Chapter Twenty-Three
Their Speculations
She lowered her gaze as she took his hand, intertwining their fingers. Gohan felt the pleasant sparks ignite at the touch.
"Videl, I…" He sucked in a sharp breath. "I don't know if… if we…"
Gohan swallowed thickly, leaving his sentence unfinished. Videl raised her head and her vibrant blue eyes locked on him. Her lips curved in a smirk.
"What happened to your unwavering confidence, Mr. Strongest-being-in-the-universe?"
He chuckled and ran his spare hand through his black, spiky hair. "Beats me… I'm pretty sure you'll always make me nervous, Videl, extra boost of confidence or not."
She smiled coyly and stepped closer, pressing her soft body against him while she wrapped her arms around his neck.
"Is that so?"
His face heated up a few degrees more. Feeling her so close… How could he ever keep a cool head when the most incredible girl was all against him?
"Very much so. I'm a nervous wreck when I'm with you, and I doubt that'll ever change." He smiled and cupped her cheek. "Weird thing is, I don't mind it one bit."
She turned red, but the smile never left her lips. Gohan leaned in, slowly, their eyes falling shut, closing the distance between them.
He felt himself sink deeper and deeper as he experienced that feeling once more. The sparks exploded, wiping out everything in sight for miles around. Gohan held Videl firmly against him, deepening the kiss, and swallowed her moan with delight. He unlocked her hair, freeing one pigtail after the other, then he held the back of her head, his fingers tangling in her thick tendrils.
It felt so incredible. Kissing Videl… There were no words grand enough to describe how it felt. The chemistry between them was just insane. He groaned against her lips. The pleasure was too much. He was losing his mind.
After some time, Gohan started pulling back. He kept his eyes closed, his face inches apart from hers, trying to catch his breath, his heavy pants mingling with hers.
"I love you," he whispered, his voice hoarse.
He felt her hand on his cheek. "I love you too, Gohan."
He smiled. His chest was glowing with the warmest light. Her love for him was washing over him, bathing him in its peaceful embrace.
He was happy. So happy. Gohan didn't remember ever feeling this blissfully content.
Videl wrapped her arms around his back and buried her face in his chest. She let out a deep, heavy sigh; Gohan tightened his arms around her, a slight frown blemishing his traits as he felt Videl's mood dropping.
"Gohan, I… I'm sorry… for everything."
He cracked a smile. So that's what was on her mind?
"It's okay, Videl. I know how hard it's been for you. You couldn't have known it wasn't real," he reasoned. "You were tricked. Everything else checked, so how could you have known some of the things you saw were false?"
"Still… I didn't even give us a chance. I didn't even try." She swallowed, moving her hands to his chest. "I could've used what I saw, what I knew, and try to change the future I believed was true, instead of trying to just avoid it altogether. I'm so sorry for what I've put you through."
He tightened his arms around her and nuzzled her hair. Her scent was intoxicating. "You were worth the wait."
She chuckled dryly. "Was I?"
Videl pulled away, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. She ran a hand through his hair, and Gohan felt breathless at her touch.
"I don't really get it," she said in a whisper, still stroking his hair. "You're the most amazing guy I've ever known; you could have literally anyone you want. Why did it have to be me? Why wasn't I able to stop it from happening? I mean, okay, I couldn't help falling for you, but when you're you, I never really stood a chance, did I? But you… You could have your pick. You didn't have to fall for me."
He cracked a smile, amusement dancing in his eyes. "You're kidding me, right?"
She withdrew her hand and frowned at him, not sure what he meant. Gohan chuckled.
"I never stood a chance, Videl. Me. From the very first time I saw you beat up some giant ━ that was it for me; I was done for. The way you fight, the way you move, the way your mind works, and the way your eyes sparkle with intelligence." He cupped her cheek. "I was already so attracted to you. I couldn't help wanting to be close to you, any way I could, and I hated that I couldn't."
Gohan smiled, tucking a few locks of hair behind her ear.
"You're beautiful, and brave, and strong, and determined, and kind, and so damn cunning. I never did stand a chance. It had to be you, Videl. I wouldn't want anyone else." The way she looked at him ━ Gohan felt his throat tighten as her big, sparkly blue eyes sucked him in. His voice lowered as he continued. "And I tried, you know. When you broke my heart, I considered trying to move on, to distract myself from you with someone else." Her breath hitched at the revelation, and Gohan shook his head. "But the mere thought made me feel sick in the stomach. I only considered moving on, just tried to imagine myself with someone else, and it just felt so wrong. It had to be you, Videl. It's always been you. I don't want anyone else."
