It had been one year since Qrow and Jaune had left, on their own they trained. Qrow had at first been hesitant, but the boy had been insistent. A nagging fear in the back of his head reminded him of Raven's words "make him strong or I will take him and do it myself" He would never force Jaune farther than he knew his son could handle, but he would make sure Raven would never be able to take him.

Qrow swung his practice spear at Jaune, the wooden blade missing his son's face by millimeters. Jaune had ducked back, to avoid the swipe, but qrow followed through with the shaft of the practice weapon aiming for the chest, Jaune brought his own weapon up. Planning the shaft in the ground he steadied himself while the top half of the spear stopped his dad's follow up attack. Pushing himself back up he pushed his spear forward launching the blade at Qrow's face. Taking one hand of his weapon the older man batted the tip away from his face with the back of his hand. In that same motion he brought the blade of his spear back around right into Jaune's ribbs. With a "Oof" Jaune stumbled back taking a hand off his weapon to clutch to his side, taking advantage of his son's distraction Qrow flicked his spear hitting Jaune's spear hand forcing the boy to let go of the weapon before swapping out his feat and leveling his blade at Jaune's throat.

"Give up?" Qrow asks his seven year old with a smile. The boy just groans in mild pain. After a moment Qrow's expression softens and he walks over to the small boy. "You okay runt? I told you to be aware of my weapon, not just yours. We'll work more on that. For now we'll just find a river to clean up in and have supper." he bends down to pick up his boy only to be caught off guard when with lightning movement Jaune's spear is swinging at his face. Having the reflexes of a huntsman is what saves him from a mouth full of slivers. He ducks back, almost losing balance, Jaune is up in a flash dropping his spear and tackling his father, grabbing him just under his knee while keeping up his momentum.

Typically this would drop his opponent on their letting him pummel them from above. Qrow instead pushed with Jaune, this tripped up the boy as he fell forward, Qrow hit the ground and using his built up momentum rolled back, he then kicked out launching Jaune behind him before completing his roll and getting to his feet again.

This time Jaune really is down for the count, he just lays panting on the ground covered in sweat.

"Almost.. Got… you," Jaune says through his gasps of air. a thousand watt smile spread across his face. It had been a lot of effort for the seven year old to try and keep up with his huntsman father.

Qrow lets out a bark of laughter and lifts his son on his back

"Yeah runt, I'm proud." He walked over and picked up their practice spears before walking back to their current camp.

Jaune had said he wanted to use a scythe like Qrow. Of course the father was flattered his boy wanted to be a scythe wielder like him. He started Jaune where he started, with a spear. It was better to start with something basic like that, so Jaune could get a sense of having a longer weapon. He was also being trained with a sword. Qrow couldn't be more proud of his brat. He was a natural studant. Even Raven at an older age than him couldn't pick up stuff as fast as Jaune. Qrow quickly learned that Jaune learned a lot better at being shown things than being told about them, now since he had found their groove it was obvious, Jaune Arc was a prodigy.

Of course Qrow would never push Jaune further than he thought the boy could handle. When they trained they frequently took breaks to keep spirits up, and Jaune's focus. He was glad they took this trip, no ordinary huntsman prep school would have given his boy what he needed to succeed. Nor would he have been able to stand teaching other brats than just his own. He respected Summer for that. He heard from her earlier that year, she had accepted a position at Signal academy.

She would do well there, of course she wasn't thrilled about ending her career as an active huntress, but since she heard about the ambush that was intended for her, she decided it would be more important to ensure her safety for the sake of her children. She couldn't stand the thought of not being around for her girls. Qrow could understand that feeling, when Jaune was smaller he felt fear every time he went out on a hunt. The thought of your child growing up without you there, was crushing.

He set the tired boy by the fire pit and went to his pack to get two cans of dinner. He turned back around and found Jaune getting the fire ready. He smiled, that boy always did his best to be a help.

"You got it all set up?" he asked

"Yep." he said looking up with a smile.

"Good boy," he says ruffling Jaune's hair.

