Chapter 6: Green Monster

The surgery for Dr. Philips' patient had been a success and so had the one she had just done now a week later. Two successful surgeries and having Meredith there, she was golden. It was easy to fall back into their old routine in the OR, though she did give the blonde more freedom now that she was a resident. They really had been in the zone. Meredith was already familiar with how she worked and always knew where she'd need what. They had worked seamlessly together, moving and matching each other as if in a sweet waltz.

For a moment Addison recalled the first time they had worked together, when she had been so anxious and unsure with her in the OR. The T.T.T.S. case back in Seattle Grace. She had dreaded that first time despite it being her own idea. She had been nervous with the blonde behind her yet somehow the nerves eased for some reason or another. Now though she found herself looking forward to working with the blonde and judging by the expression on Meredith's face the resident was on the same boat.

"Good job in there Grey." She smiled at the blonde as they scrubbed out.

"Me? Me?! Addison, you were amazing. Like I know how good you are but getting to see it is awesome. You're awesome." Meredith gushed with that pretty smile of hers.

"I know I am but feel free to keep praising me." She grinned and tilted her head innocently.

Meredith scoffed and rolled her eyes, "really? Always so humble."

"You know you love it." Addison smirked and mindlessly tucked a few errant golden strands behind the blonde's ear.

Meredith's face grew red quickly while attempting to say something and failing. The blonde was such an adorable and stuttering mess and Addison just couldn't help herself. It was just too fun to rile the blonde up and so, so, easy to do it too.

"You were pretty great too." She said with a wink and another grin.

"T-thanks." Meredith stammered, the pink on her cheeks spreading to her ears and neck. Addison couldn't help her smirk as Meredith took a step back. "Why do you always have to do that?" The blonde huffed.

"Do what, Grey?" She asked in feigned ignorance.

"You—" Meredith began but stopped flushed furiously the moment she took a step forward.

"You're so much fun to tease. You get all flustered and kinda cute. But I could stop if you wanted me to." Addison continued moving forward until the blonde's back hit the door. "Do you want me to?" She braced herself on the door with her hands on either side of Meredith essentially trapping her and leaned in close to the blonde's ear, "Satan does abide by the rules sometimes." She let out with a sultry voice and chuckled when she noticed Meredith's slight shudder.

She pulled back with a softer smile and toned down the intensity in her eyes, which seemed to snap the blonde out of it.

"You're impossible, you know that?" Meredith's voice was slightly shaky as she tore her baby blue eyes away from her.

Addison grinned and took a few steps back — it wasn't a no — with shrug, "and yet you lo—"

"Yeah. I guess. Whatever." Meredith waved her hands and half turned to open the door.

Addison ignored the flop her stomach did at the blonde's admission, "glad we see eye to eye."

Meredith let out a sigh, "let's go, Addison."

"After you." She grinned with a bow and was rewarded with a grin from the still slightly flushed blonde.

They were updating the chart after checking in with the patient when Addison found the miserable old bastard sneering at them. Just because she could she sent him the brightest and sweetest fake smile she could. If the doctor had been a cartoon there would've been smoke pouring out from his nostrils before he turned around.

"You really can't help yourself can you?" Meredith chuckled next to her.

"The fact that you need to be well behaved with other attendings doesn't mean I have to. Besides, I really don't like him, not that he's done himself any favors. You mess with me and this is what you get." Addison shrugged.

"The ruler of all that is evil, everyone." Meredith motioned at her.

"And don't you ever forget it." She smiled and bumped playfully into the grinning blonde. "So… how about we—"

Addison had been in the middle of inviting Meredith out to dinner — as a celebration of course — when another blonde she hadn't seen before pulled her back towards her.

"Death! There you are. I've been looking for you everywhere, babe." The stranger said and planted a kiss on Meredith's cheek while wrapping her arms around Meredith's middle.

Now if Addison had been a cartoon the smoke would've been pouring out of her ears and nose. Who the hell was this moron? And why was she kissing Meredith's cheek? Why the hell was she even touching her?

"Hey. How did it go?" Meredith smiled at the newcomer in a way that made Addison see red.

"Who are you?" Addison snapped and then took a deep breath as confused baby blue eyes peered at her.

"I'm Sadie Harris. Nice to meet you." The clingy blonde smiled smugly and all Addison wanted to do was grab every single finger wrapped around Meredith and crush them.

"Alright, calm down Addison. What the hell?" Addison thought to herself and then plastered a smile on her face. "Nice to meet you too, Ms. Harris. I'm Dr. Addison Montgomery."

