Chapter 12.
Sorry for the unannounced hiatus! Life got crazy and writing took a back seat, but I'm back! I may be a little slower to update but I'm going to try and wrap up these stories because I missed them and I hope you all did too!
"So... you're not coming to the game?" Tim asked Julie before school on Friday.
"No, I'm not," Julie answered. "Rae has been fussy all week and it's an hour drive-"
"So ride with your mom."
"Okay, but it's an hour drive and we will be late getting home. She has been cranky enough, we need to keep her on a her sleep schedule."
"She sleeps really well in the car."
"I'll think about it, but we will probably stay home.
"Okay," Tim finally settled. It frustrated Julie, she desperately wanted to go to the game, but they did need to keep their baby on a schedule, so she would probably end up staying home. "Mindy has the night off if you want some company, or help with the baby," He added.
"Ok," She responded. "Hey, do you mind taking her to daycare this morning? You are taking my mom's car to the shop and it has her extra carseat in it. It's on your way and it'd be a lot of help to me."
"Yeah, I'll take her," He replied. "Let me get my boots on and then we'll go." Tim slipped his rugged looking boots on before Julie handed RaeLynn to her dad. "Tell mama bye."
"Bye you two," She said as she slung her school backpack over her shoulder and Tim made his way out the door.
"Have a good day Jules," Tim told her.
"You too," She added before he pulled the front door shut. Julie finished gathering her things for school and walked out of the house to her car where she made the drive to school.
Fridays at a Texas High School during football season were different than a typical day. Everyone was showing their school spirit, the player's wearing their jerseys, coaches sporting their red polos, and everyone else proudly wearing their East Dillon Lion's apparel. Sure the Lion's may loose, but the east side still likes to show it's support.
In between classes, Landry caught Julie in the hallway.
"You coming to the game tonight Jules?" He asked her, standing before her in his red game day jersey with a large 2 and 1 sewed on the chest.
"I haven't decided yet," She responded, replaying her and Tim's earlier conversation. "I might," She added.
"It'll be a good one, we might actually win. I think it's been a lot of help having Tim assist, it doesn't spread your dad so thin."
"Yeah, last week's game was a lot better," She agreed.
"I better get to class, see you next hour," She told her before hurrying of through the sea of red shirts to his next class.
"See ya," She mumbled as he disappeared, seriously considering the idea of going to the game.
The next hour, her mind was cloudy. She had a couple options to consider: go to the game and bring RaeLynn, stay home, go to the game and have someone watch RaeLynn. She contemplated her options, quickly ruling out the last, she couldn't leave RaeLynn with someone for the evening, especially when she left her at daycare while she was at school. By the end of the class she had decided to take RaeLynn with her to the game.
Julie pulled out her phone and shot a quick text to her mom and Tim explaining her change of plans. She shoved her phone back in her bag and approached her next class and as soon as the bell rang dismissing the students to lunch, her phone was ringing.
"Hello," She answered.
"Jules, the daycare just called me."
"Rae... Is she okay?" Julie worriedly asked.
"She's just colicky and upset, they can't get her to calm down." Julie's shoulders fell as her heart sank to the floor. I should've known something was up with her, the way she was acting and all... "Do you want me to go get her-"
"No, check me out of school and I will go get her and stay with her," Julie interrupted.
"Ok," Tami answered, hanging up the phone, no questions asked.
Julie hurriedly left school and drove to RaeLynn's daycare where she took the upset infant in her arms and back to the comfort of her own home. Once she was home, she warmed her daughter a bottle, hoping that would sooth her.
The warm bottle temporarily stopped the baby's crying, but after about an hour she was at it again. After a short crying fit, RaeLynn fell asleep on Julie's chest in Eric's comfy recliner. Julie took the opportunity to tell Tim of her most recent change of plans. She shifted her arm under the sleeping infant to press the send button on her phone, but she started her daughter and RaeLynn began crying again.
During the afternoon and early evening hours, RaeLynn's mood shifted between crying and being soothed by Julie's various actions. Once RaeLynn was settled and had quit crying once again, Julie turned the game on the radio. The sudden noise started the baby and she resumed her crying fit.
Julie was beginning to get frustrated, her sharp breathing revealed that. Anytime RaeLynn got settled down, the slightest noise, shift in Julie's weight, or any other slight inconvenience sent RaeLynn into a fit of crying. Julie was worn smooth out, nothing she did seemed to help her precious baby. It sent her into agony knowing her baby didn't feel good. A tear slid down Julie's cheek, her only wish was for RaeLynn to be at peace.
The time must have gotten away from her, for the creaking of the front door and sound of boots hitting the wooden floor startled her.
"Jules, are you still up?" Tim's voice asked in a whisper. RaeLynn erupted into another crying fit causing more tears to roll instead of slowly slide down Julie's cheek.
"I can't get her to stop," Julie cried.
"Here Jules, let me take her for a sec," Tim stated as he took the infant from Julie's arms. Julie sniffled and wiped her tears as she saw her boyfriend holding their baby. "What's a matter Rae Rae?"
"She's been fussy and colicky all day," Julie told Tim.
"Go take a shower or something, I've got her and your mom should be here any minute."
"Thank you Tim," Julie responded.
"Of course, go take a break," He replied placing a kiss ok her forehead.