They cook and eat dinner together, followed by finding the nearest river and cleaning themselves from the day's hard training. Before they sleep they work on Jaune's traditional education. Math, science, history, ect. Qrow hated to admit he wasn't any good at this kind of stuff, but he did his best. Lucky for him Jaune worked hard and usually with Qrow's help could figure things out for himself. After that they picked up camp, set some perimeter alerts and crawled into their bed rolls.

Just before Qrow nodded off he heard Jaune speak

"Dad?" He asked

"Yeah?"

"Last time you talked to Mom I heard you say something about a Raven lady. Who is that?"

Qrow went still, he had heard from summer a few days ago the Branwin tribe made a big hit on a Mistral military outpost. They killed everyone and took all the supplies. He hadn't told Jaune about his aunt yet. And was hoping he could have waited a few more years to explain what a wretched woman she was.

"She… is my sister. Your aunt."

"Really?" He says sitting up looking excited "my aunt?"

"Yeah… but she and I. Aren't exactly on speaking terms right now."

"Well, will I ever get to meet her?"

"... I don't think so, buddy. Raven is… she is… you see we grew up in… *sigh*. Listen kid. Remember when we came across that destroyed village a while back."

"The one we hurried though since said it's haunted by a strong Grimm?"

"Yeah that place… that happened because bad people came and attacked it and killed a lot of people. That lured the big Grimm there and it destroyed what the bandits left."

"That's horrible!" Jaune yelled

"Jaune. Your aunt is like those bandits. She hurts people. She doesn't care about anything except herself."

"..."

"She is not a good person and I hope you never meet her. All she could give you is pain." Qrow says sitting up and pulling his son to him. "If you ever see a tall woman with long black hair, red armor, and a white mask with red eyes. You run from her Jaune. Do you understand?"

"Yes"

"Do you? She is dangerous Jaune, even for me. So until you're strong enough to hold your own all I want you to do is run."

"Yes dad." Jaune says with a nod.

"Good boy," he says ruffling his son's blond shaggy hair making him smile. "Go to sleep, we'll try to reach the next town by lunch tomorrow."

Jaune nodded and laid back down. And soon the night over takes Qrow and he sleeps. He never noticed his boy rise and leave the tent quietly. Jaune stood out by the still lightly smoldering fire and waited. He looked to the sky and the moon stood at its highest for the night. That's when the portal opened and his second teacher stepped out. the tall woman with long black hair, blood colored amor, bone white mask and pricing crimson eyes. The boy's own Crimson eyes stared back. The woman who told him a few months ago his mother had sent her to train Jaune and make him strong. But it must stay a secret to surprise his father with.

Silently Stepping to the side Jaune walked through the portal and the bandit Queen followed.

Once back at camp the boy spoke,

"Why didn't you say you were my aunt?" He asks

"It wasn't important. Your training was."

"But we're family."

"Doesn't matter. I accepted that you're my nephew, but that doesn't mean we're family. You haven't earned that right yet."

"Dad says you hurt people. Is… is that true?"

"Does it matter, they were weak. If you don't have the power to defend your belongings they don't belong to you."

"... Why… How could you! You lied to me! You told me my mom asked to train me! You said it would be a surprise for dad that I was getting stronger!"

Raven slapped him

"Don't raise your voice to me until you have the backbone to support it."

"I see why dad hates you."

"Listen to me boy," Raven says, grabbing his face.

"Your father is a weak coward who ran away from his real family to play hero. He isn't strong, he's just pretending to be!"

"You're lying!"

"Why would I? I've been training you so you don't become like him. You have the chance to be strong. Just accept it."

"No! I don't want to be trained by you!"

"... Didn't I just say your father is weak?"

"You're lying!"

"Nephew, your father is weak. Too weak to protect you, too weak to even protect himself. There are real monsters in this world. Things so old and powerful your dad couldn't stop them even at his strongest. Far stronger men have tried and failed. He's not strong like me. Nothing can kill the darkness, but I can at least ensure my tribe's survival till I've passed. Your dad. Will just run into danger thinking he's strong only to find out he's not. And I won't protect him since he refuses to listen to me… but wouldn't you like to be strong? Strong enough to save him? To protect him like I protect the tribe? Be strong enough to let him live into old age? Or would you rather stay weak and helplessly watch as your dear old dad dies because you're too weak to protect him?"

