Set one month before Chicago PD starts.

Chapter 1: A new partner

Erin Lindsay arrives at the district and heads for intelligence. It was a new unit and she was very happy to be a part of it. She has heard comments from other officers saying that she slept with her boss, that she must accept all of his corruption and for the few who know that Hank Voight is like a father to her, even without knowing the full story they say it was because of privilege. . It's hell to hear these things, but she keeps her mouth shut, even though it's not quite the way she prefers to react to certain situations.

It's only 7:45 in the morning when Erin greets Platt and walks upstairs to the Bullpen. Her having her hand scanned was like a power and she loved it, only the authorized could enter, formerly if she went up to this room it would be through the back, handcuffed and to be interrogated, but her boss wasn't just her boss, he changed your life. When she reaches the top of the stairs she realizes that only Antonio is there, but since everyone has to be at work by 8:00am she imagines the rest of the team will arrive soon. There are not many people, the intelligence has only 5 members, she who partners with detective Alvin Olinsky and detective Julie Willhite, partner of Antônio. So Voight is left alone, but they are looking for more members.

"Hey!" she says when she sees Antonio and walks towards the table noticing that Voight's door is closed. "Who's there?" She asks Antônio nodding his head towards Voight's office

"Hey..." Antonio replied as she approached her table that was next to his. "A new member of intelligence." he responds by looking at the paperwork on her desk. When Erin goes to ask about this new team member Julie goes upstairs and greets them both.

"Good Morning!" she says taking off her navy blue jacket and going to her desk, which in turn is in front of Antonio's. Antônio says good morning and continues going through the paperwork, Diego had the flu, so he left earlier the day before to take care of his son and left the paperwork for today.

"Good morning…" replies Erin, who is leaning against her desk and looking at Dawson. "Did you know we're going to have a new partner?" She asks Julie, directing her gaze to the woman.

"Really? Who?" She asks curiously sitting in her chair, but doesn't move anything, just pay attention to the conversation with Lindsay.

"Tony was going to answer me before you arrived." Erin smiles and looks at him for an answer.

"No I wouldn't." Antonio looks at her smiling back.

"Oh, come on Antonio, tell me. Do you know him?" Erin asks insisting, this time getting up and moving closer.

"I know him and he..." Antonio is persuaded to speak, but is interrupted by Voight who opens the door to his office and leaves with the mysterious man.

"Morning" Intelligence Sgt. Hank Voight says. "Well I want you guys to meet Jay Halstead, he's joining our unit..." He says and Jay gives everyone a quick smile. "Well, we're going to reorganize the partnerships from now on, but I'll wait for Olinsky to arrive so we can..."

"I'm already here." Al responds by stepping out from behind his desk, sliding into his chair. The new staff member smirks when Al responds, Lindsay does the same. This is so typical of Alvin.

"Great, since everyone's here, let's go partnerships. Dawson and Willhite, I still want you together. Lindsay, I want you working and showing the kid Halstead how things work in this unit." He says and gets a nod from Lindsay. "Halstead, you can have the table facing Alvin or this one." He points to the vacant table in front of him.

Jay was very professional in his work but he couldn't help but notice how beautiful his new partner was. So, between facing every day, the old man in front of him and the most beautiful woman he'll ever see, no offense to Olinsky, he'd have the empty table in front of him.

"Dawson" Voight calls him and goes back to his office. As he walks towards Voight's room, Antonio taps Jay on the shoulder, smiles and welcomes him, then Julie appears to greet him. "Welcome, detective" and walked back to his desk, not saying much. He looked at Erin who was also coming to welcome him.

"I hope that pretty face knows how to work, I don't like teaching children how to do grown-up work." He'd be startled by what she said if he didn't notice the teasing tone in her voice. "I'm Erin Lindsay." He takes her hand.

"I think you won't have a problem with that." He squeezes her hand. "So, you mean I'm a pretty face? You know, I don't usually get attacked that fast and not even on the first day." He teases, his hands dropping, something they both realized they didn't want to happen.

"Would you like." She scoffed trying to keep him from noticing her blushing, but she couldn't, but luckily for her he didn't comment. Erin is professional, and nothing against Al, but she wasn't too bad a hot partner like that. Those strong muscles would surely have saved her. Don't go there Lindsay. She tells herself. Getting out of her thoughts she asked.

"So, detective, what brought you the intelligence?"

"Antonio gave me a ride." He teases and she rolls her eyes smiling.

"He looks like a good detective Antonio, but know I'm still watching him." says Voight sitting at his desk and letting his detective know what he said to the younger man during the hiring.

"He is," said Antonio, between the door and the sergeant's desk. "Don't worry, I'm watching him too, I..." Before Antonio continued, Voight's cell phone rings, interrupting their conversation. Dawson doesn't hear the conversation, but he knows exactly what it is when Voight hangs up and gets up.

"We have a case." He informs the unit and everyone leaves. Walking down the stairs, Erin got into the car beside the driver. About that Jay would resolve later. He likes to drive and knows that this will be well resolved, he and his old partner took turns driving.

"I was undercover at a bar, there was a landlord who was threatening the owners of the place. We needed someone undercover to get concrete evidence and I ended up being shot. Antonio and I met at narcotics and told me the sergeant was looking for new members." He says looking out the window. Erin didn't understand at first and then remembered that it was the answer to her question asked while at the police station.

