Chapter 5: The Journey to Redemption
Yokai Schoolyard
Tsukune, Akasha, Kurumu, Mizore, Yukari, and Moka were all watching the new student that just arrived. Gohan had returned to their world, back to Yokai Academy. However, there was a noticeable silence around them as they only kept watching the young man but did not utter a single word.
Gohan looked around them and didn't know what to think or approach the situation, as he looked at each of his friends and tried to speak up.
"Soooo… Hello everyone, I am here, back at Yokai Academy and… see I uuhh…" Gohan stuttered nervously about the awkward situation.
Then, the girls downed their eyebrows and looked at him with their arms crossed. Tsukune kept himself at a distance as he knew that he was the only one whom Gohan talked to before leaving school.
"That's weird, we don't seem to know you, our friend decided to leave school without telling us anything about it, who might you be?" Kurumu said angered and agitated about Gohan's return with her hands on her hips.
"I know that you guys are mad, but…" Gohan spoke when he suddenly got interrupted.
"Why is this stranger even talking to me?" Kurumu said lividly at the young man with black hair and glasses on.
"What makes you think we want you back here Gohan?" Akasha replied strictly.
"I think it's best if you just go away Gohan. You didn't want to be here with us, so you are not wanted here anymore," Mizore coldly told him when she turned around out of disappointment.
"So just take your leave, you have done enough damage already," Yukari replied lastly as the hostility of the group was a clear sign for Gohan.
Gohan didn't speak up anymore and knew that it was too late.
"I understand, I guess it was a mistake coming here. I'm sorry for everything," Gohan said when he grabbed his bags and turned around.
Moka only kept looking at him and sighed, though she knew there was something else going on. Then, someone from the group decided to speak up to the boy who decided to leave campus.
"Gohan!" Kurumu shouted as the boy turned around and quickly got tackled by the Succubus, followed by Akasha, Mizore, and Yukari.
"Daahhh!" Gohan shouted.
"Oh, I am so so so glad you're back, it was so boring without you here!" Kurumu said happy and relieved while hugging Gohan tightly.
"We missed you so much!" Yukari spoke up and enjoyed it.
"I didn't think you'd return after what you said in that video!" Mizore said next.
Gohan was surprised to see that his friends were happy to see him again.
"Wait, weren't you guys mad at me for being gone?" Gohan asked.
"Oh yes, we are furious about what you did," Kurumu answered quickly.
"But still, you're our friend, and we are just happy you decided to come back!" Akasha replied.
"Yes, I am truly sorry for what I did, and I will do anything to make it up to every one of you. I promise," Gohan replied sincerely of his actions.
Kurumu then grabbed Gohan by his shirt and pulled him right in front of her with great force. "But don't you ever just leave like that without telling us! You got it?!" Kurumu demanded from the young man.
"Yes, I promise Kurumu, I promise!" Gohan replied to the Succubus.
They then helped Gohan off the ground, as then Tsukune walked up to Gohan and pulled his hand out.
"Welcome back Gohan, I am glad you're here. I guess you managed to work things out with your mother?" Tsukune asked.
"Yes, but it wasn't me, but another friend of mine who managed to convince her to transfer me back to Yokai Academy. Her name is Videl, and she is very nice, without her, I don't think I could have convinced her," Gohan explained.
Moka overheard what Gohan said about how he returned, as it sounded familiar to her. "Videl convinced Gohan's mother for him to return to Yokai Academy? Hmm…" Moka thought for a moment.
Meanwhile, the group still talked, and while their conversation kept going, Moka decided to walk up to Gohan. The others saw Moka walking and while Gohan saw her as well, he knew exactly what was coming next.
Moka punched Gohan straight in the face, not talking to him, not even ridiculing him. All she did was show an expression of mortification towards Gohan with narrowed eyes. Then, she turned around and entered Yokai Academy, slamming the door hard behind her.
"I knew it would go like this; I know I disappointed her," Gohan said when he tried to go after her, but then, Akasha held Gohan's hand, preventing him from following the silver-haired vampire.
"Gohan, she… punched you," Akasha said shockingly.
"Yes, I was expecting something like that to happen, pretty surprised it wasn't a kick though," Gohan replied when he then looked at Akasha.
"No, I mean, she… punched you. If Moka punches you, then she is truly angry with you. She always uses kicks because it is a more elegant way to fight, but when she punches, it's serious business," Akasha replied worriedly.
Gohan couldn't say anything about that, only that he would have to do a lot more than he thought to be on Moka's good side again and how difficult it will be.
Then out of nowhere, the headmaster of Yokai Academy, Tenmei Mikogami appeared before the students.
"Students, your class is still proceeding as we speak. Return to your respected courses. There will be enough time to speak to Gohan, for now, I must speak to him, as it is an important matter," Tenmei Mikogami said when he first looked at the group, then at Gohan.
Akasha then nods when she, Tsukune, Kurumu, Mizore, and Yukari all went back inside the building and back to class. Meanwhile, Gohan was left alone with the headmaster who teleported himself and Gohan to a different location.
Headmaster Mikogami's office.
Mikogami teleported himself and Gohan back to his office, with the headmaster sitting at his desk and Gohan in front of him.
"Gohan, I am glad that you managed to find a way to return to Yokai Academy, I am guessing your friends gave you a warm welcome?" Mikogami asked.
"Not really, but that is my fault, so I will have to find a way to compromise," Gohan replied to the headmasters.
