Ki Master

Chapter 20

Author Notes: We have returned~ And we hit chappy 20 now! Of course my poor main character had a bit of an infestation last time...Time to see how that went as well as do a loving family bonding session. I do not own Blue Exorcist.

After literally spending the entire night cleaning Ming Xia was ready to cancel her later class. Granted the huli-jing was incredibly happy that her territory was finally sanitized to her satisfaction, but it took nearly all of her requested supplies and again literally the whole night to accomplish it.

Mentally and physically she was exhausted. Last night's dinner was skipped to get it done, leaving her to feel a tad faint up until she grabbed something to eat. Currently she was going through her grandmother's tomes in her little shack of a classroom. Finding the one that she had been thinking about the last few weeks.

She had just enough ingredients to try this energizing brew however that would have to wait. Right now she was fine health wise. She had finished a full breakfast and was surrounded by nature filled with pure Ki.

However...despite those small plus's she was in no mood to deal with any kids today. "Ma? You ok?" Or rather...kids that weren't her kin. "Hmm yes." Rin didn't look like he bought her answer. "Really? Then why do you look like you're ready to keel over. Go get some sleep."

Ever the worry wort, her precious son. Though she was surprised to find the ravenette in her classroom so early in the morning. "Don't you have class right now? What are you doing here?" Ming Xia frowns while crossing her arms. Giving her son a stern look. One he's purposely avoiding as he scratches the back of his head.

"I'm skipping." It was only their second day-he can't be doing this. "Rin..." He scowls as he drops his bags onto the floor. "It's a day off for everyone except for yours and Shiro's class...and he kicked me out." A sigh escapes the woman as she gives him a glance over.

Watching as he plops his butt onto his desk glaring at the ceiling. "What happened?" It was several minutes before he answered her question. Though he was hesitant. Knowing she was going to be disappointed with him.

Not that the woman wasn't already. "I...was struggling to keep up with his lecture. I couldn't concentrate, then I couldn't answer a question of his so he smacked me with a book. I got pissed, argued until he sent me outside. I said screw it and came looking for you. The dorm look nice by the way."

Sleep deprived or not he wasn't changing the topic. Especially with the fact that after last night when he was presumably at Shiro's only to pick a fight with him today. "Rin, he's your teacher. You can't do this." He lowered his gaze, his tail drooping to the ground.

"You had no problems in my class yesterday and all I did was talk." If there was one thing she knew was that Rin didn't like classes that just held lectures. He was a hands on learner. It wasn't a good excuse for him to behave like this however.

And he knows that. "Yeah but you don't sound boring when you teach. And at least in your class even if I didn't know what Ki is you explained it good." She had a feeling he was being biased in his claims considering he's had to listen to her his entire life.

But she says nothing, letting him continue. "As soon as class started he started droning on about these different herbs that wasn't even in the homework he gave us yesterday." It was odd to her after hearing that. As far as she knows, the point of homework is to go over knowledge presented like a foundation.

Such information should've been discussed, so she could see why Rin couldn't understand. Then again she's never attended school so it wasn't like she was one to judge. They didn't have any of that in Gehenna and in general she never bothered in Assiah.

It was one of the reasons why Rin struggled so much when he was younger, as Ming Xia though did her best to help explain the concepts-didn't have common human knowledge. Still the demon woman could only shake her head. "Was that why you and Yukio were over there last night?"

A huff escaped the teen, his mood not any better then when he walked in. "He wanted to know how our first day was and how you were doing. Then made me do the homework." His mother snorted, amused. At least the priest was taking his parenting duties seriously.

Though any humor she had left seeing her child nip his lip with sad eyes. "Ma I-I'm not smart. I was barely able to do the homework assigned from class with Shiro and Yukio's help. I don't think I can do this." Her response was a swift smack in the head.

"Ow!" She gave him a stern look. "Don't you dare talk down about yourself Rin. Not only does it upset me but it's just not true." There was no way in hell she was going to let him go down that path. There were no negative Nancy's on her watch!

Especially when it's her own son. "But I'm not going to be able to keep up with these lessons! Right now i'm only doing two. That doesn't count regular school AND the rest of the exorcist cram sessions. Even with what you taught me it's not going to help. It's not how they think."

That was unfortunately true. What she's taught him all his life wasn't what a typical exorcist believed or did. Matter of fact nothing she did was considered typical for either species. It was clear that Rin was undergoing a royal handicap.

No matter what though, this line of thinking could not grow. "So we just need to reach a middle ground Rin. It's too early to give up." In her opinion, this is no different then when his powers awoke.

Granted a failing grade is different then the house burning down, yet the feelings he has is the same. "You don't make something out of nothing Rin. You make due with what you got." No confidence and fear of failure. It didn't help that the stakes are high should things go wrong.

