Ki Master
Chapter 19
Author Notes: It's been too long my friends~ Have no fear I've been working on this story(and a million others-hence why it took so damn long for me to get to posting) in the background! So boys and girls let's not waste time. I do not own Blue Exorcist!
3rd P.O.V
"At this point Rin i'm ready to give you permission to set this building aflame!" She couldn't believe this! "Ma chill. I'm sure grandma Rasha has something in her books." Ming Xia was ready to rip her nose off.
Her son despite his words was looking to do it right along with her if the crinkled expression he was wearing was anything to go by. Even Yukio looked disgusted and his sense of smell was nowhere near as strong. It was times like this where she wished she was human.
Mortal senses were nowhere near as sensitive. "Between the mold and these wretched coal tars infesting my territory i don't care! These things are going tonight!" Samael truly was a bastard that was on the Ki teacher's shit list as she and her adopted sons went through the several volumes scattered.
After what was...arguably a decent first class Ming Xia had planned on relaxing in her new home. Maybe chit chat with Yukio a bit more while Rin occupied himself with dinner(because of course her workaholic son took control of the kitchen) only to find her frustration heighten not even a step inside.
The musky, dusty stench was horrible before. But after cleaning and letting the damn place get some fresh air it should've been enough for the group of three to sleep decently for the night. But no. With glowing eyes the huli-jing scoured every inch of the building in her mission to find the source of her agony.
Whatever was here needed to be cleansed. But it seems as though she only scratched the surface of the horrors of the dormitory earlier today. Coal tars acting like the disgusting pests they were buzzed in large hordes around the even more deteriorating molding spots.
Honestly if Ming Xia wasn't somewhat of a clean freak or germaphobe before...she certainly was one now! "Have you tried the brew consisted of chamomile, lavender and sweet woodruff?" Yukio furrowed his brows as he scanned the pages, wondering how on earth Rin could read these in the first place.
Not only was the paper and writing certainly worn from age, but it was also in ancient Chinese. "That was what I used when I first started cleaning. Ugh! Find me my wolfsbane. I'm going to combine it with oregano, rosemary and dill." She was NOT playing around...
Especially when she was brought the chosen herbs. She immediately snapped her fingers. With a bit of her magic she caused the air before her to combust. "Whoa!" In seconds the herbs she requested were set aflame, creating a strong floral scent. One that made those coal tars flee right out the door.
"You better run you abominations! And don't you dare return." Ming Xia went to quick work into placing a container filled with the burning mixtures in each room. "Isn't that dangerous?" Yukio watched with sweat dripping down his brow. This wasn't how he imagined he'd spend the night either.
Rin shrugged with a grin, looking to be the only relaxed individual here. Though considering he's lived with the woman since birth...this was probably normal behavior before she got too ill. Or maybe he was just too happy that he didn't have too terrible of a first day of school.
No one knew for sure. "You've got a brother and adopted mom who are demons with powers over the elements and life energy around them. With the mom saying she wants her son to set the dorms on fire...I think this is the better option."
A snort escapes the glasses wearing teen. "Good point. Still...it'll probably take ages for all the mold to go away." Panting their mother figure returned into the room. "That's huff-my problem to worry about. Aren't you two needing to go see the priest?" With her finger she points towards the outside.
Though she had a clock in her old home, she never really needed it to tell time. It was for Rin if for nothing else then to be a cute little decoration on Ming Xia's wall. Being as old fashioned as she is, there were no issues on her part for knowing what day it is or when.
And even if she didn't-anyone could tell it's now nighttime with the moon just beginning to reveal itself to the sky. "It's getting late, and he said he had to talk to you both about something important did he not? Best get moving." With wide eyes Yukio thanks the woman before dragging his twin out the door.
Leaving the fox demon to sigh. "What a day." Fatigue was growing, but she was nowhere near done with this mess. "Let's see, if I can combine foxglove with some cilantro, thyme and crushed ginger root, it should get rid of the mold."
The ancient being was tempted to go with the boys and get some holy water from Shiro...before shaking her head at the stupidity of the idea. It would no doubt get rid of the mold and any other impurities in her new home. But not only would she need huge amounts of it-even more than her herb remedies...
