I stood over her crumpled form.
Her face was a mix of disbelief and hatred. With a smidge of panic that made me feel like a heel.
Ever so slowly, I took out my notebook, and without removing my dagger from her throat, I started to write.
Never attack without a plan.
You are tired, running on fumes since you used all your mana with the warming sigil.
You refused to eat and haven't truly rested since we got on the plane.
As her eyes followed my script, her anger mounted and she started to growl.
I marshaled on. I needed to impart this lesson if she was to stand any chance of surviving...
And the epiphany hit me like a sack of bricks.
I'm becoming my old man.
My dagger should have wavered because Rin got a jewel on her hands and started to chant.
-"Gngrr!"
The air surrounding us was sucked in and then exploded outwards. The explosion echoed in the cave.
A chime of dust covered the entrance and when it dispersed, only the embers of our defunct barbeque provided any light whatsoever.
-"Aww fak."