"I see, well then, I hope you succeed," Mikogami said when he then stood up from his desk and walked around. "You don't have to worry, you can have your old dorm room back, I already transported your luggage to your room," he told the Half-Saiyan.
"Thank you very much, sir," Gohan replied politely.
"Now Gohan, the reason I brought you here is that I have a request," Mikogami said when he continued. "A couple of days ago, we had a little problem with one of the school clubs, I am sure you are aware of the Karate club?" He asked.
"Just a little, I was mostly involved with the Newspaper Club, but I have heard of the Karate Club and their leader, Haiji Miyamoto," Gohan told the headmaster.
"Yes, I am aware of your involvement in the Newspaper Club, but it seems like one of our new students misbehaved in an unacceptable way, which forced me to expel him from Yokai Academy until further notice. Haiji Miyamoto now does not have a co-leader to assist the students. How would you like to lead the Karate club, and help the students that want to defend themselves against threats?" Mikogami asked.
"Joining the Karate Club? I don't know, I wanted to continue in the Newspaper Club," Gohan answered.
"I am sure you did, but after what I witnessed from you and your peers, I am sure the Karate club will be in reliable hands if you can teach the students how to properly defend themselves and fight only when it's necessary. I have observed you in your battles against Cell, and you are the one needed for the students to learn from," Mikogami told him.
"Hmmm…" Gohan thought for a moment.
"You can lead the Karate club with Miyamoto, and if they truly need you, you may join the Newspaper Club to assist in their daily tasks," Mikogami compromised with the young man.
"That sounds good sir, I was more thinking about teaching, I think it could be interesting to teach the students that want to learn how they can defend themselves and secure safety," Gohan told him.
"You have Miyamoto to help you with that, I am sure you'll be fine. From this point on, the Karate Club is now officially the Self-Defense Course," Mikogami told him when he then finished the discussion. "It's time for you to go to your class," Mikogami said.
"Wait sir, I have a quick question," Gohan asked hastily as he started to remember something important.
"Very well," Mikogami said.
Gohan thought for a moment about the unknown assailant he came across before entering the Monster World.
"Sir, did you notice anything… strange at Yokai Academy, like maybe unusual students or anything like that?" Gohan asked.
"Only the new student that I had to send away, Shishio Date, for what purpose might I ask?" Mikogami asked curiously.
"Well, it's just that before I came to school, I was attacked by someone, but then he disappeared. I believe he will be back soon, and something bad might happen again," Gohan told him.
"I see. I will send out a message to the Security Committee for them to be more vigilant. They have been doing a great job of keeping order and fairness on campus since Keito enlisted," Mikogami told Gohan.
"I am glad she is doing so well, sir. At least one of my decisions made a positive impact," Gohan replied relieved of Keito's progress.
Mikogami looked at the time, and noticed that class was almost over, thus, he decided to let Gohan take a break and return to his class after recess.
"You may go back to class now Gohan," Mikogami said when he dismissed the young man.
"Yes sir," Gohan said when he stood up from the chair and left the headmaster's office.
Gohan was gone, and Mikogami was thinking for a moment. He thought about what Gohan said about the person that attacked him.
After several minutes of waiting, someone came walking out of the darkness of the office. That person was Ruby Tōjō, slowly appearing before her employer.
"Headmaster, I came as quickly as I could, what can I do for you?" Ruby asked.
"I am sure you are aware that Gohan returned to Yokai Academy?" Mikogami asked.
"He is? I didn't think he would return, his mother can be very strict, I should know," Ruby explained, speaking off experience from the East District.
"Gohan told me that someone attacked him at the entrance to our world, and now he is vigilant about someone probably attacking Yokai Academy. Ruby…" Mikogami said when he then turned around to face her. "Contact the Security Committee. If there is something that makes Gohan worried, then we might be in for another threat. Communicate with Keito about suspicious behavior," he explained in a serious tone.
"Right away sir," Ruby said when she walked away and exited the headmaster's office.
The headmaster was left alone in his office, contemplating the possibility that they might be up for another threat coming soon to Yokai Academy.
Yokai Academy Schoolyard
The students were dismissed from class and entered either the cafeteria, the hallways, or the schoolyard before the next class started. Tsukune and Akasha exited the classroom as they needed to relax from Mrs. Nekonome's class and entered the school campus.
"Akasha, do you think you can help me with this assignment on biology? I am having a pretty hard time understanding it all. Those exercises about body parts are difficult to understand, and I just can't get used to it," Tsukune asked troubled and uncertain of his knowledge of monster biology.
"Sure Tsukune, maybe we can…" Akasha said when she then got pushed aside.
"Tsukune, if you want, I can help you out, I don't understand it that much, but we can still study together! Just you and me…" Kurumu said lovingly while embracing the human boy to the point of suffocation when she then felt a cold embrace around her shoulder.
"Tsukune will be working together with me, just so you know," Mizore said.
"Oh yeah? What do you know about monster biology Mizore?!" Kurumu asked her offendedly.
"More than you Kurumu, how many classes did you flunk last year?" Mizore replied.
"You're one to talk, you were most of the time not even there! You skipped class many times!" Kurumu came back to the snowwoman
Kurumu, Mizore, and Akasha pulled Tsukune's arm while the discomfort hit the high school boy rather easily.
"You guys, please, can't we just talk about it or something? My arms are getting numb from all the pulling and pushing," Tsukune asked.
