Devil of Babylon

"Let them die"

"Were going to save them" these are the words that I always hear doctor tell us before the start of our operations and of course I always try to answer that expectations along with my team we have a 90% success rate in our missions with a staggering 0% casuality, this is something of a very prideful thing for me after all I'm one of the elite operators here in Babel. If I can't do something small like this then I have no right of having this codename "scout" that the very doctor I admire and swore my life to, gave me.

I know this sounds condescending to those that will read this but I take great pride in being the doctor's comrade. During the Kazdel civil war he showed us that we can save those that are in trouble and smile with those very people we saved.

I remember it just like its yesterday; it may be my most precious memory… and my worst as well.

We saved the villagers from the enemies and partied with them after! To whoever is reading this!~ You should've seen the doctor! He's like a freaking fresh meat in front of those Sarkaz women! I'm impressed he didn't lay with any of them! I mean they're hot! Wait now that I think about it, he does have Dr. Kal'sit and Queen Theresa by his side so it's a bit understandable I guess. It was a sight to see the doctor being unable to say anything though! AHAHA! Those are the times!

But the night came and we were literally caught with our pants down, we should've listen to the doctor when he told us to still be battle ready. I mean we are still in the battlefield but we didn't and we enjoyed ourselves too much.

That night we were ambushed by the enemies and along with the villagers we fought them off but I think I hear d the doctor say that those we fought with in the day were just mere scouting parting. "Hehe.. Ridiculous those things earlier in the day were just a scouting party?" I mean he warned us but still I couldn't believe it.

And so we fought and fought but we were losing and badly, 99% of the villagers are dead already and the only one we were able to save is a kid who said his father hasn't come back yet.

This kid grew particularly close with the doctor and now that very same doctor is carrying that wounded infected child on his back while running for his life along with us.

And then we finally got a place where numbers didn't matter and that's where we made our stand. The doctor is in the very back of the formation with me being in the very front. He shouted orders like there's no tomorrow while doing his best to keep the kid alive. We were winning I can feel it and I saw the numbers of the enemies dwindle right before me but then… (name of the gunner) shouted that the doctor is in danger and then we saw it.

I don't know if that is the kid's parent but he was standing between the doctor and kid. The kid is trying to stand up with all he had and the parent gave him a weapon and told him to kill the doctor. The doctor is just standing there, he may be too stunned or is trying to think of a way to salvage the situation but the thing is. The kid is dying, a good chunk of his stomach is missing and is bleeding profusely.

The kid along with the father charged at the doctor. It was surprising to see the kid keep up with the father but he did. And he did so while screaming "I'm sorry" and crying his heart out. The doctor just stood there so (gunner) shot the father and child to save him.

The doctor looked at her and complimented the shot then continued to issue orders to us in order to win the battle. It felt like something was different but we still won so I didn't care that much

After that we go home and (gunner) told me it was the scariest moment of her life, I replied I feel the same but using her exact words.

"I DON'T MEAN THE FUCKING BATTLE! I MEANT THE MOMENT AFTER I SHOT THAT FATHER AND CHILD!" and she literally shook as if it's the first time she took a life and retreated to her room. She didn't even give me time to console her.

Oh, now that I think about it where is the doctor? I actually want to talk to him regarding this incident maybe he also feels worse right now.

I tried to find the doctor all over Babel but he is nowhere to be found and I can't find amiya too. I wonder where they are? (if only I tried hard enough maybe things would've changed)

I don't know what exactly (gunner) felt back then but I hope she's fine.

But I will know what exactly she felt at the very next operation that we will have.

EVERYTHING WAS DIFFERENT. During the ride to the location of the next operation, the doctor was silently looking at the map and other documents that were given to him during the briefing of the mission and after some time he started staring at the window. The atmosphere is heavy, even though we talk from time to time. It's not like before where we were always lively and talk about what we will do after the operation ends.

When we reached our destination and had the door opened for us no one dared to stand up before the doctor, for some reason we all felt pressure from him. He exited the vehicle and told us all in a very cold voice "let's go".

