❝𝐒𝐨, 𝐄𝐝𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐦𝐲 𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫?❞ Harry demanded the vampire when he, Hermione and the doctor appeared after checking in on Kaylee. He was flanked on the sides by Bill, Ron and the twins. Hermione and Ginny rolled their eyes, sitting down on the loveseat while the vampires looked on in amusement. Of course, they chose this time to grill him when Kaylee was not present.
Edward stared earnestly at the people his mate considered family, the same people who could take her away if they find that he and his family were dangerous to her. Carefully, and with honesty, he replied. "I love her."
Bill snorted in disbelief. "Correct me if I'm wrong but you've only known Kaylee for a few weeks. How is it that you can already love her in this short amount of time?"
He nodded. "I understand your doubts." Edward started. "Vampires have soul mates, and we only have one. It's rare to find them and most of us often wonder whether they have been born yet or have already passed away. But when we do find ours, it's physically impossible to hurt them because hurting them would be inflicting ourselves pain."
"We literally can't hurt or think about hurting them," Rosalie added. "There was one time when I just wanted to rip Emmett's head off for being a complete fool—" Emmett's indignant cry made her pause and she hushed him. "But though my heart is dead and no longer beats, I felt it constrict in pain and I felt breathless. The pain felt like the transformation to being a vampire. It burns."
Emmett gaped and the rest of the family looked at her with a mixture of surprise and sympathy. Kaylee's brother figures, and Hermione and Ginny, were satisfied to learn there was no way that their best friend can be physically hurt with their bond.
"Okay, but let's not forget that Edward is a vampire who is immortal. And while Kaylee's a witch, she's still human and, therefore, fragile—"
Ginny exchanged a glance with Hermione. "If Kaylee was here, I'm sure she'd be offended and would probably start a duel just to prove she wasn't weak." she whispered to her. Hermione nodded and mouthed. "She could be even worse."
"—Do you plan to change her to one of you guys?" Harry asked.
Edward's jaw clenched. "No, I don't." He answered vehemently. The wand wielders raised their eyebrows, taken aback at the tone. "This is a life even I wouldn't want for myself. No one in this room would," he said, gesturing at his family and the Denalis. All who nodded their heads, Rosalie backing him completely. "So, no, I have never had any thoughts of changing her to become a vampire."
"And what if she wants to become one of you?" Fred asked, concerned. Knowing Kaylee, it may very well happen. She had such a bleeding heart; she would probably request to become a vampire just to avoid leaving behind any suffering.
"My answer still remains the same. I will not change her." he told them, truthfully. "She has so much going for her, and I don't want to be the reason why she's being held back. I don't want her to live the life of a vampire, unending and repetitive cycles of going to high school, university, while being careful not to murder a human and drain the life of them because of your thirst. There's always that temptation for human blood at the back of your mind." he explained. "And her magic, I wouldn't want to take that away from her."
Hermione and Ginny smiled with gratefulness, and the boys softened their stances somewhat. Losing one's magic is the worst thing to happen to a wizard and witch, being unable to function and feeling that small void within where there is always something missing that you can never get back. The moment it magic is gone, it is gone forever.
"I love her, and I cannot be selfish with her. I want her to live her life to the fullest with no regrets, and that's why I cannot allow her to become one of us. I do want to spend every moment with her, and I will go where she goes. I will protect her from her enemies and when she finally passes from this world, I will follow her right after. Because I cannot continue to live my life without her." Edward finished.
The moment he finished, Alice sucked in a breath, visions coming in rapidly. She saw everything that Edward wanted for Kaylee's life pass. Where she remained a witch and a human, keeping her magic. Getting married, having children, though the faces of the children and who her spouse will be were blurred. All the birthdays, the anniversaries. Kaylee's ageing. Edward was always with her, being a loyal companion throughout her life. They were there too, the whole Cullen family. And then, there was Kaylee's passing. She had been happy, her life led to the fullest and being an accomplished witch. Attending her funeral, a lot of people coming in to pay their respects.