"But Yukio makes this look easy! He was able to finish everything in like ten minutes, while it took me hours." Nothing in this world was ever easy. And even if that was the case, there is a balance. "Guess it's time for an early morning lesson then."

With a wry smile Ming Xia summons one of her aura balls before swiftly throwing it his way. "Whoa!" Immediately he dodges, his reflexes saving him within a second. That was good, very good. "Note his choice of weapon Rin...what does Yukio use as an exorcist?" The boy's lips purse in thought.

Not seeing the point of her question. Regardless he knows better then to not answer. "Guns. Why?" Instead of replying she throws another aura ball his way. "H-hey! Stop it mom!" Once again, he is able to avoid taking a hit.

"Yukio is good with academics. He thrives on book based knowledge. He is not one for physical confrontation as his weapon allows him to attack at a distance. That distance gives time for him to strategize." Closing her eyes Ming Xia calls upon her Ki.

The dark light forming to an image clearly in her mind. A katana made of her power. The teen stares at it with surprise, stumbling as his mother throws it into his hands. "Watch it!" Him nearly falling off the desk from trying to catch it. Suddenly his mother is right there in front of him as if she teleported there.

Silencing any sort of protest before it could even begin. Gently she taps on the blade, purposely causing the weapon to vibrate and glow as she infuses more of her Ki into it. Her fingers then shift up to her son's messy dark locks in affection.

"Rin you've always been someone to learn through experience. Your strengths have always been your ability to keep moving and rely on instincts. It's not necessarily a skill for school but it is important for being an exorcist. Like I said we need to find a middle ground."

He says nothing, unable to meet her gaze and instead focuses on the sword. Oh he was listening to her as she spoke but he couldn't help but stare at the weapon given to him. Despite it being made of Ki, it's solid in his grasp, as if it were a real sword.

This was the first time he's seen her make something that didn't flat out disperse. The teen had expected it to dissipate the moment he caught it, yet it was still here. Cautiously his hands gripped the handle, surprised to find it comfortable to hold.

There was a sense of warmth coming off the magical blade, which made sense considering his mother made it. Rin could feel her feelings of worry and patience through it. "Come with me." Rin glances up to find his mom head towards the clearing.

"Wait up!" Grabbing his bag he rushes to follow. The two walk in silence up until they reach the center of the clearing. Spring has officially come as the warm sunshine was melting the snow. It was unusually nice considering the time of year. "Did Shiro give you any textbooks for his class?"

Blinking her son goes through his bag, fumbling through the various notebooks and papers before finding the book in question. "Pass it here." He does as told, holding it our for her to take. The half demon waits a few moments.

Letting her skim through the first few pages before shutting the book with a hard slam. "Ok. I can work with this." With a snap of her fingers comes more aura balls. Dozens surround the two of them. "Huh?" Rin had expected her to throw them his way, but they sat there mid air.

What was confusing to him was the fact that each one had Chinese kanji on them. "What are you doing mom?" Her eyes glitter as she gives him a mischievous grin. Even if this doesn't work, at least she'll have some fun.

"Helping you with your studies. We're going to play a game Rin. I'm going to read off the properties of what each herb does from the book you just gave me. Your job is to cut the aura ball with the right herb i'm describing." The gears were turning in his head as he listened.

His curiosity piqued. "Slash the right one and I'll give you one item that you'll be able to buy for groceries next shopping trip. Slash the wrong one and the aura ball will explode in your face like in one of those mangas you read."

Already it seemed like Rin was getting into position. "What do you say Rin? Think you can handle it?" His eyes were full of excitement as he readied the sword. This was his first time holding such a weapon, but Ming Xia couldn't help but smile.

He was holding it properly as if he was already trained or understood the basics of sword combat. It made her eager to see if this was a weapon that suited him. "You're on! I wanna make hot pot for dinner tonight!" It'll be like killing two birds with one stone for Ming Xia.

"No matter what though you're apologizing to Shiro later." Her son stays out of trouble. And he'll have a better chance of understanding his classes. "Fine." Depending on how things go...maybe she'll do this when she officially has class later.

She could use the opportunity to safely release the frustrations she's had the last couple days. On top of that, she'll also be able to better explain her husband's research to her students when they come to see her. At this point she'll be killing a whole flock with the stone in her possession~

To be continued

Author Notes: Not going to lie, if it wasn't for the fact her Ki would probably be the equivalent to a mini bomb i'd so do this in real life. It'd be a lot of fun~ Or at the very least it'd be fun watching poor saps get a blast in the face.

Leaving that aside i'm really liking how this story is going. Sure its a bit mundane and slow paced now but I mean...I feel like our characters in the manga and anime are too unlucky or too action based. Everyone needs to chill and appreciate the little things in life.

Especially when I really start torturing them in this series~ But for now that is it. Guys thank you so much for reading! If you like this series so far please feel free to show your support by faving/following/reviewing! See you next time-tchao for now.
