickly and took in his current demeanor with scrutinising eyes.

"What happened Remus?" Lily asked again.

"I-It's nothing, I just had to get away from… them for a little bit" Remus answered, waving his hand toward the door in a flapping motion.

Lily immediately stood up.

"What did they do? Remus, tell me what they did!" Lily asked, her voice raised in fury.

"Nothing! They did nothing, it's just… it's just…nothing!" Remus snapped.

Lily stumbled back into her seat as Remus rubbed his hands down his face.

"I-I..I'm sorry Remus" She stuttered.

"No, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to snap. I guess it's just that I've been alone for a while." It took Remus a few seconds to realise what he had revealed, eyes widening as he did.

His hand clapped to his mouth and he leaned back against the seat, his legs once again pulled close to his body.

Lily's eyes narrowed in confusion.

"What do you mean you've been alone?"

"I-uh." Remus muttered lamely.

He pushed Lily out of the way and threw open the door to the compartment. Remus started to sprint toward the bathrooms at the end of the train, ignoring the annoyed shouts of people as he moved past them. He ignored the cries of concern from his friends, who were worried. He ignored the warm tears sliding down his face. He ignored the stinging in his eyes that came every time he cried. He ignored the urge to just break down right there in the middle of the train.

Remus slammed the cubicle door closed and slid to the floor. He lay his head on his knees and wrapped his arms around his legs. And just cried.