"Oh the hot shot. Everyone talks about you, right babe?" Sadie grinned.

"Say babe one more time. I dare you." Addison felt her blood boil at the mere sound of the word and the fact that Meredith didn't seem bothered by it. However, blood boiling or not she kept her smile and cool calm and collected expression.

"Well, Dr. Grey, that's it for today." She coldly directed towards the still confused blonde. "I'll be going. Have the nurses page me if the need arises." She said and began to walk away.

She had just turned the corner when she heard running behind her but she could care less who it was so she continued.

"Addison! Hold on." Meredith shouted.

"In a hospital, Dr. Grey." She couldn't keep the bite out of her tone.

"Sorry. It's just, you ran. Well not ran. It's those damn long legs, which… amazing." Meredith said with half chuckle and had Addison not been so pissed she might've blushed and preened.

"What do you need?" She turned quickly to find Meredith mere inches away and a tiny gasp escaped her. She hadn't noticed the blonde had gotten so close.

"Are you ok?" Meredith tilted her head and gave her that soft smile that pretty much melted her every time.

"Fine."

"Hmm… I wanted to see if you'd like to go cel—"

"I have a date." Addison blurted out without thinking. "It's this very cute guy." She added.

She didn't know what took over her when she said that. She had no date whatsoever. There was that guy Naomi wanted to set her up with but there were no plans. She had made no plans whatsoever.

"A date?" Meredith muttered and for a second Addison saw something she'd never seen before in the blonde's gaze. Was she angry?

"Are you ok?" Addison asked bewildered.

"I am fine." Meredith accentuated each word. "Enjoy your date." The blonde smiled an actual fake smile.

"Thanks. You enjoy your babe ." Addison grinned viciously. She really couldn't help herself. "The hell is wrong with me?"

"Who?" Meredith frowned.

"Your b— never mind. Have them page me if anything. Bye, Dr. Grey." She said turning away.

"Bye Dr. Montgomery ." Meredith coldly said behind her and Addison couldn't help but wonder why it sorta hurt when she used her name like that.

"Whatever." She muttered to herself. "More importantly, how the hell do I get a date now? I can't just not have one. She'll know. So what do I do?" She asked herself and then the lightbulb went on in her head. "Naomi and her Mick or Rick… whatever."

"Are you ok Montgomery?"

"Jesus! Where the hell did you come from, Charlotte?" Addison asked startled.

"This is my hospital. You forget?" Charlotte snapped.

"Yeah, sorry. Anyway I'm on my way out. Have a nice evening." Addison managed a smile.

"See you around then." Charlotte shrugged before leaving her.

Addison pulled her phone and dialed Naomi's number. She needed a date and her friend was going to help her get one.

She was so angry. So very angry. Too angry to deal with Sadie, however, her friend and once girlfriend was just as clingy as usual. Meredith was trying hard to tame down her growing rage. A date? Addison was going on a date with some stupid moron that was supposedly cute. The thought of some guy making eyes or getting close to Addison sent her mind on a spin. If she could see him once and strangle him she'd feel better.

"Right? Yes… no what the hell Meredith? This is just some silly crush. This means nothing. You've no reason to follow Addison and kill some random moron. The flirting is just for fun. Remember? Yeah. It's all in good fun. All in good… who the hell am I kidding? I'm so jealous. Fuck!"

"Death? Death! Meredith!"

"Huh? What?" Meredith snapped back into the real world.

"You ok?" Sadie asked with a frown.

"Fine." Meredith muttered.

"Lying is bad." Sadie grinned.

"Then you're close to Satan." Meredith chuckled. "Ok now that's a lie." Sadie was nowhere near Satan. At least not her Satan. "Geez Meredith. She isn't yours, you idiot."

"Are you sure you're good, babe?" Sadie asked, concern written all over her face.

"Yes. Anyway, how was your surgery? Did you like my little hospital?" Meredith asked, quickly changing the topic.

"Good little hospital. Surgery went great. My attending is pretty awesome too." Sadie winked.

" My ?" Meredith eyed the blonde suspiciously. "Are you—"

"Best attending I've ever had." Sadie said in a tone Meredith clearly understood.

"Sadie, really? With your attending?" Meredith shook her head. Not like she had much room to judge.

Sadie smirked. "Ah come on. She's hot and knows things ."

"Oh god. Shut up." Meredith chuckled.

