Ki Master
Chapter 28
Author Notes: I've survived 2022-yippee! And this story still isn't done *cries* Why do I make my workload harder than it needs to be dammit!? Oh well. Time to complicate an even more complicated story. Here we go my friends. I do not own Blue Exorcist~
3rd P.O.V
It was too early in the morning for Ming Xia to be frustrated and nervous. "Ma? Ma chill, it's just a field trip." Untrue. When the damn clown is involved it's anything but. "Yes but I can't even accompany you...it looks like only Shiro is to be involved." It wasn't that she didn't trust him per say.
She just didn't like being uninvolved in things like this. As much as she had no doubts Rin would be fine-he's been taking care of things quite well she would admit...A field trip out to a deserted amusement park to investigate ghosts just left her senses tingling.
Like something was wrong. "Maybe we can convince the old man to have you chaperone?" Despite the hope in his voice, she knew it wasn't happening. She was a demon, and even without that she was not an exorcist.
Going on assignments like that would be impossible. So she could only sigh as she ruffles her son's hair with a small smile. "The letter specifically says I'm banned from coming. Besides...I unfortunately have a field trip of my own to make." He raises an eyebrow at her.
Suspicious. "It's not to Ling and Nui's graves right? Because you promised I could come!" She most certainly did promise, actually surprised when he stated that he definitely wanted to go. Though...it would be question of when and how the hell she was going to convince Shiro and Samael in allowing it.
"I did. Don't worry, this is just something I need to take care of. And since I won't have classes for the day, it'll be the perfect opportunity." Now he looked even more skeptical...he knew his mother well, and she was not one to go out on a day off.
Rather she'd be happier relaxing in the grass or trying to improve her recipes that she's still translating from her grandmother's books. "I don't HAVE to go. Shiro said it was an optional thing." Oh no, she was putting a stop to that train of thought right here and now.
For many reasons. "Rin...this is your chance to spend more time with your classmates, explore your horizons and learn what being an exorcist actually does. You can't skip out of this just because of me. All I was going to do was visit my grandmother. Not very interesting right?"
With that tidbit of news his eyes grew wide. "No! Now I definitely don't wanna go! I'd rather meet grandma Rasha!" Ming Xia silently cursed, ready to smack herself for her stupidity. Well, that backfired gloriously...now what to do?
She had to think and think fast. "If it makes you feel better she desperately wants to meet you if the letter I just received from her is any indication." Ming Xia already knew she was in the human world...waiting for her arrival.
So regardless what Rin wants, things had to get situated. "Really?" She had to play this right if she had any hopes of properly meeting the old woman. "Yes. But me and her desperately want to catch up. She did say she'd be here awhile, meaning you have plenty of time to meet her later."
It's a few seconds of silence before he sulks, already knowing that he could push and needle as much as he wants...he wasn't going to win. "Fine...promise me you'll tell her I wanna meet her!?" Perfect. Her smile grows bigger as she hugs her little hell spawn.
"Of course~ Like I said she was so excited when she heard about you." There were clearly cracks in this conversation. "Awesome! I'm gonna go make lunch and then pack my stuff!" He rushes in a blur. It was a good thing her son wasn't the brightest crayon in the box.
Previous stories would've sent warning signals with what she's told him. Starting the fact that her grandmother knows about him in the first place in her letter. There's been no way for them to communicate since Ming Xia chose to stay in this realm, there was no way she could've known.
Let alone request to meet the both of them. As much as the demon mother WAS excited to see her favorite kin after so long, something told her it wouldn't be as smooth of a visit as she would want. Especially since her grandmother warned that she wasn't the only one visiting.
"Please. Please just be grandfather..." Fingers were desperately crossed as she follows her son's trail back into the abandoned dorms. "Ma! Coal tars are trying to nest in the living room again!" Oh great. With a groan she quickens her pace.
Those little pests picked the wrong day to invade. "Buzz off your irritating wretches! Otherwise prepare to become my latest set of decorations!" This day was just full of surprises...none of them too pleasant. "Rin get my herbs! We're starting dinner early!" That got them running.