"Tsukune, come on, the only ones who can help you out are Akasha and yours truly of course! We are one of the smartest students after all!" Yukari ensured Tsukune when she jumped on and held onto his shoulders.
"Seriously, my body is starting to… crumble…" Tsukune sounded in anguish and dismay.
Gohan then exited the school and approached his friends.
"Hey everyone," Gohan greeted them.
The group saw Gohan as all went back to normal again, letting go of Tsukune.
"Hey, Gohan, what are you up to now?" Akasha asked.
Then everyone let go of Tsukune as if everything went back to normal like nothing ever happened.
"I-Is it that easy? Maybe I should just stay close to Gohan, then I might survive," Tsukune thought to himself when he was finally released from the grip of his friends
"I am looking for Moka, she already left class before I could find her. It's time for me to talk to her about everything that happened," Gohan asked.
"She is sitting over there near that tree," Akasha said when she pointed at Moka sitting down, reading a book on Monster Biology.
"Thanks, Akasha, I know that I will have a lot to make up for, wish me luck," Gohan said when he walked over to Moka at the tree.
The group decided to watch and see how their conversation would go. Meanwhile, Gohan swallowed spit, not knowing how to handle the situation, but just trying the best way he can. He approached Moka until he stood next to her at the tree.
"Hey Moka, so, how is it going?" Gohan asked, yet very uncomfortable about how to handle the situation.
Moka didn't answer him and solely kept her focus on the book she was reading. Gohan scratched his head and looked around, seeing his friends holding their thumbs up to keep trying, except for Akasha for some reason.
"Look, Moka, I just want to let you know that the last time we spoke, it didn't end well, and I am deeply sorry for how everything ended. I should have told you that I probably wouldn't come back, and I was wrong," Gohan told her out of guilt, with a sincere meaning behind his words.
Moka then closed her book, slamming it to the point of startling Gohan out of nowhere. Finally, the vampire decided to pay attention to the Half-Saiyan.
"Gohan, do you remember the time when you were on the brink of death, and I saved you from Cell and the Security Committee by carrying you on my shoulders through Japan, just to get you to safety?" Moka asked.
"Yeah, I cannot thank you enough for that," Gohan replied.
"And do you remember when I nursed you back to full health by doing everything in my power to make sure you survived your injuries, to the point of almost, just almost facing the consequences of making you a vampire just like me?" Moka asked him strictly.
"How can I forget?" Gohan said when he scratched his head, not knowing how to handle anything that is happening between him and Moka. "I should have been honest with you about leaving school, and I was wrong," he replied right after.
Moka then stood up off the ground while holding her book in her arm. "Gohan, I am not mad that you left school," Moka told him.
"You are not mad at me? Then, why did you still hit me?" Gohan asked.
Moka puts her book in her bag and folded her arms while holding a stern look towards Gohan.
"I easily could have accepted that you would leave Yokai Academy, we could have kept in contact, I mean, it was already easy for me to come to visit you," Moka said when she then completely changed. "However, the fact that, even after everything we have been through, you still didn't trust me enough to tell me that you wouldn't return, is what truly angered me. Instead, I was abandoned by one of the people I relied on, the only person I could call a 'friend'. Everything that we went through didn't mean anything to you, and it appears that you still do not trust me enough," Moka replied, not out of anger, but disappointment and agitation of Gohan in general.
"I do trust you; I was just afraid of how you guys would have reacted because I got the news at a very bad time. I just… didn't know how to handle the situation," Gohan responded.
"Oh, I see, so you decide on how others should feel and if they could take the news or not. Thank you, Gohan I appreciate it that you decide how I should feel about it, instead of doing it myself!" Moka responded sarcastically and was irritated at his answer of ignorance as she walked by him.
Gohan sighs as he finally realized what the biggest mistake he made was, but before Moka decided to leave him behind, she stood still and the two were back-to-back from each other.
"I usually stay away from emotional attachments after being sealed inside the Rosarie and only coming out when Akasha and Tsukune needed help. I only took care of Akasha because she was my other half and Tsukune. After all, his blood was delicious. Even though I kept myself at a distance from other monsters, still, there was something different about you that felt right. And… it worked, you managed to gain my interest, even becoming a friend I thought I could trust. Now, I realize that even the person I trusted the most, is nothing more than a selfish, unreliable simpleton. I will see to it that you earn my trust instead of the opposite," Moka replied in detail as she finally decided to walk away from Gohan, approaching the group who was watching what was happening between the two.
"Hope you enjoyed the show," Moka only said to the group and entered the building once again.
Tsukune, Akasha, Kurumu, Mizore and Yukari first looked at Moka, then at Gohan. And even though the group wanted to approach him, Akasha decided to step in.
"You guys, I am sorry, but I must talk to Gohan alone," Akasha told them.
"What for? Do you have a plan or something?" Kurumu asked.
"No, but I need to let Gohan know about some important things," Akasha replied as she decided to approach Gohan. "Go on ahead, I will join you guys later on," she told them.
The group looked at each other and decided to have lunch in the cafeteria. Meanwhile, Gohan slowly sat down to where Moka sat across the tree and puts his hands on his head from guilt.
"Moka was right, it wasn't about leaving, but her trust," Gohan said when he realized the sole purpose of Moka's disappointment and anger.
"Gohan?" Akasha sounded.
