Our feet carried us from shadow to shadow, the gravel hindering our attempts at stealth. Yet in other places, the packed earth made our steps silent. Could have been worse. Don't get me started on Nepal...
We skirted the outer layer of the dig site and waited for an opening between the guards. When the coast was clear, we dashed to the tents.
Rin devoured the loaves of bread while I remained alert.
-"Psst, I think that would be the main tent."
She came over, hugging close to her chest the stolen booty.
-"How do you know? It looks like the others."
My index pointed to the generator on the side.
-"No self-respecting Edelfelt will go anywhere without copious amounts of alcohol. And you need ice for it."
Rin arched her brow.
-"You know too many details about her. Should I be worried?"
I pondered over it.
-"Before this..."
I displayed her the back of my hand with the magical pact.
"...maybe."
I swear, the air chilled around us.
-"Do tell."
If she wanted to hear it.
-"They are the only real contender in our field. When you want to get some serious work done, everyone knows that if you can't contract my parents, the Edelfelts are the only real alternative."
Her voice was flat.
-"Professional appreciation?"
I nodded.
The air returned to its previous state, and her jaw unclenched.
See Sasuyke? I know how to avoid traps! Eat your heart out.
-"MMMhhmmm. And here I thought that you would wax flowery description about her beauty."
-"I mean, both Fiia and Luvia are pretty."
A charged gem bristling with mana threatened to blow our cover.
-"Ooohhh... Are they pretty now?"
I turned my back to her and started walking towards the main tent.
-"But I lucked out and my betrothed is a loving soul who cares for her sister even more than magic itself."
Rin rushed past me, eager to loot the Edelfelt's, her cheeks red with exhilaration.
It seemed that liberating food lifted her spirits.