And then, the one that scared Alice the most. Edward approaching The Volturi and asking to be destroyed for no one in their family would dare lay a hand on him. His eyes black due to hunger but being deprived of blood, and eyes devoid of life. His light had been snuffed out. She saw the Guards destroying him, and Edward smiling for the last time as he welcomed his end. The last vision was of the rest of her family, divided to different parts of the world and never returning to Anchorage.
When she came to, Alice's and Edward's eyes connected. In his, there was acceptance of the visions. Welcomed them even.
Venom pooled in Alice's eyes, and she lunged towards her brother. He caught her before they both tumbled to the floor, "No!" she shouted in alarm. "No, Edward! I won't let you! You're not going to the Volturi and ask to be killed. I won't lose a brother!"
Esme gasped, covering her mouth in shock. "Carlisle..." her voice trembled as she called for her mate, willing him to interfere with their son. She was reminded of her sweet newborn baby who left the world too shortly after birth whilst she was human. Edward may not be hers biologically, but he was as good as and therefore, she did not want a repeat of any children of hers dying.
But Carlisle was equally surprised and horrified. In fact, all of them were as they stared at the bronzed haired vampire in shock.
It was Rosalie who snapped out of it first. She understood because she felt the same with Emmett. To be without him, it a life no longer worth living.
"It's my choice." was the only thing Edward said as he gently tugged Alice back to Jasper's side.
Meanwhile, Harry, Hermione, Ron, Ginny, Bill and the twins just watched the proceedings in confusion. What in Merlin's beard was going on?
Sensing their confusion, Jasper turned to the wand wielders as he wrapped an arm around Alice who clung to him tightly. "There are vampires that have gifts. Alice is a seer; she can predict the future based on the decisions a person has made." he explained.
Hermione winced at the mention of seer, still incensed about Divination and how that was the only subject in Hogwarts she did not excel at.
"And Alice saw everything that Edward mentioned coming to pass." Hermione finished for him. She might not like Divination and the seers from back home, but she knew that vampire gifts tended to be genuine.
Jasper nodded grimly.
Bill exhaled, feeling pity for the vampire who loved his sister. "Well, it's good a thing that we live a long life, from a hundred to two-hundred years." he stated. Edward looked pleased.
Ginny watched the family of vampires closely, noting especially how they acted more like a family than just being a part of a coven. She admired how they made do with what they have. Creating family bonds with one another knowing it was the closest thing they will ever have at a family. Spending their immortal life together than choosing to live a lonely existence.
"The future can change." Ginny told them.
Harry nodded, agreeing with his girlfriend. "And we know Kaylee, she would give up her life for just about anyone." Harry said. "It's her choice as well since this will also affect her." he directed towards Edward. "You can't rule out Kaylee from wanting to be a vampire to stay with you."
Esme and the rest of the Cullen family stared at him, hoping for it to be true as they could not even begin to imagine a life without Edward.
Families were never meant to be broken.

There was a break for dinner for the wand wielding humans. The moment Esme realised that none of them had eaten anything past lunch, she was bustling around the kitchen preparing dinner for them. And after an hour, they were seated down in the dining room with Esme and Edward.
"This is really good. Thank you, Mrs. Cullen." Ron said as he took a bite of the roast chicken, followed by a large spoonful of roasted potatoes that had a hint of lemon. The rest nodded their heads in agreement.
Esme beamed. "Please, call me Esme." she said.
"I hope you don't mind me asking, but I was surprised to see your fridge and pantry stocked...why is that considering that you don't need them?" Hermione questioned the kind matriarch.
"We have to keep up with human pretences all the time, so we shop for groceries once a week." she replied. "In my human life, I've always loved cooking and baking, and that hobby carried on after my transformation. I was disappointed that I couldn't stomach anything I made but that didn't prevent me from doing what I loved. What I make, I give to the orphanage and the homeless. And now Daniel." she smiled.