Gohan saw Akasha standing. "I understand why Moka is so angry with me, I don't think she will forgive me for this," Gohan told her.
Akasha then decided to sit next to him at the tree. "She will forgive you, but it's just going to take some time for her. You really hurt her Gohan," Akasha told him. "You should have seen her when she found out that you weren't coming back anymore on the first day of school, I have never seen her that angry and depressed before," Akasha explained.
Gohan looked at Akasha.
"She was waiting on certain moments for you to arrive until you didn't. She eventually gave up on you ever returning and wanted to forget you even existed to move on. Still, she couldn't fool us because we knew that she missed having you around her. Moka decided to join the Karate Club to find some distraction and find out what her true purpose was, now that she is not sealed away inside of me anymore," Akasha explained.
"Moka joined the Karate club? I didn't think she would need to join the Karate Club," Gohan asked.
"Yes, but that only caused more problems in the long run, and don't even get me started on that new student, Shishio Date, he went too far, only because he had a crush on Moka and tried to replace you. He got on her nerves, and eventually, Moka was done with everything and everyone. She only really talks to me now because she shields herself from other people because of what you did," Akasha explained.
"It's much worse than I thought, I have to find a way to fix it, I need to bring Moka back to us," Gohan said when he only raised his fist.
Akasha then went inside her pocket and show Gohan what was in her hand. Gohan couldn't believe what he saw and only kept watching the object in Akasha's hand.
"That's… my…" Gohan stuttered.
"The watch you gave her on her birthday. Moka gave it to me because it reminded her too much of you. I think it will be one hell of a task to get Moka on her good side again. I hope you know what you're doing," Akasha earnestly told him.
Gohan sighs and then stood up off the ground.
"Akasha, please hold on to that until Moka wants it back," Gohan requested to his friend.
"I will Gohan, but I am sure that when Moka trusts you again, she will take back the watch," Akasha reassured him of the situation.
Gohan nodded in agreement to Akasha and walked away from the vampire.
"Good luck Gohan, please bring back my sister," Akasha said when she looked at Gohan leaving her.
Security Committee Headquarters
Meanwhile, at the Security Committee headquarters, Keito was in her office, administrating the important paperwork on the students of Yokai Academy.
"Seems like most of those freshmen are behaving, except for this one… Kokoa Shuzen needs to be kept in check. I don't know why, but that name sounds familiar to me," Keito said when she continued with her work.
As soon as she finished up the most difficult tasks in administration, from outside, a crow flew into her office. Keito looked at the window as she saw the crow flying. She puts her pencils down and stood up from the chair.
"Didn't expect to see you this soon, you only come to me when the headmaster demands it, so I wonder what the occasion is," Keito told the crow that flew in.
The crow started to form into Ruby Tōjō, as she performs the task handed to her by the headmaster of Yokai Academy.
"Keito, Headmaster Mikogami sent me to hand you this message," Ruby said when she thought for a moment. "Gohan returned to Yokai Academy," Ruby told her.
"I am aware of what my subordinates let me know, why the visit Ruby?" Keito replied.
"A possible threat to Yokai Academy. It was something even both Gohan and the headmaster was worried about," Ruby said when she looked down for a moment to contemplate the warnings.
Keito turned a serious eye toward Ruby. "What will that be?" Keito asked.
"He does not know yet, but the headmaster wants the Committee to increase security around Yokai Academy and be extra vigilant to secure the safety of the students. Anyone that makes Gohan nervous may be a problem that affects each one of us," Ruby told her.
"So that's it…" Keito said when she thought about the situation and puts her hand on her chin for a moment. "All right, I will increase security and keep a close eye on the students for suspicious behavior, anything else?" she continued.
"No, that was it, if you find anything worth mentioning, please let me know, and I will keep the headmaster up to date on your process," Ruby explained.
Keito only nodded as Ruby used his magic wand to turn back into a crow and flew out of Keito's office. With only her arms crossed, Keito leaned against her desk.
"What are we going to get into, now that Gohan is back," Keito said to herself.
Yokai Academy After School Activities
All the students followed their last classes for the day until school was over. Afterward, the afterschool activities would once again commence. Ms. Nekonome just finished handing out the homework for her students and eventually dismissed them, wishing them a nice day.
Outside of the classroom and in the hallways of Yokai Academy, Tsukune Akasha and the others met up to discuss the plans for the Newspaper club.
"So, we have to find a new scoop for the Newspaper club, anyone has some ideas we could use?" Tsukune asked around.
"No, nothing yet, I don't think there is much to tell yet, and there are no fun mysteries now. Maybe we can talk about what happened last year, and get everyone at school up to date?" Kurumu asked.
"I don't know Kurumu, that means involving Moka and I don't think she is in the mood to be involved like that," Akasha reassured them.
"I think it's best if we discuss it with Ginei, maybe he has some stuff they write about," Mizore told them.
"Either that or he is peeping on girls again," Yukari said when she crossed her arms out of disgust at Ginei's perverted actions.
"Nope, not this time my good friends!" Ginei shouted when he immediately popped out between the ladies and Tsukune.
"Ginei! Sheesh, you surprised us there, you better not be watching us again," Kurumu said after the shock.
"No no no Kurumu, I am total with you guys. I have been looking around campus for scoops, and I really couldn't find anything interesting," Ginei told them out of desperation for the Newspaper Club.
Then, Gohan exited the classroom and stood close to where the others were standing in the hallways.
"Hey, you guys, what's going on?" Gohan asked.