"Anyway, Allison and I are going out to celebrate. Wanna tag along? Bring your attending. She's hot enough." Sadie grinned wickedly.

"No." Meredith said coldly.

"Oh damn. What did I say?" Sadie frowned.

"Nothing. Sorry. I just want to head home." Meredith tried her best to calm the raging storm inside her.

"But—" Sadie tried.

"I'm tired, Sadie. You and your attending go out and celebrate. You don't need a third wheel." Meredith attempted a smile.

"We wouldn't mind sharing." Sadie wiggled her brows.

"As tempting as that sounds I'll still have to say no." Meredith chuckled.

"Come on. This is the last night I'll be here. We'll be going back to San Diego tomorrow." Sadie whined.

"Sorry. I'm just really tired. Maybe I come visit before I get back to Seattle?" Meredith lifted a brow and smiled.

"Oh fine. Party pooper." Sadie shrugged. "It was nice seeing you Death." The blonde smiled and hugged her.

"Nice seeing you too Die. Have fun." Meredith said as she hugged her friend back.

Sadie pulled away with a huge grin and a kiss on her cheek before walking towards a woman. Meredith waved at the blonde, who waved back and then turned back to the tall rather beautiful brunette. The other woman also waved back with a sweet smile. Meredith wondered how someone who seemed so sweet could deal with the mess Sadie was but she supposed just because she seemed sweet it didn't mean she was. Just like…

"Ok. Enough. No more thinking about her."

"Who are you talking to, Grey?" Charlotte's voice made her jump. "Calm down. What is it with all you people?" She snapped.

"Sorry. And uh I was only talking to myself." Meredith smiled nervously.

Charlotte frowned, "you're a strange one, aren't you?"

"I'd have to agree." Meredith attempted.

This woman made her more nervous than Bailey. She supposed it was because she'd barely been here a few months.

"Aren't you off?" Charlotte said, looking at the watch on her wrist.

"Right, yes. I was on my way."

"Then stop dawdling in the middle of the hall."

"Have a nice evening." Meredith said before scurrying away a grunt was the only reply from the chief of staff.

It was raining when she walked out of the hospital because why not rain all over her when she had no umbrella? Her umbrella was still by the stairs at her house just where Addison had found it over a week ago. Addison who was out on a date. Meredith couldn't help her grin at the thought of a rainy date. The redhead was probably miserable and that was great. Best way to ruin a date…

"Stop." Meredith said to herself, leaning her forehead on the steering wheel.

She took a deep breath and turned on the radio, her phone dinged with a text from her person and she smiled.

Incoming Text Message

Call me when you get home. I Need you.

Outgoing Text Message

You need me? Venting session or…

Incoming Text Message

Yes, now shut up *-*

Meredith chuckled at the last message and put her phone down before pulling out of the parking spot and making her way home.

It took her well over an hour instead of the usual 30 minutes to get home because people didn't know how to drive in the rain. She opened the door to the house with her phone tucked between her shoulder and her ear. Cristina had sent about 10 texts while she drove.

"Hello?"

"What took you so long?" Cristina's voice rang through the receiver.

"People are idiots, that's what took so long. It's not even that much rain either." She huffed while she shut the door. "Also what the hell is wrong? Be patient."

"I need to tell you something." Cristina said with some urgency.

"What? I really want to shower and drown myself in tequila for a bit." Meredith trudged up the stairs.

"Ok… Callie is with Hahn and your sister and McSteamy are making eyes at each other and Alex's bay patient is pregnant again and staying at your place." Cristina said quickly.

"Wait what?!"

"I know…"

Cristina was droning on about how Callie and Hahn were in a relationship now and what not but Meredith wasn't really paying attention as she made her way to the open window. Of course she'd forgotten to close it yet again, which had the curtain soaked through once more. Her attention got snagged on the dark house next door.

She glanced over noticing all lights were off and wondered if Addison had finally put her spare key under the flower pot. She most likely hadn't, she could be careless like that sometimes. She looked at the terrace and noticed that at least she hadn't left anything out. Then she started thinking about the stupid date… and back to raging she went.

"Mer. Meredith! Are you even listening to me?" Cristina shouted through the phone and Meredith had half a mind to end the call.

"Of course I'm listening. You might've blown my eardrum just now." She grumbled.

"What's the last thing I said?" Cristina asked and Meredith could picture her bored expression.

"'Are you even listening to me?'" Meredith quoted.

"You're so funny." Cristina huffed. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing." Too quickly. She had said that too quickly.