Harry swallowed his food. "Daniel? Kaylee's cousin."
"Yes." Edward said. "He's my best friend outside of this family."
Bill suddenly stood from his chair when he realised the time. "I should be getting back to my wife." he turned to Esme. "Thank you so much for the lovely dinner, Esme."
"You're welcome." she responded. "Please, take some of the food home to your wife. And all of you, you can have some more." she said the last part to the others.
Hermione and Ginny protested. "But Kaylee might probably wake up in the middle of the night, and the first thing she would do, especially when she hasn't had dinner, is to look for food."
Esme smiled from where she stood beside the stove, packing food in containers. "I've already saved some for her."
Once that was said, there was a race to who could get to the roast chicken and potatoes first. Edward smirked in amusement, and Bill looking on in fond exasperation at his family.
"Here you go." Esme handed the bag with the containers to Bill who could do nothing but to accept it.
"Thank you." and with that, he apparated away.
Esme and Edward were left gobsmacked, staring at the place where the wizard had been standing not a second ago. And Emmett who was entering the dining room and had seen the sudden disappearance of the man sucked in a breath.
"That was so cool!" he exclaimed in amazement. Edward rolled his eyes.
"I believe that will take some time getting used to." Esme uttered, shaking her head.
The wand wielders could only grin sheepishly.
Once dinner was done and everything was cleaned, they congregated once more in the sitting room, the vampires piling in one after the other.
Hermione once more took the lead for her friends and after exchanging a look with Harry, she took out her beaded bag and rifled through.
All golden eyes went wide as they witnessed the witch's arm sinking deep inside the bag almost encompassing her whole arm. It should have been impossible because the bag was so small, it was like the size of a cantaloupe. But no matter how many times they blinked, they were still seeing the same thing.
When she finally brought up her arm, she was holding something small that she placed on the floor. Hermione took out her wand, and the vampires leaned away, suddenly cautious. She pointed at the item, and the thing grew in size.
The vampires noted it looked to be a shallow metal basin encased around a stone stand.
"This is a pensieve," Hermione told them. "It's a device we use to view another's memories, especially useful when you're in a trial at court."
"You can see memories?" Carlisle asked, intrigued.
Hermione nodded at him. "Yes, you can view them by sticking your face in the basin and you will enter the memories and be able to move within. However, as they have already happened, there is no chance to change any of the events you see, and the people in the memories are not sensitive to you."
The vampires exhaled a breath in awe.
"You wanted to know about us," Hermione started to say. "It's better to let you know this way."
Edward leaned forward, wanting to know the world where his mate came from. Hermione once more rummaged in the bag, and brought out various vials, each filled with a silvery substance which appeared to look like a cloudy liquid.
"These are Kaylee's memories." she pointed out, and Edward's eyes snapped to hers. Hermione met his steadily. "It's okay, Edward, she gave us permission to use her memories for situations like this."
He hesitated. "It doesn't seem right to view her memories without her and without hearing her approval for myself." he admitted. But on the other hand, he wanted to know all the things that happened to her. "I'll wait for tomorrow when she's awake, I don't want to breach her privacy like that."
"It's tempting but I also agree with my brother." Rosalie said. The rest of the vampires followed their decision, and only Irina seemed indifferent.
Out of the vampires' sight, Harry, Ron, and the twins smiled.
"Oh," Hermione was taken aback, playing her part very well. Inside, she was pleased that Edward was not selfish enough to take every little thing that was handed to him—as most vampires were. "Well, in that case I'll put these back and we can see them with her tomorrow."
Suddenly, Ginny yawned, eyes tired and sleepy. "I'm sorry, but could I be excused?"
"Of course, dear. You can all stay in here for the night to sleep." Esme declared. "I'll prepare the other rooms."
"Oh please, there's no need!" Ginny said in a hurry. "We'll all just sleep in the room with Kaylee."