Jaune was slammed. He'd never know his father was in danger… never known he'd one day have to protect him. To him dad was invincible, no grimm or bandit had ever even held a candle to him, if what his aunt told him was true, was he holding his dad back? Not only did he have to fight but he also had to protect him… because like Raven said… he was too weak to protect himself. If his dad couldn't fight as well due to protecting him. He could die.

"I can make you a strong Nephew. Strong enough to ensure your father's survival. Keep training with me as we have been, learn the ways of the sword from me and the art of the scythe from your dad, and you will be one of the most powerful warriors the world will ever know. Powerful enough to protect all the people you love. Your dad, sisters, mother, you might even become stronger than me."

"I… I'll keep training with you." He mutters "only to protect dad." With that Raven smiles.

"Smart choice my dear nephew."

From that day Jaune had found a new determination. His goal of strength. He trained hard with his dad every day. And at night his aunt brutalized swordplay into him.

Qrow couldn't believe his son's progress with the scythe, it was more like programming a machine than teaching a child. But now Jaune seemed tired all the time. It wasn't natural. He planned to head to a city soon to have his boy looked at. As amazing as his progress was, he would stop in a heartbeat if he found out this training would hurt Jaune in any way. But for now he would just try his best to be a good dad and responsibly train him taking plenty of breaks and never pushing Jaune too hard. Today was a day of total rest. No training at all.

They were close to a small village and today was Jaune's 8 birthday. So Qrow had planned to fly to the closest village and get a cake for a surprise. He did a full radius of the campsite and found the woods Grimm free. Only going to be gone in a few minutes he flew quickly and found a small bakery.

Getting the cake he stepped out again coming face to face with a familiar and unappreciated sibling of his.

"Raven," He growled his hand unconsciously moving towards Harbringer.

"Qrow." she said a mocking smirk on her face, "Already so aggressive? Haven't you missed me?"

"If I remember correctly the last time I saw you, you threatened to kidnap my son." he hisses.

"Oh, little brother," she says smiling "That was no threat, it was a promise. If I recall I told you if you trained him well I would have no need to take him… but it seems you didn't understand me. You don't push him far enough, you lack the drive to unlock his full potential. In short you're holding him back. It seems now it's my turn to try to correct your mistakes."

"YOU BITCH!" he roars grabbing her collar "I TOLD YOU TO STAY AWAY FROM HIM! I'D KILL YOU BEFORE YOU COULD TOUCH HIM! I DON'T CARE IF YOU ARE MY SISTER ! I DON'T CARE IF YOUR YANG'S REAL MOTHER IF YOU TRY I'LL KILL YOU WHERE YOU STAND!"

At this point all civilians in the vicinity had noticed the growing tension and had fled. Raven and Qrow stood alone in the street, people hiding away in buildings watching. Raven snorted with a smirk

"Really you kill me?"

In a flash her hand was in his face forcing it back against a concrete wall.

Aura was great for protecting the body, but head trauma was still a major weakness in hunters. The human brain could still be shifted in the skull damaging a warrior without ever needing to break the aura. It was also a great tactic to disorientate the opponent at the start of a fight. Suffice to say Qrow was dazed from the blow and could only stagger as a powerful punch was sent into his ribcage. He was bent over her fist as the air left his body. Raven always was a dirty fighter. Luckily so was he. While bent he quickly regained some sense and grabbed his sister's leg behind her knee. Pulling up with great force, he forced her off balance before ramming his head into her stomach.

Throwing all his weight behind him he drove her into the hard ground. She hit with a grunt bringing her other knee into his arm forcing him to let go. That gave her enough time to kick him several feet off and away from her. She stood hair disheveled and clothes dirty, a deadly glare crossed her face as she drew Omen with a red blade. Qrow stood as well a murderous look in his eyes as Harbringer unfolded into a scythe. Both could tell this fight was only going to end in blood. The last strands of their sibling bond had been snapped and they stood as two hunters. No. two warriors.

They charged in both weapons swung in an unforgiving arc. The resulting impact could be felt through the air. Only locked together for a moment both weapons were again moving, being swung in a deadly dance. No movements were waisted as Raven's sword was thrust and Qrow's scythe was swung.

