Chapter 7
Joey turned over in bed as he heard a lot of commotion outside the room that he was sharing with Ross and Chandler. He looked over and saw Chandler's bed empty, but Ross was still snoring away. Today, they were leaving the beach house and heading back to New York. And apparently they had to clean and organize everything before they left, though.
The door opened and Joey slowly sat up as Chandler came in and Ross sat up in bed as well.
"It's time for you guys to wake up." Chandler told them. "Since I woke up to help everyone else with breakfast, you guys are in charge of clean up after we're all done eating."
"Is there coffee at least?" Ross mumbled.
"There's a pot brewing now." Chandler told them as he rummaged through his things. "I'm going to take a shower real quick while breakfast is cooking."
Chandler walked into the bathroom across the hall and turned on the radio as he started his shower. When he emerged fifteen minutes later, he found everyone downstairs scattered around the living area. Ross and Joey were sitting at the table drinking coffee and everyone else was sitting around the TV on the eight-piece couch. Chandler slipped into the spot beside Monica as she pressed buttons on her phone.
"Are you uploading to Facebook again?" he asked her.
"Not all the pictures," she smiled at him. "I'm just looking at my news feed."
"Anything interesting?" he looked over at her.
"Apparently there's been a shake-up at the Country Club while we were gone." Monica revealed and Chandler looked over at his dads.
"Care to share anything?" Chandler asked.
"When we get back into town." Terry told him. "Don't worry about it right now."
"The breakfast casserole should be ready now." Adalee got up from the couch and Chandler followed her into the kitchen to check on the monkey bread that he had made.
Ten minutes later, everyone sat around the table as the breakfast was set out before them. They all talked about their favorite part of the trip as they sounded bummed that they were leaving already.
"After we finish eating, we need to start packing up and cleaning things up." Charles told them all. "The beds need stripped so the sheets and blankets can be washed, someone needs to make a supply list so that we can stock up on things for the next renters…"
They all finished eating and helped clean up as everyone started their assigned jobs. Half an hour later, Charles and Terry came out and saw Chandler on his phone as he leaned against the counter.
"Why aren't you helping?" Terry asked him.
"I've stripped my bed, started the first load of linens, cleaned the downstairs bathroom, and made the list of needed supplies." He told them. "Now I'm checking my voicemail. I got some calls while I was cleaning."
"You're excused for now." Charles told him as they started to pack up the kitchen supplies they had brought. "I think we're getting off too easy with him. What teenager does what he's told the first time?"
"Ours apparently," Terry told him.
"Dad!" Chandler came in with his phone.
"What's the matter? Who called you?"
"The first one was the principal reminding me about the AP classes starting up, the second one was the coach telling me that I've been voted team captain-"
"That's great!" Terry smiled at him.
"That's not all." Chandler began again. "My boss wants to know if I would like to become a shift manager this year."
"How many more hours will the entail?" Charles asked. "Your schoolwork comes first."
"He said he was expecting your call, but it would entail a pay raise."
"We'll talk to him when we get home," Terry told him. "I think I heard the buzzer from the washing machine go off. You need to go start the next load."
"I'm on it," Chandler headed towards the basement doors.
Monica and Phoebe came down into the basement with another pile of linens. She spotted Chandler placing a newly dried pile on the ping pong table as he put another load in the dryer.
"This should be the last of it," Phoebe told him.
"Great," he sighed. "When they're all done, we have to put them back on the beds."
"Why do we have to do all this?" Joey grumbled as he and Ross came down to them.
"So that it's all ready for the next renters." Chandler told them.
"So you guys rent this place out all year long?"
"Pretty much," Chandler replied.
"Once you all get the beds remade, we need to start loading up the cars." Charles called down the stairs to them.
Joey started grumbling as they started upstairs to finish packing everything up again. They all brought all their things down and set them by the door as they went back up to finish cleaning up.
A couple hours later, they were all situated into the vehicles and headed back to New York.
Charles and George pulled their cars up to the Gellar house as it started to get dark out. Ross and Monica climbed out of the cars and proceeded to unload their belongings from the back. The front door opened and Jack and Judy came out to greet them.
"As you can see, they're both in one piece." Adalee told them.
"Thank you," Jack forced a smile as he saw Chandler helping Monica with her things.
"So did you two have fun?" Judy asked as they started to take all their things inside.
"It was great," Ross told them.
"I'll see you guys tomorrow." Chandler called before climbing back into his dad's car.
Monica waved to everyone before heading into the house behind Ross. They both took their bags to the laundry room and emptied their dirty clothes into the hamper.
"I'm glad you had fun this weekend," Jack smiled at them.
"It was really fun," Monica told them.
"I heard you making plans with Chandler tomorrow," Judy said. "Don't you think you guys spent enough time together this weekend?"
"Our AP classes start up tomorrow," Monica told her. "We're riding over to the school together."
"You're in AP classes?" Jack looked at her. "You didn't tell us that."
"Yes, I did. You just don't listen to me." Monica told them. "I'm going to put my things away."
Monica took her bags with her up to her room and started putting everything back where it belonged. She plugged in her phone to charge it as she put all her bathroom supplies away and set up all her souvenirs on her desk. She finished putting everything away and went back downstairs to deal with her parents.