She closed her eyes and two tears rolled down her cheeks. Gohan cupped her face and wiped the wet trails away with his thumbs, before leaning in and kissing her eyelids, one after the other.
She melted at his touch, his kisses, his gentleness. Videl's lips trembled as Gohan pressed his on them once more, and she slipped her arms under his armpits and around his back, eagerly opening her mouth to let his tongue in.
She loved him so much, and she felt so lucky that he loved her back. It still didn't make much sense to her, why Gohan would choose her when she wasn't all that special, when a lot of other girls were just as pretty and strong-willed and clever, but Videl decided to just count her blessings and thank her lucky star. And fate, too, because it never gave up on them even as hard as she struggled against it. Fate never made it easy for her, forcing Gohan on her path no matter how much she tried to avoid him, giving them more than enough opportunities to fall in love, never caring about what she had decided.
"I love you," Gohan murmured as he pulled back, pressing his forehead against hers.
"I love you too," she replied in a breathless whisper.
And so fate had won ━ hands down. They never stood a chance against it. Try as she might, Videl hadn't been able to rewrite history.
And she was so glad she failed.
She rested the side of her face against his chest, tightening her arms around him. Gohan kissed the top of her head, his fingers running through her hair. Videl snuggled up closer and sighed in content.
"Stay a bit longer?" she asked. "I missed you, and I don't want you to go just yet."
He pressed his lips on her cheek, his breath brushing her ear as he replied, "I don't want to go either."
She smiled. "Good."
They stayed like this for some time, just holding each other and basking in the moment. It felt so incredible, just being there in Gohan's arms. He was so warm and strong and comfy, and Videl felt so incredibly safe when he was with her.
"So," Gohan started, his voice low and soft as he broke the silence, "what have you been up to while I was away?"
"I've been quite busy, actually."
They moved to the recreational area of her bedroom and sat on the sofa, and Videl recounted everything that happened since Gohan left with Shin and Kibito. She hesitated when she got to the part where she went to see Baba with Bulma to find out who was behind her distorted visions. She wasn't sure how Gohan would react to finding out one of his friends from school was responsible for their emotional agony over the past month.
"Who was it, then?" Gohan asked, urging her to keep going.
Videl pinched her lips together. "It… It doesn't really matter. They apologized and felt genuinely bad for what they put us through. I told them to do community service for as long as they felt they deserved it to make it up for it, and they agreed."
Gohan's eyebrows scrunched up. "But who was it? Why won't you tell me?"
Videl lowered her head and sighed, massaging the back of her neck. "Because it's someone you know. A friend from school. And she's not a bad person ━ she was just grieving her father, who died in prison after I put him there. Revenge was her way to deal with her loss."
"She? So it was a girl and a friend from school…?"
She put her hand on his and looked deep into his eyes. "Gohan, it doesn't matter who it is. Those visions have actually helped, haven't they? With Buu. If I never had them, you guys might still be trying to kill him, and who knows how that was supposed to turn out. Sure, everything would've gone back to normal, everyone was alive and well in my visions and my dad would've gotten involved at some point and befriended Buu, I assume. Still, we were able to take a shortcut, and Shin fixed my visions, and now we're together. There's no reason to look for someone to blame."
She could see in his eyes that he was still trying to figure out who she meant, probably reviewing in his head every girl he had befriended since he started school. And then his frown melted away, his eyebrows rising high while his coal eyes widened in realization.
"You were with Paige earlier," he mumbled in shock. "She was bowing to you, as though she was ashamed or apologizing. And you're not friends with her. I thought it was weird that you were dropping her off when you've never even spoken to her before."
Videl leaned back and sank into the couch cushions, letting out a deep sigh. "Damn it, you're too sharp for your own good."
"So it really was Paige?"
She ran her hand through her hair. "Yes, Gohan. And while I haven't forgiven her, she does feel awful about the whole ordeal."
