Chapter Two
Gemma recovered first and immediately pulled back tapping Sam's shoulder so he would put her down which he did in silence.
"I'm so sorry." Gemma said, as she realized she had pulled one of her best friends into a very dangerous position.
"Why? We were best friends, this just adds a deeper relationship to it." Sam said, sounding a little hurt.
"It's not that Sam." Gemma sighed, running a hand through her hair as she tried to figure out how to explain things to Sam.
"Then what is it?" Sam asked and Gemma opened her mouth to try to begin to explain when her phone vibrated, indicating that she had been messaged.
Grabbing her phone Gemma glanced at the two texts and saw that Bella's flight had been delayed again and Charlie was running behind due to a boat accident. Making up her mind she texted both of them that a friend had come to pick her up and she would get to Charlies later before putting her phone away.
"Let's go to your truck. I'll explain what I can on the way back to Forks." Gemma told Sam as she bent down and picked up her sunglasses, backpack and guitar case. Sam grabbed her duffel bag and held out his hand which Gemma took without a second thought causing Sam to smile a bit before he began to walk through the crowd,
"I parked over here."
As soon as they got to the truck Gemma decided it would be best if she drove so Sam could process what she would be telling him without having to worry about anything else. Sam was a bit reluctant, but he handed over his keys and Gemma began the drive back to Forks.
"So, the first thing you should be aware of is that there is a lot more than just vampires, werewolves and shapeshifters in this world." Gemma said, having decided to start at the beginning.
"What do you mean 'this world?'" Sam asked, having caught on right away.
" I mean there is this world, Earth and then there is the Fae world, Ársa. There is a third world as well however it would be best not to even speak about it. Anyway, all three worlds inhabit the same space at the same time; they just vibrate at different frequencies allowing them to co-exist without destroying each other or merging." Gemma said braking at a stop light and turning to face Sam who was watching her closely.
"Look at my eyes Sam. Tell me honestly, have you ever seen human eyes like this before?" Gemma asked pointing to her Fae eyes, the reason that Sam had imprinted on her successfully this time even though they had looked each other in the eye since he had transformed.
"Now that you mention it, no I never have. They are beautiful though." Sam said, adding an eyebrow wiggle and a wink causing Gemma to grin at his flirting before she turned her attention back to the road.
"Thanks. These are my 'natural' eyes. You see Sam, I'm an anomaly. I am both a full-blooded Fae and a full-blooded human, something that has never existed before to my knowledge...back to the topic on hand, do you remember when Bella and I were kidnapped when we were eight and I fell into an unexplained coma for three months?" Gemma asked. Seeing Sam nod out of the corner of her eye Gemma continued,
"When my flight or fight instincts kicked in while I was trying to fight her my past memories resurfaced which gave me the advantage and allowed me to kill her. However, humans only live maybe a hundred years and Fae's live thousands of years so my human brain couldn't handle all the information. I was lucky enough that when my memories unlocked some of my Fae magic returned so while I was asleep my human mind was switched out with my Fae mind. This allows me to keep my human form while simultaneously having full access to all of my Fae memories and even allowing the use of a small portion of my Fae magic. I know everyone else believes that the reason for my change in attitude and behavior was because of the kidnapping but in reality, it was just me being who I was." Gemma said. Deciding to stop there so Sam could come to terms with the fact that there was more to reality then even he knew.
"Can you tell me who were you before? And how did you come to be reincarnated as a human?" Sam asked curiously after several minutes of silence.
"I was the youngest of the Thirteen Fae Queens. I can't tell you my Fae name, at least not yet. Should I even think of myself by my true name it will permanently destroy my human form. Fae names have an enormous amount of magic imbued in them and the more powerful the Fae the more powerful the name they are given. As to my death and reincarnation, over a thousand years ago here on Earth I gave my life to keep the magic and beings of this world safe. However, as Fae are mostly magic, my soul wasn't destroyed, it merely scattered into the magic of this world. It all merged back together seventeen years ago, that's how I was reborn as a human." Gemma said and she was startled and nearly swerved into the opposite lane as Sam suddenly crashed into her from the side pulling her into a tight hug.
"Sorry." Sam mumbled into her ear as he held her tightly.
Understanding that hearing about her previous death, even though she had glossed over the whole truth of it, was most likely terrifying to him as they were now mates Gemma placed a quick kiss on Sam's forehead.
"There is one more thing you need to know, Fae females have multiple mates. While I am in human form now as you can tell by my eyes my Fae nature is becoming more prominent meaning that most likely I will also have more than one mate even while I remain in human form. You are the only one for now but there's no telling when that will change and when it does, I will not play favorites." Gemma said after several minutes of wrestling with herself about telling him or not.
"While I would normally be jealous about sharing you, I'm actually glad that there will be others to help me protect you. However, I am definitely going to savor the time I have you all to myself." Sam said quietly after a few minutes of silence, not having moved since he wrapped his arms around her almost an hour earlier.
Gemma smiled, feeling a warmth envelop her heart as her mate's sweetness as he continued to cuddle her as she drove them back to Forks the truck filled with the faint sounds of the radio.