"We have to think of a new scoop for the Newspaper Club, you wouldn't happen to know something interesting, do you Gohan?" Akasha asked.
"Oh, I am not sure, but unfortunately, I cannot stay, I have to go meet with Haiji Miyamoto, I am going to lead the Karate Club with him, or… the Self-Defense Course," Gohan explained.
"You're going to give lessons in martial arts Gohan? So, does that mean you're not in the Newspaper Club anymore?" Tsukune asked.
"The headmaster told me that I can join the Newspaper Club if you guys need me, but because that other student, Shishio Date I believe, was expelled for his behavior, I have to lead the club together with Haiji," Gohan replied.
"Really? But Moka also joined the Karate club not too long ago, what will you do? She's going to make it difficult for you," Yukari told him worriedly.
"Yes, I know, but I will be fine Yukari," Gohan said reassuring the witch of his actions
"Too bad Moka already left, then you could have told her about it, and because it is the beginning of the school year, you can't switch school activities yet," Akasha explained.
"I have to go now, I have got to prepare the class," Gohan said when he wanted to walk away, but then, he remembered something important he also told the headmaster.
"Wait, I almost forgot to ask," Gohan said when he stopped for a moment and turned around to his friends. "Did you guys notice anything weird going on at school?" he asked.
"Weird? Not really, well except for that one guy, Shishio Date who…" Mizore replied when she then got interrupted.
"I already know about him, but no, no, something else that could be relevant?" Gohan asked.
"Gohan, what's going on?" Tsukune asked.
"Before I came to school, I got attacked by someone or something, I am not sure, but he was hiding behind a cloak," Gohan told them.
"What? Already? The school year just started, and we already have someone or something threatening us again?!" Kurumu said irritated.
"Guys, if you do notice anything, let me know. I told the headmaster and if something is going to happen, at least, we are more prepared than last year," Gohan told them.
"Sure, you got it!" Akasha agreed when the others followed with their answers to Gohan.
"Thanks a lot, you guys, I have to go now, I will see you later, bye!" Gohan said when he ran away to prepare for his first class in the karate club.
Yokai Academy Gym, Self-Defense Course
All the current members of the Self-Defense Course were present, with Haji Miyamoto receiving the new freshmen students and the 2nd year students. While they were all gathering, Moka finally entered the gym, though she did not change into a karate gi, she only waited patiently until the activity started.
After several minutes of waiting, Haiji Miyamoto decided to start the class and ordered everyone to gather.
"All right everyone, welcome to the Karate club, but currently, we are reformed, and we are now the Self-Defense Course. I see a lot of new members and old members. We didn't start on the right foot, so let's do it the right way this time," Miyamoto introduced the activity as he continued.
Moka was only sighing as she just waited for the moment to start. "Self-Defense Course, seriously?" Moka thought for a moment.
"Now, I wish I could introduce you to my co-leader of the course, but it appears he is late," Miyamoto said when he looked around the gym and still didn't see him.
Then hastily, Gohan rushed inside the gym and unknowingly passed Moka on the way. Moka opened her eyes and saw Gohan right there.
"I just can't stay away from him, not even for more than 2 hours," Moka sounded only to herself when she released her folded arms.
"Sorry I am late everyone, I had to get my fighting gi, I forgot it in my dorm haha," Gohan said when he stood next to Haiji wearing the purple fighting gi he received from Piccolo.
"No problem, Gohan, glad you could still join us. Now would you be so kind to introduce yourself? Maybe some students are not familiar with you," Miyamoto said when he looked at the students who were in complete shock.
"Okay, hello everyone, my name is…" Gohan tried to introduce himself when he suddenly got swarmed by a group of students. "Daahh, easy you guys! I just started!" he sounded in agony.
"I cannot believe my eyes, it's you! You are the Infamous Gohan! We have heard so much about you! You are just amazing!" a female student explained.
"Infamous Gohan? What's that about?" Gohan asked ignorantly about the newly given title by the freshman students.
"We heard all the stories from the 2nd year students, you fought a vampire, and Kuyo, both S-Class monsters, in your normal human form! You even beat that bug monster, Cell that threatened the world! You are one of the strongest monsters in history!" she explained further on.
"Oh that, I didn't think I would get this much attention but thank you hehe. You don't have to treat me like that, I am just like all of you a student," Gohan replied uncomfortably yet grateful.
"Still, we are honored to learn from someone like the Infamous Gohan!" the students all praised him when they respectfully bowed to him.
"Pfft, give me a break, those freshmen need to grow up already," Moka said irritated herself.
Gohan looked around with a small laugh when he then saw Moka not focused on him, not paying any attention or her time on him. Gohan sighs and then decided to speak up.
"I appreciate it very much, but I think it is time to start our class," Gohan said out of appreciation for the group of students.
Gohan was back together with Miyamoto and continued where he left off. "As I said, my name is Gohan, and I am here to assist Haiji Miyamoto in the Self-Defense Course. I wanted to explain that I have some experience in martial arts, but you all know that already. Now, Haiji and I also have a couple of important rules. We suggest that you may only fight out of self-defense, or in an approved sparring match, nothing else. If any of you fight without these valid reasons, then we are forced to act against it," Gohan explained strictly when he then looked around. "This class is for self-defense, and teaching you the art of combat, we would like you to follow the rules. That is all, and I hope you all have a nice class together," he finished explaining when he gave the word back to Miyamoto.
