Ki Master

Chapter 21

Author Notes: Alright boys and girls, it's another week, and that means another new chapter! And I gotta say it is time we get some of the canon stuff in here...kinda. For any of you guys that know the manga series inside and out you know who's coming. I do not own Blue Exorcist.

3rd P.O.V

"Ahh!" Ming Xia was barely able to hold back a sigh as her son went flying. Again. "Rin I think you should stop for now..." Smoke surrounded her son's form as he groaned, laying flat on the ground. "Nooo! I can do it!" Now he didn't fly Too high or far mind you, but she could clearly see he's reached his limits.

They've been at it for hours now. The shadows have captured the suns rays, bringing forth night. "Rin honey. It's late, you have classes. I have classes..." He struggled sitting up, his body shaking just to pout at his mother, only to fall back onto the ground. "Finnnee!" He would relent...for now.

Which was the most she could ask for as she approaches his exhausted form. "Come on you brat. Up and at em." The teen was frowning but he still took her hand and pulled himself back up onto his feet. "You'll get it Rin. If anything i'm impressed with how far you've come with Ki manipulation."

It has been about a month since classes first began for the two of them and fortunately things have been progressing well. As far as classes and Rin's homework is concerned that is. "All I keep doing is having my aura explode. You make manipulating Ki look so easy!" Now Ming Xia was proud of how far he's come.

"It took me a good year for me to even summon my Ki Rin...if anything you're breezing through this. Which is actually bugging me-the way its going you're going to master fully on forming shapes in no time." At this point he would've started skipping classes or given up entirely on studying.

But between her Ki ball game, Shiro's lunch tutoring sessions AND Yukio's evening tutoring sessions, her kin was staying on track. "I will figure out how to make those ki bomb thingys! And blast them at that stupid roosters face!" However, she wished he was as devoted to his social skills.

Specifically the making friends part. "Riiinnn...what have I told you?" She gives him a stern look then, making him wince before kicking a pebble. "Yeah yeah I know-but he's soooo annoying and rude! Especially to you-you can't say that asshole doesn't get on your nerves in class."

She could only sigh before shaking her head. "He's not that bad Rin. As a teacher I gotta respect him for wanting to ask questions about Ki and my husband's theories." Out of all the students that Rin had to clash with, it had to be Ryuji Suguro.

"Yeah but does he have to be a know it all snob? He's always arguing with you. And then he's always trying to pick a fight with me! Did I tell you he tripped me in gym?!" He did indeed, about a hundred times. Still, he continued on, not even giving her a chance to answer.

Here we go...he was in rant mode again. "Come on, let's head to bed." A few choice mutterings escaped the teens mouth but he relented. "He gives you any shit tomorrow his ass his mine." Ming Xia could only roll her eyes. She could protect and defend herself thank you very much.

Rin needed to worry more about himself. "Try to behave? For me? You don't have to like him, but if you have any hopes of surviving as an exorcist, you need to work with the rest of your classmates." There was no comment out of his mouth as they continued walking.

He couldn't deny that he really hasn't interacted with his class with the exception of Yukio and arguably Ryuji. Though that was probably due to his awkwardness and past experience then anything else. If cooking, fighting or Ki manipulation isn't involved then he's like a fish out of water.

And...in all honesty Ryuji wasn't so bad, again he was a very bright and curious student. Was it tiring sometimes when he wanted to go into deep discussions about the origins of Ki and why there wasn't much study of it?

Yes, but to be fair, it was only her and her husband who actually decided to delve into it. And due to her circumstances and his beliefs, it made sense that no one else was interested in the theories they concocted. However that didn't stop Suguro's attitude and mouth to go off at times...as well as Rin's temper.

Those two were like oil and water. "Yes mom. But he insults Mr. Ling all bets are off. You don't disrespect the dead. Especially after what you and your family went through." It was the best she was going to get she supposed.

It didn't help that when she wasn't doing lectures, she was doing meditation sessions to try and help the children open their ability to see Ki. Frankly it was a bit boring, especially to her since she could already, obviously see it.

She felt it was too soon for her to do Ki ball with them after Rin took a nasty burst to the face. She was lucky he could heal fast, otherwise there would be a lot of questions as to why Rin had some severe burns and smoke marks. Guess Ming Xia had some work to do as well.

"Speaking of disrespect...you did apologize to that Shiemi girl right?" Once more she receives no answer, and despite trying to peer into his face, he stubbornly avoids her. "Rin." His body involuntarily flinched, knowing her patience was waning.

The wrong kind of buttons were being pushed. "I tried to...but she keeps running away from me." At that his mother sighs, finally turning her gaze away from him. "Considering the circumstances i'm not surprised."

Apparently there was a bit more to the story all those weeks ago when Rin and Yukio had to go see Shiro. Though it was surprisingly enough Yukio that accidently blurted the news to her. And of course, that little blurt led to an...interrogation.

"Is she still staying with Shiro?" The next morning after their little guy time sleepover, Shiro took them to a supply shop for exorcists and ran into a bit of trouble with a low level plant demon. From what Ming Xia had gathered, the girl was possessed by the weakling and Rin got mad at her for fighting with her mother over it.

Traumatizing the poor child. A huge mess that the demon mother was somewhat glad to not be a part of. "Yeah, I guess she's staying there until things cool off between her and her mom." Up until she found out that Rin, angry at how she treated her kin, yelled at her to the point that she started bawling her eyes out.