"One shot, huh?" Erin glanced quickly at him and then back to the road. "Where? Was it your first?" Erin asked curiously. "I hope those arms can still be able to fight, I don't want to get killed the first day because of you." She scoffs.

Jay laughed at how curious and easygoing she was, from the moment he talked to her he knew they would be a good match. "Well, detective..." He says wryly and smiles. "I got shot in the shoulder. It's not my first time getting shot, but I don't really have any hobby of being shot, I don't know if you know it hurts so fucking much, I don't plan on getting many more. Plus those strong, muscular arms. .." He makes a playful muck, it sends shivers down Erin's spine, he was strong. "They will be able to defend you. No need to be afraid." He smiles at her.

"I don't know where you feel so convinced." She teases. "Where did you work before, I mean… narcotics right?" She looks at him and he nods. "And then…narcotics every year after academy or did you graduate now?" She looks down the road, not noticing that the smile on his face is gone.

"Hmm..." He hesitated before answering, he wasn't a big fan of talking about his past, especially in the army, but decided to say it anyway. "I was from Rangers, before I joined the police." He counts.

"Did you serve?" Erin looked at him even more curiously and that's when she realized he wasn't really in the mood to talk about it and was embarrassed for being so inquisitive. An uncomfortable silence hung in the air before Jay tried to break the mood.

"I think you ask too many questions and you haven't answered any." He looked shyly smiling at her not knowing how she would react to him not responding. Well, she saw his face, that was almost an answer, right?

"Well you didn't make me any" She replied smiling back at him and that's when he was grateful for her. People always wanted to insist on subjects he didn't want to share and when she looked at him with a smile, it seemed like she knew it was what he wanted, what he needed.

"Okay, fair." He replied, but before he could ask a question they arrived at the scene of the crime.

"Okay, I want Julie and Antonio in the back, me, Olinsky, Lindsay and Halstead are going in, we're not going to let them get away, I want everyone taken to the district and this house locked up without any further risk to the kids." Voight said as they got ready and knocked on the door. They got a call that a house was being used as a drug point, they were dealing it to young people at a nearby school. No answer. Voight looked at Olinsky who banged a bat on the door and yelled "Chicago PD" as they entered.

Clean, clean, they screamed as they searched the house.

Erin and Jay were coming up the steps, she in the front and he covering her back. On the second floor she was taken by surprise by a guy pointing his gun in her direction. Her new partner Halstead was right behind her and pointed the gun in the dealer's direction.

"Drop the gun or I swear I'll shoot!" He threatens and this makes the man back off, slowly with one hand raised he puts the gun on the ground and Erin points hers at the man as he bends down and picks up the suspect's gun. She was aiming for the man, but she still needed Halstead's cover in case he came up with something cute. Quickly the new intelligence member approaches the man and handcuffs him.

Damn, he's a really good partner, Erin thought as she saw him coming down with the man in handcuffs and handing it to the rangers. Okay that what he did was nothing a partner shouldn't do, but cadets or newly graduated police didn't know how to deal with the emotion of the first day, besides, it was the first day in intelligence, he could have been nervous, but he didn't even hesitate, however, she remembered that he was in the army, his training and his defense should be even more intense than on national territory. He had a sense of humor, good looks and she found that he is not just unprepared, so she can trust him with her life.

Do you know when you like something a lot or yearn for it to happen and become real? Well... in those moments these days come and go faster than you would like, it goes by so quickly that you don't even notice the time pass. When they returned to the district they arrested all the miscreants. The drugs were collected and sent to the police and Jay Halstead's first day was like that, a day with a few arrests, having to show he's not kidding at work. He knows what he does and how to do it. After the arrest they went to the reports and sooner than expected they were released.

"Molly's?" Antonio asked while he was packing his things, he was happy for a quiet day and leaving early was something he would appreciate. Erin and Julie nodded and looked at Jay, the only one who didn't respond.

"Not today dude, maybe next time." Jay said getting up from the table and grabbing his coat.

"What? On your first day? Come on…I need to buy your drink for saving my life." Erin smiles.

"You know, I think I know how to do grown-up work." He says recalling her first words earlier.

"Is that a yes?" She ignores the comment with a smile. "It's a bar we used to go to, called Molly's."

"I know…" Jay looked at Erin. "I have a place to be, but I'll charge you for that beer." He bumps his shoulder against hers.

"This offer is only for one night and this is the night. You lost." She says jokingly as he starts walking to leave. She knew there was more to Jay Halstead, a lot more and she wanted to know, she was going to let time say what needed to be said, but Antonio could expedite at least part of it. She looks at him curiously.

"That's where he worked undercover," Antônio replied, that was all he would say to her, as it was none of his business.

"Okay, but there's something else right?" Erin said knowing yes.

"Certainly." said Julie as they descended the stairs.

"There is..." Antonio replied. "But that's enough that you two will know." He said getting into the car. "Meet you guys at Molly's."

A/N: This was the first story I've written, I started in July 2020 and ended in the same month. I always wanted to see more Linstead in the show and then this story came to mind, in the other app it was with her that I was inspired to continue writing. It is already finished, but I decided to review and improve it. It has a total of 60 chapters and I intend to leave it that way, but I wanted to bring it here for you. I can't promise you frequent updates due to my personal life, but I hope you like it.

If you can, I'd love it if you could review it so I'll know you still want to read this story around here.