But the aroma of holy water was actually far more potent and would more than likely make Xia and Rin more sick than if they just dealt with the mold sticking around. With a groan Ming Xia rubbed her aching temples. The way things were going she was going to be up all night getting rid of this infestation.
She still never figured out what to do with her new class of students dammit! Now granted, again today wasn't so bad. She didn't embarrass herself or stutter to the point where she wanted to crawl into a hole in shame. But it was an introductory class-and she even dismissed them early just so she could leave!
"Well now that I got all your names down allow me to introduce myself. My name is Ming Xia. I'm here to teach you Ki Manipulation Theory and put it into practice." She didn't even finish her well planned speech before hands started shooting off into the air.
Holding back a sigh, she prepared herself. "Yes you...Shima?" Immediately a grin formed on his face, making her feel uncomfortable. "Are you single?" Rin bit back a growl as Ming Xia gave the pink haired boy a deadpanned expression.
Was he actually seriously asking her that? She's a teacher! "Next question. You with the glasses. Miwa I believe." He gave her a small nod and apologetic smile. "Yes um. What exactly is Ki? I've never heard of it." Now she did sigh, though this one was in relief.
"That I can answer with a bit of continuation of some backstory of my life. Ki Manipulation Theory, though is my expertise was originally developed by my husband." Out of the corner of her eye the flirtatious teen somewhat deflated.
Before getting smacked by one of his companions, causing her to smile. "Ki-is actually taking the concept of the Chinese word Chi." Chalk in hand she goes about drawing a stick figure surrounded by swerving, curved lines as well as the two words she just mentioned.
So she wasn't an artist. She was a writer, her pen was meant to create words, not pictures. So screw the annoying snickers that came from her students. It wasn't like she wanted to be a teacher-let alone be made fun of for her lackluster skills. Pointing at her masterpiece she locks gazes with her class.
"Chinese use the term chi as a form of energy. Life energy to be exact. My husband in general liked to travel, but he came from a long bloodline of exorcists. Constantly he saw a world that was not in the typical black and white setting of demons vs humans."
This was where things were going to get complicated. "He had an ideology where demons were not the wicked beings that invaded Assaiah to destroy humanity. That is only a part of the whole picture." She could see the children's expressions change. Frowns of disbelief.
"He had theorized that demons, much like humans had souls, lives and though were different in many ways-had similarities to the point where them as well as all other living beings relied on Chi-or what he called Ki-which also stands for Kinetics. Something akin to mobile energy." They needed proof.
Or rather she needed to make sure they took her seriously. That she wasn't spewing bullshit. So with a smirk she decides to give her new students a little demonstration. Narrowing her eyes she snaps her fingers before holding her hand slightly furled.
As if already holding something she focused, bringing forth a black light in the shape of a sphere. Small gasps were heard as she now began bouncing that light up and down as if it were some sort of ball.
"When fully grasping control of Ki and the fundamentals of it you can obviously manipulate it to your will. You can make it take form, whether it's from you, your opponent or even the life around you. Currently i'm using my Ki which can also be called 'aura' or my 'life essence' to manipulate. "
Though she doesn't state it, everyone was able to take the hint that she could easily take their Ki as well. But found shouts of surprise when Ming Xia throws her demonstration. Very nearly hitting the pink haired student that annoyed her earlier.
Had he'd moved even an inch, he would've looked just like the wall behind him. Which had a nice clean circular shaped hole. The boy in question was pale, barely able to swallow the lump in his throat. It seemed everyone had their attention on her now. That was good.
"On top of using it as a weapon, it can also be used to heal. You're essentially transferring energy-much like how a doctor would transfer blood to someone who needs it. But that's more tricky. For now we're more or less going to focus on the fundamentals my husband developed and see where it goes."
Immediately a hand shot out, causing her to pause. It was the last of the little trio in the back of the class. "Yes? Suguro was it?" The overly serious boy nods, his eyes full of defiance as he rises from his seat.
She could already tell, he was probably going to be a struggle to handle. "Why did your husband care about demons while developing this Ki Manipulation? And why are you teaching it?" They were good questions. Which considering his records...wasn't any sort of surprise.
But it was clear that just by meeting his gaze that he did not at all share in her husbands' ideals of demons. With a small huff, their teacher sits on her desk, her eyes closed while interlacing her fingers on her lap. She's silent for a few moments, thinking.