"So Paige was… punishing you for putting her dad in prison, where he died shortly after? She never told me she lost her dad…"
There was empathy in Gohan's voice; Videl looked at him and smiled fondly. She reached over, flicking his lone lock of hair away before grazing his forehead with her fingers, slowly moving to his temple, before cupping his cheek and stroking it with her thumb. He gave her a melancholic smile.
"What she did is really awful, but she was hurting, and people deal with loss in different ways," he said. "You may not be ready to forgive her yet, but I think I am. She's not a bad person."
"Yeah, I agree on that. Bad people don't feel bad when they hurt people."
Gohan put his hands on her waist and brought her closer. She snuggled up to him on the sofa, her eyes sliding shut as Gohan's strong arms held her close.
"Makes me wonder how things were supposed to turn out," Gohan mused, resting his cheek on the top of her head. "If you never had those visions."
A grin crept up on her lips. "I think I would've blackmailed you into entering the world tournament."
He pulled back to give her a blank stare. Videl laughed.
"Seriously?"
"I'm pretty sure, yeah." Her shoulders were still shaking as she kept giggling. "It's what I would've done after tricking you into admitting you were Gohan in Saiyaman's disguise. I would've made you promise to teach me how to fly, too."
He laughed. "Well, at least that part is still happening, albeit a little late down the road."
"So I'm guessing you would've had no choice and would've entered the tournament."
Gohan frowned as another thought occurred to him, something that brought back unpleasant memories.
"Maybe if I was in the fighters' area when that bastard was torturing you on the ring…" His fists clenched and he turned his head away. "Well, I guess I wouldn't have made the news in that case since I would've turned Super Saiyan out of sight."
Videl changed her position on the couch and laid her head on his lap, looking up at him just as he lowered his gaze to raise an eyebrow at her. He ended up giving her a gentle smile, running his fingers through her thick raven hair.
"What else do you think would've been different?" she asked, to take his mind off her rough beating at the Budokai.
"I don't know. Do you think we would've gotten together before the tournament?"
"Hard to say. I think my visions kinda make me fall for you a lot faster than I should have."
He quirked an eyebrow at her. "Oh?"
She gave him a sheepish smile. "I was kinda already in love with you before we met. The you from my dreams, that is."
He chuckled in amusement. Videl watched him in wonder. Something like that would have made him blush normally. She wasn't sure how or why Gohan changed so much, but the new him was going to take some getting used to.
"I'm pretty sure I would've still fallen for you in the month before the tournament," he decided. "Not sure I would've realized it though, but maybe Sharpner would've helped me see it then too?"
"Who knows…" She reached up and stroked his cheek. His eyes softened.
"My answer is no, I think," he said. "To whether we get together before the tournament."
"Yeah, I think I agree."
"I'm not sure how things would've turned out with Babidi and Buu though. Maybe the same way, at first at least. Who knows."
"If I knew how to fly, maybe I would've gone with you when you follow Shin and Kibito."
"Hmm, in that case, I don't think you would've been fast enough to keep up with us."
She withdrew her hand and frowned at him. He chuckled uneasily.
"Well, it takes a lot of ki to fly as fast as we do, and you're not exactly at our level…"
She averted her eyes, her lips puckering out. "I guess that's fair…"
"I think I would've advised you to go back and let my mom know what's going on," Gohan continued with their speculations. "After Shin and Kibito tell us about Babidi and Buu and we realize how dangerous the situation is."
"I wouldn't have liked it, but I don't think I would've objected." She gave him a playful look. "I do know when I'm outmatched."
He frowned. "Your unwillingness to forfeit against Spopovitch tells me otherwise."
His body had tensed completely as he recalled that memory once more. Videl touched his cheek. "That was different." Her voice was soft as she spoke, hoping to soothe his turmoil. "I know, in hindsight, that I couldn't have beaten Spopovitch, but at the time, a part of me wanted to believe I could do it, that I did have a chance to win, even as hard as he was beating me."
He closed his eyes, leaning into her palm. "It's just… Seeing you in so much pain… I couldn't take it." He smiled dryly. "I got so furious I even turned Super Saiyan."
"I guess it's my fault you blew your cover…"
His eyes were playful as he grinned at her. "Yep. One hundred percent your fault."
She chuckled. "Sorry about that."
He sighed, brushing her bangs away on her forehead. "Just… promise me to be more careful in the future, okay? Don't try to bite more than you can chew."