"You forget who I am, Meredith Grey."

"You are my very loud and annoying person. See? I know."

"Stop playing dumb. What is it?" Cristina wasn't taking crap from her.

"It's fine."

"Like hell it is. This sounds like a person shaped something, not a fine shaped thing. Talk." Cristina insisted.

"It's… stupid. Don't worry about it." Meredith tried not to sound as shitty as she felt.

"So Addison-shaped. I see… talk, you idiot."

"Why would you—"

"I know you. Now talk or so help me Meredith I'm gonna give Derek and your sister your new address." Cristina threatened.

"Fine." Meredith huffed. "She's going on a date."

"Ok… oh ." Cristina said and chuckled.

"What's that mean?" Meredith snapped.

"You're jealous. This is more than a crush, Mer. I told you." Cristina sang out and chuckled some more.

"I know already so you can shut up about it."

"Is it serious? Guy or girl? Cute or hot? Have you seen them yet?" Cristina barreled on with questions.

"I don't know. Guy. I don't know or want to know. And no. Of course not." Meredith replied bitterly.

"Maybe she's just trying to scratch the itch." Cristina said but soon added, "I probably shouldn't have said that. Right?"

"She has fingers! Pretty damn good fingers. There's also a million other ways besides going on a date with some moron!"

"Yeah I shouldn't have."

"Whatever, if she wants to scratch the itch with some moron she can go right ahead. I don't care." Meredith fumed.

"Yes you do." Cristina deadpanned.

"Would you shut up?" Meredith snapped. "If you have nothing better to say than shut it."

"They do say the truth hurts."

"Cristina…"

"Fine. So what're you up to?" Cristina changed the topic quickly.

"A bath, tequila, food, horror movie." Meredith said as she finally walked away from the window after sticking out her tongue at the dark house. "The last three might be all at once."

"Hmm. Are you off tomorrow?"

"Yes."

"Good. Go drown your sorrows."

"What sorrows? I've no sorrows."

"Right. No Addison-shaped sorrows at all."

"I hate you." She grumbled.

"I know. Me too." Cristina chuckled. "I'm off tomorrow too so I guess I can gossip then 'cause you're too distracted right now."

"Ok. Bye. Talk tomorrow." Meredith sighed. "Sorry."

"It's fine. Bye." Cristina held the word until she clicked the line off.

"Idiot." Meredith mumbled to herself and chuckled a bit until she remembered Addison and her date. "God I'm just so angry! Why am I this complicated? It's also her stupid fault — stupid, smartass, evil, kind, and beautiful idiot. Dammit, I have a problem…" She said looking at her reflection on the mirror, "and it's called Addison Adrienne Forbes Montgomery."

Rolling her eyes she stepped away from the mirror. Quickly she ordered her dinner before getting undressed and underneath the running water. It had definitely been quite a day without the greatest ending but she was Meredith Grey, when was it ever great?

Maybe watching The Exorcist at night while it rained and thundered without having enough tequila to be drunk wasn't the greatest idea. She'd probably have to watch some cartoon or something before attempting to sleep. Also why had she not left the kitchen light on?

She had eaten two slices of her large pepperoni pizza, from that place Bennett's daughter, Maya, had recommended last time. It was great pizza but she was too scared to reach out to the box. Addison's date almost forgotten now after one too many jump scares. She hadn't dared look at the sliding door's glass because she was certain she'd see an imaginary face and then that would be the end of her.

Another shadow popped on her screen and she completely turned away. Lighting illuminated the dark night and she thought she saw someone in her terrace but nope… she was not going to look that way. Not at all. Not in a million years.

She heard the door slide and screamed so loudly her throat hurt a bit. The stranger yelped at the sound.

"For fucks sake Meredith, calm down!"

"Addison?" Meredith was shaking so badly her teeth almost clattered.

"That's me." Addison waved with a small smile, her red hair a bit wet just as her clothes.

"Yeah." Meredith breathed out and jumped at the yelling on the tv.

"The Exorcist? I like this one." Addison's gaze went to the screen then back to her.

"There's pizza." Meredith muttered.

"Pepperoni?" Addison grinned.

"Pepperoni." Meredith nodded and despite the date crap and everything she smiled back at the redhead.

Addison made her way to the couch and sat next to her, "hi."

"Hi."

Oooo… hello everyone. We are back. I did need that small break I do apologize for taking so long. Anyway what'd y'all think about our two idiots? I think they're idiots and that's that.