We complied and stand up and when we exited the vehicle what we saw was the usual, our enemies are terrorizing the villagers again but this time instead of rushing to save everyone, no one did anything. We were all waiting for the doctor's strategy again to save everyone but that was betrayed by the very next words he uttered.

"In accordance to our mission briefing we need to secure point A and B, as we had discussed before make the preparations to take control of our objectives."

"How about the villagers?" I asked

"They will last until then. For now secure our objectives. Failure is not an option"

"But if we don't save them now they will die!"

"LET THEM DIE, our goal is to end this war as fast as possible by using any means necessary. The faster this war ends the more lives we will be able to save, right now our priority is to secure the objectives and have a stable foothold to end this war faster. The lives of those villagers come after we gain those footholds. We will be able to save them and secure their lives after we have those footholds!" says the doctor.

We all complied to his order, but if maybe kal'sit or Theresa was there or maybe even amiya may have been able to talk him out of that strategy but I was too stupid to argue with him and I saw the logic from his words and that was enough to convince me.

But maybe if it was those three they would've been able to notice… notice that those words were not to convince us, they are the words to convince himself that what we're about to do is the right thing

We fought for the objectives but there were hard enemies there and it took us awhile to beat them but that "awhile" was enough for the enemies to route the village. We all stood there in front of those infected sarkaz's body.

If I was observant enough I would've noticed that all their wounds are on their back, meaning they all died running away (gunner told me about this after getting back to babel). The doctor noticed all of those details and the fact that there was a sniper observing us. It was the one who was too far for us to kill and that very sniper reported to the others where we are and the doctor think of the strategy that earned him his nickname.

"The enemies are coming, lure them here and I will take care of the rest" we all heard that and we doubted it. We all knew that the doctor is no fighter…. No maybe he is I mean I saw his body back then and there's a lot of scar but his body is toned so maybe we will finally see what he is truly capable of.

"Understood" we all replied and so we did as we were told and lured the enemies to that place. The doctor is only standing there. He is imposing but not for the reason like you're encountering someone you could never beat in a battle. He is imposing because it feels like you're about to face your sins up until that point.

After luring the enemies to that point I suddenly noticed that the bodies of those dead sarkaz are emitting light particles right now. I'm not sure what's happening but since we are all behind the doctor right now I think everything will be fine.

"All of you are incomprehensible, why would you kill the very people you're fighting for? This civil war happened because you guys want a place to call home right? Why would you destroy the homes of the others then? Did you destroy this place because you were jealous of them? If that's the case then feel the wrath of those that you have killed" the doctor then pointed up

At first the sarkaz laughed because for them this kind of situation is normal. The strong gets everything after all but then they heard rambling and all readied themselves for battle, the first to look up was the sniper and he was terrified beyond words.

"EVERYONE RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!" He screamed while pointing up, the others looked up too to see what's happening.

And then I finally noticed that from every direction I see clouds of disaster coming to our location. The bodies around us glow brighter as if they're beckoning the disaster. And the rambling of it feels like hearing the screams of hatred from the very villagers that we attempted to save but fail to do so.

WE HEARD LAUGHTER. The doctor laughed as if he was enjoying every second of it, the sniper tried to shoot him. We were worried because a sniper just tried to shoot him at the distance of a mere 10 meters. He missed not because the doctor dodged but because a rock from the cloud fell at the exact spot that he was about to be shot at. EVERYONE SAW THAT. I don't know about the others but it felt like he is being protected by nature itself at this point and this only added to their confusion and fear of him.

Someone scream that he is a devil! And I can't really refute it because he never stopped laughing even though someone tried to shoot him. And by some miracle a really big rock structure fell at the middle of the enemy's formation and killed most of them. That only served to fuel the doctor's laughter.

Without exception all of us felt fear and shudder, we are at the presence of the man who destroyed our enemies using the body of the dead infected and nature, then I suddenly remember his words…

"LET THEM DIE" "END THE WAR BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY"

And so, on that day… the devil of babel was born