This was how real hunters fought, the youngsters always fought too flashy and flamboyantly. Real combat was about causing as much damage as you could to your opponent while also defending as best as possible. No movement could be wasted or prolonged, not when your opponent had the ability to capitalize on your mistakes and kill you if you messed up.

Qrow brought Harbringer down, sinking it into the ground, pinning Omen to the ground while launching forward with a devastating punch to the face. Raven moved with the punch to lessen the damage taken, she did a backflip planting her foot into Qrow's chest and kicking, it also gave her the momentum to pull Omen from under Harbringer. Qrow staggered back pulling up his weapon as Raven landed and launched forward her blade aiming for his chest. He caught it on the flat of his scythe before pushing the blade forward to the side, aiming to use the back of the blade to slice her across her chest he pushed. Raven simply pressed a button on her hilt letting the blade fall from the sword making Qrow overreach while she drew another blade. Using the momentum of his overreach Qrow spun attempting to smash the butt of his shaft into her gut. She jumped back while slashing out with her long blade.

He ducked and kept spinning, swinging the blade towards her. She jumped bouncing off the blade, while sailing over him she lashed out, scoring 3 hits on his shoulder and back flaring his aura. Her move although left her at a disadvantage for precious few seconds, unable to properly dodge she felt the shotgun assisted swing of the blade being smashed into her gut. She was sent flying, a portal opened and she turned the momentum into an advantage. A second portal opened behind Qrow barely giving him time to defend as Raven crashed into him out of the portal. He slid back due to the force, a counter swing from him missed her as she jumped back. She swung her sword into another new portal, he felt the blade connect with his back. He could only growel as he retracted his scythe into a sword for better reaction time, he was one of the only people this technique she had would work on. Damn his semblance. With the need of a bond for her portals to work this strategy could never work on a non-bonded opponent. She had probably only developed something like this with him, Tai, or summer in mind. And he knew no he was at a major disadvantage. But as a father fighting for his son, she would have to kill him before she got to Jaune.

She rushed in and out attacking him then jumping away and stabbing from a portal. Qrow reacted as quickly as he could, defending from almost all the hits, but the portals were getting closer to him, and with the reduced distance, much harder to dodge or counter. After another portal slash she launched towards him again and he swung for her throat. To his horror a portal opened in front of her and his own blade nearly decapitated him. He had enough time to stop it. But his distraction cost him as he felt his aura finally shatter and a blade slide though the muscles in his leg.

With a yell of agony he fell to the ground, her blade still lodged in him as she let it detach from the tsuka. He brought the blade up in gun form and shot at Raven who simply dodged all his shots. Imobile he had no other options and simply shot till he was out of ammo. Forcing himself to stand back up he leveled his weapon. Aura gave hunters strength to wield the weapons they had with as much officiancey as they had. It wasn't that without it a hunter couldn't lift their own weapon, but it would unfortunately feel heavier and be harder to maneuver. Not only did aura breaking leave hunters without protection, it also stripped them of part of their fighting style. non -the-less he stood in a guarded position.

"How pathetic." Raven said a scowl on her face. Do you really think a weakling like you could ever teach your son to be strong?"

"Weakling!?" he spat, "do you call the shitty portal trick strength?"

"No, I call it mercy." she said coolly, walking towards him, "If I had been serius do you think I wouldn't have killed you."

"AGHH!" he shouts stabbing at her desperately once more. The sword slipped into a portal, before he could pull it back out the portal shut, it sheared the weapon in half. The end of Harbringer falling to the ground a few feet from him.

"Stop now brother. Accept this. I shall take my nephew. And he shall be the strongest Branwen to ever lead or clan. Even our father has taken interest in him." she says smiling.

A cold chill flowed through Qrow's blood and a final word ran through his head, 'Lamagier.'

All rationality left him as desperation took over and he launched at Raven, to her surprise she didn't react in time. Landing on her back her arms were pinned under his knees as his full weight was pressed onto his arm, an arm currently crushing her windpipe. A murderous look in his eyes Qrow held his thrashing sibling down attempting to force the life from her eyes.

