Chapter 11
*Sorry this chapter is a bit shorter! I started college again and finally found some free time! I hope you guys enjoy!
"Like Jojiā¦" Soul mumbled.
"What was that?" Maka looked away from the ruined bedroom and at her weapon. Maka was immediately slapped with her realization. Soul was right, Maka couldn't sense Joji's soul either.
"I thought our treaty with the witches kept them from using their soul protect spell?"
"This is different, with the witches I could still sense a human soul but with them I can sense anything at all. It's like they are just a shell of a person." Maka explained getting lost in her thoughts.
"We should go ask Stein about it." Maka came to her short term conclusion.
"Ugh, I hate visiting Stein." Soul grumbled under his breath as he followed his Meister out of their apartment.
*Stein & Marie's House*
Soul and Maka approached the tall stitched pattern front door. Maka reached out and knocked firmly.
"It's so late I doubt they will wake up." Soul complained, Only to be met with an opening front door.
"What are you kids doing here so late? Is everything alright?" Marie answered the door with a yawn.
"Miss Marie we really need to speak with Stein." Maka chimed with an apologetic look on her face.
"Of course, please come in you two!" Marie stood aside to let the duo enter.
"Let me go wake him up, today was his day with the baby so he is out like a light. Please make yourselves comfortable." Marie walked off with a small giggle.
Maka sat on the couch while Soul remained standing, Stein emerged into the living room.
"Maka, Soul, I hope there is a good reason this couldn't wait until morning" a sleepy Stein groaned.
"Yes, there is. Our apartment is destroyed." Soul barked.
"Well maybe you kids should clean more often? What does this have to do with me?" Stein responded through a yawn.
"What Soul means is that someone is the reason our apartment is destroyed. Someone who's soul I couldn't sense." Maka clarified. She clenched her fist and began to explain further.
"With the witch's soul protect spell I could still sense the presence of a soul, but with this I can't pick them up at all. They were able to hide in our apartment." Maka shivered at the thought.
"Hmmm that's interesting, I've been reading about a new study recently of a device that can completely mask your presence. I wonder if it's the witches trying to find a work around to our treaty..." Stein pondered.
"Well how do we fight against that!" Maka said with a frustrated tone.
"I would have to acquire one of these devices so I can study it further. Find me this device and I can give you an answer."
With that the duo left Stein's for the night.
"How the hell are we supposed to get one of those device things anyway? We don't even know what we are looking for." Soul grumbled.
"I didn't get a look at whomever was in our ceiling so I don't really know either..." Maka admitted in defeat.
Soul hated seeing Maka lose her confidence.
"It's okay, we will figure this out together meister."
Maka smiled at her supportive partner, "Yeah, we will! Now let's head home and attempt a cleanup."
Albarn/Eater Residence
Soul and Maka entered through the front door front door and were immediately greeted by a familiar feline.
"Maka! Souly-kun! I swear it wasn't me!" Blair cried.
"What wasn't you, Blair?" Maka questioned.
"Souly's room is destroyed! I swear I came home and it was like that!" Blair said through her tears.
"We know. It was an intruder." Soul responded annoyed someone could even get the jump on them.
"An intruder!" Blair reverted into her human form.
"Yes, an intruder. Blair did anyone stop by the apartment when we were gone?" Maka asked.
"Yes, there was a man dressed formally who came soon after you left! He was asking for 'Master Soul' Souly-kun you didn't tell me you were a master to others." Blair rubbed up to Soul.
Soul's face turned bright red and a small amount of blood began dripping from his nose.
"Ugh I'm not. That's just what my father's servants call me." Soul was annoyed.
"Master Soul?" Maka snorted.
"Shut it meister!"
Maka couldn't help but poke fun.
"Anyway, I told him I didn't know where you were and he seemed upset but then he just left!" Blair explained.
"If I know my father that shouldn't have been the end of it. Maybe he went to the DWMA." Soul said lost in thought.
"Let's visit Lord Death tomorrow. We can ask him about this strange device we are supposed to find too. I guess for now let's try to get some rest." Maka yawned.
"Sounds like a plan. Goodnight meister."
Maka and Blair retreated to Maka's room for the night while Soul slept on the couch though he really didn't get much sleep. Soul was still uneasy about the silent visitor they had earlier in the night.
"Man, this is so not cool." Soul mumbled to himself as he threw his head back in frustration, waiting to the laughing sun to greet their city.