And that was how they found themselves staying in the Cullen Residence. Even if the other rooms had been made ready for them, they still would have gone to where Kaylee was sleeping. The vampires were nice and hospitable, and they were safe from them with their vegetarian diet and their scent being 'bland' to them, but the war was still fresh and unfamiliar places have always made them wary.
Before Harry went upstairs, he spoke to Edward. "Ron, George, Fred and I decided that you have our blessing to court Kaylee. It's clear that you truly respect our sister that you would even deny viewing her memories, ones she did not approve to share with others."
Edward looked at him in confusion. "But Hermione said that Kaylee allowed it?"
The bespectacled wizard gave him a sly smile, waiting for him to realise the truth. By the time he did, Harry was already at the top of the stairs.
"It was a test the whole time?" Edward called out.
He heard all of Kaylee's friends chuckling.
"You passed!" He called back. "Plus, those memories were not even hers to begin with."
And Edward heard his brothers' laughter among them.

Once the wand wielders joined Kaylee in the guest room, the vampires left the room to do their own little things. Only Alice, Rosalie, Edward, Jasper and Emmett remained in the sitting room, holding books that Hermione gave them to look through.
Alice had a book on wizard and witch fashion through all the ages, Jasper was reading through Defense Against the Dark Arts, Edward on the History of Magic, and Emmett reading about magical creatures. Rosalie had been quick to snatch the book where the Volturi was mentioned, titled History of the Living Stone Vampires.
It was an interesting book where it mentioned who the first Living Stone vampire a wand wielder had met. Everything that she had read was a mixture of new things she had previously never known and basically things she already knew, plus how their kind differed to the Living Dead vampires.
As she flicked to the next page, her eyes eagerly read the next passage in the book. Her eyes widened at the revelations as her mouth opened in shock.
"These...these changes everything." Rosalie gasped loudly. Alice closed the book she was viewing, and Edward and Jasper looked up at their sister from the books they were reading. Emmett sat up from where he was laying on her lap. They waited for her to elaborate. "How ironic that the Volturi shows how much they love their power and abuses it when this whole time, there was another government that was in charge of them."
In a flash, every other vampire was there around her, their interests piqued. Rosalie sensing them repeated what she had read aloud.
"The Joint Government Association (JGA) has replaced the Italian Ministry of Magic until the Italian Ministry can be reformed and suitable leaders can be found to govern the Italian Wizarding Community... The JGA has established The Living Stone Vampires Act where the Volturi must adhere to the law and defer to the JGA. In exchange for their submission, the JGA has granted the Volturi kings to govern their kind. However, the Volturi must rule the vampire community with benevolence.
"They should be fair and just with their judgement, and in no way be prejudiced or manipulating. This ensures that the vampire community will coexist in peace and in harmony with their kind, and with all the witch and wizards. Under the jurisdiction of the JGA, here are the clauses of The Living Stone Vampires Act:
Joint Government Association for the Italian Wizarding Community.

Violation of the clauses as stated above will be investigated. Following, but not limited to, are the penalties depending on the severity of the breach.
1. Immediate removal of the ruling coven monarchy.
2. Disciplinary measures.
3. Death.
Aro Caius Marcus
"Aro, Caius and Marcus signed the agreement, alongside many other signatures," Rosalie told them before finishing the last paragraph. "By signing this agreement, The Volturi has agreed to be bound to The Living Stone Act mandated by The Joint Government Association for the Italian Wizarding Community. They have agreed to adhere to all the clauses specified and accepted the punishments should any of these be violated. In addition, they have agreed to be bound by the International Statute of Secrecy." she finished.
There was only silence that followed after the last word was said, each in their own thoughts.
"Do you know what this means?" Tanya asked, a grim satisfaction settling over her.
Carlisle and Eleazar, both who had joined the Volturi for a time, exchanged looks.
"It means the Volturi are guilty, and they will either be destroyed, or the kings will be removed as monarchs." Carlisle answered.
"It could be both."