"I can try, but I'm not sure I can really keep that promise," she said with an apologetic smile, deciding that it was best to be honest with Gohan even if he wished to hear something else from her.
"I guess that's fair…"
He leaned down and kissed her softly.
"I'll just have to make sure you stay safe even when you're being reckless," he murmured just over her lips. "And from what you've foreseen, I assume everything's going to be fine."
She felt breathless after his kiss, even as short as it had been. The girl needed a few moments to compose herself, slowly coming out of a daze.
She was blushing when their eyes met again. Gohan's were so soft and gentle, the way he looked at her was making her heart glow.
"It's… more than fine." She cracked a smile. "We're going to be so crazy happy, you and me. We'll have the kind of life everyone in the world yearns for."
"You're lucky you got glimpses of it…" He was stroking her hair again.
"Well, you'll get to live it soon enough."
He grinned, his eyes sparkling at the thought. "That's true. In the meantime, I get to live all of our firsts together with you. I guess I'm not that worse off."
She chuckled. "Speaking of, when should we have our first date?"
"Tomorrow after school," he replied right off the bat.
"So you are coming back to school after all?"
"I figure I can, since you said it would be okay."
The glow in her chest was spreading.
"Tomorrow is Saturday, though, so we don't have school."
He chuckled in amusement. "Right. Kinda lost my sense of time with being on a holy planet for the last few days."
She grinned. "Well, it just means we'll have the whole day for our first date tomorrow. Where are you taking me?"
His eyes shifted to the side while a slight frown furrowed his brow. "I'm not sure." He looked back at her. "Where do you want to go?"
"I think I'm going to let you decide and just go with the flow. You do the hard work, and I'll be there to get all the benefits."
He laughed. "Okay, if that's what you want. But we switch roles on the next date."
Videl giggled. "Fair enough."
She shifted from his lap and sat back on the couch beside him. Gohan opened his arms and she readily obliged, snuggling up to her official boyfriend.
"How about bowling?" he suggested after some time.
She sighed in content as his arms tightened around her, her eyes sliding shut. "Sounds good. I'mma kick your ass though, so don't feel bad when that happens."
He threw his head back and laughed. "Don't be so sure about that."
"I guess we'll see."
He was so warm and comfy. Videl started pushing him so they both lay on their sides on the sofa; Gohan's arms were still around her and she was snuggling up to his broad chest.
Videl was starting to doze off when Gohan broke the comfortable silence with an inquiry.
"Earlier, you mentioned the Elder. How did you know about him?"
"Baba's crystal ball," Videl mumbled against his torso in reply. "After I got my answer about who was responsible for my visions, Bulma and I asked her if she could show us what you were up to, and we got to watch quite a bit of it." Her eyes still closed, an amused smile curved her lips at the recollection. "We started a bit before your dad had the marvelous idea of testing the blade of your sword."
Gohan chuckled awkwardly. "Yeah, it looked like a mistake at first, but in the end it was for the best, since we were able to free the Elder Kaioshin thanks to that."
Videl hummed in agreement. "We stopped watching shortly after he started dancing around you as part of the ceremony to make you stronger."
"I was so convinced he was all talk," Gohan admitted in good humor. "I seethed for hours, glaring at him, wishing I could just go back to training with my dad instead of wasting my time with a crazy old man ━ or so I thought. I snapped at one point, when it was well past the time he said the ritual would be over and yet he still wasn't done, claiming it was because my hidden potential was too big, so it was taking a lot longer to bring it all out ━ but I was positive it was all for nothing so I told him off, but as my anger and frustration skyrocketed, so did my ki ━ and it was like nothing I ever felt before. I couldn't believe how strong I had gotten ━ and to think the Elder wasn't even done yet."
"So that's how you changed?" she inquired.
He hummed in reply. "It's a transformation, but it's not tiring or energy-sucking like the Super Saiyan forms. I could stay like that all the time."
"I see…"
She kinda missed the shy and awkward Gohan, even as much as she loved this new side of him too. Well, Videl figured she would just have to ask him to go back to normal whenever she wanted to see that other side of him again.
"I really like this new form," Gohan admitted. "I feel so much calmer and more self-assured. I feel like I could do anything."
She smiled. She liked hearing him talk like that, without any doubt, without any waver in his voice. She could definitely get used to this side of him.