Chandler walked into the house and cranked up the air conditioner as they all started to unload the car. Charles came in behind everyone as they made a pile on the kitchen floor.
"All of your guys' dirty clothes in the laundry room and someone can start a load," Terry told them. "All the food needs to be put away, and then you all can unpack."
"Got it," Chandler told him as they all got to work.
Chandler finished putting all the snacks back in the pantry as Phoebe took the rest of her dirty clothes to the laundry room.
"So when does school officially start?" Joey came in.
"Next week," Chandler told him. "But anyone enrolled in any AP classes start earlier."
"We need to take you two in tomorrow and meet with the guidance counselor," Charles came into them. "You need to decide which classes that you want to take."
"We need to take them all in for their physicals, and get their teeth cleaned, go school supply shopping, and get Chandler some new soccer gear." Terry told him.
"We all have a lot to do this week," Charles agreed as they all finished unpacking and got settled in front of the TV for the night.
Monday afternoon, Chandler swung by and picked up Ross and Monica before they went to the high school. They all walked in and started to search for their designated classrooms as they spotted the guidance counselor talking to a group of students.
"Mr. Bing, Miss Gellar," Mr. Smith stopped them. "I need to talk to you two for a moment."
"I'll save you a seat, man." Ross told Chandler as he watched them enter the inner office.
"Are we in trouble?" Chandler asked as they both sat before the big oak desk.
"Not at all," he assured them. "I assumed that you guys wouldn't mind sitting in on each others' meeting."
"Not at all," Monica told him.
"Well, Miss Gellar," Mr. Smith looked through some papers. "I remember you expressing interest in maybe graduating early."
"Do I qualify?" Monica asked hopeful.
"You have enough credits to qualify as a senior this year."
"Wait, so I can graduate at the end of this school year?" Monica took the papers from him.
"If you continue to work really hard."
"I will, don't worry." Monica smiled at Chandler.
"As for you Mr. Bing," the guidance counselor shuffled through some more papers. "If you continue to work hard like you've always done, you'll be able to complete all your credits by winter break."
"I can graduate in one semester?" Chandler was shocked.
"You'll still be able to graduate with your class, but yes you'll be able to complete your senior year in one semester."
Monica and Chandler walked out of the guidance office with all the paperwork that Mr. Smith had given them and walked into their AP English class and sat near Ross.
"Monica?" he looked at her. "What are you doing in the senior class?"
"It's a long story," she told him. "But I'm a senior now."
Chandler told him what all had happened in the guidance counselor's office until the teacher came in and started outlining the course for them.
Chandler sighed for the hundredth time since arriving home from his AP classes. He told his dads the good news about both him and Monica being able to graduate early. They both acted like they were excited, but he could tell that something else was going on. They told Joey and Phoebe to stay in the den while the three of them went into Terry's office and they all sat down.
"All right," Charles started. "I'm just going to cut to the chase. We know what you and Monica did while we were on vacation."
"What are you talking about?" Chandler sat up straighter.
"Don't lie to us," Terry told him. "We know that you planned it all out, had Carol convince Ross to go out on a date so he wouldn't interfere, and had Joey and Phoebe text you so you knew when we were leaving and when we were coming back."
"If you already know, why are we having this conversation?"
"We would like to hear it from you." Charles looked at him.
"Fine, we slept together." Chandler stated. "There's nothing you can do about it now."
"We need to talk about this," Terry told him.
"Oh god," Chandler sighed once again. "Another sex talk? Seriously? We've had them every six months since I was twelve."
"This one is different. Now that you're crossing this line, we need to make sure that you were being safe and responsible."
"We were," Chandler rolled his eyes. "She's on the pill, and we used a condom."
"She's on the pill?" Charles demanded. "So this wasn't your guys' first time then?"
"No. Her doctor recommended that she start taking it. Something about regulating-I didn't want to hear the rest. It was our first time."
Joey and Phoebe were perched on the staircase as they tried to listen to the conversation going on in the room behind them. They looked at each other as they heard Terry and Charles giving Chandler a lecture on protection.
"I guess we weren't as stealth as we thought we were," Joey told her.
"No you weren't," Charles startled them as the three of them came out of the office.
"H-Hey," they stood up to face them.
"Can I go now?" Chandler grumbled.
"Go on," Terry told him and he went upstairs. "We need to talk to you two now."
"Oh man," Joey mumbled as he followed Phoebe into Terry's office.
Monica was sitting in front of her laptop going through all of her schoolwork for her new classes. Her messenger popped up and she smiled as she saw Chandler's name.
'F2T?' (Free to talk?)-CB
'Yes. What's going on?'-MG
'My dads figured out what we did on vacation.'-CB
'OMG. How mad are they?'-MG
'I got lectured for almost an hour.'-CB
'What did they say?'-MG
'They were more concerned about us using protection rather than the fact that we did anything.'-CB
'So are they still mad then?'-MG
'Not that I can tell. I have to get off now. See you in the morning?'-CB
'You bet.' :)-MG
'Good night.'-CB
Monica logged out and shut down her laptop as she packed everything back up. She went to brush her teeth and came back and climbed into bed. Tomorrow would be the day that she would skip her junior year of high school and go straight to being a senior. She couldn't wait.
