Last time on Ki Master...
Though that changed fifteen years ago. After she died, that compassion and merciful philosophy was completely lost to the Paladin. "I don't know exactly when or how, but at some point she had been interacting with a demon. One so powerful that it endangered her life." Rin knew what was coming next.
His body instinctually stiffened, something Yukio immediately took note of. "Who was it...our birth father?" Fujimoto nodded, allowing what information he told to sink in before starting on the major bombshells.
3rd P.O.V
"Yes. I-alongside the rest of the order had found out that Yuri was impregnated by a powerful demon. The Vatican which had consisted of her own kind ended up putting her on trial. Condemning her as a witch who willingly allowed evil to roam this world."
Rin's breath hitched at the statement. A witch? He knew those words all too well. If the townsfolk considered him a demon...well they considered his mother a witch. Something that he's heard for far too long.
Blue eyes glistened with tears as his mother applied ointment to her newest burns. "I'm sorry mom!" Training was a work in progress, and though Rin knew that he had to get control of his powers...he didn't like using them.
Especially when his mother insisted that she be the target. "It's ok Rin. This something that must be done. Better me then our house or the forest. Unlike them, I can handle this." She tried to cheer him up as she wrapped her injured form in bandages.
But it didn't work. Her child felt so guilty as he hugged her. "I don't wanna use my flames anymore! I want to be normal like Yukio and the other kids at my school!" Sighing the huli-jing wrapped her arms tight around him. Nuzzling the top of his head affectionately.
"Rin. We live in a world that is gray. A realm where good and evil intermingle. Our powers are dangerous when used incorrectly, but failure or mistakes...that's not a bad thing. I know it's hard, but the more you practice, the better and easier it becomes."
Already the young half demon was progressing faster then the shape shifter anticipated. And she made sure to praise and encourage him every chance she had. Despite the guilt and sadness the poor boy felt, she was so proud of him. It was better then her upbringing at least.
She recalled her brothers and sisters laughing as she struggled with the most basic of spells their grandmother taught her. Then whenever their elder kin weren't looking it was a battle of dominance where Ming Xia had to fight tooth and nail to survive.
"I know you won't understand this...But sometimes the better path to take is the one less traveled, that's more difficult to walk on." There was only so much the demon mama could teach him. He was still so young.
But right now her concern was nipping those thoughts well away from his mind. "Besides being normal is overrated. In human story books, the heroes are usually the ones that stand out or have challenges most couldn't handle. I know if my daughter was still alive she'd be struggling right alongside you."
Rin was still pouting as he clung to her stomach, but his tears stopped. "I still don't like it. You keep getting hurt. You got burns and scars all over." Smiling softly she made him look up at her, before giving him a flick on the forehead with a laugh.
"Owch! Mom!" Making him wince as he rubbed the sore spot. "I've dealt with far worse then your flames Rin. I used to be considered a witch or enchantress of darkness while fighting exorcists when I first came to live here." Bright blue blinked in confusion at the terms.
He spoke his mind with innocent curiosity. "What's a witch?" Oh dear...twisting her lips to the side she hummed. Not exactly sure what to say. How to explain this to a young child without being too detailed or biased?
She really should right a book on the concept...probably sell quite a few copies considering. "They're...terms to describe people with powers-magic. Usually it's referred to humans, but demons were among that category. Most of the time it's not a nice thing to be called."
Her eyes darkened for a minute. Intimidating the young boy, quickly he tugged on her skirt, wanting her attention back. "Mom?" Sighing she gives a sad look, one he desperately wishes to shoo away. This wasn't like her.
"Witches, like demons aren't all evil. But due to hatred, ignorance and fear they're beings that were tortured and killed." In the ancient days anyone could point a finger at you and sentence you to death. It was a scary time.
Though people no longer believed in such stories, considering them fairytales. The witch hunts would not be forgotten or forgiven so easily. Ming Xia most certainly wouldn't.
Shaking his head Rin returned to reality. "Our grandfather tried burning her to death along with us?!" Shiro looked pained as he continued. Swallowing the lump in his throat he kept going. Ignoring the horrible memories coming back to the forefront of his mind.
"Yes. And that was when Satan had appeared. His powers at this point was so strong that any vessel he took turned to ash. He killed many people so Yuri could escape. She had fled to a forest, taking advantage of a strong snow storm to hide while going into labor."
It was a miracle she could move in her condition. But it helped that she had many allies. Ones that no typical exorcist would expect. Her familiars and the roaming demons protected her, finding her a cave to settle in so she could give birth.
They stood by her side, acting more like family then those she shared blood with. To anyone else it would've been a baffling scene. But to him? It only made sense. "I...had been ordered to exterminate you two. And Yuri should she still be alive." He in all honestly didn't want to go through with the job.
It would've been the cruelest thing he could've done. But like Yuri's father and many of the others within the order Shiro was scared of the powers Satan had. Having two literal hell spawns of his come into this world was a danger that no matter what had to be prevented.
So Fujimoto stole a powerful demon killing blade and searched relentlessly for the tamer. "I know this isn't something either of you wanted to hear but I had planned to go through with it. Satan and I were never on good terms, but I like many others were afraid of the powers he had and passed down."