She grinned. "Do you think you can face Bulma? Because she was seething when Goku all but sold her to that old pervert."
"Oh, man… She is so going to kill me."
Videl giggled at his expense. "And your dad too." She paused in afterthought. "Even though he's already dead."
Gohan chuckled uneasily. "I knew it was a bad idea. To think he wanted to sell you to that perverted god… I don't think Vegeta would be too happy about the deal either, for that matter."
"Maybe send him to deal with the Elder. I'm sure they'll be able to come up with some kind of arrangement," she said slyly, finding the predicament quite entertaining.
He laughed. "Now that's something I want to see."
Her grin never leaving her face, she snuggled up closer to Gohan and sighed in content.
"But at least it worked," Gohan said softly, tucking her head under his chin as he tightened his arms around her. "It kinda feels like cheating though. I didn't have to work for this power, not really."
"But wasn't that power in you all along? Doesn't it make it yours from the beginning?"
"I guess. I've had my hidden potential revealed once before, but it was nowhere near as… enormous as this time. I think Vegeta is going to seeth when he realizes he's not the strongest anymore."
She could hear him smirking as he said that.
"At least the world is safe now," he said. "As long as I don't slack off again and keep training, I can't imagine any new enemy being a threat to me."
"If that happens, pretty sure it's not going to be Buu. He's completely harmless now, and Papa made him understand that killing is bad and he promised never to do it again."
Gohan chuckled. "He sure came through, your dad, huh?"
Videl smiled. "I'm so proud of him. He always knows what to say, how to handle Buu to make him understand the difference between good and bad. And he's around a lot more now, too, to keep Buu company, which has been pretty awesome. He's been gone a lot and I missed him."
"I'm happy for you." Gohan kissed the top of her head. "I'm happy, period."
She giggled and raised her head to look at him, her eyes glistening with love. "Me too. I'm so happy, here with you. It's all I ever wanted…"
He stroked her cheek, his expression softening. He leaned in and pressed his lips on hers, the kiss gentle and sweet. Videl felt herself melt. She cupped his face, deepening the kiss, pushing her tongue in his mouth, and Gohan readily met it with his. She moved her hands up, running her fingers through his soft, spiky hair. Gohan shifted on top of her, his warm hands going under her shirt, holding her thin waist.
She wrapped her arms around his neck to pull him closer, her mind shutting off as the intoxicating sensations washed over her. His lips, his tongue, his breath, his hands on her skin… Videl felt like her whole being was on fire. She arched her back to press her body up to his; she wanted to feel more of him, to feel all of him.
"I love you so much…" She breathed against his lips. She wrapped a leg around his midsection to bring him all against her. She could feel how much he desired her, pressing against her inner thigh.
Gohan pulled back, panting hard, his onyx eyes watching her intensely. She felt so weak and defenseless under his gaze.
Then he shook his head, as though to clear his thoughts. He didn't look at her as he said, "I think… I think I better go."
He got off her and sat on the other side of the sofa, his cheeks flushed as he let out a deep sigh.
Videl felt cold without his warmth. She straightened up and drew her legs towards her, wrapping her arms around them and hugging them close.
"Do you have to?" she asked.
Gohan massaged the back of his neck and looked at her with a sheepish smile. "Well, it's almost dinner time, and I think my family would be waiting for me. And so will yours for you."
"Or you could have dinner with us," Videl suggested. "My dad has to get used to you after all, and for now he's not your biggest fan."
"Thanks for the invitation, but I think it's best I go home tonight." Gohan chuckled when she pouted and looked to the side, and he scooched closer to her. He pulled her to him, making her sit on his lap and wrapping his arms around her, holding her close. "As much as I would love to stay with you, I haven't been around for two days and I missed my family. There will be other dinners, other opportunities to make your dad like me; we've got all the time in the world."
She sighed and snuggled up to him. "I just missed you. But I get it."
"I missed you too. So much. Really, you have no idea."
She giggled. "Well, we'll see each other tomorrow for our date then, I guess."
"Yeah. Although…" Gohan added, his tone thoughtful. "My mom is really eager to meet you, so if your father is okay with it, you could come over for dinner."
Her eyes lit up and she pulled back to beam at him. "I would love to! And I'm sure Papa won't mind. Wait for me outside; I'm going to ask him right away!"