Raven trashed and thrashed, but even with Aura his position made everything hard, the body never worked as well as it should deprived of air. Digging her heels into the ground all she could do was slowly push them along the ground. If she hadn't been so confident he wouldn't get back up he would never have caught her off guard.

Raven was starting to lose consciousness, and she desperately struggled against his arm and in a moment of luck his arm shifted just so that she could tilt her head and she struck. Her teeth sank deep into her brother's arm, warm blood bubbled into her mouth and Qrow yelled in pain. He reeled back giving her the moment to capitalize. His movement allowed her to let go of his arm and smash her forehead into his face.

He stumbled off her and before he could get back up her sword slashed diagonally across his face. From his cheek just missing his eye cutting though his eyebrow, the sticky red substance pouring from the new wound blinded him in his left eye.

"Enough is enough brother. Your weakness is a disgrace to our tribe. Be grateful at least your son won't be." with that she turned and stepped through a portal.

Qrow barely stood again. He hobbled out of the town. Broken weapon in hand and blood loss beginning to affect him, he trudged forward, birthday cake wishing his 8 year old a happy birthday, smeared on the ground behind him forgotten. Villagers not knowing what to do followed him cautiously knowing no one in that condition should be going into the wilderness alone.

When Qrow and his small following arrived at his camp. He desperately called out

"JAUNE! JAUNE!" he cried, "PLEASE!!!!!!!!" he wailed falling to the ground, no longer able to walk, the blade still lodged in his leg taking its toll. He dragged himself to their tent finding it ripped open. Their belonging in disarray. Then the line of damage suddenly stopped as if whatever had been causing a struggle hit an invisible wall… or a portal.

"DAMN YOU!!!! DAMN YOU TO HELL!!!! GIVE BACK MY SON!!!!"

Desperation and anger turned to anguish as he fully collapsed and began to sob. She hadn't stolen his son, she had stolen his meaning for life. His baby boy… his last connection to Lily.

The village members nervously looked at each other before with a nod of agreement, some slowly spread out looking for the child. The others went to the grieving father as he sobbed, they brought him back to their village and treated him best as they could. Even when he passed out from blood loss they heard him mumble as tears slowly streamed from his eyes "Jaune… Jaune."

"Welcome to your new home." Raven said, tossing the boy before her. Jaune turned and rushed at her anger swelling in the boy as he brought out a hidden knife they used sometime for dinner attempting to stab the horrible woman he called aunt. She simply caught his wrist and painfully twisted till he let go, then further till a pop was heard and Jaune screamed. "None of that, " she said, ignoring his screams of agony.

"Hmph, I thought you said the brat was strong" a gruff voice said

"I said he has the potential to be. He still needs to toughen up." She said with an eye roll "Jaune" she said addressing the whimpering boy cradling his dislocated wrist. "This is your new scythe teacher. Oh and also your Grandfather, Lamagier Branwen '' she said the older man simply grunted, grabbing Jaune's wrist, and with a jerking motion and another scream Jaune's journey through hell started.

A/N: yeah this story will get a little dark. Jaune has been kidnapped by Raven, and his grandfather who I have named Lamagier (big scary bird, I thought it was fitting) Qrow will no doubt desperately search for him, but until he is able to find him Jaune will be brutally taught by his aunt and grandfather to be the next tribe chief. But think about what will happen now. Summer is alive and took the job Qrow had initially accepted at signal. How will this affect other characters? Think about it lol, cause I'm not gonna just tell you.

Anyways I always thought about what it could look like if Raven fought someone she was bonded to. And I'm not sure if there are any rules against her doing something like what I had her do. Idk if it makes sense to you but I saw it as an idea.

Sorry if this feels a bit rushed, but Jaune and Qrow's relationship will be explored later but I didn't want to just spend a full chapter having Qrow and Jaune do mundane things, that would be boring. Not just for you guys but for me to write. One again their relationship will be explored more as the story requires as memories of each other will help them move forward. Yep yep… that's about all I have to say for now. Idk when I'll update this again life is hella busy right now. Bye bye for my ma darlin readers see ya next time.