"From a young age, my husband saw the horrors of being an exorcist. Something I don't think any of you will truly grasp until you get out there. But...instead of seeing a battle between good versus evil. He saw a battle of survival. Of lives lost." To this day she still questioned his thought process.
How he could grow to see that there was more to demons than what he was told? "He'd seen families or what exorcist's would call hoards of demons perish in excruciating pain. Heard screams of agony before their bodies disintegrated into nothing."
She recalls his last moments then. How he smiled up at her, apologizing for leaving. Apologizing for not saving their child before falling limp in her arms. After that...everything is a blur. One she didn't need to focus on. Not now anyways.
"As for why I'm teaching? Well. My husband was killed by his own colleagues. His fellow exorcists that he called allies. Along with my one year old daughter due to his ideas and beliefs." Suguro clamped his mouth shut with an audible click. Certainly ill prepared for her explanation.
Of course, it wasn't a total shock for her. His aura showed that was arguably the one that held the most trauma. That had gone through something so horrid that it left his visual Ki a dulled hue. "I'm not telling you this so you can take a one-eighty on your perspectives on demons. Far from it."
She hops off her seat then. Walking down the lane with her hands behind her back. "Demons can be evil, they can be dangerous and hurt you. But so can humans. Understand this children...I am not an exorcist. I did not even want to come here and be your teacher."
She clenches her fist at the thought, hating the fact Samael got what he wanted. For fifteen years he left her be to a life of peace, allowing her to grow weaker just so he could chime in and uproot her son's life. Her next choice words were found to be spoken with a strict, cold tone.
"Circumstances forced me to be here today. But I am not teaching any of you under the notion that you are learning this to better kill demons. No. You will learn as to understand how to defend yourselves as well as others." Her husband may be gone.
But his spirit lives on. His wishes along with Yuri's for a world of understanding and co-existence were still long ways off. However, with each new day she can make a difference. She can keep their hopes alive by passing down their stories. Even if these kids didn't understand now.
"Currently I am the only one capable of actually putting theory into practice. None of you may be able to, you may all possibly be able to. But this was never my end goal for you. This class is about learning about the world around you and about yourself with a different perspective."
They can always reach that understanding later. "I'll end today's class at that. I won't assign any homework, but I do want you to think about what I've told you." Rome wasn't built in a day, but it was destroyed within a night.
She had to do this right. "This class will require a strong will, incredible focus, as well as an open mind. If you don't think you can achieve all of those necessities then don't bother showing up next class. This was my husbands' legacy, and i'll be damned if its misused."
Sighing Ming Xia rest her back against the wall. Hours ticked on as she went about cleaning. Neither of the boys had returned but that was fine with her. She expected Shiro taking them for the night so she could get this done. And she appreciated it.
Especially since Rin would've noticed her somewhat vacant eyes. He would worry, demanding to know what was bothering her like the worry wort he was. "Ling, little Fan Niu please watch over me as I try to guide these kids." But this wasn't his concern. Especially with the shit his half brother is pulling.
"One day down...an endless amount to go." Raising her hand, she takes off the bandage, smiling as the wound has at last closed. Though most wounds on her body disappears without a trace, this one has not. She wasn't concerned as this was supposed to happen.
In the light she could easily see the the kanji for promise-'Nuòyán' engraved onto the back of her hand alongside thorn like vine markings stretching all throughout her wrist and fingers. Looking more like an extravagant tattoo then a scar.
"Let's see where you're little game leads us Samael. You can't hold me and my kin here forever...especially with a blood oath sealing your movements. No matter what I won't let you treat me and Rin like your pawns any longer."
to be continued
Author Notes: So before I forget-Fan Niu- Fan(mortal) Niu(girl) I liked the sound of the name and wanted the name to incorporate that if she had lived Ming Xia's daughter would've been a half breed like Rin as well as follow her parents' ideas/philosophy.
But I gotta say, this chapter went pretty well. At the very least it was entertaining to me and I got some plot points going now that I got our demon duo in school officially. Sadly thought it must end here.
As per usually ladies and gents I would like to thank each and every single one of you for reading...especially with how long it took to post. If you like the series so far please feel free to fav/follow/review as it would mean a lot to me! Tchao for now.