Good riddance! "That's it fly! Fly away you pathetic excuses for demons!" If only it were that easy getting rid of that irritating ex of hers...a girl can dream.

The time has come. "Are you sure you got everything?" It was time for them to temporarily part ways. "Ma..." She smiled as she went about fixing up his school uniform. His hair was a mess too now that she looked at it.
"Now make sure you listen to the priest. This will be a big step for you in the exorcist world." But she couldn't be surprised since his alarm didn't wake him up on time. "Ma please..." It was actually a miracle that the both of them showed up before the rest of his class.
Giving them the chance to play the roles of adoring mother and son just a bit longer. "By the time you get back dinner will be done but I'll still need you to go to the store so long as your not too injured or tired-" The moment someone that wasn't Shiro or Yukio show up, it's back to teacher and student.
Which in all honesty sucked. "Chill mom. I'll be fine and I have the list of all the things I need to get at the store. You don't have to worry." Worry may as well be her middle name. No matter how much she tried, Shiro was not telling her a thing about the assignment other than what she knew.
A sigh escapes her. "I know. Still, I can't help it. This is your first ever field trip. Come home safe and sound yeah?" They both knew why, and it's why as embarrassing as it was(he wasn't a little kid anymore dammit) he gave her a hug.
"I promise Ma. Everything will be ok." Demons took their promises seriously. So Ming Xia could only smile and ruffle the hair that she just spent time fixing. Before both of their ears prick up. "We got company." The two separate.
Both looking towards their left. "Hey guys! About time you got here~" A snort escapes the woman. If not for her Rin wouldn't have even arrived. "Shut up! You look like you just crawled out of bed!" Well...Suguro wasn't wrong.
Looks like he was as sharp as ever. "Morning Rin~ Teach? What are you doing here?" She offers a grin to the rest of her students, ignoring the look she was getting from Shiro.
"I figured that I'd send you all off. This is your first big trip after all." She crossed her arms, as if daring the priest to speak up about her not being here. She got her son up and ready, and wanted to wish them luck. Was that such a bad thing?
If it was she didn't care. "It's not that big a deal Ms. Ming. It's only a day trip." Kamiki was blushing and it warmed the demon mother's heart. Immediately she approached the girl. Planting a soft pat to her head.
Out of all the students, she grown fond of this one most. Despite being what Rin calls a tsundere, she tries so hard to understand on whatever subject she needs to, to work bettering herself and her skills.
Something Ming Xia could relate all too well...and even if not. Her eyes tell a story of an unhappy life, of one full of sadness. Honestly this girl needs more love and affection in her life. If the demon mother could offer even a bit of comfort, how bright could those eyes shine?
"Big deal or not. I wasn't going to miss the chance to see you off with wishes of success." Her blush grew twice in size. "Er-whatever." So cute. "Thank you Ms. Ming Xia!" She sends a look towards everyone, giving them a smile.
Before landing her gaze specifically on the blond haired girl. "Think nothing of it Shiemi. Remember your training and to listen to Shiro. I want to hear all about it when you return." They grew on her faster than she thought.
But it wasn't a surprise...they were all good kids despite their quirks. "You're not coming with us?" It was actually funny seeing a few of them deflate at that. "Fraid not. This is exorcist business apparently. Outsiders stay out."
Not that she didn't try dammit. "Aww." She had to nip this little depression in the bud no matter how much she agreed. All of them had things to do. So she places her hands on her hips as she huffs. Sounding exasperated with their behavior(which was true...kinda.)
"Come now none of that. Despite it all I do more than just teach you kids how to cause chaos. I got to take care of some things while you're off, but I'm serious that I want stories when you come back. Now get your asses in the bus. Adventure awaits."
That seemed to do the trick as everyone(some more reluctant than others) marched one by one inside the bus. "Thanks Ming Xia." She simply waves it off. "Think nothing of it. Just take care of them for me." It was a promise he could do.
Especially for her son. "Of course." She watches as everyone gets settled by the windows. Each of them waving, even the more stubborn individuals as they rush off...leaving the mama demon all alone to sigh. "Well...best not keep my family waiting."
It was time to head off herself. And she was not looking forward to it.
to be continued