"That's right Gohan, last year, we had too many fights breaking out, and though some were only self-defense, some others did it as a form of dominance. Just follow the rules, and you will be just fine," Miyamoto told them when he then clapped his hands and continued. "All right let's begin class, and the first lesson we have is energy control," Miyamoto introduced.
Moka only listened to what they had to say, whether it was interesting or not would be decided later. Gohan and Haiji continued their class.
"I remembered that I trained together with Moka Akashiya, who is currently the best student that has complete control over her energy," Gohan explained respectfully
Moka only turned her head to Gohan, but in an uninterested manner. Gohan continued his class by trying to make his students acknowledge the essence of energy control.
"When it comes to fighting, controlling your energy is essential. If you don't control it, then it will consume you, and you might hurt the people you care about the most. If you control your energy, you control your strength, and thus, you control your growth in Self-Defense," Gohan explained.
"So, all of you need to master the art of energy control first, now are there any questions before we start the lesson?" Miyamoto asked the students.
Nobody replied as expected, and thus, they would first start with energy control.
"Now energy control is simple, I will give a quick demonstration, or better yet…" Gohan said when he then looked around for a moment and noticed Moka was not paying attention.
When Moka opened her eyes, she noticed Gohan standing right in front of her.
"What do you want," Moka asked.
"Can you help me out for a moment, I need to show the class something and you are the best person to help me out," Gohan explained.
"No," Moka said when she continued to not spend her time in class.
"Please, this is important, it's just for a short time, you only need to do one thing, and then you're done. You don't have to do it for me, just for the class so that they understand it better," Gohan explained.
"Oh, for the class, then absolutely not. Do it yourself, the Infamous Gohan does not need me," Moka said annoyed.
Gohan then thought for a moment and decided to leave her alone. He went back to his students and stood in the middle of the class.
"I wish I could show you a better explanation, but when you control your energy, then you will be able to do extraordinary things, as well as discover new abilities you didn't think you had," Gohan said.
The moment he said that it sorts of gained Moka's attention as she only opened her eyes and looked at what Gohan was going to do. When Gohan bends his knees and clenched his fist, he slightly powered up while his white-colored energy was surging around his body, completely protecting him like a barrier.
The students were in awe of what Gohan showed them. "Master Gohan, what did you just do?" a male freshman asked out of curiosity.
"Simple, what I did was…" Gohan tried to explain when he then got interrupted mid-sentence.
"Create a shield around your entire body. When you control your energy, you allow your body to get used to the strain it causes, allowing your energy to reach new heights in strength and discovering new abilities that can be improved upon in the long run," Moka explained when she kicked Gohan with great force, but her kick did not penetrate the shield he created for himself. "You can for example create… a shield of energy that can either be used defensively or offensively, and you will be able to figure out several variations to assist in battle. That is what you can achieve when you control your energy the best way possible," the vampire finished explaining wisely.
Moka then walked out of the group and stood by herself again. But then, the students all slowly started clapping, which turned into applauding Moka's explanation. Gohan only nodded slightly, still happy that Moka decided to get involved at the last minute.
"Yes, thank you very much Moka, that is exactly right. That is what I want all of you to do, control your energy, and you will be able to figure out what you are truly capable of when time goes by," Gohan explained when Miyamoto took over once again.
"I am most certain that Gohan and Moka's explanation was more than enough information, let's start everyone, you will carefully start drawing out your energy in the safest way possible. That is all, just bring it out safely, and we will help you out when you need it," Miyamoto explained the students all went into position and tried to bring out their energy in a proper way.
Meanwhile, Gohan approached Moka again, and she quickly spoke to him.
"Don't think that this will change anything between us," Moka told him.
"I don't think it will, I only needed your help with these exercises, a clear example of how they can properly defend themselves from danger. But I still appreciate your help, even though I have no right to ask you, you still helped me out," Gohan said gratefully of the vampire's assistance.
Moka tried to speak up but decided to keep her silence and look the other way. Gohan decided to go back to the students. Moka saw him leaving in excitement about giving a martial arts class. The silver-haired only sighs, and showed a small grin, but that was it. A long journey was still waiting for them, one for redemption, the other for forgiveness.
End of Self-Defense Course
After an hour of class in the course, the two leaders decided to call it a day and end the class. Miyamoto and Gohan stood in front of the class to announce the end.
"Students, we are finished for today. You all did a great job. Now, some of you still have a lot to learn, while others are fast learners. Next class, we will continue with energy control, you are dismissed!" Miyamoto said when he released the students from the after-school activity.
But instead, the students stayed in place and had one more request.
"Uhm, Master Gohan, would you mind, showing us all how you fight? Like a sparring match against someone, please?! We want to see your strength!" one of the female freshman students asked.
"Huh? A sparring match?" Gohan asked surprised.
Moka looked behind at the students who were requesting Gohan for a sparring match as an example of what they can learn. "What are those freshmen doing now?" she asked herself.
"Yes, yes, we are all curious about your strength, we have never seen you fight before! The 2nd year students told us, we want to see you fight ourselves. Please?!" they asked him.
"Oooh, uuhhmm…" Gohan said when he thought for a moment. "Sheesh, I don't know, I don't think I have anyone to spar with unless Haiji wants to spar with me really quick?" Gohan replied uncertainly when he looked at the co-leader of the Karate Club
"No thanks Gohan, maybe another time," Miyamoto replied when he raised his hands uncomfortably.