Hurt flashed across Yukio's features, but he hid it well. He needed to be told, Fujimoto had to continue. "Mephesto and I had tracked her to the cave where she had just birthed the two of you. But...much to my surprise there was another person in there." Shiro made sure to glance at Rin.
"My mom?" His answer was unsure, leading to the older man to nod with a small smile. "Yes. She had explained to me earlier her side of the story. But when I found her there fifteen years ago...well she terrified me." To an extent she still does, though he wouldn't admit it.
And frankly that fear was for different reasons. "She was in some sort of hybrid form, her demonic aura radiating off in large waves. Rin was already in her hands as she reached for Yukio." He had seen innocent smiles on the twins faces, heard carefree childish gibberish escape their forms.
Shiro had no clue who Ming Xia was back then, but had assumed her to be one of Satans' minions. Coming to kill Yuri and take the children. "I panicked, forgetting about my mission as I shot at her. I was about to tell her to let Rin go and step away from Yuri when she blinded me with an illusion spell."
That's all what caused the twins separation, an ironic understandable misunderstanding. "Yuri was barely alive, having been too weak from giving birth. She was rambling incoherently in her final moments, clutching her human baby, calling him 'Yukio." He stayed by her side in those final moments.
Whether she was aware of his presence or not didn't matter, she was heartbroken at the loss of her son. Or...that was what he had originally believed. "I had decided after her death that I would raise you, to make up for betraying Yuri's trust and losing Rin." It was out of guilt he had taken part in raising him.
Over time he had come to love Yukio as if he was his own. Though he regretted many things in his life, Shiro wouldn't give up his adopted son for the world. Though he had be remorseful that he could never find his long lost twin. He couldn't tell Yukio the mistakes he made, so he stayed silent until now.
"I should've been honest about your origins a lot sooner Yukio. But I had figured after finding no signs of demon changes that it would've been hard to believe." The elder priest was right about that. Even now, despite hearing it from Rin, Ming Xia and now his father it still sounded farfetched.
However he had to believe it, truth was stranger then fiction it seemed. "I wanted to protect you and raise you properly Yukio. That's why I taught you to be an exorcist, to defend yourself. I'm sorry for not saying anything up till now about your mother and origins."
He would accept whatever his son throws his way. Rin sat, watching with a relieved sigh as his brother rose to his seat to hug the old man. For a moment, no one could read Yukio's expression, which scared the elder twin.
"I'm horribly upset with what i've been told, but that still doesn't change the fact that you've loved and taken care of me all these years. It'll take time for me to forgive you for hiding things, but I will forgive you."
It was a heartwarming moment. A sense of understanding and love. Rin would've shed a tear if he wasn't so tired. "I have to apologize to you too Rin." He found himself surprised as his employer addressed him with a sad smile. "About what?" The teen was genuinely confused.
Other then teasing the hell out of him, he hasn't done anything. "Well Ming Xia is still on my ass about my shooting skills, but beyond that, because of our misunderstanding you had been separated from Yukio all these years. On top of being forced to hide who you were." Oh...was that all?
The ravenette simply shrugged, unbothered. "It was no big deal." Actually he was amazed with how Shiro was taking this. Immediately he thinks about the conversation he had with his mother the day he first met Yukio after watching over him for so long.
Even though she felt her son shouldn't get a job to help her pay the bills, she was so ecstatic knowing he made a friend. Granted it was his twin brother whom he was separated from at birth but did she care for the specifics?
Absolutely not! "Ma-can't br. eath." Pouting she lets her son go, giving him a chance to breath while he questions how a woman on bedrest could be so strong. "Seriously mom you're overreacting. Actually I'm more surprised you're not lecturing the hell out of me." Sighing she slumped against her pillows.
"Honestly I should, seeing how Shiro Fujimoto is one of the most powerful exorcists in the order. However he didn't figure out your disguise, and personally I think taking care of Yukio has softened him up a bit. So at the very least should you get caught he'll hear you out before shooting you like he did me."
He took it way better then him or Ming Xia ever expected. There were a million scenarios that Rin and his mother thought of when coming to Shiro finding out. Yukio's reaction was far more sensible and even then Rin was expecting to take a literal bullet.
Still. The half demon was grateful...for a lot of things. "Even though she's not my real mom, Xia loved and treated me as if I were her own. And she was able to teach me how to properly control my powers. I'm glad for the life I have-even more now that Yukio's in it...if he wants to that is."
Yukio simply offered a hand. One that showed no hesitation, no twitch of nerves. "We have a lot of catching up to do. A lot of stories to share. I have no intentions of letting you go just like that." Shiro watched with pride as Rin's expression brightened, accepting his brother's friendship and offer.
This...was something the old priest never thought he'd get to see. Not just the twins being reunited, but this sense of peace and harmony. Yuri when she was alive always believed in the principals that humans and demons could co-exist. That they could get along.
Seeing his adopted human son turned exorcist completely trust and care for an inherited demon spawn of Satan should not have been possible. But it seems exceptions could be made, at the very least for two long lost brothers.
All three men turned to find Ming Xia return in a flash of light, only to fall onto her knees. "Well things seemed to have gone nicely. Glad to know that someone is having a better day then me." Blood pours from her hand as she sighs. "Mom!"