Yukio was put into a tight spot since he's been friends with Shiemi since childhood. Agree with Rin that she was too harsh and stubborn with her mother. Or defend her against Rin for his blunt, rude words. Honestly the elder woman wouldn't have considered this much of an issue.

People, both man and demon get into arguments all the time. It's not the end of the world as some people just do not have the same views on things. Were it not for the guilt written in her son's eyes, she would've just told him to move on. But she can't, and neither can he.

Even though he was right to an extent, he still said some things that could be considered mean. In general her soft hearted boy just doesn't like making girls cry. "Guess we're taking a little detour before bed." Rin furrowed his brows as he looked at her, not exactly knowing where this was going.

Especially when she pulled out her wallet from her back pocket, handing him some money. She could only give him a tired smile. "Head to the store, get some ingredients to make one of those pastries things and we'll head to the priest's domain." It was then the pieces clicked together.

"You think it'll work?" He licked his lips nervously. He wasn't kidding when he said he's been trying. But the girl literally ran away the moment he was in view. And...well he tried running after her once, only to get accused of harassing her.

To say it was a disaster was a serious understatement. "It's an idea, and it can't create results any worse then what you've been doing right?" Once again, the elder demon was right. But being hundreds of years old brings about a wisdom not too many have. "Thanks mom. Anything specific I should make?"

A hum escapes her lips as she peers up at the sky. It was a full moon tonight, bright and mystical. "Hmm...why not make a light, sweet version of a moon cake?" She wasn't sure what really brought on the idea, but it seemed Rin didn't have any problems with her idea.

"Going to have to switch around some of the fillings..." A grin came to her lips as he began muttering to himself. While he was going to focus his attention on making the perfect dessert, Ming would get the chance to try her hand at the what she now dubs her 'Ki Elixir.'

Hopefully it tasting better as well as keeping her from accidently sucking the life out of whatever's near her. She's been studying her grandmother's books on her downtime, and has carefully been grabbing ingredients and experimenting on her days off.

Now to really put it to the test and fingers crossed get better results then when she first brewed the disgusting concoction.

It was the moment of truth. "Maybe we should head to bed and come tomorrow? It's late and all that." Ming Xia snorted, rolling her eyes as she rested a hand on her son's back. Gripping his shirt to keep him in place as she knocks on Shido's door.

"Don't back out now. Not with all the work you put into making those." She eyes the pastries hidden beneath tin foil. If he didn't go and use the opportunity now, he'll never be able to properly apologize. So she went and tightened her hold, she could feel the strain in the fabric as he leaned away.

In terms of strength it was a bit hard to tell who would win, however there was no way she was going to let her son run away-and he knew better than to defy her. "Well this is a surprise...what can I do for you?" Too late to flee now.

Ming Xia couldn't help smiling as her gaze flickered behind the priest. Both Yukio and the girl were there, wary expressions on their faces. "Apologies for the late intrusion, but Rin had made a good too few snacks and we thought we'd share."

There was a sense of distrust in Shiro's eyes, and the huli jing couldn't blame him in the slightest. "Is that right?" Half truths and manipulating words was what her kind was known for. It was very easy to weave sentences to get people to lower their guard around her.

"Yes-would you mind if we come in? In general I would like to speak with you about the damn reports our wretched headmaster is having us do. I'm sure the little ones can entertain themselves in the meantime." Now that part of the reports was true.

Even though the original purpose was to help her son, it didn't hurt if she got the aid she needed as well. Because damn did she curse the amount of papers and planning she had to do as a teacher-let alone for a school of exorcists. "Of course. Come in."

With the priest's permission-there was really no excuse Rin could find decent enough to slip away. Swallowing the lump in his throat he enters, catching Shiemi's eyes before she swiftly turned away. "Thank you." The atmosphere was tense.

However it was hard to say where the harsh air was coming from. It seemed everyone with the exception of the shapeshifter was on pins and needles. These humans and half breeds really needed to let loose honestly.

'RIN!' Both Ming Xia and Rin both blinked before something small and black crashed into the teen. "Kuro~" It took a minute for the adopted mother to realize that the small, loud creature was Fujimoto's two-tailed cat familiar.

She's personally never seen the creature, but she's heard enough stories from her kin since the feline has been a common guest. Due to the fact that one of the exorcist career paths was that of a tamer, it made sense for Shiro to bring him in to help teach the children.

Still, she was a bit surprised that not only was Kuro so attached to the son of Satan, but also that Rin could understand him as she heard him give a quiet murmur. "Alright, time for the adults to talk. Go have fun Rin."

That was his cue to remember why they were here in the first place. Sobering the short lived smile on his face. "K..." Biting his lip he maneuvers around Shiro, tentatively walking towards his brother and Shiemi.

A triumphant grin formed on the fox fairy's face seeing the blonde girl not run away. Oh she looked like she wanted to, like a deer in the headlights, but she still stayed in place. "Can we head to your room Yukio? There's something I need to say." Yes.

This was the perfect opportunity for Rin to properly say sorry and introduce himself to the girl. And it looked like Yukio seemed to understand exactly what was going on because he ended up giving a small nod, leading the pair away. Kuro sticking to Rin's shoulder as if glued there.

"Do I want to know the real reason for you coming?" He waited till they were alone to ask such a question. How rude. She couldn't help snorting at his implications. They've known each other enough at this point, he shouldn't be TOO worried. At the very least her intentions weren't malicious.

Everything she does is for the sake of her little hell spawn. "Don't insult me priest. Rin needs to socialize more with different types of people. And I do need your help with the reports. Especially given the exam Samael is going to force upon them within the next few weeks."

It was time to get to work.