"Sure, no problem… Hmm… then maybe," Gohan said when he then looked at Moka.
The silver-haired vampire noticed that Gohan was looking at her and only kept a stare on focus. Still, Gohan spoke up to her.
"Moka, would you mind sparring with me for a moment?" Gohan asked her nicely and politely.
Moka thought about it for a moment, seeing as she is the type of person to not turn down a fight. But just when she wanted to answer him, the gym doors were slammed open by someone standing in the doorway.
"I finally found you!" the person at the doorway shouted.
Everyone, even Moka out of a surprise turn of events, looked at who was at the door. It was the girl with red hair, a red vest, and a yellow-green skirt, Moka's little sister, Kokoa Shuzen.
"Gohan!" Kokoa called him out loudly.
Gohan didn't know what was going on or who the girl was, furthermore, he saw that the students feared Kokoa, as they did recognize her.
"Who are you? Do you know me?" Gohan asked.
"Know you? You got some nerve punk, you think you can just get away with everything, right?" Kokoa asked him angrily and was challenging.
Moka only watched her little sister, not responding to anything she said about Gohan or the conversation in general.
"Uuhhmm huh? Did I do something to you? I don't think we ever met. Can you tell me what I did wrong so that I can remember?" Gohan asked.
"Master Gohan, that girl is dangerous, that's Kokoa Shuzen, and she is a vampire," The female students told him.
"Kokoa Shuzen? Wait, why does that name sound familiar to me? I think I have heard of her before," Gohan said when he thought for a moment.
Then, Moka spoke up. "You know her, remember what I told you in the grass field," She only told him as he looked at her.
"I do? Uhhmm… the grass field," Gohan tried to remember.
Flashback: Dragon Ball Vampire Chapter 18: Moka's Ascension, Tsukune's Journey
"I am the third oldest of 4 siblings," Moka told him.
"Who are your other 2 sisters?" Gohan asked.
"It's a little bit more complicated than that because I don't see both of my sister's eye to eye, except for Kokoa. Hell, she might be here soon to try and fight me again," Moka explained.
Flashback end
"Wait, now I know, you must be Moka's little sister!" Gohan said shockingly.
"Good guess chump, now, let me ask you, do you even realize what kind of creatures vampires are?" Kokoa asked.
"Well yeah, vampires are creatures of great strength that consume blood. Right?" Gohan replied in an awkward and laughing manner.
"If you are going to be a funny guy, then I will make sure to silence you and your stupid jokes!" Kokoa threatened him.
"Jokes? But you asked me what vampires were and I answered your question," Gohan said confused by the girl's antics.
"You think you are worthy to be in the vicinity of great vampire strength?!" Kokoa retorted.
"I thought I already proved myself?" Gohan replied.
"Sheesh, Gohan, stop being so clueless and take the hint already. Fight my little sister in a sparring match, it is obvious that she has been looking for you for a long time, so just do it already. I did tell you that when you meet any of my sisters, to be prepared to fight them, or did you also forget that?" Moka told him sinisterly.
"No, I didn't forget," Gohan said when Kokoa then pulled Gohan to her level by pulling his gi.
"Listen, buddy, if you are who my sister says you are, then stop being a scaredy cat and face me if you dare!" Kokoa said when she stood ready to fight.
As they were talking, a bat flew around Kokoa's head, as it was her transforming bat, Kou. "Let's go, Kou, we'll show this punk what a vampire is truly capable of!" Kokoa shouted.
"Hmm… all right Kokoa, I will spar with you for a short time," Gohan told her.
"This isn't a sparring match; this is a death match! If you die, then I know you are not worthy of fighting a vampire," Kokoa told him.
"But… I already fought Moka, and even your dad, isn't that enough already?" Gohan asked.
"Hahaha, if you think lying will save your hide, then you are mistaken. If you fought Moka and my father, then you should have died by either two!" Kokoa told him confidently.
While the two were still discussing the matter, Tsukune, Akasha, Yukari, Kurumu, and Mizore walked into the gym to see where Gohan and Moka were as it took a long time for both to be ready and meet them.
"I wonder why it is taking so long for Gohan and Moka, they must be arguing again," Kurumu said tiredly.
"Let's hope not, they can destroy a lot of things if it gets out of hand," Akasha said worriedly.
"Uuhhmm, you guys, look, isn't that Akasha and Moka's little sister?" Tsukune asked.
Everyone looked at what was happening, with Kokoa getting into a discussion with Gohan, while Moka was simply just enjoying the show.
"Time's up, get ready to fight me, Gohan!" Kokoa told him when she grabbed Kou who transformed into a giant spiked hammer.
Gohan then only raised his arms, slowly transitioning into his fighting stance and prepared. Meanwhile, Moka first looked at Kokoa who was out for blood, while Gohan was simply calm and collected.
"Kokoa…" Moka spoke up as her little sister looked at her older sibling. "As much as it pains me to say this…" Moka said with a sigh. "This guy is way out of your league," she told her.
"Out of my league, don't be ridiculous sis, he is nothing but a geek!" Kokoa said when she ran up to Gohan with her spiked hammer and went in with an attack.
While Kokoa charged herself at Gohan, Tsukune, Akasha and the others decided to approach Moka.
"Moka, why is our little sister fighting Gohan?" Akasha asked.