She gave him a quick peck on the lips, jumped to her feet and rushed out of her bedroom, leaving her boyfriend to show himself out. He chuckled and shook his head as he got up.
He should be nervous about his mother meeting his girlfriend, but Gohan felt calm, on the contrary ━ no doubt an aftereffect of his Mystic form, which the teen was thankful for. Besides, he was pretty sure his mom was going to love Videl. How could she not? Videl was smart and well-mannered, and more than that, she was a role model to the whole city. What more could a mother ask for her son?
Gohan was carrying Videl bridal style as he flew home with her. Like she had predicted, Mr. Satan was okay to let his daughter have dinner with Gohan's family. It did take some convincing and pleading, and Videl pointed out that Gohan was indeed stronger than him so according to his own rules she was within her rights to date him. Mr. Satan had grumbled in bad faith, insisting she was way too young to start dating, and he even reminded her that she herself assured him that she wasn't interested in boys.
Videl had blushed and smiled sheepishly at that. "I didn't plan for this," she had admitted. "I just fell in love. Papa, he makes me so happy. Don't you want me to be happy?"
Her dad had crumbled at her puppy eyes. Buu had come into the living room at that moment, the adorable mini-labrador wagging his tail as he followed him, and the formerly evil monster asked if it was time for dinner yet. Slumping his shoulders, Mr. Satan gave her permission to go over to Gohan's, and then he turned to Buu and told him that the chef should be done cooking shortly.
"You're not eating with us, Videl?" Buu had asked.
"Not tonight, but I will be back later," she had replied.
"Where are you going?"
"To Gohan's. Remember him?"
Buu had lit up at the familiar name. "Oh, yes, I remember Gohan! I want to fight with him! Can I come too?"
"Maybe after dinner? I'm sure he'll be happy to fight with you."
Gohan had shrugged when she told him about it, saying that it would be a good opportunity to test his new power. Buu had been overjoyed, like always, and said he couldn't wait to see Gohan later.
She was a little nervous at the idea of meeting Chichi for the first time. In her dreams, she had a good relationship with her mother-in-law, but who knew what had to happen to get there? Would they hit it off right away or did it take years until Chichi grew to like her? Anything could happen in the next five years, and Videl wished she had had glimpses of what happened during that gap, if only to prepare her for what was to come.
Closing her eyes and leaning on Gohan's shoulder, Videl smiled to herself as she thought of her mended visions. She was destined to have a perfect life with Gohan. Sure, there would be some bad times too like for everyone, but the happiness they would share together would trump them completely. The woman from her nightmares was never in the plan; she never existed and would never be real. She was just a figment of her imagination, one of her worst fears that was never meant to come true.
She was incredibly lucky, Videl decided, because not only did she have Gohan's love, but she already knew for sure that their relationship was meant to last. She didn't have doubts or fears about splitting up and having her heart broken. She already knew for a fact that she and Gohan were meant to grow old together. He was it for her. He was the love of her life. She would never have a second boyfriend ━ Gohan was the only man she would ever be with.
She didn't have much time to dwell on her thoughts, however, because Gohan landed by his dome-shaped house less than five minutes after leaving Satan City. He put her down and she blinked at him.
She had barely felt the strong wind on her eyes, either. Did he put up some sort of shield so that his incredible speed wouldn't bother her?
"Were you always that fast?" she asked him, causing him to chuckle. He swooped down and took her hand, before leading her to the front door.
"Nope. I was always super fast, but this is a whole new level. I think I could go around the world several times in less than half an hour."
Videl gaped at him. It sounded so unreal. How could such a feat even be possible? Okay, so magic existed, and aliens, and super-skilled martial artists who could easily pass off as superheroes…. But Gohan's power…
To think it was his own hidden potential that was released. It was something that was always in him. Anyone else wouldn't have such a humongous leap in strength and skills. It was Gohan's natural talents that allowed him to get so powerful, and it was just so… astronomical. It was making her head spin.
He was the strongest being in the universe. Videl let that fact sink in, and what it meant to be in a relationship with such an extraordinary person.
She studied his profile as he reached down for the doorknob. In the end, Videl smiled. Strength or not, Gohan was the kindest being in the universe, period. She loved him for his heart first and foremost. Everything else was just a bonus.
He opened the door and called out to his family that he was home. Videl braced herself for what was to come and hoped for the best.
At least Goten already loved her.
