Chapter One

Walking out of Port Angeles airport Gemma checked her phone to see if Bella had updated her on when her plane would be arriving, Bella's last text said it was running an hour behind. Not seeing a new text from Bella, Gemma moved up against the outside of the airport building so she would be out of the way as she kept an eye out for the two vaguely familiar faces. It had been over four years since she had seen Charlie who was going to be picking them up, and it had almost been three years since she had seen Bella,

*Although since we are identical twins, I guess I've technically seen her every day in the mirror. * Gemma mused before her thoughts were interrupted by someone calling her name.

"Gemma!" A male voice hollered again causing Gemma to look around the constantly moving people searching for who was calling her when her gaze landed on a familiar tall well-built native man.

"...Sam?" Gemma called out surprised to see him there as he usually didn't leave the Reservation.

"Yeah, how have you been? I heard from Billy Black that you would be spending the next year or two here in Forks." Sam said as he crossed through the crowd of people and pulled Gemma into a tight hug.

"I'm surprised you're talking to any of the elders, but I guess Billy is the best of the lot." Gemma replied, causing Sam to laugh.

"We came to an understanding…as in they understand I won't let them control me and I'll make my own decisions and choices regardless of their thoughts on the matter." Sam said, causing Gemma to smile.

"Good. I'm sure that messed up their plans for your future. Speaking of your future, how did things go with Leah? The last I heard you were thinking about telling her the truth." Gemma asked, concerned she knew how much Sam and Leah had been in love when he first transformed.

"I did tell her the truth she thought I was using drugs. So I ended up showing her and she's been great about it. She agreed that since I could have an imprint that we should just be friends it's awesome to have someone who really knows me that I can talk to without hiding anything or making up lies. Honestly all in all I have to say things have been going a lot better than I ever thought they would." Sam replied.

"Good! I'm glad everything went smoothly but remember Sam you were only the first. As long as they are still here more will follow if they haven't already." Gemma warned Sam as she dug around in her backpack and pulled out a pack of cigarettes and a lighter.

"Actually, two more already have. And from the looks of things, I think Jacob, Billy's son will be the next." Sam replied as he took the offered cigarette and leaned his back on the airport as he and Gemma smoked.

"I wonder how that will go? You're the Alpha right now but wasn't Billy an Alpha too? Jacob might be one as well then." Gemma said after a few puffs.

"I would welcome getting rid of the responsibility if that's the case." Sam said immediately, causing Gemma to laugh.

"Oh please. You might not have gone looking for it but now that the position has been given to you, you won't be able to hand it off to anyone unless you truly believe they are more competent than you are. Regardless of who their dad is." Gemma replied and Sam gave her a sharp look as if to deny what she had said before he dropped his head and let out a long sigh.

"I know." Was all he replied, and they finished their cigarettes in silence.

Tossing their nubs into the outdoor ashtray Gemma realized she hadn't asked why Sam was there,

"Not that I'm not happy to see a familiar face but why are you in Port Angeles? You didn't come all this way just to pick me up did you?" Gemma said half-jokingly.

"Actually…yes?" Sam said his ears went red as he rubbed the back of his neck in obvious embarrassment causing Gemma's eyes to widen in surprise. Feeling a rush of emotions, she decided to show her appreciation and without a thought took a short running jump into his arms causing her sunglasses to fly off her face at the sudden jarring motion as Sam caught her.

They both laughed as Sam steadied them by using the airport wall when their eyes met, and Gemma watched in awe as his hazel brown eyes turned golden before going back to their normal brown color. There was silence between the two of them as they just stared at each other in surprise, both of them aware of what had just happened but still in shock and a bit of denial.