"She wanted to, and I won't stop her, she needs to know the truth the hard way, just like me. Besides, there is something Kokoa finally needs to learn," Moka told them.
Kokoa rushed Gohan head-on, as even Gohan was surprised to see her just charging head-on without any strategy or tactics behind her assault.
"Wait, she's just… hmm…" Gohan said when he stood still.
Kokoa went in for a swing with her giant hammer and got a direct hit on Gohan, which caused an earthquake to rumble around Yokai Academy. Miyamoto and the other students, Moka, Tsukune, Akasha, Mizore, Yukari, and Kurumu were observing the fight.
Kokoa laughed as she removed the hammer from the place she struck Gohan, and he disappeared from the spot.
"He's dead, hahaha, see that big sister, what a joke, how could you even consider him?" Kokoa said confidently in her victory.
However, Moka wasn't focused on Kokoa, only on the one standing behind her. Kokoa noticed that her sister was distracted by something behind her as she turned around in a flash.
Behind her back, Gohan was standing tall and with a confident grin.
"What! How did you…" Kokoa sounded shocking.
"That was a nice try Kokoa, but I could see what you were going for from a mile away," Gohan explained.
"Ooohhh wooow!" the freshman students all cheered for Gohan during the sparring match.
"Oh yeah, then dodge this, you geek!" Kokoa shouted when she swung her spiked hammer once again at Gohan, but he didn't dodge it this time, he stopped the hammer with just his index finger while holding it in place.
"How did you stop my attack! You shouldn't be able to do that!" Kokoa shouted at Gohan.
"As I said, your attacks are too straightforward and predictable. Before you even swung, I have already figured out your attack pattern," Gohan replied.
"Kokoa!" Moka called out as she listened to what her elder sibling had to say. "I have been telling you that you are too predictable in your attack, which is why you always lose to me. You charge in without a strategy or even a small plan in mind, hoping to get lucky because of your natural-born strength as a vampire. It won't work on the strongest monsters you will face," Moka told her.
Kokoa then looked at her big sister, and back at Gohan who showed a challenging and confident expression. She then jumped back and made her bat transform back to its original form. Then, out of nowhere, Kokoa rushed Gohan again, with her normal weapon and powerful kicks.
Gohan easily dodged all her attacks, to the surprise of Kokoa seeing that Gohan is not the ordinary monster she thought.
"Why can't I hit you! What kind of monster are you!" Kokoa shouted in anguish.
Gohan then vanished and reappeared behind Kokoa and held her in a full nelson hold, restraining her movement, and ending the match.
"My apologies, but I saw a way to end this fight, furthermore, this must prove that I am better than you thought right? Is this worthy enough?" Gohan asked.
Kokoa struggled to get out of Gohan's strong grip, but he didn't budge at all, not a single muscle.
"How is he that strong, there are no monsters stronger than vampires, yet this guy, his grip is unbreakable! Just what is he?" Kokoa thought to herself in despair.
She stopped struggling, which prompted Gohan to let go of Kokoa. The students once again applauded Gohan and Kokoa for the small sparring session they held, as the impression from Gohan was very well received by both parties
The red-haired girl didn't turn around, not facing him directly. She was livid at the way she lost against Gohan like she was nothing more than a weakling and punched the ground out of frustration. She slowly turned around and showed a menacing expression, that surprised Gohan.
"If you think this is over, then you are mistaken, mark my words, you will never be worthy of the vampires!" Kokoa said when she turned around and walked away, exiting the gyms.
Gohan scratched his head, not knowing what to think anymore. "Gosh, I hope she's okay," Gohan said.
Then, Haiji Miyamoto stood next to Gohan with his hand on his chin. "Man, she has got a raging fire, I like that, very interesting indeed…" Miyamoto commented, in a yet creepy way that wasn't seen before.
Meanwhile, Gohan met up with his friends again, except for Moka who kept herself at a distance from every one of the groups.
"That was great Gohan, I am glad you decided not to fight her, Kokoa can be a bit hardheaded, but give her some time, I am sure she will like you," Akasha told him.
"I hope so Akasha, I think she just needs to get some time to get to know me. As I said, it was just a sparring match," Gohan said.
Then suddenly, Gohan got pulled away from the group, as Moka grabbed him by his gi.
"I thought I told you to fight her, what you showed was just pathetic," Moka responded.
"I rather not fight someone with misplaced anger," Gohan replied.
"I told you, fighting my sister means you must go all out, not hold back like a wuss, or else they will not accept it and you will regret it in any way possible. I knew you weren't listening back then. You disappoint me once again," Moka said when she walked by him again and left the gym on her own.
Gohan turned around, not knowing what to think, as he was joined by his friends. However, Moka didn't want to turn around, because while she was walking away, she showed a small grin.
"But then, that is typical Gohan, so much like a geek," Moka said as those were her last words to herself before she was gone.
Meanwhile, Gohan was talking with his friends.
"I knew this would be difficult, but Moka seems so much more judgmental than I used to remember," Gohan said as he scratched his head.
"Then, you can think of other ways to make it up to her, maybe even help her if she needs it," Tsukune told him.
"Of course, if any of you need my help, just let me know. I want to make up for my mistakes," Gohan said happily as the others nodded in agreement with him, as they all left the gym together.
I finally managed to upload the next chapter, it took a longer tie due to school and life in general, so I need to get the hang of things again. Not the best chapter, but I have more ideas than I can hopefully update soon. Thank you for Reading.
